Presenting and Being Presented

----Architecture Department Renovation

This project has been a renovation project, in which the old buildings have been built in 1970’s with a consideration and application of traditional teaching mode. This project aims to convert the old into a suitable series spaces for the present teaching mode and ever the future. Through the survey it has been found that the architectural professional learning has been closely related with the communication, curation and presenting. Therefore, the design tend to be a merge or fusion of study and exhibition spaces. This project employs a new methods of triggering contigency and potential of spaces by direct contact and thorough optimisation, in order to have more complex characteristics and types of spatial application.

The daily study

Analysis of building space

Space combination

Through the investigation of the design course stage of legal person architecture students of different grades, it is found that they repeatedly repeat the process of listening, looking and speaking in the daily design process, indicating that they have great demand for exhibition space and communication space

In order to explore the spatial characters of the accidental collision between exhibition space and architecture department space, the project has selected four architecture departments and four famous art galleries with different spatial characteristics, extracting their five most characteristic spaces respectively by marking them to provide possible potential spatial development characteristics.

By meaning of extracting the characteristics of the spatial in a random order, using the subjective judgment, an exhibition space has been combined with a pavilion space, in which you should not only consider the usability of space, but also consider the space complex traits in the process of more space collision random. In the work process, exploring the spatial characteristics at the same time, it has been a blend of exhibition space and the spatial characteristics of the teaching space.

Space optimization and formation

From the above 9 combined Spaces, the best six Spaces have been selected and further optimized, including the combing of architectural streamline and the adjustment of appropriate spatial scale, etc.. Meanwhile, the optimized Spaces have been analyzed and expressed through space division, space openness and space profile respectively. Finally, the six optimized Spaces have been recombined to form a coherent new l-shaped architectural space, which has been cross-combined with the old buildings to form a complete line of the design.

Vertical growth

----Residential Design

Nearly 900 million people around the world have lived in slums without adequate water, sanitation or adequate housing. In 2025, an estimated 1.6 billion people -- a fifth of the world's population -- will lack access to secure, adequate and affordable housing. More and more disadvantages have been exposed in solving the housing crisis by building large-scale subsidized housing projects. Therefore, a proper way to deal with the housing crisis has been for local communities to be able to participate actively in the process of the housing selection and construction responding to their own problems and create their own opportunities. The new housing crisis should not be considered as a fixed mode, but a mode which is able to be free assembled in the construction, and also be with the change of household structure and age level. In this mode, building space should be increased and decreased accordingly to adapt to the needs of the residents of the "Housing for All Users". This project shall be a solution responding to the above mentioned considerations. At the same time, the land in big cities has been becoming increasingly scarce. In view of the differences from the conventional flat floor household design, the project has proposed the internal growth mode of "Vertical Expansion", which has been in the purpose of achieving the common resonance to the change of residents' needs with minimal blueprint, expressing the personality of residents in the living space. As the space has been expanding in the plane surface, it also has paid more attention to the free growth in the vertical direction, in which the apartment types can be freely joined together to form different residential combinations, showing a strong adaptability to different sites. A shortage of council housing

Houses with vertical extension development

London has been one of the most fashionable and popular cities in Britain and one of the most expensive in the world. As a pioneering city, large numbers of people have flocked to London for good job opportunities and decent salaries. As a result, the price of housing has started to soar greatly. Accordingly, the gap between housing supply and demand in London has become wider and wider.London has seemed to be trapped in the situation of an ongoing housing crisis, with fewer units being built each year. Especially after the implementation the scheme plan of "Refusal Right", the stock of housing in London have been greatly reduced. Meanwhile, the low-income people have had to face the expensive rent, so most of them have had to live in very poor health conditions in the slums of, which not only has brought the hidden danger itself to habitant health problems, but also brought about the city more increased pressure in the aspect of the safety and health. What’s more, with the number of homeless people on London's streets rising every year, the housing crisis should be solved as soon as possible taking actions under way.

145°

Unit pattern combination

Most of the apartment types have been extended in the horizontal direction, which has presented in a large limitation. Instead of increasing the housing capacity and saving the building area, they have been extended in the vertical direction. In view of it, 145° hypotenuse suitable for step walking has been put forward as the basic unit for a combination.

The hypotenuse of 145° has been used as the base unit to be conducted with a combined simulation of six different facade graphic patterns suitable for spatial development. The six different facade graphic patterns have been combined performing a two-figure combination again in order to form more complicated surface space. As the surface space has been constituted, the graph of suitable residential space has been selected out and summarized, in which the three basic units of residential space have been screened out as well.

House type

In view of the different demands of enjoying more sunshine and protecting personal private space in the 5 kinds of living functional Spaces, the principle of house type combination has been formulated. Combined the matching of the above family units to functional Spaces, the different house types of single has been figured out in the modes of double and multi-person families , which has listed to show the diversity and variability of the house types. single

Through the survey and investigation, it has been concluded that people with housing difficulties in London have been mostly concentrated in the age group of 26-55 years old, in which the family- structure has mainly been presented in single, double and multifamily. Therefore, living space with different functions has been corresponded according to three different living demands. At the same time, 3200mm has been utilized taken as the modulus of the three basic living units to adapt to the appropriate living space scale, in which the corresponding living functional space has been corresponded to be employed based on the size of the scale and the different spatial forms.v

Structural node design

Architecture has been built with steel frame for stress system, being with the general framework of component connection, in which the X axis has realized the three bar node structure form, the Y axis has employed the two bar node structure form, the structure of mortise and tenon joint connection has been applied to realize the building without nail component assembly, at the same time can be effectively protected it in order to make sure the safety of the framework stability.

Functional space design

The three basic living units have generated 16 basic functional unit modules according to the correspondence of different functional Spaces and the scale of spatial depth. The original unit modules have been applicable to the functional requirements of different family structures and the personalized customization requirements of residents. On this basis, each change module has been added on the basis of the original unit module to adapt to the combined requirements according to different household types. Module variation has been different mainly based on the number and direction of module connection ports.

Single-storey residential mosaic

A traffic core can be connected into 6 family units, but in the residential adaptation process, the building can adapt with different changes to different sites and different household capacity requirements. The six households have been considered as a complete housing combination. In the process of the construction, 2 households, 3 households and 4 households can also be considered as one housing unit. When the housing capacity has been regarded in a restricted space then the small units can be selected as the combination, and the housing types will not be affected each other. At the same time, due to the variety of household forms, the same household units will also form different occupation shapes to suit different sites.

The formation of residential buildings According to the project for the definition of "Civil Residence", the house type has been divided into two modes, which has been for one being with the single residential apartment on type A, the other one with the family residential building with type B, jointed mainly on family between two basic community boundaries to ensure they can be combined in seamless splicing. Meanwhile, the community can be chosen to be combined according to their different types of residential community combination, in which there have been basically A + A, A + B, B + B three types. According to the length and width ratio for the housing plot, you can choose different number of residential building to make a combination.

Living-metabolism of architecture

Cities and buildings are not static, instead, it is a dynamic process like biological metabolism. As in Japan, the metabolisms believe that the city is a living organ, growing, evolving, maturing and dying. They are opposed that cities and buildings are only changed themself through the time under a rule to a fixed end. New Metabolism attempts to redefine the diversly changing relationship between human and the physical environment. In all kinds of ideas, this movement claim that architecture is a crutial part of the urban organism and evolve together with the others. Frombeingdesignedtoconstruction, fromusetomaintenance, fromabandonmenttodemolition, contemporaryarchitectureplaysastaticandpassiverole, beingunabletometaboliseandelvolveindependently, whichnot only consumes a lot of manpower and financial resources, but also generates a lot of garbage. It causes environmental degradation and excessive garbage. So can architecture be metabolised itself?

Architecture have their own lives and grow all the way until they are declared their death and renew themselves. At this time, as a perceptual and autonomous object, buildings not only interact with the existing society and environment, but also create their own culture and environment. Architecture may also showcase distinct appearance and functions in various time and physical environment. In this process, architectural form and function can generate different outcome with the change of time, telling their own life trajectory. It is no longer a static state, but a dynamic process of sustainability. Location: Beijing Instructor: Li Manting Time: 03-06.2021 Type: Architectural Design | Extracurricular | Teamwork Collaborators: Du Xinge The Harm of Garbage

At present, the rapid growth of garbage production in all areas of the world has become a more serious issue especially in East Asia and Australia. The generation of garbage not only affects the environment, occupies land space, but also leads to the spread of disease, which is very harmful. Therefore, in some developed countries, the degradation and reuse of garbage is actively carried out. In order to save costs, even construction garbage reuse rate is also very high. However, in China, due to the lack of government awareness of the problem of building waste disposal, construction waste can be stacked or buried randomly, which has caused great harm to the surrounding water environment, air environment and soil environment. Buildings are born, grow, but not die. This is the root cause of construction waste. According to two cases of artificial compound of bone and eggshell and bio-brick of mushroom mycelium, the hypothesis is put forward that building can have its own life, that is, using natural degradable materials instead of non-degradable materials such as reinforced concrete. 4.0 3.5 3.0 2.5 2.0 1.5 1.0 0.5 0

The future of modern cities

Once a city dies, it is abandoned or destroyed, but modern building materials are not sustainable. Unlike traditional Chinese architecture, it is metabolism and death. The cities that cannot be updated themselves will be garbage dumps in the future. Eventually, the ruins of these civilizations will become the ruin hid in the natural environment. If we can make the organic death of the buildings and allow the buildings to die within a certain period of time without any residual garbage, the vitality and life of the city will be more durable.

Be destroyed

War

Fire

Volcanic eruption

due to war, natural change, politics, economy and other factors, people eventually give up the city.

Tsunami

Be abandoned the reason for the abandonment of the city is probably the migration of human civilization.

Type evolution and analysis

Through the actual experiment of eggshell and the process of ameba algorithm simulating eggshell morphology, the relevance of ameba to the simulation of eggshell degradation was verified. The simulation results under different conditions - "small monomer" space was obtained by using different maternal morphology of ameba, and its lighting, ventilation, liquidity and privacy were evaluated. Amoeba, which is transliterated as amoeba in Chinese, is also called amoeba. It is a single celled protozoa, composed of only one cell, which can change its body shape as needed. Users can apply mechanical and other boundary conditions to the initial design area according to the design needs, and optimise it through software calculation.

The death of cities The death of a city is inevitable at the moment of the birth of the city. It is only a matter of time. When the decline of the city begins, the population begins to decrease, and a large number of buildings enter the deserted state where no one is used. Cities from small to large are gradually declining. Eventually, a large number of empty cities are formed.

When the eggshell is soaked with acid, a large number of bubbles appear on the surface of the eggshell at first, and then the hole type wounds appear, and then the eggshell becomes soft and cracked, which has a certain correlation with the morphological changes simulated in the ameba algorithm at the micro level.

Garbage classification and screening

A part of the eggshell is cut off and the load-bearing experiment is carried out. Combined with the simulation experiment of the ameba algorithm for the shell load-bearing, it is found that the shapes of the eggshell fragmentation and the shapes of the shape change in the algorithm are all triangles.

The common garbage types in the world are listed in proportion. The larger the proportion is, the more the output of garbage is. In addition, the current garbage types are reclassified into six categories, including glass, plastic and other industrial synthetic garbage (defined as extremely difficult degradation classification). Then the kitchen waste is divided into six categories and I selected four of them to be tested and simulated.

The specific method is to mix the mushroom mycelium with hay, chaff and other agricultural wastes, pour them into the setting mould, waiting for a few days, and then the extremely solid, durable, light and environmentally friendly biodegradable brick could be obtained. This kind of bio brick is fire-resident, not easy to mildew, and it is a light, growing, renewable and degradable environmental protection new material. Biobrick construction In the fifth year Biobricks were put into use

The mycelium growth state is simulated by the mold algorithm to obtain the biobricks, which act as floor slab and wall here, so that the three separate buildings can be linked together to form a whole commercial space Good load-bearing and easy to disassemble, and the mycelium can continuously enhance the strength of biological bricks in the process of use

Most of the buildings around the base are mainly residential buildings, and there are few office buildings and commercial buildings. Moreover, the commercial buildings are mainly distributed along baoshan road, and the commercial buildings convenient for people are scattered. Moreover, they are unable to meet the living needs of the surrounding residents, especially the spiritual needs. According to the survey, the local commercial format is mainly retail, so the building is determined to be a mixed, up-to-date, open and free commercial atmosphere

When the biobrick is put into use for 60 years, the organic matter such as the inner grain can give the hyphae enough nutrition, the hyphae starts to decrease, and the rigidity starts to weaken With the gradual decrease of the inner mycelium, the firmness is too poor to be used. At this time, the shell begins to decompose and self-metabolize with the remaining mycelium

Housing mission

Change of mission

In its first year, the village of baoshan road in Shanghai was a chaotic and bustling corner of a rapidly growing city, surrounded by upscale residential complexes and bustling commercial centers. The housing here is old and low, office building is onefold and shabby, shop is messy and dispersedly, here low salary is ordinary people are engaged in ordinary job, everybody's demand is different each, having the confidence that lives up hard however. Our architecture, in this complex area, undertakes the mission of its small housing, providing different space needs for different groups of people. In this ordinary era and ordinary place, we give these ordinary people an extraordinary home that belongs to them. The mission is small but great.

In the 70th year, the village in the city experienced demolition and new construction, some of the buildings were already old, a small number of buildings were still being demolished, and some modern buildings had already appeared in this once old area. Our building, in the process of self metabolic space, great changes have taken place in the home partition disappears, the wall of the bearing and it is the problem, should have been in a building lost value, it is time for change of mission, the next 30 years will continue throughout his own metabolism and people to the intervention of the hyphae brick built to create a new mission.

Death of life

In the 100th year, the city has been saturated with modernization and surrounded by high-rise buildings. It is not like a village in the city in the past. This era ushered us another new building, combines the hyphae biological brick building consists of three independent individuals form a whole, has become the commercial center of it's full of vigor and vitality, completely open first floor space and ManYouShi business flow is a disguised form of remembrance of that era, hybrid and cater to the era of the distribution of the formats are welcome to this new era.

In the 200th year, self-metabolizing high-rise buildings began to appear in cities. What were once modern buildings had become old buildings. In the process of selfrenewal and metabolism, our building has formed a huge columnar skeleton structure, and the mycelium biobricks have also self-dissolved. It has become a typhoon shelter in the rapidly developing ultra-modern society, quietly and alone remembering the past life and stories of this area

In the 300th year, all the buildings in the city are able to self-renew and metabolize, and our buildings finally degrade down, leaving no trace and

Living Memory

The past vegetable market has not been satisfied with people's needs, the ----Market Renovation collective memory of the modern people to the vegetable market has gradually Location:Beijing Sanyuanli Market become the past. This design takes the time as the starting point, takes the "detention" as the theme, through the mold algorithm to the vegetable market Time:07-09.2020,Extracurricular different crowd route simulation, tries to create a new model vegetable market Type:Architecture Dsign | Individual maintains the vegetable market original attribute simultaneously causes the The evolution of markets people to stay in the vegetable market, creates more social opportunities.

Set up experimental group In order to study the dominant attraction of the vegetable market stores to the six kinds of people, all the shops in the vegetable market were randomly disrupted to form a vegetable market without zoning. At this time, the detention points of the six kinds of people changed, and the experimental group 1 was set up to provide a contrast sample for the next operation process.

Experimental group 1 In order to study the invisible attraction of the vegetable market stores to the six groups of people, according to the five factors identified (color, smell, professionalism, popularity, language), the stores with the same attributes in the vegetable market were grouped together. At this time, the detention points of the six groups of people changed, and experimental group 2 provided a contrast sample for the next operation process.

Analysis of influencing factors

Unit formation

According to the simulation process, the influence degree of different shops on different people is obtained, and the number of shops that affect the track of the crowd is taken as the standard to measure the appeal degree of the shop to the crowd. The resulting data were screened to remove the type of shop with very little impact, and a total of 10 types of related type of shop were obtained

The base units are combined with each other to form a first-level unit, and the first-level units are combined to form a second-level unit, and so on, in which the suitable units are selected to form the main body of the new vegetable market
