Innovar con sentido social: Reto LATAM Innovate with social concern: the LATAM Challenge

El World Trade Center se reinventa y avanza a un modelo más regionalizado, con proyectos de cooperación regional que traerán mayores beneficios al comercio entre los WTCs de América Latina.

Es una prioridad estratégica de la World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) fortalecer a las regiones, con la idea de priorizar más eficientemente las iniciativas locales, lo que tendrá como resultado una marca uniforme y una red mucho más interconectada. En este contexto, presentamos algunas voces del liderazgo WTC en la región.

The World Trade Center reinvents itself and goes forward toward a more regionalized model, with regional cooperation projects that will bring more benefits to the trade among the WTCs in Latin America.

It is a strategic priority of the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) to reinforce the regions, with the idea of giving priority to the local initiatives; this will result in a uniform trademark and a more interconnected network. In this context, we are going to present some voices from the WTC leadership in the region.

Una tarea que se mantendrá durante todo el 2020, para ello contaremos con la mayor disposición de los recursos de las oficinas regionales, un esfuerzo de gran importancia porque acerca a la organización a sus miembros y eso es fundamental.

“Cada WTC tendrá mayores recursos para acercarse a sus comunidades de negocio, lo que dará aún más vigor a la red y a la marca en sus respectivas regiones. Es una buena noticia que recibimos en América Latina, una región con una red de apoyo ejemplar dentro de la organización”, puntualizó Ronderos.

aseguró que hoy, bajo el liderazgo de empresarios, la integración del Estado, así como la participación de jóvenes que están innovando, están convirtiendo ese puerto y punto fronterizo en una ventana de nuevos negocios, que demuestra con hechos que cuando se quiere se puede, trabajando sociedad y gobierno de la mano.

Carlos Ronderos, WTCA Latin American Coordinator assured that the association has been evolving in such a way that it can get closer to the different World Trade Centers Associated and that such policy has strengthen the regions, taking the services of the organization even closer to the different actors that have formed this community.

It is a task that will be kept during all 2020; for this we will have the greatest disposition of the resources of the regional offices. It is an effort of great importance, because it makes the organization be closer to the members, and it is fundamental.

Jorge Acevedo Alarid, president of WTC Guanajato and Nuevo Laredo, stated that under the entrepreneurs leadership, the integration of the State, and also the participation of young people who are innovating, they are making that dock and borderline spot become a window for new businesses, which proves with acts that when something is wanted, it can be achieved through society and government working together, hand in hand.

A juicio de Alarid, hablar de la WTCA después de estos 50 años, es hablar de la reinvención, de aprender del pasado para construir un presente que permita hacer posible un gran futuro, por lo que exhortó a los empresarios y emprendedores de Latinoamérica a estar alertas, a servirse de las diversas plataformas tecnológicas para desarrollar sus modelos de negocio y respaldarse en el ecosistema WTC para apalancar sus ideas.

Sobre el impacto de las nuevas organizaciones, el emprendimiento y la gestión de pequeñas y medianas empresas, Eugenio Reyes, director general del WTC Monterrey en México aseguró que “estamos viendo tiempos aciagos en todo el mundo y quienes tienen “la sartén por el mango” para hacer cambios significativos en el futuro son las pymes. The WTC Guanajato, located in the middle of the country, is looking for to participate in a more active way in the innovation and development of the technological centers, the educational centers, and of all those consolidated communities such as the mechanical, the automotive, the metalworking, and the leather and shoemaking industries; in order to activate other activities such as the agri-food industry. This will be, no doubt, an organization that will mark a before and after in the trade ways. On the impact of the new organizations, the entrepreneurship, and the management of the small and middle sized enterprises (SME), Eugenio Reyes, general director of the WTC Monterrey in Mexico stated that “We are facing hard times all around the world, and the ones who have “the upper hand” for making meaningful changes in the future are the SMEs. These organizational models are the ones that hire 70 % of the employees, and pay 55 % of all taxes”.

Reyes pointed out that the SMEs must be aware that they should work in a strict adherence to the justice, respecting the customers and the suppliers in such a way that a virtuous circle is generated in the society where they operate, being the causal for a social and economic support.

According to Alarid, talking about the WTCA after these 50 years, means talking about reinvention, learning from the past to build a present that allows to make a great future possible. Henceforth, he encouraged the businesspeople and entrepreneurs in Latin America to be in alert, to get advantage of the different technological platforms for developing their business models and to be supported by the WTC ecosystem to level up their ideas.

Reyes indica que las pymes deberían estar cons- cientes que deben trabajar estrictamente apegados a la justicia, respetando a clientes y proveedores de manera tal que se geste un círculo virtuoso en la so- ciedad donde operen, siendo causantes del sostén económico social.

Por su parte, Guillermo Acevedo, director general del WTC Cali y Medellín, plantea que la innovación en Latinoamérica, además de disruptiva, debe tener siempre como prioridad un sentido social para que verdaderamente genere valor. “Para que esto suceda, se hace necesario desarrollar una política pública en cada nación, que integre la visión del sector privado y la academia junto con la visión del gobierno que debe anteponer la responsabilidad social como eje trans- versal”, propone.

On his behalf, Guillermo Acevedo, general direc- tor of the WTC Cali and Medellín, stated that the innovation in Latin America, besides being disrup- tive, must always have a social sense as a priority, so it will truly generate value. “For this to happen, it is necessary to develop a public policy in each nation, which integrates the vision of the private sector and the academy, together with the govern- ment’s vision which must give precedence to the social responsibility as its cross axis”, he proposed.

“It is evident that the technology has arisen as a vital ingredient to accelerate the development of innovative formulas which will be reflected in the quality of living in the community and the trans- parency in the management. This environment is opening a new path in which the virtues of the knowledge society are completely manifested”, he asserted.

The growing middle class in Latin America, with a considerable young component and its subse- quent generational replacement, will bring enormous possibilities for progress; they, once lined up in the global streams, will take us to a new scenario based on the entrepreneurship. Could Latin America become a power in services in the global village through an innovative, disruptive, and technologically based development? The an- swer is, literally, in our hands.

La creciente clase media en Latinoamérica, con un importante componente juvenil y su subsecuente relevo generacional, traerá enormes posibilidades de progreso que, una vez encausadas en las corrientes globales, nos llevarán a un nuevo escenario basado en el emprendimiento. ¿Podrá Latinoamérica convertirse en una potencia en servicios en la aldea global a través de un desarrollo innovador disruptivo y de base tecnológica? La respuesta está, literalmente, en nuestras manos.

Al cierre, Ignacio Del, gerente general de WTC Montevideo Free Zone envió un mensaje a todos aquellos que hacen crecer la comunidad de negocios del WTCA y que siguen con entusiasmo y buena actitud, pensando y gestionando negocios que permiten generar una comunidad cada vez más pujante.

Especialmente, enfocó su mensaje a los emprendedores. “Esas personas que están con algún proyecto, con alguna idea que están desarrollando. Esto requiere de mucha energía, mucho optimismo, pero sobre todo del trabajo incansable, donde habrá momentos de celebración, pero también de momentos apretados, de mirarse a los ojos y de actuar de manera consistente durante mucho tiempo.

A ustedes van los buenos deseos de la WTCA, para que continúen en este camino tan importante que trae muchas veces buenos resultados económicos, pero sobre todo el aprendizaje y la generación de unas cultura y un músculo emprendedor que puede ser aplicable en cualquier empresa en cualquier tiempo.

For closing, Ignacio Del, general Manager of WTC Montevideo Free Zone sent a message to all those who make the business community of the WTCA grow, and who eagerly and with a good attitude keep on thinking and managing businesses which allow to generate a more and more thriving community.

He, especially, focused his message to the entrepreneurs. “Those people who are involved in some project or developing an idea. This demands a lot of energy, a lot of optimism, but above all a tireless work. There will be moments to celebrate, but also hard times, to look into each other’s eyes and perform consistently for a long time.

For all of you are addressed the good wishes from the WTCA; for you to continue in this so important path that many times will bring good economic results, but especially all the learning, the creation of a culture, and an entrepreneurship muscle which can be applied to any enterprise, at any time.
