Changes to the Nautical Institute Dynamic Positioning Operator Certificate Scheme The Nautical Institute has implemented changes to its Dynamic Positioning Operator (DPO) certificate scheme. These changes address the minimum qualification for entry into the DPO certificate scheme and the maximum seatime prior to the basic/induction course which can be counted towards that required for the certificate. Further details of these may be found in the attached documents. Members should also be aware that the Institute has changed the format of the DPO certificates, both issued to the DPO and within the logbook. These new certificates also include a hologram on the left-hand side of the certificate.

1st February 2011 DP TIME PRIOR TO BASIC COURSE PROPOSAL Having considered all the feedback, it is our intention to amend the original proposal. The new policy will be to accept a maximum of 30 days DP time gained prior to attending the Basic / Induction course toward the award of a DP certificate. The rationale for this is that, 30 days allows employers to continue the practice of evaluating prospective DPO’s prior to attending an Induction course. The implementation date for this proposal will be 1st January 2012
