Optimized 90 years of Völkl – 90 years of “Made in Germany” Better performance, lower weight, better durability— each year our engineers spend countless hours at their computers, in the lab and out on the slopes testing, researching and developing skis that are better than any ever seen before. If it sounds like hard work, that’s because it is. Countless prototypes are built each year in the Völkl workshops. Of those, more than 750 are tested on-snow before being whittled down to the models for serial production. Ultimately our work can be summed up in one simple formula:
Greater performance = more skiing fun + better protection For more than 90 years now, the Völkl plants in Straubing have been at the epicenter of ‘Made in Germany’ ski collections that are trendsetters for the entire industry. Our philosophy is a holistic one: we are forever striving for the ‘perfect setup’. Our production facilities have been designed to conserve resources and promote sustainability; when we develop a new technology, we don’t just look at the ski, but always at the interplay between snow, ski, binding, boot and skier. This way of thinking and working is especially visible in the 13-14 collection highlights:

UVO Working in close coordination with our binding partner Marker, we are now proud to present our latest new technology: the ingenious UVO. It is the first vibration absorber in the history of ski construction to work in 360° — for Völkl, it represents the next steps toward the ‘perfect setup’. All skis equipped with the UVO system have been specially harmonized with its absorption properties,
resulting in skis that perform better and weigh less. While existing vibration absorption systems on the market have only ever been able to minimize vibrations along the length of the ski, the UVO system works in all directions - 360°. The measurable increase in performance made a strong impression during its initial World Cup introduction. We were even more amazed at the fact that when our testing expanded from the pros to ambitious skiers, the quietness of the ride on UVO-optimized skis delivered an immense benefit as well. This is why the 3D absorber is being integrated this year for the first time into the Racetiger RC and SC lines as well as the Code UVO.
V-WERKS GOES FREESKI The V-Werks line, one of last year’s big successes, is expanding. The Katana, long the off-piste weapon of choice for our competition team, is now available in a revolutionary, ultra-light full carbon V-Werks construction.
ROCKER FOR ALL Think the rocker is old news? Not at all. The construction principle for the rockered ski is groundbreaking, and its use now covers the entire Völkl collection. Two years ago Völkl launched the enormously successful Code series with a radical groomed trail ski that still has yet to meet its match. The numerous awards and ski tests for the RTM series speak volumes. In the freeski and touring categories cambered models have long been in the minority. The tip rocker shape has even been integrated into the competition-oriented Racetiger line. No other manufacturer has been as consistent in its implementation of target group-specific rocker principles. All levels of skiers can benefit from this construction in its various renditions, from the high full rocker to the moderate tip rocker shape. And that’s exactly how we build our skis: for everyone!

Bases made of 100% recyclable materials, the lowest possible volumes of resin, plastics-free top sheets, and edges composed up to 60% of recycled steel are all factors that earned Völkl three straight Eco Responsibility Awards at the international ispo sporting goods fair. These awards only strengthen Völkl’s resolve to achieve greater ecological sustainability and efficiency in our production.
In the process Völkl is driven by our own concept for integrating environmental protection and sustainability into the entire production process, in all departments and all processes. One example: since 2012 we’ve been using only biodegradable ECO wax. This offers top performance while still taking an important step toward ecological responsibility.

The revolutionary UVO technology utilizes the same underlying principles as a vibration damper. The strategically positioned floating mass reacts to vibrations and counteracts them by moving in the opposite direction of the vibration, thus reducing the impact of the vibrations to the ski. Similar systems can be found in a variety of areas, including industry and architecture, where they are used to dampen the influence of wind and earthquakes on high-rise buildings and bridges. Vibration dampers are integrated into critical portions of the construction to stabilize the structure. The building itself does not need to be built as structurally compact, allowing for lighter weight constructions with increased stability and function.
UVO dampens disruptive vibrations that constantly emerge as a result of varied terrain and uneven ground. The free-floating mass of the UVO follows the ski’s vibrations and counteracts them effectively. Because the greatest amplification of vibration occurs in the ski’s shovel, the UVO is positioned close to the ski’s tip for more effective minimization of the vibration phase. 3D dampening means that jolts and vibrations are handled from all directions (360°). The result: the ski’s edge contacts the snow surface for a longer period and interruptions are minimized. The ski then holds edge grip more effectively. Functionality of a rocker ski In a nutshell: rocker skis rotate significantly more easily than a camber ski when laid flat on the slope or when drifting slightly with a moderate edge. The steeper the terrain on a turn, the longer the effective edge length, which means greater stability. In general, modern rocker skis with a properly harmonized flex cover a broader spectrum than cambered models. When a skier puts weight on a traditional cambered ski, the entire length of the ski contacts the slope. On a rocker ski only the middle section makes contact when the ski is flat. The term rocker refers solely to the curve of the ski and the reverse camber that results from it. Unlike a traditionally cambered ski, the rocker ski is not ‘tensioned’ at all. From a technical point of view, the rocker is in fact really a reverse camber. But that’s only half the story. For top performance a reverse camber ski needs adjustments to the construction, sidecut and binding position. The extent of the rocker and type also play a major role in performance and skier experience. As you can imagine a tip rocker ski with 2-3 mm of early rise tip will have very different characteristics compared to a full rocker model with 20 mm of tip and tail rise. A cambered ski is bent “into shape” by the weight of the skier, forming an arc that dictates the ski’s ideal turning radius. All rocker skis are subjected to an elaborate individual harmonization of their flex and team rider tests.

That’s why you can’t simply rebend an existing camber model into a rocker – the flow and precision of the steering is lost. This is also why the new Mantra received a completely new sidecut.
Opposite to a steep bending curve a softer bent (i.e. flatter) tip lets the ski float easier over the snow, instead of pushing it aside. Yet the upward bend is the most important tool in preventing the ski from digging into the snow. A rocker profile achieves both: a softer but longer upward bend results in the same tip height as a normal ski tip, without the danger of sinking into the snow. We test each model for the perfect tip height and bending curve.

RTM 84 / 81 XTD TRANSMISSION sidewall A light but highly stable full rocker shape, paired with an extra wide longitudinal reinforcement above the ski deck. The reinforcement belts are aligned to channel stress toward the outside of the ski. This works with the sidewall construction to prevent chatter and ensure that the necessary pressure is applied to the edges at high speeds.
RTM 80 Xtd dual transmission Like the RTM 84, the RTM 80 reinforced 3D construction channels forces to the edges, but in a less pronounced manner. The major difference between the 80 and the 84 is in the cap, rather than sidewall, construction. This makes this full rocker ski more forgiving and a bit softer in its general ride characteristics, yet it still delivers the necessary power reserves for athletic skiers pushing their limits.
RTM 77 xtd transmission The RTM 77 follows a similar construction philosophy, although the reinforcement is somewhat less pronounced, giving the ski a softer feel. Optimized for ambitious intermediates, the ski’s construction provides the edge pressure needed to rise up to the next level of speed and confidence. 3D technology for rocker skis

RTM 84 / 81 XTD TRANSMISSION sidewall A light but highly stable full rocker shape, paired with an extra wide longitudinal reinforcement above the ski deck. The reinforcement belts are aligned to channel stress toward the outside of the ski. This works with the sidewall construction to prevent chatter and ensure that the necessary pressure is applied to the edges at high speeds.
RTM 80 Xtd dual transmission Like the RTM 84, the RTM 80 reinforced 3D construction channels forces to the edges, but in a less pronounced manner. The major difference between the 80 and the 84 is in the cap, rather than sidewall, construction. This makes this full rocker ski more forgiving and a bit softer in its general ride characteristics, yet it still delivers the necessary power reserves for athletic skiers pushing their limits.
RTM 77 xtd transmission The RTM 77 follows a similar construction philosophy, although the reinforcement is somewhat less pronounced, giving the ski a softer feel. MOTION ipt wideride For skis wider than 80 mm, traditional bindings systems make the skier work harder for the same performance. Marker and Völkl developed the iPT Wideride system with a contact surface width 30% greater than standard. On top of that, the binding is mounted significantly closer to the edge of the ski. This helps the energy flow more directly and continuously to the edges. They make wider skis more agile, responsive and easier to control. The skis are better in tune with the skier’s signals and application of pressure and edge for a precise and powerful characteristic.

If you look at a junior or children’s ski, the binding zone takes up a disproportionately large part of the overall ski length. If you look at a junior or children’s ski, the binding zone takes up a disproportionately large part of the overall ski length. Traditional binding systems typically stiffen up that section of the ski. For longer ski lengths this is only a small impediment to a properly round flex.
