CHICAGO FIRE BOATHOUSE Concept: To create a re boathouse that is community inclusive and celebrates its location on the Chicago River through its form and position on site while preserving outdoor spaces. My goal for this project was to create a design that integrates as much of the site’s natural surroundings as possible. It was important to preserve and enhance these natural surroundings. To do this I used large open glazing and shifted focus towards the largest natural component near the site, the Chicago River. Additionally, the site was left as open as possible to leave room for a park to be built next to the parking lot.

DU FOLLY
SEPTEMBER 2021
Concept: To create emphasis on consistent repetition and interact with natural sunlight. For this project we were tasked with incorporating the modern technology of video walls into the design of a folly that is inspired by a famous building. This project was inspired by the Thorncrown Chapel by E. Fay Jones. My takeaways from the Thorncrown Chapel was the repetitive nature of the structure and its interaction with the sunlight. I incorporated these characteristics by arranging a repetitive beam and column pattern at various heights. This creates a layering effect that makes the cast shadows from the beams intersect with eachother, which imitates the cross beams of Thorncrown Chapel. On the inside of each column there is a weather-proof electronic screen which will project part of any image or video that has been sent to its system.

ESHERICK HOUSE REIMAGINED
DECEMBER 2020
Concept: Build Louis Kahn's Esherick House in Revit and recreate it using a different materiality and climate. The goal of this project was to introduce Revit into our architectural skill set and to do so, we were tasked with reimagining the Esherick House. This design includes high vaulted ceilings and vertical support beams to emphasize the use of heavy timber. In the original design Kahn used wooden elements, light, and visual connections to implement a natural theme. To compliment this, each element of his design (wood, light, and visuals) was exaggerated. Not only is the exterior dominated by wood, but there are also wooden ceilings and oorboards. The large windows in the front of the house to create a stronger visual connection to the surrounding nature. These large windows provide a visual aesthetic that strengthens Kahn's original ideas. This feature also responds to the change from the original climate that the Esherick House was located in. Designing large open windows allow copious amounts of direct sunlight into the living areas. The direct sunlight positively affects the house in two ways. First, it provides sufcient heating for the house which combats the surrounding arctic climate. Second, it illuminates the interior spaces which is one of Kahn's original ideas for the house. Looking at the lower region of the house, there are sturdy support beams elevating it above ground level. This drastic change to the Esherick House accommodates for the snow on the ground and keep the foundation of the house from being damaged.

ASKINOSIE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
MAY 2021
Concept: An infusion of nature and architecture that follows the sloping topography through layered massing that steps back into the hillside.
The design for the Askinosie Chocolate Factory is located in Eureka Springs, AR which is known for its extremely hilly topography. Taking this into consideration, the topography greatly impacted the building. A retaining wall was put up along the southeast edge of the site in order to atten out the site and create an entrance level at the corner which faces the intersection. By doing so, the factory's main facade faces towards the most trafc-heavy side of the site which would attract as many customers or guests as possible. Since the surrounding topography dramatically rises in elevation as one goes northwest, a fourth level was added as another entrance for guests to enter from the park area. Additionally, a fth level was added to allow access to the roof area on top of the fourth level and give purpose to that square footage as a place for the public to enjoy. Stacking and setting back each oor creates a sense of hierarchy within the factory. The rst level indicates that its a level for public use and for anyone passing by to be introduced to the chocolate factory. As one progresses up through the oors, each level becomes increasingly important to the chocolate making process.

Concept: Natural elements such as plants, sunlight, and open air are used as inspiration in order to incorporate green areas and views into the grocer and lofts so that the guests will become more connected to nature and feel welcomed into the space itself.
The idea for this grocer and loft building was to take every opportunity to incorporate natural elements into the design. There is a central interior atrium that's open to the outside which celebrates this idea the best because it brings nature to the center of attention. This atrium is centered over a green space which is accessible to the public on the rst oor. By placing the atrium in the center, indirect sunlight is able to illuminate the interior and increase ventilation throughout the building.Additionally, there is a thoughtfully designed park that the public can enjoy right in front of the building.
