GAME - CHANGING, ECO - FRIENDLY SNOWBOARDING. Niche is based out of Salt Lake City, Utah, and since 2009 has been dedicated to providing the global snowboard community with a quality product whose environmental impact is lessened by thoughtful design, conscious material selection and the desire to craft quality snowboards. We believe snowboarding and creativity go hand-in-hand, and are passionate about making boards that are lighter, snappier and more durable than most traditionally constructed decks. At Niche Snowboards, we’ve changed the way we think about the relationships between our materials, our environment, and ourselves. We firmly believe that small steps, when multiplied by many people, can change the world. Bottom line, what makes us different is our passion for quality, good design, and making the most environmentally conscious snowboards in the industry. We’re certainly not perfect, but we continually strive to be better, and hope our success will inspire change in the snowsports industry and lead to good things for you and the planet we all share.

THE MOTHERSHIP Ma de p r oudl y in Au st ri a. The smallest of decisions we make on a daily basis matter. At Niche Snowboards, our goal from day one has been to create quality snowboards using environmentally conscious materials and manufacturing practices. We are honored to have partnered with The Mothership: the most environmentally friendly and advanced snowboard factory on the planet. 100% Hydro Powered: The Mothership is directly connected to the river Gail, which provides 100% of the energy used for heating and cooling of the facility, as well as the energy for production. ZERO CO2 Emissions: By using the NH3 natural gas heating system, for every 1 unit of energy consumed by the system, 5 units of energy for heating and cooling is achieved. 98% L ocally S ourced M aterials: By using regional ground travel instead of obtaining materials from every corner of the globe to be shipped back out again, less energy is used, less emissions are released, and local businesses are supported.

We feel that this partnership is a match made in heaven, and are beyond thrilled to have found a home with like-minded, passionate people, who share our desire to make choices that lessen our impacts on the planet and preserve the climate we need in order to enjoy snowboarding. Working with The Mothership will give us the ability to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in snowboard manufacturing, and we are excited to see what we can accomplish, together. We are all connected, and we hope to bring you even better products, made proudly in Austria.

RECYCLAMINE ® Wo r l d ’ s f i r st tr ue ze r o-wa s te s nowbo ard man u f act u ri n g. The Mothership offers complete in-house production capabilities as well as a state of the art R&D lab and on-site testing slope. Onsite in-line testing of raw materials and finished product ensures the highest standard of manufacturing from start to finish. Niche Snowboards is excited to announce the first 100% fully recyclable snowboard, allowing all manufacturing waste and the product itself to be recycled and repurposed for reuse at the end of its product life cycle. We have teamed up with Connora Technology and Entropy Resins to apply their Recyclamine® technology into our manufacturing process. By

using

Recyclamine®,

it is possible to harvest all the raw materials from a

snowboard to be repurposed or recycled .

Recyclamine® curing agents are the only epoxy hardeners available that enable full recyclability of thermosetting epoxy resins. This technology provides chemical resistance and mechanical properties similar to conventional, non-recyclable aminecured epoxies. Flexibility, toughness, and low temperature properties are equal or superior to conventional epoxies. The use of this revolutionary technology provides an end of life solution for snow sports products, and for the waste created during the manufacturing process. The resins within the snowboard can be dissolved and broken apart using a top-secret solution, enabling us to harvest all virgin structural components and materials. These materials can then be recycled, repurposed or upcycled to create other new products like surfboard fins, binding components, or an unlimited array of possibilities. We are currently working on creating thoughtful collaborations within the snowsports industry, and look forward to working together to create better manufacturing solutins for us all.

MATER DIGI-PRINT TOPSHEET Most snowboard makers cover their topsheets in a thick, toxic lacquer to add shine. This is not only toxic to the environment; it’s unhealthy for people working in the factory. Digi-Print uses a lacquer-free topsheet material that’s also thinner than most snowboard topsheets. This cuts down on excess material and makes your board lighter. We digitally print directly onto the topsheet, cutting up to 60% of the material and 75% of the energy wasted during alternate printing processes.

SNAPPY SAP™ BIO RESIN Traditional resins can be extremely toxic to people and the environment. For our snowboards, we partnered with Entropy Resins to create our one-of-a-kind, Snappy Sap™ BioResin. As opposed to traditional epoxies made primarily of petroleumbased materials, Snappy Sap™ BioResin is composed of bio-renewable materials from the industrial waste streams of the paper pulp and biofuels industry. These natural components help the environment by: • 45% material sourced from sustainable, bio-renewable materials • Lower environmental impact from processing – reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, reduced water and energy consumption, reduced wastes • Eliminates harmful byproducts Snowboard benefits:

WATER-BASED INKS Niche uses non-toxic, solvent-free, uv-based inks for printing graphics on all snowboard production.

4

• Increased elasticity – provides more pop and spring to your board • Super high adhesion properties help keep your board from delaminating! • Toughness – combined these benefits make your board bomb proof

BASALT MAGMA FIBER The majority of the snowboard industry uses fiberglass in board construction. We have eliminated fiberglass in several of our models, replacing it with Magma Fiber™ crafted from basalt. Basalt is the product of volcanic activity. The fiberization process is more environmentally safe than that of glass fiber; the greenhouse gases that might otherwise be released during fiber processing were released eons ago during the magma eruption. Basalt is also 100% inert, which means it has no toxic reaction with air or water, and is noncombustible. And basalt is much easier to recycle than glass. • Our Magma Fiber shows 15-20% higher tensile strength than regular fiberglass. This means better impact absorption, strength, and elasticity. • Because basalt has a greater strength to weight ratio, less is needed to produce a snowboard. And less material means a lighter board! • Basalt does not absorb water. So if you chip your topsheet jibbing some gnar, your board will not absorb water and delaminate!

RIALS FLAX STRINGERS

SUSTAINABLE WOOD CORES

RECYCLED MATERIALS

Stringers are strips of material that change the personality of a board (i.e. giving a board more pop or more stiffness), and are typically made of carbon fiber or another type of wood. Niche has developed a totally new stringer technology using Flax Fibers!

The forests that our wood cores come from are managed carefully to meet the social, economic, ecological, cultural and spiritual needs of current and future generations. Our wood cores also come from a sustainable source, which means they are replaced by new trees!

Niche uses recycled materials in many components of our snowboard design and production. Such components used in our boards include:

Carbon uses lots of energy to process and releases half of its weight in CO2 and other pollutants when manufactured. Flax is an awesome eco-substitute! Flax stringers provide similar characteristics to carbon fiber, only they’re made from flax! They are strong, lightweight, and provide amazing vibration dampening characteristics, giving you a less chattery ride.

Here are some other requirements of our forest management:

Niche also utilizes basalt stringers for added pop, stability, and crazy vibration dampening properties.

• Recycled Steel Edges • Recycled ABS Sidewalls

• No use of hazardous chemicals • No conversion of forests or any other natural habitat • Appropriate management and identification of areas that need special protection (ex. cultural or sacred sites, habitats of endangered animals or plants) • Respect of international workers rights and Human Rights, with particular attention to indigenous peoples

BASALT STRINGERS

• Recycled Base Material

• All applicable laws must be followed, with no tolerance for corrupt or questionable business practices

RECYCLAMINE® Products using our revolutionary Recyclamine® resin system are able to be fully recycled at the end of their life span and all associated manufacturing waste will be reclaimed and upcycled into new products!

CAMBER PROFILES Camber Dominant Hybrid

Traditional camber with a flatter mid-section. Provides more stability, tons of pop, responsive edge control and will let you ride away without washing out. A modern update to a time-tested classic.

Flat to Early Rise Camber

Flat camber is a perfect medium between reverse and traditional camber. It allows you to float better in pow compared to traditional camber, while still having a loose, playful feel with maintained edge control.

Multi-Camber

Multi-camber is a camber medley, which gives you the pop and edge control of regular camber with the float of reverse camber. Reverse camber between your feet, and camber zones extending to the contact points for a super loose, catch-free feel.

TRACTION BUMPS

7X

2X

The wavy edge of Traction Bumps add contact points to your edges to give your board more edge control and stability, especially in icy conditions. It works like the serrated edge of a knife, and adds extra bite and grip, and max carving power to your ride.

W O M E N ’S

Where the gaunt bittern stalks among the reeds And flaps his wings, and stretches back his neck, And hoots to see the moon; across the meads Limps the poor frightened hare, a little speck; And a stray seamew with its fretful cry Flits like a sudden drift of snow against the dull grey sky. - Oscar Wilde

The artwork on the Sonnet was created by artist Zosia Olenska, and was inspired by the Japanese folklore of Tsuki No Usagi: the rabbit in the moon. The moon rabbit in folklore is a rabbit that lives on the Moon, based on pareidolia that identifies the markings of the Moon as a rabbit, similar to the idea of the man in the moon. The story exists in many cultures, prominently in East Asian folklore and Aztec mythology. In East Asia, it is seen pounding in a mortar and pestle, but the contents of the mortar differ among Chinese, Japanese, and Korean folklore. In Chinese folklore, it is often portrayed as a companion of the Moon goddess Chang’e, constantly pounding the elixir of life for her. The three hares symbol on the topsheet is a circular motif that, historically, appears in sacred sites from the Middle and Far East to the churches of Devon, England and historical synagogues in Europe. It is viewed as a puzzle, a topology problem or a visual challenge, and has been rendered as sculpture, drawing, and painting. Although its meaning is apparently not explained in contemporary written sources from any of the medieval cultures where it is found, it is thought to have a range of symbolic or mystical associations with fertility and the lunar cycle.

Look up, and you see things flying Between the day and the night; Swallows with spools of dark thread sewing the shadows together. A circle swoop, and a quick parabola under the bridge arches Where light pushes through; A sudden turning upon itself of a thing in the air. - D.H. Lawrence

The graphic on the Minx was created by Niche’s Creative Director, Ana Van Pelt, featuring illustration work by Zosia Olenska. The designs on the Minx and Knew are a connected story. While the flying squirrels on the topsheet of the Minx may look like cute and friendly creatures, secretly, they are actually creatures called Nodeppō. The nodeppō is an animal yokai which lives in Japan, deep in forested mountain valleys. They swoop down from trees at night, extinguishing flames, latching on to humans’ faces, smothering them and sucking out their blood. The nodeppō is also able to spit a stream of bats out of its mouth towards the faces of its victims, blinding them in a cloud of angry bats. The triple moon symbol on the topsheet of the Minx depicts a waxing crescent, a full moon and a waning crescent. It is representative of the rhythm of time. Cycle of life. Renewal. The never-ending circle is popular in Celtic symbolism; in this design, the full moon represents this and it holds onto each opposing aspect, the crescents. This tells us that everything is connected and never ends. Nothing is coincidence.

I enjoy strolling along the narrow path, As it meanders through the forest. It generates a feeling of relaxation, And puts my troubled mind to rest. The forest is peaceful and quiet. I appreciate its immense cover of shade, And I feel focused and comfortable In this sanctuary nature has made. I feel a sense of enchantment In the cool, refreshing air, As I seek the hidden secrets That the forest had to bear. I hear the strange sounds of the forest As I quietly make my way, And stop to observe the wonders Nature unfolds for me this day. I enjoy strolling along the narrow path, It brings a welcome peace of mind to me. I thank the forces of nature For this moment of soothing serenity. Joseph T. Renaldi

The design for the Theme was created by Ana Van Pelt, with sketchwork assistance from Zosia Olenska. The symbol in the center is a Unicursal Hexagram. It represents the microcosmic forces interwoven with macro-cosmic forces (the hexagram, the representation of the planetary or heavenly cosmic forces, the divine) and the interconnectedness of life and all things in the universe.

I fell under a silent lightning, and as I tumbled across the spiralling Earth, I couldn’t hear but the sounds of my panicked thoughts pumping through my veins and across my flesh, but still I wondered if anyone cared for my sudden fall. Perhaps they did and I was wrong, but for me the question that surrounds me day and night was whether they cared for the silent strike or the person who fell under its name. - SilentLightning

The artwork on the Aether was created by Alexander L. Brown, featuring typography from Adam Wester. The illustration is a depiction of Raijū: a legendary creature from Japanese mythology. Its body is composed of lightning and may be in the shape of a cat, fox, weasel, or wolf. Its cry sounds like thunder. Raijū is the companion of Raijin, the Shinto god of lightning. While the beast is generally calm and harmless, during thunderstorms it becomes agitated and leaps about in trees & fields. Trees that have been struck by lightning are said to have been scratched by Raijū’s claws.

Where the voice of the wind calls our wandering feet, Through echoing forest and echoing street, With lutes in our hands ever-singing we roam, All men are our kindred, the world is our home. Our lays are of cities whose lustre is shed, The laughter and beauty of women long dead; The sword of old battles, the crown of old kings, And happy and simple and sorrowful things. What hope shall we gather, what dreams shall we sow? Where the wind calls our wandering footsteps we go. No love bids us tarry, no joy bids us wait: The voice of the wind is the voice of our fate. - Sarojini Naidu
