Introduction When facing the challenges of life, the one thing you need is confidence. With state-of–the-art technology, the Sweet Protection helmets redefined protection when they were introduced. The progressive philosophy will always be the core of the company and the products. Stronger, lighter, better! We’re proud to present a new hardware collection with improved performance, as well as new colors, details and graphics. This year you’ll see the biggest improvement on our Ramblers. In addition to awesome new colors and graphics, we’ve revised the front area with a small lip. The geometry of the lip reinforces the front area making it stiffer, which provides better support for your goggles. To top it off, we’ve made an embossing for a new metal label. The Rooster LE’s have also been updated with a new TEPEX carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic shell, which together with the Trooper LE, provides the pinnacle of performance. The Rooster LE comes in either black natural carbon with black leather, or pearl silver anodized fibers with white leather. Light or dark, good or bad, it’s up to you! Pick the style and color that you like best, and most importantly, make sure the helmet fits perfectly. Ride on!

Chapter 02

Technical Information THE INTENTION OF A HELMET

The purpose of a helmet is to reduce the risk of injury to both the skull and the part of the head surrounded by the helmet. The protection a helmet provides depends on the circumstances of the accident. Keep in mind that wearing a helmet cannot always prevent death or long-term disability. To see how a helmet reduces the risk of injury, we need to look at the laws of physics. Sir Isac Newton made three laws about motion, and it’s his 2nd law that is most relevant; the law of acceleration. Acceleration means more than just speeding up. It is also means changing the speed or direction of an object, as well as slowing it down to a stop. Newton’s 2nd law goes like this:

m(v-v ) ˚ F = ma = t F = force m = mass a = acceleration v = velocity t = time. Here, Newton is saying that the rate of change in the momentum (mv) of an object is directly proportional to the amount of force exerted upon the object. In real life, while skiing or snowboarding, there’s only one factor a helmet is able to influence in this equation, and that is time. When you fall, you have a certain weight and speed, which is pretty much up to you. From the equation above you can see that the greater the time during the impact, the less force is placed on your head. In other words, a helmet absorbs energy by increasing the duration of the impact.

HELMET CONSTRUCTION

Our goal when constructing helmets is to make a very durable construction that protects the head with less volume than usual. We also want an excellent fit and a relatively low weight. In order to accomplish this, we have developed a brand new way of constructing a helmet. The most striking features are the carbon fiber reinforced composite main shell, as well as the fact that all Sweet Protection helmets are constructed as “neck hugging”. This means that the shell curves around the head and hugs the nape of the neck. Creating this can be done either by splitting the shell into two pieces or by molding the shell in one piece using a very sophisticated collapsible core tool with several sliders. In regards to the protection performance, all of our helmets share the same basic construction by using the following main components: 01. Carbon fiber reinforced composites 02. Neck-hugging construction 03. Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) shock absorbing padding 04. Fit Pads Allow at least fifteen minutes for adjustments the first time you try on a new helmet. If the strapping systems seem complicated, ask the retailer to help you adjust them for a good fit. Test your helmet fit each time you put it on. Adjust as needed. If used on a child, the helmet must be fitted and adjusted by an adult.

PUTTING ON THE HELMET

Place the helmet so it sits evenly on your head. Align the front edge of the helmet with a small gap, approx one finger-width above your eyebrows. If used with goggles there should be little or no gap between the helmet and goggles. Make sure the helmet is seated all the way down on the head. It should be placed to protect the forehead and not be pushed too far back over the back of the head. FIT TEST

Carefully roll or lift the helmet off your head. If the skin on your forehead moves gently, you have a good fit. PROPER USE

Always adjust and secure the chinstrap buckle before use. Adjust the straps so the helmet stays in place. Finally, adjust the twopoint harness for a perfect fit and protection. Both straps on each side should have the same tension. Make sure that you’re comfortable in your helmet. Go out and play!

IMPORTANT!

Use the Fit Pads to customize the helmet fit. Take the necessary time to find the best combination for your head and liking.

Technical Information 3-layer GORE-TEX® Pro Shell

GORE-TEX® Pro Shell is the optimal solution for professional outerwear to be used under extremely tough conditions. The 3-layer construction comprises of a specific high performance GORE-TEX® membrane, bonded to a tough outer material and a specially developed, robust woven inner lining. The result is an extremely rugged and durable laminate, made to meet the demands of outdoor professionals and serious enthusiasts. To ensure 3-Layer GORE-TEX® Pro Shell fabrics perform to consumers` expectations, we have tested the waterproofness and breathability in laboratory conditions very similar to intensive field use, (as well as our mandatory extensive outdoor tests performed on each product). The result: 3-Layer GORE-TEX® Pro Shell fabrics are not only extremely breathable, but also remain absolutely waterproof after more than 500 hours of wet flex and abrasion tests. 2-layer GORE-TEX® Performance Shell

The 2-Layer construction used for the GORE-TEX® Performance Shell is designed for a wide range of outdoor activities. A specific GORETEX® membrane is bonded to the outer material and protected on the inside by an independent and separate lining. GORE-TEX® Performance Shells provide breathable comfort, and durable waterproof and windproof protection. WINDSTOPPER®

This revolutionary structure is ultra-light, ultra-thin, and highly resistant to extreme temperatures. The microporous structure of the WINDSTOPPER® membrane ensures maximum breathability; cold wind is kept out, yet moisture vapor can escape easily. Integrated into the ePTFE portion of the membrane is a hydrophobic, or water-hating, substance to keep external moisture away from your skin. This thermo regulating effect keeps you comfortable longer, allowing you to perform at your best.

Polartec® Power Stretch®

The fabrics feature bodyhugging 4-way stretch and are very breathable. It will keep you dry when you sweat and provide warmth without weight. Polartec® Power Stretch® actively pulls moisture away from your body (wick), dries quickly, breathes and is comfortable on your skin. No matter what season, weather condition or activity you face, this is the most critical layer for comfort and performance.

DOWN PrimaLoft®

Down offers excellent thermal properties, and has good lofting characteristics. This means that the down traps small pockets of air efficiently. The small pockets of air provide the thermal barrier. Down consists of clusters of fluffy filaments that grow from but do not contain the central quill shaft. Down insulation is rated by fill power, measured as the number of cubic inches displaced by a given ounce of down. Higher fill-power downs will thus insulate better than lower fill-power downs of the same weight. Insulation in most outdoor equipment garments range from ~400 to 800. For outdoor equipment, down is considered to be the single best insulating material available, due to its light weight, compressibility, and heat retention capabilities. Polartec® Thermal Pro®

With a fully waterproof construction inside and out, loads of pockets, and our unique back ventilation system that won the 2010 ISPO Boardsports Award*; it lets you stay cool when earning turns. The Crusader construction provides a great fit and a soft and light feel. It’s so advanced and stylish that you and the jacket will become one. Technical features like molded and laminated silicone stiffeners in the lower rear panel, easy grip waterproof laminated cord lock housing and a swivel snow skirt with stretch panels is what makes this jacket super functional. WINDSTOPPER® garments offer total windproofness and maximum breathability to keep you comfortable, warm and dry from the inside. WINDSTOPPER® products are 2X more breathable than comparable windproof products, and offer the same level of breathability as comparable nonwindproof products. Every square inch of the WINDSTOPPER® membrane contains 1.4 billion micropores. This revolutionary structure is ultra-light, ultra-thin, and highly resistant to extreme temperatures. The microporous structure of the WINDSTOPPER® membrane ensures maximum breathability; cold wind is kept out, yet moisture vapor can escape easily. Integrated into the ePTFE portion of the membrane is a hydrophobic, or water-hating, substance to keep external moisture away from your skin. This thermo regulating effect keeps you comfortable longer, allowing you to perform at your best.v

Our team wanted a performance jacket to slot in between the Tailgunner and the Hammer, and we came up with this; a rider oriented insulated jacket that will keep you comfortable in a wide range of temperatures. It comes with WINDSTOPPER® Shell, PrimaLoft® insulation and a tuck away swivel powder skirt to keep you warm and dry. The special asymmetric cut gives the Wizard a magic fit, especially around the chin area. It got loads of pockets to stash your stuff, too. The Wizard is the favorite jacket of urban rails expert and team rider Gulli Gudmundsson.

Environment, ethics & warranty Sweet Protection on products, the environment and ethics

We try to make as little impact on the environment as possible by developing high-quality, long lasting products. In our search for performance and durability, a lot of the eco-friendly materials fail to impress and we really don’t believe in making second-rate products. We do, however, always opt for eco-friendly materials whenever possible and luckily, there is an ever increasing range of great new materials to choose from. Irresponsible business practices, such as compromising working conditions, the exploitation of child labor, reckless use of natural resources and careless disposal of harmful waste, work contra to the principles of sustainable development. By considering the potential harmful impact of any business operation, and by making an effort to regulate aspects that may be harmful, a company can contribute to making things better. Sweet Protection works only with suppliers that positively represent our declared values, and who also work to improve conditions both internally and externally by putting pressure on their suppliers. As a small company, it is very difficult to achieve full insight into conditions at the sub-supplier level. We are, however, confident that our firsthand partners represent our values to a degree that makes us proud. Our ethical guidelines and declared goals are listed in a document called ”Code of Conduct”, which can be downloaded from our website. The code of conduct document is based on internationally recognized ILO (International Labor Organization) and UN (United Nations) conventions and treaties. WARRANTY INFORMATION

Our simple mission is to build the best possible products. We always seek to use the most advanced materials, technology and production methods. Sweet Protection AS warrants all products to be free of defects in material or workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the date of purchase. If a Sweet Protection product fails due to defects in craftsmanship or materials, within the warranty period, we will repair or replace the product free of charge. Be aware that this warranty is limited to the original purchaser only. For detailed information please see the guideline below and/or the product specification following the product. If you have any questions regarding our services or guarantees, please feel free to contact our service centre by e-mail at: warranty@sweet.no / warranty@sweetprotection.com THE WARRANTY PROCESS -- Before you return any product you must contact Sweet Protection by phone or e-mail to obtain a return authorization -- Arrange and pay for transport to Sweet Protection. Dirty and/or foul smelling garments/helmets will be returned unprocessed or may delay the process with an additional surcharge. -- Remember to include a note with your name, address and phone number AND, make sure to include a short statement explaining the warranty problem. WASHING & MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

GORE-TEX® products are not only built to last, they’re also easy to take care of. Routine care and maintenance on your part will ensure the highest performance from them and extend their useful lifespan. Follow the recommended care instructions – typically found on an inside tag – and your GORE-TEX® products will be ready to go when you are.

Dry

Tumble-dry warm. The heat from the dryer will help to reactivate the durable water repellent (DWR) treatment on your garment’s outer fabric. Water repellent treatment

Wash

104˚F 40˚C

Machine-wash warm (104°F / 40°C). Use powder or liquid detergent. No fabric softener.

GORE recommends applying a topical water repellency restorative (DWR treatment) for outdoor fabrics, available at your local outdoor retailer. We do not recommend wash-in treatments as they can affect the garment’s breathability.

Dry Clean Stain removal

If professionally dry-cleaned, request clear distilled solvent rinse and spray repellent. Iron

Use a pre-wash treatment such as Shout® or Spray ‘n Wash®. Rinse well. Restoring water repellency

Steam-iron warm. Place a towel or cloth between the garment and the iron. No need to iron the garment until it is completely dry. Bleach

No chlorine bleach. It may damage your garment.

“Wet out” can put a real damper on your day. That’s when liquid saturates your garment’s outer fabric layer above the GORE-TEX® membrane, leaving you feeling damp and clammy – as if your garment were leaking, even when it’s not. To prevent wet out, all GORE-TEX® shell fabrics are treated with an ultra-thin treatment called DWR, a durable water repellent polymer that is applied to the outermost fabric layer.

DWR penetrates the fibers and lowers the surface tension of the fabric, causing water to bead up and roll off this outer layer of fabric, instead of being absorbed. DWR is not permanent. Regular wear and tear, exposure to dirt, detergents, insect repellent, and other impurities can shorten its lifespan. The good news is that restoring the water repellency of your GORE-TEX® shell is extremely easy. How to restore water repellency

Just machine wash it, rinse it, and put it in the dryer. Follow the instructions above or on the care label inside your garment. The washing removes dirt and the heat from the dryer helps redistribute the DWR treatment on the fabric surface. If water fails to bead up on the surface of your cleaned and tumble-dried garment, its DWR treatment has reached the end of its useful life. You can restore the garment’s water repellency by applying a typical water repellency restorative (DWR treatment) for outdoor fabrics, available at your local outdoor retailer. We do not recommend wash-in treatments, as they can hinder your garment’s breathability.
