The Art of Compromise By Maureen Whelan
Be careful what tools you use with your children, as one day they just might learn them well enough to use against you. I attended a conference some time ago, and the topic of compromise arose. At the time, I did not anticipate what an effective tool this could be with some of my more difficult students, and even less prepared on how much would use this as a parenting tool with my own children. I should preface this by saying that compromise isn’t always appropriate, specifically when it is regarding safety, or fundamental values. It’s never “OK” to give personal information to a stranger, never “OK” to drive with someone who has used drugs or alcohol, it’s never “OK” to inflict emotional pain on others. But as parents we need to teach our children about all the grey areas in our world and that happiness exists even in a sea of grey. This plan was working fine until my kids wanted to get a dog. We’ve had a dog. I loved our dog. But after 5 years of living in a hair-free house and poo-free yard, I was happy being a non-dog owner. My gut instinct was to abandon my parenting tools, draw a hard line, and simply tell my kids “NO”. But my youngest was working on sleeping in her own bed, when discussing a motivator, she reminded me her cousin got a dog when he slept in his own bed for a month straight. When I agreed to consider dog, I wasn’t prepared to have my oldest daughter up the ante by saying she would make her bed every day, to show they would take care of a dog. Things just got real. So, at dinner one evening, I began laying out the terms. The dog must be a no-shed breed and not too large. I had 5 smiling faces (one being my husband’s) all nod at me. I tell them that the dog must be trained to go in one small section of the yard. Again, they all agree, and I start to sweat a little. I had a couple of months to wait this out, until my girls held up their end of the bargain. About 45 days into this I find myself thinking of ways to sabotage their success. “If I wake my daughter up late for school. She won’t have time to make her bed… or what about a scary bedtime story for my youngest?” But I had to push those thoughts aside when I saw how much effort everyone was putting into this family project. My kids were agreeing for Pete’s sake, and that alone is a rarity. So, the last week of April I found myself driving to Lumberton, to visit a rescue puppy staying at a foster home. I remind my girls that everyone needs to agree that this was the right dog, praying that my 12-year-old who was the least enthusiastic would hold-out for me. I plant seeds of doubt that the first dog we see may not be the right one, and promise to keep looking. And I say a prayer I have the strength to see this through. As luck would have it, my kids fall in love with the puppy, who is a shepherd mix. She will be big, and shed, I sigh as I think aloud. I hesitantly agree to discuss it on the way home. In the car on the way home, the kids excitedly talk about names, who will feed, walk, and bathe the dog. Again, they are all agreeing. Fast forward a few months, Roxy has been with us since the first week of May. She is crate trained and has her own little corner of the yard to do her business. The yard is being cleaned daily and she has had a bathe every week. You no longer trip over a mountain of shoes when you walk in my house. She responds to a few commands and leash training is in progress. She is so many things that I didn’t want, yet I’m happy she is with us. My kids are learning to work together, and they are all helping care for her. I’m able to get out at night more frequently for walks as she is a great excuse. Bottom line, we all got something we wanted, and we are all happy!

How Do You Know You Have a Sleep Problem? If a lack of sleep is starting to affect your concentration, memory or mood, you may have a sleeping problem. Chances are that it is just a case of nerves, or an inability to deal with life’s stress. Most sleep problems are related to other conditions or situations. So, do not look for traditional medical prescription like sleeping pills to solve the problem. Sleeping cycles, also linked to night/day cycles (circadian rhythms), are known to influence YOUR brain chemistry. One substance in particular, melatonin, is a naturally occurring hormone that is secreted during the dark phase of the 24-hour cycle. Taken orally, this substance has been shown to influence sleep patterns and reduce the symptoms related to insomnia.
Chiropractic Can Improve Your Sleep
If you do not want to have to take pills to improve your sleep, make an appointment here to talk about your problems. In a recent study of 221 chiropractic patients, one third of the subjects who completed the required interview reported immediate effects on their sleep after a chiropractic adjustment. From this group of responders, a whopping 98% recorded improved results with chiropractic versus those whose sleep patterns did not get better. Pain, both acute and chronic, is another primary reason why people experience disturbed sleep. Whether it’s back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, or headaches, chiropractic treatments have a long history of being able to help. The vast majority of my patients notice more restful sound sleep after their adjustments. Why suffer from sleepless nights? Call now for a complimentary consultation.

“At Wave’s End” by Patricia Perry Donovan A book review by Brian Favretto
Last summer, I reviewed Patricia Perry Donovan’s first fictional novel, “Deliver Her”, for this magazine. I enjoyed the book very much, so when our local author invited me to read her second novel, “At Wave’s End”, I jumped at the chance, and I wasn’t disappointed. Faith Sterling is a well respected chef in an upscale New York City restaurant. She is a bit egotistical and self-centered, possibly as a result of the scars that came from a broken childhood. The only family in her life is her mother Connie who lives in Arizona. I believe Faith enjoys the long distance part of the relationship; she seems tired of constantly having to bail her mother out of one trouble after another. Failed relationships, failed careers, failed getrich-quick scams and failed attempts at being a nurturing part of Faith’s life has left Faith jaded in their relationship, content with a phone call once or twice a month. Naturally, when Connie informs Faith of her newest plan for riches, she is both skeptical and pessimistic. With exuberance, Connie tells Faith about her essay entry in a contest where the winner gains ownership of a bed and breakfast at the Jersey Shore. When Connie gets word that she has won, Faith’s skepticism turns to disbelief, and she insists on traveling to New Jersey with Connie, hoping to protect her mother from falling for yet another scam. When they arrive at small shore town of Wave’s End and navigate their way to The Mermaid’s Purse (Connie’s grand prize), Faith immediately sees that her mother was duped. Nothing like the contest photos, the inn is rundown and unappealing to tourists. It’s farther from the ocean than Connie was led to believe, and it looks like it hasn’t seen may recent guests at all. However, Connie steadies her resolve, and is determined to leave behind her steady job in order to make this a successful, life- changing venture. Barely back in New York City, a major hurricane is racing north, threatening the entire east coast, and Faith finds herself returning to The Mermaid’s Purse in an effort to save her mother once and for all. Hurricane Nadine (the fictional version of Superstorm Sandy) devastates the region, especially the Jersey Shore, but The Mermaid’s Purse survives the storm with just a few scratches. What transpires
through the rest of the story is something all of us who experienced Sandy at the Jersey Shore can relate to. The town of Wave’s End becomes a story of resiliency, people pouring out compassion to help strangers in need. The Mermaid’s Purse becomes an emergency housing facility for displaced residents, shining like a lighthouse beacon in the midst of a storm of confusion. Faith stays in order to help her mother run the inn, and in a beautiful way, we get to watch this rundown bed and breakfast become a port in the storm, a safe haven, not only for the guests, but for Faith and Connie as well. It becomes a small community within a larger one, both of which experience their share of joy and heartache. When we learn some secrets about Faith’s childhood and see the permanent scars that domestic violence leaves, we realize she has done well with the hand she was dealt. She provides us the opportunity to see how easily we misjudge people and their intentions. In the confusion and uncertainty that the storm created, we get to watch Faith’s progression as she transforms from a business woman that never took the time to learn anything about even her most revered clients, into a caring and nurturing problem solver. Most importantly, Faith has recognized and embraced her calling to serve, and through her, Patricia Perry Donovan shows us how we can all find a way to serve one another, as so many do, not just in the face of tragedy, but also behind the scenes in our everyday lives. Donovan has done a wonderful job in this novel creating relatable characters like Bruce the town crier, and Gage, the self-pitied teenager. At one point in the story, I liked that she used Faith’s insomnia as a means to let her mind roll, and fill us in on her innermost thoughts on some of the surprising and unnerving subplots that were playing out. “At Wave’s End” is a wonderful book, filled with love, excitement, suspense, doubt and suspicion. It would be a great way to finish your summer reading, as it goes on sale August 15th. As a bonus for us locals, Patricia Perry Donovan will be launching the novel at BookTowne in Manasquan on August 31st at 6pm. What better way to support a local author and merchant at the same time? Visit www.patriciaperrydonovan.com for updates and further info. “At Wave’s End”, 2017, Lake Union Publishing. I was provided an advance copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Curing Type 1 Diabetes by Allison Feehan, N.D., D.Psc, CRMT
to cook, being creative, and feeling so grateful and proud that I am providing healthy food for my family. For us, going organic goes beyond our food. We have traded all our skin care, body care, and shampoos for cleaner, safer products. The skin is your biggest organ and absorbs what you put on it very quickly into the bloodstream. The FDA has not changed regulations for products since 1938. You would be amazed at all the harmful chemicals that are put in shampoos and skin care products. So...I researched again and came across Beautycounter. What a difference this has made for us.
At Integrative Healing and Wellness we see infants to children and adults to the elderly, each with their own set of challenges and triumphs. Our clients inspire us and this month we are honored to share Jennifer Hilling’s story about her journey to cure her son Fin of Type 1 Diabetes. “Mommy, I love you so much”. This phrase is something that I would suspect every mom loves to hear from her child. When paired together with a stream of uncontrollable tears, mushiness and no reason behind it, (oh and did I mention this happens everyday, most of the day, for the last 2 weeks), it becomes a tad concerning. These signs, accompanied by an unquenchable thirst and a constant urge to pee, well, I knew something wasn’t right with my ever so healthy 7 year old son. After the Dr told us that it’s a virus and needs to run it’s course and these symptoms not stopping, I asked my husband to pick me up a blood sugar monitor. Trust your gut! I was right. My son’s blood sugar was upwards of 600 and his ketones were large. Press the panic button please! We called the Dr. and were advised to get him to the emergency room immediately. Within a couple hours, he was snuggled in the hospital bed, IV attached, wires all around his little body and a chart that confirmed, TYPE 1 DIABETES!!!! Release the tears!
Four...we try to keep the carbs Low Glycemic, no simple carbs or sugar. Low Glycemic carbs take longer to be absorbed into the system, keeping blood sugar levels more stable. There is no “spike”, which is harmful to anyone. A few examples of Low Glycemic foods are avocados, blueberries, peaches, lettuce greens, broccoli, nuts, and apples. The foods we avoid because they are high glycemic are pastas, breads, pancakes, banana, and raisins. There is plenty of information out there on the Glycemic Index. Keep in mind, my son is 7, so we are not perfect with this, but do the best we can. Five...essential oils. Cinnamon oil has been known to stimulate the pancreas and the beta cells, which is super important for T1. It has also been known to stabilize blood sugar. It is very strong, so use caution. We use 1 drop of pure therapeutic grade oil with about a teaspoon of coconut oil, rubbed together and rubbed on both his feet every night. Then every morning, he gets one drop of lemongrass on one foot and one drop of geranium on the other foot. Lemongrass reduces inflammation and supports the immune system. Research has shown that it can help restore proper operation of your organs. Geranium has been shown to lower blood sugar levels and regenerate cells. Plus the essential oils smell good and are great for brightening your mood.
So here we are, just approaching our three-month mark, and my son has been without insulin for over one month now. WHAT?! You read that right. The first month, every second of the day, I spent on the computer researching; reading articles, dissecting others experiences and came up with a plan. It is an ever-changing plan of course, but we stick to a few steady components that have really seemed to help him. So now we are at the point where my son has one insulin shot in the morning and no others throughout the day. The one shot is considered his basal insulin; it’s a very small dose of long lasting insulin. We test his sugar throughout the day, mostly before and after meals. For us, as long as we keep his blood sugar steady and within “normal” range, we do not give him insulin with his meals. We have been thrilled with the results. Below is in no way for everyone or given to us by a Dr. this is simply our story.
Six...meditation. We try as much as we can to meditate as a family, but even when time does not permit, Fin meditates on his own every night. Meditation is wonderful for clearing and calming the mind, learning to focus on the now, and gives you a chance to recite affirmations. So for Fin, reciting what he is grateful for plus “I am healthy’ over and over again as he drifts off to sleep, not only makes him feel better, but is continuing his belief that he will beat this. Your body tends to do what your mind believes.
One...we went gluten free. Yes, everyone is doing it nowadays, but after trial and error, I have found that gluten tends to spike his blood sugar up regardless of carb count. So for us, it has proven beneficial. If you are new to the whole gluten thing, here is a quick definition for you. Gluten is a protein that is mostly found in wheat, barley, rye, oat and hybrids of these products. It is known to cause inflammation in the body.
We have been very fortunate in our journey because Fin has complete faith in me and his ability to heal. He has willingly given up so many of the foods he used to love because he knows they will not heal him. Don’t get me wrong, he is 7, so we have our challenge days for sure, but he has come to realize that when he decides to “splurge” and eat a treat, he doesn’t feel good. So we have been lucky that he doesn’t ask to splurge often.
Two...we went organic. From vegetables to fruits, to protein, to nuts, to the ingredients I use for baking, everything is organic. Everything you eat has an effect on your body, so I figure, feed it the best, or at least the best we can. Organic can be a bit pricey, but besides being worth it, there are always ways around it. We have stopped eating out as much, which I can now use that money for organic food for me to cook. We have stopped buying processed boxed foods and goodies, so that’s more money saved. I have also discovered a program with organic farms where you can buy shares of their farm for the season. I love this idea. You are supporting a local farm and getting fresh organic food to boot. A win win, don’t you think. Plus I have found that the food tastes better now that I am learning Check us out online at Facebook.com/ManasquanLife
Owner of Integrative Healing and Wellness 732.202.6797 523 Main Avenue Bay Head, NJ
Three...I have added a ton more vegetables, fruit, and seeds into our diet. We do our best to eat 80/20, 80% alkaline food and only 20% acidic food. It seems to be a very doable and a healthy way of eating for us. You would be surprised at how much fun we are having. I even added vegetables to cheesecake and he devoured it.
T1 runs ramped in my family, so some might say, I should’ve expected this, but my boy, in 7 years, has been sick twice in his life. He is the most unique, inspirational, full of energy kid I know. How could he possibly have diabetes? I smothered him with hugs and kisses and assured him we will beat this. As he drifted off to sleep I gave myself permission to “lose it’. I cried, I was furious, confused, of course asked why us. But then I realized, if not us, then who? We were equipped to handle this. We will beat this “incurable” disease...together. After leaving the hospital, feeling completely overwhelmed, as I am certain most parents do in this situation, we all made a choice. A very important choice and have not looked back or lost focus since. We will beat this! We will stay positive! So my son, Finneous, decided to create his own motivational sign that he could look at everyday and know that he can do this.

Summer Bordem Busters by Lauren Kehoe
It’s summertime! While the warm weather can be refreshing after a long winter, sometimes it reaches a point where it is just too hot. This point may be hit by your four legged friends before you do. Older dogs, active and athletic dogs, dogs with breathing issues such as pugs, and dogs with thicker coats are often more sensitive to the heat. Long walks may be out of the question, leaving your dog with more energy mentally and physically. All this excess energy has to be burned up somehow. Too much pent up energy can lead to boredom and destruction. Luckily there are indoor activities that can wear your pup out as much as a jog around the block. It may require some creativity, but switching up the routine can help keep things interesting. Not to mention keeping you both cool!
Sassy’s Story
Sassy and her pal Rocky were adopted from us in January of 2016 and recently returned. Now 2 years old, they adore each other and are a bonded pair. We are not exactly sure what happened in the home but Rocky went from an outgoing boy to a very scared kitty. We are working on bringing him out of his shell again and potential adopters need to have compassion, time and patience. Rocky does love to be pet in his cage and Sassy is very sweet just a tad shy. We are looking for cat experienced owners for these two.
Lauren Kehoe is an avid animal lover and dog owner.
There’s no denying walks, jogs, and running around the yard are great activities for dogs. So what are some equally interesting indoor enrichment equivalents? Most dogs have indoor ropes, bones, stuffed animals, balls, and squeaker toys. Try clearing some furniture and playing a rousing game of fetch. There are lots of different types of bones to keep dogs occupied as well. If you and your dog are feeling extra ambitious, try setting up an indoor obstacle course and using favorite treats or high value food items to lure them under, over, and through.

A short training session can be comparable to a long walk. Mental stimulus requires your dog to focus more and use its brain. Lots of dogs thrive with a purpose, especially those originally bred for herding, hunting, and other types of work. Being stuck with nothing to do can leave a dog bouncing off the walls. Present a project and the dogs’ focus and attention is suddenly directed to something to solve. I know if I’m idle for too long, my brain gets bored and decides to stir up trouble. Dogs are the same way. It’s all about channeling energy into production. Start out with simple commands such as sit, down, stay, and come. Some dogs graduate over time and can go to their bed, shake, bow, play dead, etc. It may not seem like much but all that focus is tiring. All dogs have different levels, so adjust as necessary.
Denny’s Story
This dog is part of our shelter outreach program where we take dogs from overcrowded shelters in hopes of finding them a forever home here! We generally do not have much background info on them and cannot guarantee they are housebroken. They are all up to date on vaccines, spayed/neutered and microchipped.
Denny is all puppy! He is a lab/pit mix, 6 months old and full of energy. Potential adopters should be very active and have the time and patience to properly raise and train a puppy. We highly recommend obedience classes to teach him basis manners and how to be a good canine citizen. Denny is super sweet and will do well in any home that can give him the attention he needs.
Bella’s Story
Bella is a 7 year old Puggle purchased as a puppy from the local pet store. She lived with the same family for all her life and sadly there were some big changes that left her here with us. Divorce, a move, and no one to take poor Bella. Its a very sad story we hear too often and the poor pets are the victims. Bella was extremely scared when she first got here and acted out to our staff because she did not know us. There was only one person here that she would allow to get near her and we were unsure if she was even going to be able to be adopted. After a couple weeks, she warmed up to most of our staff and we can take her out for walks and pet her. Even someoof our experienced volunteers have gotten to know her. When her personality comes out, she is a happy, funny girl who loves belly rubs and has quite the snort (definitely the pug snort)! We are looking for adopters who will have the patience to acclimate this girl to a new home and we know she will be a loving and faithful companion. She just needs someone to give her a chance.
If you’re short on time, try giving breakfast or dinner in a food puzzle to make them work for food. Kongs with frozen peanut butter inside are another option. It can be fun to try and hide treats around the house for your dog to find as well (as long as they are in places it won’t be destructive to get to). Try out different things and see what works best, or switch it up. Have fun and stay cool!

Take the Point Pleasant Beach Trolley With hot summer temps I avoid turning on the oven or stove for dinner. But since my family expects dinner no matter what the weather, I’ve had to resort to other measures. This grilled eggplant is now preferred over my traditional eggplant parm and it saves the hour of dipping and flipping the fried version requires. Pick up some pizza dough and throw that on the grill while you’re at it. The bonus of this meal is clean up is a snap too! Enjoy!
Grilled Summer Eggplant 1 medium eggplant peeled and sliced 1-2 large Jersey tomatoes 2 fresh mozzarella balls, sliced Fresh Basil or Pesto sauce (fresh or jarred) Extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) Tuscan herb rub (sea salt, garlic, rosemary, thyme, basil, black pepper) Place sliced eggplant in a large bowl and generously drizzle with EVOO, and sprinkle with herb rub. Place on a hot grill for 2-3 minutes per side until, allowing for slight charring. Place on plate and layer with fresh tomato and mozzarella. Drizzle with pesto or EVOO and fresh basil, salt and pepper.

Living in Color! by Natalie Berko
Chromotherapy is the therapeutic science of using color to adjust the bodies vibrations to frequencies that result in health and harmony. Light is electromagnetic radiation, which is the fluctuation of electric and magnetic fields in nature. Light is energy and the phenomenon of color is a direct product of the interaction of energy and matter. The human eye is sensitive to electromagnetic radiation only at wavelengths roughly between 380 and 780 nm. This small segment is what we call the visible spectrum or visible light. Visible light can be broken down into various electromagnetic frequencies relating each to a color of the rainbow. Since ancient times, cultures all over the globe have understood the power of color. The ancient Egyptians used specially built solarium rooms with different colored glasses. The sun would shine through the colored glass onto the patient to achieve specific therapeutic benefits. Others used different colored silk clothing to filter varying shades of light onto their bodies. There is also evidence of other cultures using colored waters and colored gels to achieve similar aims. The Earth, our continents, oceans, every living thing depends on light to be able to exist. Recent scientific evidence even suggests that light is in fact emitted by every cell in our bodies. We live in a sea of energy where color is working within us. Research and observation has shown that specific colors bring balance to our physical and emotional systems. An imbalance of one of the colors on the visible spectrum can manifest itself in physical or mental systems. It is through color therapy that a healer can work on various energy points to help restore balance to your system. Alternative medicine practitioners who use chromotherapy often relate the seven colors of the spectrum to specific areas of the body. For example violet is used to calm the nervous system, soothe organs and relax muscles. It has meditative qualities and is often used to treat conditions of the lymphatic system. Swiss psychologist Dr. Max Luscher launched his groundbreaking Color Test in the 1940s to measure a patients psychological states, and today, color therapy is frequently employed in public spaces. Though we may not even be consciously aware of it, we are living among it everyday. Restaurants frequently incorporate reds and oranges to stimulate hunger, while spas use soft greens and violets to induce relaxation. So next time you find yourself in a home improvement store staring at the paint sample you may look at your color choices just a touch more closely! Try the Luscher Color Test online and see what it reveals about you! www.colorquiz.com

Treat Yourself by Katherine Kehoe
I don’t know about you, but as we spend more and more time outdoors in flip flops, walking around, swimming in the pool, and so on, my feet are starting to look pretty gnarly. There’s only so much that a home coat of paint can do before it starts chipping off again – and it doesn’t help at all with the calluses and skin. Sure, there are home products for that, too, but honestly, who really wants to make it into a big procedure? It’s hard enough to find a few minutes to slap on some polish and wait for it to dry without smudging it on the carpet or the dog.

Some ladies I know go for mani/pedis regularly, but most of us don’t. We tell ourselves we can’t afford it or that we can’t find the time to walk in, or even that it’s uncomfortable to have someone else dote on us. But then we look down at our own feet and we cringe, and there’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable in your own skin. So I’m advocating for those of us who don’t generally treat ourselves to manicures or pedicures to go ahead and take the leap this month. You don’t have to start going regularly, but summer is winding down. Why not finish it in style?

You can make an appointment to make sure that you go. You can ask one (or several) of your girl friends to go with you and make a date out of it. If you have an open-minded man in your life, you could bring him, too! You could even bring your kids if you want to introduce them to something new and different. One of my favorite bonding experiences with my stepmother was going to get my very first mani/pedi with her before she married my dad (and I was twenty-five at the time; it’s never too late!). Or you can just go alone and get some much-needed quiet time and let someone else do the work for a little while.

It’s not going to cost you as much as a new outfit. It’s not as expensive as going out to dinner. Honestly, depending on where you go, it might not even be as much as going to the movies. It’s great to do on a rainy day when you don’t know what else to do with yourself. And when it’s over, you’ll be able to look at your pretty feet and hands and feel a whole lot better about slipping back into those flip-flops and walking out with a whole new flair! e...

The Small Business Guide on What to Post on Social Media by Rosalee Laws
When you are a small business or solo business owner finding the time for consistency on social media can be one of your biggest challenges. As a small business usually the business owner and sometimes employees, are responsible for creating content for the company. With social media, the frequency required and knowing what to start posting that will actually be beneficial to your business can be daunting, but hopefully this article will serve as both inspiration and a guide to the small business on what to post and the sort of tone each of the main social networks. But first, although these may be the main platforms, your business type may or may not require all of them. Two main rules of thumb: 1. Only use social sites that actually hold the type of people that buy from you and 2. Do not just talk about yourself and your business!
Number two is the biggest mistake I see businesses make on social media. It’s not about you. Social media is not just a channel to SPAM people with self involved hey look at us messages. You want to care about what customers of yours would be attracted to and want to see.
Things to post: • Upcoming events that are open to the general public • Photo gallery of your latest event or new items/services • Special promotions/discounts that are limited in time • Links (with short teasers) to recent blog articles • Customer testmonial videos
LinkedIn is the corporate bigwig of the bunch and where highly educated demographics hang out. LinkedIn’s professional nature generally extends to the tone of the site as well. When posting to LinkedIn, you want to keep it short, direct, fairly dry, and professional. Things to post: • Link to latest blog article • Link to campaign landing page • Announcements of hew hires, company news, (that sort of thing...)
Follow us on Facebook <insert magazines social here >
Other Networks
Things to post: • Photo from event that is currently happening • Sneak peaks of new product(s) • Photo of your store or office culture (make sure you have a fun office culture!) • Happy customers!
There are a bunch of popular social networks that I didn’t even include here. Real quick, here’s why:
• Google+ - As great as most Google products are, Google+ just never caught on. While you will invariably end up with a Google+ account (you have to have one to claim your business on Google Maps), there isn’t a large of enough community there to bring any kind of return on your time. But their collections can be beneficial to add product photos on your page.
Snapchat
Things to post: • Event geofilters • Behind the scenes Sneak peaks of new product(s) • Pretty scenery and neighborhood shots of where your business is located • Quick Interviews
• Yelp - Yelp is great, but unless you are in the restaurant business, you don’t really need to worry about Yelp.
• Pinterest - Pinterest has its place for sure (looking at you, florists, wedding industry, and clothing lines) and is a great place to sell housewares and DIY items, but most companies will not need to worry about Pinterest.
Things to post: • Upcoming event announcement • Link to relevant business resource • Live tweeting events • Special promotions/discounts • Link to latest blog article
Like I said at the beginning, social media can be a lot to deal with, but it’s not impossible. I tell every business owner to think each different social media site as a different party. There are different people attending each party, and let’s face it most of use would not show up to a party and scream at the top of our lungs as soon as we walk into the room hey look at me look at me. But yet thats what most people do on social media. They also forget the whole “social” par., which is to engage others in conversations. With a sound strategy, thinking give give get when it comes to content and a commitment to great content for your audience, anyone can be successful! If you need help crafting your message or tone for your social media channels, we’d love to chat with you and get your company headed in the right direction!
YouTube
Things to post: • Demonstration(s) of your product or service • Interview for the blog of an industry-related personality • Other industry related helpful tips to your customers • Video message from the business owner telling everyone to have a happy ________ (fill in the holiday :)) • Happy customer testimonials
