Concept
We're designing a four-speed gear shift lever in response to internal transmission accessory needs. To ensure innovation and distinctiveness, we're analyzing existing products and competitors.
Since this is our first independent product development venture, collaborative definition of the product style is essential.
After sketching our concepts, we use CAD software to design and create a parts list. We then leverage 3D printing for trial assembly, enabling iterative optimization of the design through component adjustments.
As we venture into bicycle product design, thorough research is key. We'll analyze existing products, compare them with our initial sketches, and pinpoint areas for improvement to optimize our design concept.
After multiple data adjustments, we finalized 2D and 3D drawings. Detailed discussions with the mold factory led to establishing tolerance specifications and material considerations. We also defined appearance and material properties specifications to ensure adherence to assembly, quality inspection, and packaging standards. Proof

Problems encountered
1. Not familiar with the operational mechanisms and structures of transmission components.
2. The company, formerly a contract manufacturer, did not prioritize corporate identity and requires in-depth investigation.
3. In modeling, there is a need to redefine and strengthen the configuration of surfaces and ribs.
4. Coordinating various components requires specifying tolerances, but during my university studies, the focus was mainly on exterior design with limited exploration of internal dimensions.

How to solve
To understand the collaboration among components, I observe their relationships and gather information about their names and materials to enhance my understanding.
I plan to interview the chairman to grasp the company's management philosophy, future expectations, and gain insights into the current product portfolio and production scale. This will help define the company's corporate identity.
Utilizing online resources is essential since everyone in the company has distinct roles. I strive to independently learn and address issues as they arise.
Having spent the first three months focusing on fixture improvements on the assembly line, I apply the same principles to define current design projects.
Building relationships with colleagues and offering assistance provides insights into each department's responsibilities. This way, by understanding the company's dynamics, I can gain a deeper understanding of the product's production history.
