THE STORY BEHIND THOSE EYES
Urban development design for Al-baqa’a camp. Course title: Design Thesis Program statement: Presentation of a complete set of project drawings including threedimensional presentation and model building. Design goal: Graduation Project Represent self-objectives of the student and the results from the architecture study.
“ being a Palestinian is an experience, Touching, often troubling, but full of character and wit, the reflections of Being Palestinian offer a radically fresh look, especially at the new Palestinian generations, And the issues of identity, exile, and diaspora give acute sense to those refugees with very personal reflections “. After sixty-six years of exile, the camp is no longer made up of tents. the prolonged exceptional temporality of this site has paradoxically created the condition for its transformation: from a pure humanitarian space to an active semi-normal space. For its citizens, it has become an embodiment and an expression of their rights.
THE STORY BEHIND THOSE EYES AL-BAQAA CAMP LOCATION :
it’s located in the north of Amman, Jordan on the north-western border of Amman on the Amman-Irbid road, near the area of Sweileh
Area : 1,600,000 m2 Axis :

WHY THIS AREA ? Economic (employment) statue Housing
Most of the camp residents are below -Housing system in camp is (unit the poverty level. system), each unit area around 90m2 without outdoor space, most houses with the same arrangement (2 bedEducation rooms - one bathroom - kitchen and - Most students there go to (UNliving room or guest room), and high RWA) schools; UNRWA: United percentage of houses without a roof Nations Relief and Works Agency that they are able to use. (for Palestine refugees), who runs the schools, health clinics and overall -The camp include 8500 housing units. management of the camp. - Most of UNRWA’s members in Jordan are in al-Baqa refugee camp.
POPULATION DENSITY It’s the biggest camp in Jordan With a high population density. This statistics show the huge problem in it. The average number of family member in camp is seven and their is families with 10 and 15 member.
Streets
Streets there are narrow and unsuitable for pedestrians or cars, which make playing children in streets, cause additional problems.
THE STORY BEHIND THOSE EYES
Graduation project
The largest class in the camp.. Children and Youth This thesis includes a lot of pictures because it is the best way to describe the situations there. Pictures were taken by me while studying the area there.
Children do not spend much time in schools Due to the two-shift system in UNRWA schools.
-There is no public or open place for children to spend time playing . - Here are scenes for some toys people put them in the narrow street to children in the eid .
A large proportion of young people under the age of 16 work without completing their studies or without being rehabilitated for working life .
The number of family members is large and the age group of 6-16 is the largest
THE STORY BEHIND THOSE EYES Socio-cultural environment The social relationship between the population and the neighbors has been interlinked in the camp, a strong relationship, as in the case of the Palestinian camps. Everyone knows everyone under the
so-called “ Al-hara “, which reflects the relative cohesion of the social fabric between relatives and neighbors and their participation in each other Various details of everyday life.
The Development of the camp in 2006
The social fabric and the presence of children was not taken into account in that developent. The goal is to take advantage of the existing infrastructure and further integrate the sociocultural situation into a favorable

identity, as well as activate the area, by taking the movement, local behavior, programs, and event spaces into consideration.
THE STORY BEHIND THOSE EYES
Graduation project
The Development of the camp in 2006 A project was carried out to develop the camp through the expansion of one of its narrow streets to become the arterial street of the camp, which worked to connect the camp with the outside and make a good transport environment in it.
The important nodes the development reinforced: 1-Health center 2-UNRWA schools 3-Al-aoude Circle 4-Main commercial corridor 5-Empty landfill (proposed to by park for the camp 6-Landfill
THE STORY BEHIND THOSE EYES ADAPTIVE REUSE WHY ? - This place was a water tank for the camp before the water extensions for the units in the camp. - It is the center of the camp and a strategic location
Al-Aoude circle
The building elvations
The abandoned building zones
- It was subsequently reused for community activities But his old situation led to it is work being stopped and abandoned.

THE STORY BEHIND THOSE EYES The Story Narrative This project take the devoloped street as trajectory line to the story of this camp and enliven it with new interventions. The project will start from the heart of the camp and the middle of the new development that happened in 2006 (Al-aouda circle ) as an important nodes in the camp. Then continue through the arterial street to invigorate it with social engagement . To the end of the trajectory on the edge of the camp.
Graduation project The approach Rethink on urbanity the camp and engage it more directly with; public gatherings, walks, plays, events and urban actions, these interventions is the possibility to realize development projects in the camps.

MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT
Group work project
The group formed from four students, the most work done as teamwork especially in the first stages as the group discusses the ideas through sketches on one table, (site analysis, problem identification and concept generations and transformations.
My role in the prefinal and final stages was the planning and the elevations utilization, and organized the final poster presentation.
Trace of the existing physical and natural enviroments at the site
Course title: Architectural Design (7) Program statement: Design of a
building complex with multi-function to fit in a particular urban context. Design goal: Redefining the limits and relation between design and planning and between internal and external built or open spaces and land uses and zoning and between architecture and landscape.
MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT The site : The University of Jordan The project is proposed from the administration of the University of Jordan to develop and improve this spot from the campus, to achieve the investment objective for the university and its students.

GENERAL HOSPITAL PROJECT
The Concept
How to treat the person (his self) .. by building? The disease takes a patient’s sense of life so ; How to make the patient feel alive? ( Psychological aspect ) .. A person’s life is arranged in a regular and systematic grid, once a disease penetrates this system, distort it.
“When treat diseases you win or lost you treat person , I guarantee you win no matter the outcome” Patch adams
The use of curves, rather than a linear approach: - Views / Introverted orientation - Continuous and uninterrupted connection line
The main vertical and horizontal circulation access
The circulation of people make the main access ( external force ). The function and Spatial distribution of the hospital divide and split the main circle (internal force ). The circulation access go through all curved line.
Central geometric shape
Program statement: Applications
including urban infill and reuse of preserved heritage buildings. Functional, socio-economic and aesthetic issues. Improvement of the quality of life of users and the local population. An integrated framework of urban design. Design goal: To develop students’ ability to use different ways of design thinking confidently.architecture and landscape. To create many alternatives for solving the design problem through the concept.
How to regulate this distortion? The project theme is concentric

Linear grid for the vertical structures
The direction of the sun directs the building lines to take advantage of the natural light without the disturbing of the direct sunlight. Integrate green courts between the masses of the project to reach each department of the hospital.

The Context
Site Impressions - Wormth -Coziness - Naturalness - Wooden Work & Structure
The Content
The Function Studying the characteristics of the architecture study: - Different way of thinking - Wayfinding - Consciousness - Hidden meaning
The Goal is to let go of the form we are now and become whole again, when we make our responses and choices become our carving tools and we recarve ourselves again, but now with enough experiments and experience to do that.
Course title: Architectural Design (5) Program statement: is about designing in certain Architectural Complexities and that include spatial, structural, infrastructure, services and uses complexities. It is also designing in advanced environmental systems and variable users experiences. It deals with design behavior and psychology. Design goal: Developing new struc-

Architectural Design (5) Stairs (the circulation force) carved the block in a way that when someone is taking the stairs he will feel that his movement is actually making changes and carving the stairs into the block. With a diversity of open vs closed workspaces, practical vs theoretical types of teaching, regular vs irregular ways to go up or down, the project offers opposites of choices to the students that provokes their minds to critically think and choose, so that choices will form their knowledge and personality i.e. their block.
