BACK IN THE DAYS.
Imagine sometime in the 80s, Como, a group of young guys with a huge passion for extreme sports, a lab, a stereo, and a music cassette full of funky tracks.With the stereo blasting awesome tunes, these guys would design, experiment, and build snowboards of all kinds, signing them with a primitive head and the writing FUNKY. This scenario represents the first chapter of a long history of pioneering in the world of snowboard, skateboard, windsurf and surf. The first snowboard ever built by Lucio Longoni (Godfather of Funky) was named Preistoria (prehistory), a board measuring 120cm in height, made entirely of wood with a slight turned up nose, and an engraving representing the name of the model. Since that day Funky began an intense technological study which landed its boards on some of the most prestigious podiums in the industry. In just a few years Funky became one of the leading brands in Europe, as well as having clients in the rest of the world, however it wasn’t long before the golden years came to an end. During the production of a big order destined to the USA, a flood destroyed most of the machinery and diminished half the completed boards to nothing more than a big pile of soaked wood. Funky was extinguished nearly as quickly as it had reached greatness, and that lab filled with passion and ideas was sadly forced to close down. The camber is tradition and the tradition must not be forgotten. The Agronaut is the perfect board for all those riders who more than anything else want to jump big, be precise in conduction and feel a board under their feet ready and responsive! The poplar and beech core exponentially increases the pop, making it extremely reactive, while the vulcan snake anti-shock, a particular rubber inserted between the core and the top sheet, stabilizes the board diminishing the vibrations. One of the most common problems in boards used to jump on large-sized kickers is found in cracks caused by strong stress applied in the areas close to the inserts. To make these areas more resistant we have applied carbon patches on the most fragile parts some, designed to redistribute the stress over a larger area thus minimizing the risk of breakages. Adventure and exploration have always been aspects that make this sport unique. Going in search of the best slopes, of the highest crests and of the snowier peaks is absolutely the best feeling that a rider can ever describe‌ and we at Funky are well aware of this. To simplify things, we decided to create an ultra lightweight Split model (275 gr), a technological bomb that guarantees exceptional performances both downhill and uphill. The carbon topsheet lightens the Split to the maximum, giving the perfect flex to the board. The camber gives more support surface to your skins by offering an excellent grip even under difficult situations. The attention to detail and choice of materials has been extremely meticulous.
