Dear Sir or Madam: The Chiang Mai Ginastera International Music Festival and Competition (CGIMF) is an international music festival that was founded to help strengthen talented local musicians in terms of their ability to perform on a higher level in both competition and concert performances. Each year, the local musicians enter to compete internationally and perform with international guest artists. This year marks the 3rd annual festival to be held from 11th – 17th November 2018 at the Kad Theatre, Kad Suan Kaew in Chiang Mai. The forthcoming festival will feature a truly special highlight, namely a concert performed by the world-famous Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) from Shanghai – Chiang Mai’s sister city in China. As partner of the CGIMF, the SPO will perform on 13th November with Atsuko Seta, Artist Director and pianist, and a composition by Chaipruck Mekara, Festival Director, as well as play other well-known music pieces. On 17th November, SPO members and some other international musicians from different countries will perform jointly with the Chiang Mai Symphony Orchestra at a Gala Concert night. On behalf of the Executive Committee of the CGIMF, we would like to invite you sponsoring this unique cultural event in our city. An international music festival of highest quality will help to further elevate Chiang Mai as cultural hub of northern Thailand! We would indeed be honored and grateful for your contribution as proposed in our sponsorship packages (see attached), and look forward to a positive response. Sincerely Yours, Asisst. Prospectus Although the classical music scene in Chiang Mai is still developing, it is finding growing support among expatriate communities of countries around the world, as well as local Thai enthusiasts. New orchestras have emerged in recent years, and are showing extraordinary potential. However, the musicians rarely have the opportunity to participate in high-profile performances, and have not had the chance to develop the confidence to perform on the level of musicians in more musically influential countries, particularly in Europe. In the 20th century, the Argentinian composer Alberto Ginastera put South America on the map in the world of classical music, paving the way for many other South American musicians to follow in his footsteps. Today, these musicians continue to inspire audiences around the world. He is known to have told young students of music that “Your music must reach beyond the country of your origin. Do not confine yourself to boundaries.” Inspired by these words, we are determined to spread the unique artistic culture of the Asian provincial city of Chiang Mai to the world, going beyond national borders as well as boundaries of culture and religion. Furthermore, we plan to invite internationally acclaimed musicians to hold world-class performances, with the aim putting Chiang Mai on the world stage. In 2016, to mark the 100th birthday anniversary of Alberto Ginastera, we held the first Chiang Mai Ginastera International Music Festival. This year marks the 3rd annual festival to be held from 11th – 17th November 2018 at the Kad Theate, Kad Suan Kaew in Chiang Mai. The forthcoming festival will feature a truly special highlight, namely a concert performed by the world-famous Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) from Shanghai – Chiang Mai’s sister city in China. As partner of the CGIMF, the SPO will perform on 13th November with Atsuko Seta, our Artist Director and pianist, and a composition by Chaipruck Mekara, Festival Director, as well as play other well-known music pieces. On 17th November, SPO members and some other international musicians from different countries will perform jointly with our own Chiang Mai Symphony Orchestra at a Gala Concert night. We had almost 100 entries for the competition from all over the world, particularly from those from Asian countries. Young talented participants will compete again here in Chiang Mai this November. During the festival, contestants will perform their recitals with various instruments. This includes the piano, violin, wind-instruments, and vocals at the Baan Roichan Hall in the Lotus Hotel. The Lotus Hotel has a charming Lanna-style room equipped with a Fazioli grand piano. In the Gala Concert held on the final day, we will feature the 2017 Gold Medal award winner’s performance with the CPO. If you participated or enjoyed our event from previous years, you may already know that we’ve also invited judges from different parts of the world who are all extremely enthusiastic performers and passionate music educators. 4
At the international competition, musicians compete not over technical skill, but for their ability to inspire audiences to want to watch them perform again. We have made it our mission to discover such new talent, specifically young musicians from Southeast Asia, and support them on their path to reaching the world stage. Words can hardly describe the charms of Chiang Mai—its natural beauty, the kindness of its people, and the joys of interacting with elephants and other magnificent animals have captivated the hearts of many. We will continue our aspiration to hold awe-inspiring events for visitors, local residents, and the participants of the music festival, and use this opportunity to show the world the charms of this truly wonderful city. CHIANG MAI GINASTERA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL
1
The Chiangmai Youth Philharmonic Band and Symphony Orchestra Foundation (CPO) was found in 2007. Its members are drawn from different institutions around Chiangmai as well as freelance and friends. We have been performing 3-4 concerts every season. To continue to enhance the classical music scene in Chiangmai, this year we are hosting mark as the 2nd Chiangmai Ginastera International Music Festival and Competition 2017. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you to all of guest artists that perform and judge in this festival as well as all of the competitors who practice and share the love of music with everyone here in Chiangmai and around the globe. I now would like to welcome all of the participants and I wish all the best and success to the Chiangmai Ginastera International Music Festival and Competition 2017. Sincerely, Chaipruck Mekara
This year, the Chiangmai Ginastera International Music Festival, which started in Chiang Mai last year, is holding its second event thanks to your support. Last year’s prize winner’s concert collaborated with local musicians in Chiang Mai, and was a huge success. This year, we have more than 80 participants from all over the world, steadily achieving distinction as an international competition. As the artistic director, I hope that the young, talented musicians of Southeast Asia will transcend many boundaries and soar through the world, eventually contributing to world peace through music.

Do not confine yourself to boundaries. Inspired by these words, we are determined to spread the unique artistic culture of the Asian provincial city of Chiang Mai to the world, going beyond national borders as well as boundaries of culture and religion. Furthermore, we plan to invite internationally acclaimed musicians to hold world-class performances, with the aim putting Chiang Mai on the world stage. In 2016, to mark the 100th birthday anniversary of Alberto Ginastera, we will hold the first Chiang Mai Ginastera International Music Festival. At the international competition, musicians will be competing not over technical skill, but for their ability to inspire audiences to want to watch them perform again.
