// Redescubrir el Barrio de la Barceloneta
Description: La Barceloneta is one of the most emblematic and charismatic districts of Barcelona. In the district of Ciutat Vella, it has a very important historical legacy. Currently, there is a big problem with tourism. The longlife neighbors coexist with a daily massification of tourists. This situation becomes untenable. In this way, the need to dignify the neighbourhood is born, taking the most disadvantaged social group, the elderly, as protagonists. The proposal is: _ The circulation of the neighborhood is restructured. From the very structure of the neighbourhood, a typification of streets is carried out for the permeabilization of this. Creating streets with a single platform that give priority to pedestrians and pedestrian streets from which the decks will be accessed. _New public spaces on the building’s rooftops is made. The surface of public space is increased, superimposing uses at different levels. They will have different areas according to the needs and interests of the neighbors. In this way, community, integration and citizen participation will be strengthened. Location: Barcelona, Spain. Team: Arnau Tubert Year: 2015

// Superblock Barcelona Description: “The city is in danger. Pollution attacks again and SuperBlock comes to save Barcelona.”
The Supblock appears where it is most needed. The neighbourhood of La Eixample, it has one of the highest rate of pollution in Barcelona’s city. Therefore, the main intention of the project is to prioritize life, pedestrian and vegetation, over the current use of the car on the street. Different spaces designed to collect the needs of people. The street is redesigned and adapted. Now, the public space has wide, shady and pleasant spaces, full of vegetation. First, we had observed the neighbourhood and its people, how it lives and develops. How daily traffic works. People only walk on narrow sidewalks, as much of the street is ceded to asphalt. So we open the pavement giving space to nature, allowing it to develop and recover the cycles. Thanks to the synergies present in nature, biodiversity and its dynamic balance, we heal the city. The entire design process was articulated through citizen participation, collaborating in activities that the neighbours were already developing, occupying the street, claiming their rights over the public space. Location: Esquerra de l’Eixample, Barcelona, Spain. Team: Juanita Leal Ochoa + Begoña Castañón + Valentinne Gilbert Year: 2016

// Memorial l’Ultima Defensa a Barcelona Description: The project aims at remembering the heroic and abortive attempt of the army of the Second Spanish Republic to stop the fall of Barcelona before the advance of the Franco’s army and to pay tribute to those who were killed in the battle; and finally, denounce the horror of the wars. The chosen place is a gentle hill covered by a forest of Pinus halepensis, in a limit of the townships of Subirats and Olesa de Bonesvalls, where vestiges of the battle have been found and remains of trenches are still preserved. Through a first reading of the forest, there is a pronounced competition between existing pines that in search of water and sun have reached sinuous forms, appearing in themselves, the expression of combat. The perspectives are chosen where the way in which the trees grow is crossed. Knowing that they really are not, the interesting thing about the project is the point of view. This intention is established by placing seat areas in each of the action points, so that the visitor can perceive and be a participant in this «shock». To enhance and intensify the sense of struggle and conflict a series of steel bars with varying inclinations, are installed which intersect each other, simulating the movement of the trees themselves. Location: Sierra of Ries, Catalunya, Spain. Team: Miquel Vidal Pla + Gabriela Baca Soto Year: 2017

Strategic points are gradually revealed, through an itinerary and marked by the gabions. The visitor experiences it’s own journey and feelings.

// RE + CONECTANDO MOLLET Description: RE + CONNECT is an instrument to reorganize and to recover the peri-urban landscape with a functional and harmonious vision. The project area is located between two protected natural sites, one is Gallecs, dry agricultural land, and the other is the Parc de la Serralada de Marina. Between them, it crosses the Besós River, one of the most important rivers of Catalunya and it is very affected by the industrial pollution. Nowadays, people wish to access any natural space next to the city, they must cross high or medium fragility points. The high development of the area in decades, it has created limits progressively. There are spaces to which the city turns its back, preventing or hindering the connection physically and in turn, in a psychological way. They are the back, the dark side of the city, those places where only a small part of the citizenship go and the rest of them remove it from their memory, non-existent places. It is important to understanding the landscape of these places for beauty, ecology and healthy perspective, to connect with nature and to generate more green space in cities. We can create a new periurban sewing system. Allowing the trace of man’s action to transcend the natural space and transforming the hard limit into a permeable transition space. STRATEGY B - Prevention
Mechanical removal of Arundo donax and deep cleaning of soil rhizomes
Plantation of Mediterranean fruit trees and shrubs and hydroseeding of herbs, grasses and legumes.
STRATEGY c - Regeneration
Mechanical plowing of compacted and sandy soil. Once opened, add mountain microorganisms with seeds or an organic fertilizer with great amount of minerals.

// Flowing lives Description: Broken pieces of dramatic experiences, stop their lives from flowing. Running water as the most active landscape transforming agent on the earth’s surface. Landscape, not as an empty canvas, but as a picture full of elements. From the river flow, streams emerge and following topographic modifications, flood zones appear. Highlighting landscape values and the links between people. Flowing lives refugee camp’s principles are: _ Water for zoning _ Agricultural pattern for knitting _ Biodiversity to activate cycles _ Topographical modifications to protect _ Flooding areas to clean _ Natural barriers to embrace _ Water, sun, wind and green, to take advantage of _ Agriculture, recycling and composting to close cycles The refugee camp has evolved into a dynamic coexisting territory. In the future will open itself progressively becoming part of a memorial park of hope, a natural mirror which reflects strength Location: Mosul, Irak. Team: Juanita Leal Ochoa Year: 2018
“it’s an active territory, social and natural potentials are flowing ”
The process will flow. Starting with the arrival, in the temporary area, located in the southern zone, being the most accessible and best-communicated area, families will be recovered physically and psychologically; they will be placed in communities with basic services arranged under the existing general regulations. With time, they will flow into the social area, they will start to connect steams, they won’t be refugees anymore they will return to be the owners of their lives. They will flood this meeting points, with their previous experiences, with their cultural richness, with their valuable background. This are transitional areas, for learning, playing, working, constructing but mainly for rooting their future.

// Matching faces with places Description: The objective is revitalize affected neighborhoods of refugees in Amman, based on temporary interventions with a changeable scale of impact. Through active participation process, a sustainable management of the natural cycles is proposed. A network will be created among citizens, refugees, public / private institutions and local/international NGOs. Streets, public spaces and private buildings will be friendly; they will be walkable and useful. Spaces to play, cultivate, take care and enjoy with a natural and social network working in harmony. _Social. Seeks to generate events and circumstances of coexistence, creating supportive dynamics between citizens with a fragmented social structure; promoting a sense of identity, usefulness, and responsibility. _Environmental. Landscape elements become the main resource for action (sun, water, vegetation, air and soil). These support the community activities, facilitating access to self-sustenance. _Economic. Creation of new job opportunities and training is encouraged, empowering individual initiatives through small social actions, which together make up a network of changes at a spatial and social level. A replicable network is created; this will grow on an impact scale. Location: Mosul, Irak Team: Juanita Leal Ochoa Year: 2018

// Urban Laboratory
Description: From the demand for a dynamic place and analysis of the Arrecife’s urban environment we have seen the presence of a series of actors. There is a positive movement of changes in the typology and uses of urban space. Our proposal is a point of union between the dynamics that are intended to promote on the island culturally and conservation of environmental heritage. The dynamic character of the square is created from the urban function as the function of promoter of biodiversity within the city. The Urban Laboratory is a pretext to make a square as a research model on the integration of biodiversity systems in the cities, providing improvements in terms of public space and urban comfort. The urban area takes on more important dimension in this project, providing sustainable development tools to the city. It is an experimental space in terms of architectural aesthetics, of biodiversity in the city and the island, and of cultural and social movement. // Human Archetypes *** Selected Work from “Flowers in my mind , an artistic research project about humans and flora relationships.
Description: This artwork reflects on the personality archetypes of human beings. The universal and cultural images are inherited through generations, representing mechanisms by which the unconscious affects our way of thinking and acting. I have selected some of them. _Healer is healing and transformation, she understands the mysteries of the universe and also the darkness of the world to make it useful, at the risk of distractions and deceptions. _Lover seeks her other half or at least something to fill the void. Her virtue is passion, gratitude, appreciation and commitment. Her desire is to please others, at the risk of losing their own identity. _Queen as power and control, she creates the just order and a system in which everyone can enter, at the risk of oppressing, tyrannizing and cursing. _Warrior tries to satisfy our identity, values and limits, she is the fury, winning, strong and brave, with risk of domination.
