I Architecture as Negotiator An Alternate Solution Towards Forced Demolition ARC 307 Studio V Politics & Society | Professor Wu Work Fellow: Kaicheng Zhuang In 2017, due to the over whelming economic m o m e n t u m i n B e i j i n g , t h e c e n t r a l g o ve r n m e n t of C h i n a d e c i d e d t o re l o c a t e a l a rg e p ro p o r t i o n of enterprises to a new district in the center of Huabei triangle. This district is called Xiong'An. According to the Xiong'An plan, new industries will move in to replace the indiginous community. Which will bring economy growth, but at the same time, damage the future planning of villagers. This project seeks to find a solution, to balance the demand of villagers and city plan, at the same time, give villagers the choice to decide whether and how to join the new city system.

II House of Curtain 3rd Prize of Suburban Renewal Competition: A8 Chengdu A8 The design competition for the transformation of traditional residences in Linpan http://www.a8dc.com.cn/competition/62.html Work No: LP-B-003 Work Fellow: Kaicheng Zhuang
H o u s e of C u r t a i n i s a p ro j e c t d e s i g n f o r a s u b u r ba n re n e w a l c o m p e t i t i o n i n C h e n g d u . I t a i m s to p ro v i d e s a renewal prototype for the old traditional residential housing located on the site for new wetland conservation area. These houses will be put into used for light commercial and entertainment activities. Chengdu wetland has conser ved a traditional culture based on wetland, called "Linpan". "A house surronded by a woodland, and a woodland surronded by a farmland." This simple sentence summarized the most impor tant spatial quality of the Lipan. In this renovation project, the new structure is designed under the guidance of the action 【
盘 】 (to surrond). The new form mimics the original
rectangular spatial arrangement, it offsets and tries to surrond the old house, creating a new courtyard between them.
Linpan is a type of traditional Chinese house that has lasted for thousands of years. For thousands of years, Linpan keeps communicating with the environment, responding to it, and the surronding enviroment responds back. The rennovation project aim to strengthen the original design underpinning of Linpan th the utilization of the new material, I-mesh, and also through two actions: 'to hang' [ 悬 ] and 'to surrond' [ 盘 ].
【盘】
【悬】
Although the action of 'surrond' echos with the existing design logic of the Linpan, it might potentially block the communication between the old building and the surronding site. Thus, the second action [ 盘 ] (to surrond) is introduced.
The book room in the front and the reading rooms on the left side are hanged by beams and lifted from the ground. Inviting the surronding environment to weave into the house, introducing a new vertical communication between the nature and the renovated Linpan, where also reimagines a new space for reading.
III Forecasted Flooding Rising Sea Level as a design oppotunity towards Italian Shoreline Villages Study Abroad in Florence | Fall 2021 Work Fellow: Junye Zhong, Kaicheng Zhuang Located at Orbetello, a town that it is only a few meters higher than the water level and is surrounded by two lagoons on both sides, the global warming has caused many concerns on site. The rising sea level has threaten the local villagers' living areas, and has forced populations to evacurate. This project is a suburban renewal project that seeks to find a way to threat the rising sea level not as a restriction, but an advantage to engage with the water, and thus regarding t h e r i s i n g s e a l e v e l a s a d e s i g n o p p o r t u n i t y. T h ro u g h t h i s engagement, this project express the urgency of the global warming issue, remind people that when it reaches a certain tipping point, the changes will be irrever sible. And at the same time, attracts visitors and economy parties back to this area. The project is not about how to create a path that link the downtown area to the harbor and parks directly to create convenience and efficiency, instead it aims to activate the existing condition of the site and engage with it.

1. The study of Florence's typology is a way to approach our design of the museum complex in Orbetello. In Florence, loggia is a very crucial architectural concept which provide both circulation and public space for the city. When it is in linear form, either fold in a private house or stretch in the public space, it serves as a circulation; when it is in combination form, it serves as a public gathering space in a semi-exterior condition. 2. In Venice, water is the road for the traffic, many buildings were built facing the water.

The coexist of traffic, building and water in Venice have inspired our imagination for transforming the water in our site to a system that reinforces the circulation system and new installations.

The languages and the programs of the project are designed following the timeline from traditional to contemporary. People will enter and visit from the archeological exhibition of the Guzman to the public sport courts, then to the exhibition tower that is designed for recording the rising water level.
The tower exhibites the rising water level from the lagoon, The rainwater will be gathered as the water source to fill the water platform from top to bottom, to sarcastically mimic the sense that water level reaches the certain height. Becoming a reminder for people to be aware of this issue.
Then, people will continue to walk pass by the dam that controls the flooding tide in the inner ground reformation, to the exhibition of the original water airfield.
In the airfield exhibition, the original structure inspired us to bring back some of its old design element, such as the arch shape structure that hangs a water airplane for the new exhibition design. After this exhibition, people will end their tour at the restaurant under the water, then take a boat on top of the restaurant back to the archeological Guzman Museum.
IV Nomad Aggretopia Reconfiguring the Essence of Aggregation within Post Pendemic Era EVOLO 2021 Competition Work | Winter 2021 Work Fellow: Junye Zhong, Kaicheng Zhuang,Chenhao Luo The word ‘Aggregation’ has bonded with human society for Millions of years. Our ancestors gathered around bonfires, they learned to cooperate with each other in order to survive. Today, information and financial opportunities are the crucial the resource that everyone wants, people need to aggregate in a scale that is way larger than any time before, and that’s why skyscrapers are introduced into our society. However, during the recent global pandemic, people have to keep social distance from each other, most people are encouraged to work at home. Aggregation is forced to pause, leaving millions of skyscrapers vacant, and leading to economic stagnation. But people soon realized that similar efficiency can be achieved through remote communication. We star ted to question if this new living mode without aggregation is possible in this information age, because the reason for it seems no longer stands. This project seeks to think about a new megastructure form, which will be common under such near future background, and rethink the meaning of "Aggregation" for human beings.
V The Complete Map Of Capital Beijing Collective work of Archtecture Drawings About Redocumenting The Central Beijing Study Abroad in Beijing | Spring 2021 Work Fellow: 16 Syracuse Fellows in Drawing Architecture Studio The Complete Map of Capital Beijing is a contemporary copy of its original version from the Qing Dynasty, in which some most iconic Beijing architecture are collaged and mixed. In a 1:100 architectural diorama, the three-dimensional models are the results of some style transfer algorithms in which some classics of Western modern architecture are mixed with the language of Beijing vernacular constructions, growing from two-dimensional images. The creation process of this piece is a self-organized "game". Drawing Architecture Studio provides the framework of Capital Beijing and creative path. Each members participated in designing multiple blocks with residential, religious, and political buildings. All are assembled together into the final drawings. Drawings and models become independent "selves" and construct an "independent world" on the architectural diorama. From June 19 to September 7 2021, as a collaboration by DAS and Syracuse University School of Architecture in 2021, the installation The Complete Map Of Capital Beijing is presented in the exhibition To Be The Better One organized by Wind H Art Center and acquired by Wind H for its collection.
