Our cross-scientific approach involves neurologists, spinal cord specialists, orthopedists, technical and polymer engineers, industrial designers, ergonomists and manufacturing specialists. Among many other products, they stand behind for example, the new super-light and ventilated Fornix free ride helmet with Aramid reinforcement, our new glove line and the new body armor concept VPD 2.0, which outperforms anything weÂ´ve made before

This is us poc is a swedish company, built on a strong mission; to do everything we possibly can to save lives and to reduce consequences of accidents for gravity sports athletes, by developing and renewing what personal protection is all about. When it comes to increasing the degree of protection, POC has already set a new standard with patented technical solutions in construction, material combinations and engiÂneering.

The organization involves competences from different fields, such as engineers, material specialists, industrial and graphic designers, neurologists and specialists in spinal cord injuries. Stockholm is an important center for some of Europeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s leading research and development experts in the areas of safety, medicine, health care, advanced product development and testing. all our products have been tested by top gravity sport athletes and then further refined to perfection. They love to go flat out, however, without risking cuts, bruises, headaches or more serious injuries such as back- and brain damage. The end result is a line of lightweight, high performance gear that offers the ultimate protection against injury, thanks to superior impact absorption and penetration resistance. when developing a product at poc, we do it in the spirit of doing the best. POC Lab POC Lab is our scientific forum. It brings together experts who provide us with invaluable assistance in ensuring that we develop the most relevant, reliable and advanced protective products on the market today. The POC Lab enables a close and rewarding collaboration with some of the world’s foremost sports medicine experts, brain scientists and specialists in spinal cord injuries. As a complement to the POC Lab, we also seek help from material technologists – and from people such as you, who make avid use of our protective gear in practice, ranging from proficient X-Game riders to the elite at the World Cup level. New technologies MIPS – developed in cooperation with Royal Institute of Technology and Karolinska Institute, Sweden The new MIPS technology mimics one of the safety systems which already exist in the human head. When the head is subjected to an oblique impact, the brain can slide along a membrane on the inner surface of the skull, which reduces the forces transmitted to the brain. This protective feature has, with the MIPS technology, been incorporated into the helmet. In a helmet equipped with MIPS technology, the shell and the liner are separated by a low friction layer. When subjected to an oblique impact, the low friction layer allows a small rotation of the shell relative to the liner. Experimental tests shows a significant reduction of the forces to the brain. Find more information about the tests at www.mipshelmet.com Accident statistics show that the most common accident occurs in an oblique impact to the head, resulting in a rotation of the head and brain. The brain is more sensitive to oblique impacts than radial impacts. However, according to the helmet test regulations, the helmets are dropped vertically onto the impact surface, resulting in a radial force to the head. This is why helmets today have good protective properties for vertical impacts while the protection is not optimized for oblique impacts. HEAD Eight different helmet concepts for several different needs When POC first started up, there were two types

of helmets on the market. The traditional helmet with a hard shell and a liner of softer expanded polystyrene (EPS) which has good penetration resistance and energy distribution properties. The disadvantage is that upon impact, the hard structure causes a sudden stop. The brain may continue to move in the direction of travel and the impact is not absorbed very well. The hard shell is also quite heavy which may cause the helmet to bounce off the ground on impact. These properties can lead to brain damage and whiplash injuries. the second type of helmet is the ‘in-mold’ type, which originated in the bike business. These molded helmets have a thinner shell of hard plastic that covers the ears and the back of the neck. Normally, both the traditional hard shell and

in-mold helmets rely on expanded Polystyrene (EPS) for the shock absorption. EPS absorbs energy by plastic deformation, meaning it is deformed permanently upon impact. Therefore, a helmet liner made of EPS will not be good at absorbing repetitive shocks. Another aspect that is not taken into account in traditional helmets are the effects of rotational violence, which is a major risk in oblique impacts. ”Semi-hard shell” 2.0 helmets When first developed and launched season 2005/2006, the aim of the “semi hard shell” helmets was to combine the advantages of in-mold and hard shell helmets. The excellent energy absorption properties from the in-mold helmets was achieved by using a thin and light outer shell and the ability to withstand sharp object penetration was solved by adding a barrier of ballistic aramid. POC has been refining the concept into the second generation of these helmets, the “semi hard shell 2.0” collection. By studying today’s top ski racers, it was evident that a helmet used for ski racing is likely to be exposed to repeated violence from hitting gates at high speed. The updated helmets are therefore equipped with a liner of Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) instead of EPS. The difference between the materials is that EPP, unlike EPS, does not deform permanently on impact and is therefore suitable to absorb repetitive 12

shocks. The outer shell is also updated for increased durability and optimized for the new liner material (all Skull helmets).

Aramid in-mold helmets starting With the amazing properties of our Skull Comp helmet, we have taken the technology further by incorporating the Aramid ballistic penetration barrier APB, into a series of in-mold helmets – Synapsis. This has enabled us to overcome the traditional problems of in-mold helmets breaking easily and not being able to withstand penetration. The Synapsis helmets are designed to offer extreme lightweight, ventilation and comfort without compromising safety.

Double shell helmets improving properties such as better shock absorption, lower weight and penetration resistance are some of the major advantages made possible by using POC’s patent pending Aramid ballistic penetration barrier: APB. Transferring these qualities and lessons learned into a fully ventilated system has led to the new revolutionary, patent pending; Ventilated-DoubleShell-Anti-Penetration: VDSAP. the concept was initially developed for the Receptor+ all season helmet. A helmet developed and certified in Europe and the US for skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, biking and water sports. VDSAP is built with double shells, placed offset, for maximum penetration resistance and has channels in between to evacuate heat, moisture or water. The inner shell is an extremely thin in-mold shell, while the outer shell is a hard shell of ABS and PC. The properties are amazing and used in all Receptor helmets and the Cortex DH.

Optimized vent helmets some markets asked us to come up with a super ventilated helmet, adjustable for cold days. With the experience gained from previous models, innovations and patents, we came up with a cocktail of different ventilation concepts, all included in one helmet. When using an adjustable system, there is also the challenge of keeping weight down. The solution combines three different ventilation systems. At the front, there was the POC patent VDSAP, a double shell solution where air is transported between two layers of shell, to avoid direct wind and to withstand penetration from

six vents, that may be closed or semi-closed with a turning-devise. This combination makes the helmet very airy and very light (all Frontal helmets). Carbon Fiber helmets so far, carbon fiber helmets haven’t made too much sense. The methods of industrially laying carbon fiber have been counterproductive to the goal of thin, light shells that deform or destruct at certain stress points. The shells have been too stiff and too thick for use in ski helmets. however, thanks to a new method, we can make

a super-thin and super-light carbon fiber shell, which is highly flexible and makes sense to use in a ski helmet. Unfortunately the technique is still very expensive but it’s so good that we we chose to introduce it in the high end line of Skull Helmets; Super Skull Comp. Multi directional impact protection system helmets Traditional helmet testing methods only test vertical falls. However, the real situation is that, if crashing at speed, the impact will be oblique. This means that the helmet and head will rotate when hitting the ground, resulting in rotational forces to the brain. The brain is highly sensitive to this kind of violence. By applying the MIPS technology in POC helmets, the different layers in the helmets are allowed to move in relation to each other. Thanks to that, rotational violence can be controlled. Aramid bridge shell helmets When looking for low weight in combination with a tough and durable structure, we added aramid in strategic locations just under the outer shell, molded together with the foam liner material. The unbreakable aramid weave bonds with the foam liner, adding a totally new structural stability. Combining the unbreakable aramid weave with the foam liner creates a new

structural stability. The concept was first launched in our trail mountainbike helmet Trabec, and for this season, we also use it in our light free skiing helmet Fornix. DH r ace helmets After studying accidents in Downhill and Super-G 13

racing, it became obvious that due to the higher speeds, the violence in crashes is also more severe than at moderate speeds. Even though todayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s advanced standard helmets are good, they are simply not developed for the velocities in the race skiing speed events. Therefore, we came up with a new construction, based on the

well proven Skull Comp concept, but adding more protective material and volume for a more appropriate level of protection. The increased thickness allows us to optimize the helmet for higher speeds without giving up protection in more moderate speed crashes. The result is the Skull Comp DH helmet.

The target with the Fornix helmet was to provide adequate protection in a lightweight and well ventilated construction. We used the Aramid bridge concept, initially developed for the ground breaking Trabec trail bike helmet, and optimized it for use in the Fornix structure. By applying Aramid in strings and molding them together with the foam liner we were able to keep a low weight, but at the same time increasing the structural stability and protection. Since the tensile strength in the aramid fibers is very high and the fiber is bonded to the helmet structure, the energy is dispersed over the entire bridge, giving the helmet better energy absorbtion. The ventilation system is built on 6 vents at the top using a sliding plate for easy opening/closing, as well as front and rear vents in order to allow air to easily flow through the construction. The front of the helmet is designed not only to seamlessly integrate with the goggles, but also to prevent the goggles from fogging. This is achieved by vertical vents that channels the air downwards. The Fornix helmet is also equipped with turn-ring size adjustment system. Sizes: XS-S, M-L, XL-XXL

In alpine Downhill and Super-G events, the athletes are pushing the boundaries, going faster as well as jumping higher and longer. When crashing at high speed the violence is more severe and calls for specific protective equipment. The Skull Comp DH is developed with the fundamental approach that more protective material allows us to provide better protection. Quite simple, but however neglected so far. The increased thickness allows us to optimize the helmet for higher speeds without giving up protection in more moderate speed crashes, where accidents still happen also for Downhill and Super-G athletes. We wanted to make something different, specifically aimed towards women. We looked at the specific needs and the anatomy among female users. The result is a custom version of Skull Light for women, taking into consideration the slightly different head shape of women, who in general have wider head in relation to length, compared to men. Synapsis 2.0

The Synapsis helmet is developed to be ultra light, without sacrificing safety. In version 2.0, Synapsis is updated with a turnring adjustment system for improved fit. The unique manufacturing process of the Synapsis 2.0 makes it possible to make a very light helmet, still certified according the CE-1077 as well as ASTM standards. This has been achieved by using POC´s patent pending ballistic Anti Penetration Barrier, APB. In the injection process, the Aramid is placed between the thin outer shell and the liner. This makes the helmet withstand penetration despite its low weight. The optional visor is included. Sizes: S – XL

The ultimate race helmet, upgraded. The Skull Comp is now updated to version 2.0, adding a new unique safety feature. After finding that today’s race skiers repeatedly hit gates hard and risk to deform the liner, we shifted the core material to multi impact EPP. On top of the liner, we use a thin outer shell in combination with our patented Aramid membrane penetration barrier, APB. The Skull Super Comp is based on the Skull Comp 2.0 concept but with a carbon fiber shell. Carbon shells have so far not been a very good solution in ski helmets since they become to stiff and thick which counteracts the performance wanted. The carbon shell in this case makes sense. VPD 2.0

The new VPD 2.0 range offers extreme shock absorption properties, which gives us a completely new alternative in the traditional trade-off situation between flexibility and real protection. Due to the ability of transition from soft to hard when needed and the extreme shock absorption properties, you no longer have to choose between freedom of movement and proper protection. VPD 2.0 offers a better flexibility in cold temperatures and has an increased tear resistance. To further improve anti penetration properties, the back protector has a durable thermoplastic polymer sheet integrated for extra protection at the spinal area. The slightly revised material compound is still highly dampening, soft, comfortable and adapts to create an individual fit. When exposed to impact, the material stiffens and has an extreme absorption of energy. Multi Impact Many protectors out there are lightweight, but less efficient when it comes to shock absorption. Others are light and can take one blow with proper shock absorption, but a second blow to the protector will transfer a much higher amount of energy and the third hit an even higher amount. The VPD material stays at the same high absorption level. This is an important issue for us since we believe that a protector will take several beatings both during one fall, but also during its complete life time.

ith the experience gained in goggle optics, POC decided to take the next step with the conviction that we would also be able to make a difference in the field of high performance eyewear and goggles. Both goggles and performance optics are developed to optimize need, function and protection, depending on activity and

Along with protecting your eyes from snow, ice, rain, slipstream, UV-rays, branches etc as well as assisting your vision in different light conditions, we have worked on optimizing the field of view, for better periphery perception, fast reaction and therefore promoting safety. NXT lenses ARE USED IN POCâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s performance eyewear and googles and was initially developed for fighter jet canopies. The properties include extreme impact, temperature and chemical resistance, together with superior optical performance versus existing technologies, i.e polycarbonate.

These double lenses for goggles have the outer lens injection molded. This allows for great variation of the shape and geometry, allowing optimized coverage and 3D shape of the lens. To help you keep your lens clean and clear you will also find an excellent Oleophobic/Hydrophobic treatment as well as an Anti-scratch/Anti-fog treatment. Except for these unique “basic” features you can choose to add a Photochromatic filter or our unique 3P – POC partially polarized lens. Double vs Single lens In all our PC double lens constructions, the outer lens is made of Polycarbonate, which has the best anti scratch treatment available. All models with the Polycarbonate lens are 100% (99,9%) UV blocking and they also provide good penetration resistance. In our single lens construction, Iris Comp, the lens is made in Cellulose Propionate with a anti fog coating. The single lens is used to minimize the optical distortion and in this case the lens will not have the same high degree of protection against scratches nor fog as the double PC lens. So only choose the Comp version if you are a competitive racer who really prioritize to minimize the optical distortion.

VLT – Visible Light Transmission A measurement that specifies the percentage of light coming through the lens and reaching your eyes, a totally clear lens for dark conditions typically have around 90% VLT and a very dark colored lens with mirror for sunny conditions may have down to 10% VLT. Most allround lenses will be found between 30 to 60 %. In the range of POC goggles you will find alternatives for all kinds of conditions.

Colors vs. light conditions The color spectrum runs from blue to red with a lot of different shades in between. The color sensation and perception will differ between individuals and due to this the choice of lens color will to an extent be a subjective matter. One basic rule explains the contrast enhancing effect by studying the color spectrum. When choosing a lens with yellow, orange, pink or red color it blocks out more of the blue end of the color spectrum. This enhances contrast, enabling you to make out shapes, objects, and bumps in the snow more clearly. These lenses work well in low light, fog and flat light, but also in moderate light. However some individuals experience good contrast by blocking the other end of the spectra as well, by using a blue tint.

POC WO Over the 7 year we have been around, we have come to learn about anatomy and the differences between genders. There are differences and we admit that we have been discriminating, as a number of products only had male users in mind.

POC WO was extracted on the basis that we wanted females to be able to use the same products, with the same comfort and perfect fit. After a bit of movement, a normal back protector tend to not stay in place and might end up far to high on a female back. This due to narrower waist and hips. Female heads and hands are usually smaller and fingers are longer in comparison to width, which calls for specially adapted helmets, goggles and gloves. Many women also suffer from cold hands which calls for more insulation in the gloves. This is why we thought it would make sense to develop products that would fight these issues and simply offer more adequate products for women.

pocito is a series of products for kids between 4 and 10 years old, all developed to prevent

accidents or to decrease the severity of injuries in an accident. children these days face a vulnerable situation, often skiing on crowded slopes among over-excited adults running fiercely downhill, many of whom are more or less out-of-control but sadly unaware of it. Statistics show that one of the fastest-rising types of accidents on the slopes comes from kids being run into by adult skiers. If a child weighing perhaps 20% that of an adult is hit at high speed, they need an outstandingly good helmet, together with a back protector, to protect the most vital parts of their bodies.

POC is proud to present POCito, a range of products for kids that complies with our mission of reducing the consequences of skiing accidents and possibly saving lives. in other words, child skiers need effective, customized protection, and they also need to

be seen. Our ambition is clear, to make no compromises on kids’ protection, but to design products that are at least as good as the adult gear, while trying to understand the specific needs of children’s safety. But is there any chance of preventing these accidents?

Yes, in many cases we believe there is. Beyond issuing information to skiers in general, we have developed products to alert surrounding skiers to slow down or pay attention and have chosen the most effective colors and properties for these. avalanches are another risk. These days ski patrollers are forced to dig out even the smallest avalanches across ski runs because of the risk of a child being hidden beneath the snow. All of our kids’ helmets are therefore equipped with an avalanche reflector from Recco®. All products also have visual reflectors to make children clearly visible in areas around skiing, for example in car parks or near traffic. while we were developing these products, people told us that it is impossible to market kids’ gear that provides the quality and protection that we are seeking. At POC, we believe it’s exactly the opposite. Most parents would never compromise their children’s well-being or safety and buy something because it’s cheap, if it is not good enough. And most of the kids’ protection on the market today is less safe and performs less well than what is possible with modern technology.
