introduction

Trame Sonore 2015

T

rame Sonore 2015 has all the sound and flavour of a wager that has been won, a dream that has come true and well-placed confidence. The third anniversary of this ambitious cultural project seems to confirm that time has not indented its relevance to the present, the prestigious combination of art and music at the highest levels and I would say the curious and excited wait for a successful premiere that is always renewed.

I

t is a strong and innovative project because it comes from the union of two equally strong Mantua elements: the Museum of Palazzo Ducale, a museum of national importance, which for the occasion opens its noble spaces to music following a maze-like and intriguing itinerary, and the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, recognized internationally for its excellence. The earth of Mantua was still trembling when Maestro Carlo Fabiano, Artistic Director of the Chamber Orchestra and I had the good idea of joining forces in this feat which from the very beginning appeared titanic and challenging to accomplish, except with external support: a musical programme of excellence with the presence of international names drawn by the fame of the Mantua Orchestra, by the friendships built up over the years by the Maestro Fabiano but also by the beauty of the venues were a guarantee. This combination of excellences had to overcome every practical obstacle: beauty in all its forms always conquers. In the introduction to the first Trame Sonore Festival in 2013, I said that such a project could have attracted the attention it deserved and I concluded, “we will succeed”; today we can confidently say, “we have succeeded.” Giovanna Paolozzi Strozzi Director of the Regional Museum Pole of Piedmont Trame Sonore a Palazzo

INTRODUCTION

Trame Sonore 2015

C

onstructing the third edition of Trame Sonore a Palazzo has once again been a galvanizing workshop for all of us. Mantua is a city with a long history and age-old cultural, including musical, splendours and in its mansions, in the architecture, in its urban landscape, we have breathed in the perfume of that intellectual excellence which has made it famous all over the world and is still capable today of transmitting energy and inspiration, allowing us to perceive the privilege of being able to make music there very strongly.

P

alazzo Ducale, the very heart of the Festival, is a perfect venue, thanks to its spectacular rooms with splendid acoustics. The Basilica of Santa Barbara, the Rotonda di San Lorenzo and the Teatro Bibiena are very musical places, which enrich the appeal of the route.

T

he Festival also comes from a basic need: to allow the world of music to question itself on the consequences of the profound changes in society, in the face of which operating with new criteria becomes necessary. It therefore gives everyone, both to the many guest artists and to the public, the occasion to approach the experiences of artistic performance – on the one hand – and listening – on the other – in particular and innovative ways. This way at the Festival it is possible to trigger off unexpected dynamics marked by the universality of the language of music which opens the doors to listeners of every nationality, admirably serving this new full immersion in beauty and allowing the city to be experienced with eyes and ears that are different from usual.

M

antua is the starting point for a peaceful battle to assert the marvels of music, the primacy of culture, confidence in an attentive, curious and conscious tourism and the need to dream of a world nurtured by the best of human creativity, both past and present.

O

ur sincere and grateful thanks go to everyone who is helping us to achieve this.
