The Bucket List By Maureen Whelan

I’ve never made a bucket list for life nor have I seen the iconic movie starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, but I love the concept. As parents, our days pass by quickly, and are often filled with daily chores of groceries, laundry and shuttling kids, not to mention work. This monotony prevents me from being mindful of all the things I accomplish, or to take joy in the simple things. So, a few summer’s back we started a family summer bucket list, “Things to do before summer kicks the bucket”. We kept it simple, and allowed each member to add a few activities. It served as a launch pad when my kids complained of boredom, and helped motivate them as they worked to complete each item. They were excited to help plan the events, so they would research orchards, event calendars, weather reports and destinations. They would also work hard to help me clear my schedule, often pitching in with extra household chores. We found that each week we had a few activities to look forward to and to reflect on. My children discovered that even when activities didn’t live up to their expectations, we had fun together. The added benefit for me was at the end of the summer. It was an evening that I was dreading the start of school, and feeling guilty that I hadn’t done much with the kids that I glanced at the list. Most every item was checked and my outlook lifted as I remembered my time with them. I treasure the moments when I can spend the day with my kids, and that we all have fun. Some items I completed with just one of my children, others were family ventures, but each made me smile. So this weekend, take a few minutes and make make your list. Explore local activities you’ve never experienced, and the beauty that surrounds us. Reconnect with your kids, yourself, and the natural elements of the sand, sun, and surf. Finally, enjoy your time together before summer kicks the bucket! (Below are some past favorites and future picks)

Getting gray is normal Getting fat isn’t. What mature adults are saying about Dr. Tony’s Weight Loss Program:

Pain Relief, Too!

Medical doctor shocked

- Mike C., Wall

“I’ve been on the program for a month and lost 18-19 lbs. I feel good and my knees feel better.” - Jim, Point Pleasant

2 months, 25 lbs.

Ring The Bell

“I’ve lost over 25 lbs… I went to my MD and he weighed me 3 times because he didn’t believe the results.”

“I hit 30 pounds today and now I can enjoy my vacation!” - Charlie, Wall

“I am very happy to say that I lost 25 pounds in 2 months.” - Janet R., Manasquan

Sometimes People Don’t Recognize Me I strongly recommend Dr. Tony’s program to anyone who has tried to lose weight and does not like using prepared packaged foods, or going to weekly meetings with others. Dr. Tony was available to help me personally with any question or issue I had.

On April 23, 2015, I started Dr. Tony’s weight loss program. To my surprise, one week later I had dropped 12 pounds. After another week I was down another 10 pounds! Each week my weight continued to decrease, often by 5 to 7 pounds per week. By the beginning of August I had lost a total of 65 pounds. This is an easy program because it has a structured plan. The diet’s detailed guidelines were not tough to digest, and the plan did not keep me from dining out occasionally. I felt satisfied by the food choices and options.

Sometimes people do not recognize me, as my entire body has been reshaped. My health has improved and I lost the weight without surgery, other interventions, or drugs. The diet program was simple, straight forward and efficient. - Bill L., Wall

Remember the last time you got a new cell phone? You opened up the box and found a fantastic little device. When you touched the power button, the screen flashed to life and suddenly you were confronted with dozens of tiny icons on the screen. Immediately, your reaction was to look in the box for some paper that would contain some kind of explanation regarding how to navigate the multitude of buttons leading to all sorts of apps. But aside from that phone, the only other thing in the box is the power chord that will keep it up and running… and the rest was up to you. Unfortunately, when it comes to modern technology, our phones and laptops don’t come with manuals that walk us through the learning process. We’re left to blindly figure out how to use these devices on our own. Really, there are only a handful of ways we can do this. The first option is to stumble through via the trial and error method, and risk hitting the wrong button and finding ourselves more lost than when we started. The second is to go to the store and ask for help from a stranger, and the last option is to ask a friend or family member to show us how to do something. Unfortunately, sometimes the latter options make the situation even worse. When we defer to people who already know how to use the device, they tend to fly right through the steps and it seems so easy for them – while simultaneously making it even more frustrating for the rest of us as they leave us in the dust choking on technological jargon. As a result, a lot of people feel as though they need to be extremely tech-savvy to learn how to use these devices, and so they stick to what they already know and understand. Fortunately, you don’t have to be a “techie” to take full advantage of smartphones and tablets ; you now have a third option that was born from a recognition of how challenging getting good help can be. AppleSlice is a resource that was created to bridge the gap between the everyday user and these devices, as well as all of the apps that tag along with the system. AppleSlice offers an opportunity for basic, simple sessions (known as “slices”) designed for adults who want to become comfortable with using their Apple device.

Visit AppleSlice.com or call 732.800.1077

These slices are taught by adult instructors who are experienced, but not “techies”, and they understand how frustrating it can be to try to learn from impatient, formal store employees or busy family members. AppleSlice instructors approach each session with compassion and a desire to make the experience as easy as possible for the user. There is no rush, no hurry, and no jargon. With AppleSlice, users will find real conversation and tailored instruction delivered in small, digestible “bites”, so that everyone can learn apps one slice at a time.

“Beach House for Rent” by Mary Alice Monroe A book review by Brian Favretto

Cara Rutledge and Heather Wyatt are very different women. Cara grew up in Charleston, South Carolina and spent her summers on the beaches of the Isle of Palms. She was on her own at age 18 when she walked out on her father after refusing to become the southern belle he had hoped for. Her confidence helped her climb the corporate ladder in an advertising firm in Chicago. Now 50, she has abandoned the corporate life in favor of the slower pace she has learned to love during her childhood summers. Heather Wyatt has spent her whole life in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has been sheltered by her wealthy father and never had the chance nor the desire to spread her wings and see what the world has to offer. At age 26, she suffers from anxiety to the point of being medicated, and just the thought of socializing will cause her to hyperventilate. Be it chance or fate, the merging paths of these two women will have lasting effects. In “Beach House for Rent”, author Mary Alice Monroe brings these strangers together when they unknowingly need each other most in their lives. Cara Rutledge and her husband Brett are not in the most secure financial situation. They realize they are sitting on a gold mine after inheriting the house on the beach on the Isle of Palms, but the sentimental value of the house Cara lived in with her mother far outweighs its dollar value. She compromises by agreeing to rent the house for the summer. Heather Wyatt’s artistic abilities have earned her a commission to create illustrations of shore birds that will be turned into U.S. postage stamps. Her father sees the beach rental as the perfect opportunity for Heather to complete her work, as well as the only chance for him to spend some alone time with his new high-maintenance bride. With cash up front for the entire summer rental, everyone seems pleased, but Heather quickly begins to realize her weaknesses. She has never been alone, and every creak and rattle sends her nerves through the roof. She begins to shut herself in, wishing she could be more like her strong and self-assured landlord. Then she meets Bo, and begins to feel a passion burning in her heart that she has never experienced. She wants to know love, but she’s afraid to open her heart. Bo falls in love with Heather despite her oddities, and he’s angry and dumbfounded when she rejects him. Heather is angry at herself for allowing her fears to overpower her desires.

Almost immediately after renting the house to Heather, Cara experiences a loss in her life that turns her world upside down. The love of her life dies suddenly, and grief swallows her whole. As Heather is beginning to step out of her shell and into the sunlight, it is Cara who begins to cut herself off from the rest of the world and the things she loves. On the verge of financial ruin, she demands that Heather terminate her lease and go back to the shelter of her wealthy father, so that Cara can stay in the beach house. In one of the most compassionate scenes I’ve read in a long time, Heather recognizes Cara’s need for mercy. Derived from the Latin word “misericordia”, mercy can be translated to “relieving a heart that is in misery”. Cara’s heart is surely in misery, and we can all learn from Heather as she relieves her heart by offering a compromise that will help her financially and emotionally. This simple act creates a bond that strengthens as the story progresses. In “Beach House for Rent”, Mary Alice Monroe has created a good, old-fashioned love story. There are no superheroes with nine lives or nail-biting suspense that leads to blood and gore. It is a wholesome, uplifting novel that demonstrates the emotional strength that love can give, and reminds us of the kindness we can share with others. It’s easy to see what this author holds close to her heart. She begs us to take better care of our wildlife, especially along our shores. She teaches us about brown pelicans, red knots and sea turtles, and she schools us on the correlation between the shore bird population and ocean health. She demonstrates the value of being passionate about what you love, instead of seeking the almighty dollar, and in this book, she is not afraid to speak of God. “Beach House for Rent” is loaded with images of the ocean, beaches, docks, ferries and marinas. In our wonderful section of the Jersey Shore, these are things we see on a daily basis, yet we can easily take them for granted. Mary Alice Monroe points out the calming qualities these things can offer, reminding us how fortunate we are to live so close to beauty. Take your chance on a lesson in love, find out if Heather Wyatt is able to spread her wings, and prepare yourself for a masterpiece of imagery, as Monroe describes a sea turtle’s trek back to the ocean in one of the closing chapters. Buy yourself a copy of “Beach House for Rent” when it goes on sale June 20th. I was provided an advance copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. “Beach House for Rent”, 2017, Gallery Books.

Is Pet Adoption for You? by Lauren Kehoe

Dogs are amazing companions. When one becomes a dog owner, they often become one for life. While dealing with the passing of one may be difficult, the reward of finding and bonding with another one seems to take priority each time. As we age and adjust our lifestyles, the most suitable type of dog changes as well. Adopting a dog is a huge responsibility; it is now ours for the rest of its life. No one can predict the future, but some elements are in our control. Having a place to live that is secure and pet friendly is important. If someone is living in a temporary home, they may not be able to take their pet with them. Finding rentals that accept all breeds and sizes of dogs can be difficult or deliver a hefty fee. Stress of moving often is detrimental to dogs with certain personalities as well.

Sally’s Story

Lauren Kehoe is an avid animal lover and dog owner.

Sally is a sweet but timid 1 yr old Hound mix up from NC looking for a forever home. She will bolt at any chance so potential adopters need to be very aware of this and have a secure yard so she does not get loose. Sally will need a calmer home with patience to help her overcome her fear and gain some confidence. She will do best with another dog in the home to help with this as well. Please consider giving Sally a home she truly deserves.

Moving around for work or school can also be an issue. There may not be a family or friend to watch an animal for extended periods of time. Knowing one is secure enough in their living and work situations is vital when an animal will be dependent on you.

Hobie & Rusty’s Story

Another lifestyle factor to be considered is physical capability. It can be difficult to admit, but some dogs may be too strong or rambunctious for an individual. Trying to raise a dog that doesn’t match someone’s strength and activity level can be discouraging on both ends. Aging also factors into capability and stability. As we age, we may require assistance with certain activities. We may even have to move into homes that are more accommodating or facilities that do not allow dogs. Surprise health circumstances can interfere with ability to take care of our pets as well. Just because there are uncertainties does not mean that adopting a dog is out of the question. If committing to a long-term pet is unrealistic, there are plenty of older dogs out there. The idea of only having a dog for a few years may seem unsettling, but there are many benefits. Adult or older dogs are often already house trained and do not require as much time and attention as puppies or young dogs. They can be calmer and already settled into their personalities. They also tend to be overlooked by people looking for young dogs. Everyone’s lifestyle is different. Stability is one of the most important factors in knowing you are ready to adopt a dog. The great thing is that dogs can be as versatile as humans, and finding one fitting of your life, activities, and abilities is possible. Staff at an adoption center can help you choose a dog you are confident you can commit to, and help ensure that you can build a happy, positive relationship.

Hobie and his brother Rusty were adopted from us as kittens. Sadly, 10 years later they are back in the shelter becasue their owners were moving and were not able to being them along. Hobie is so much fun, he just loves to play but also Hobie Rusty loves to be pet. These big boys will be a welcome addition in any home, they like cats, dogs, and kids too. Rusty is a great boy also. He is so lovable and anyone would be lucky to have him as a pet. As you can see, he is very overweight. We have him on diet kitty food here and our staff and volunteers are giving him some extra playtime for exercise. Please dont make these boys wait to long to find their new forever home. Hurry in to meet Hobie & Rusty today!

Denny’s Story

Denny is all puppy! He is a lab/pit mix, 6 months old and full of energy. Potential adopters should be very active and have the time and patience to properly raise and train a puppy. We highly recommend obedience classes to teach him basis manners and how to be a good canine citizen. Denny is super sweet and will do well in any home that can give him the attention he needs.

Gee Gee’s Story

Ready… set… play! That’s the motto of this energetic 2 ½ year old kitty who recently came to us from the Humane Society in Newark. A very pretty black and white girl with an adorably chubby belly, Gee Gee enjoys some good scratches on the head, ears and chin, but not until she’s finished her playtime, please! She adores chasing the mouse on a wire and makes the cutest little “brrrr” noise as she runs relentlessly after her prey until she catches it. She’s sure to make you laugh out loud as you watch her race around the room in pursuit of her favorite toy. Come meet this little athlete today. She could be the new love of your life!

Halotherapy by Natalie Berko

Halotherapy began in Poland 1943, when Felix Boczkowski noticed that the miners at the Wieliczka salt mines did not suffer from the same respiratory illnesses as the rest of society. Metal and coal miners battled relentless, deadly Natalie Berko respiratory ailments, workers in salt mines were healthier than average people let alone other miners. Boczkowski conducted a study, he observed several people in the salt mines, they had very little respiratory problems if any and their skin looked dramatically younger as well as healthier skin then everyone else. The study on the benefits of salt, called “About the Breathing of Salt Dust”, was published and introduced this Halotherapy to the medical community. The first Halotherapy salt chambers opened in the 1960s in Eastern Europe. As Halotherapy grew more popular in the 1980 and 1990s, health and beauty resorts throughout Europe and Scandinavia began to install salt rooms and offer Halotherapy as one of their restorative treatments. Salt caves now are growing trend and popping up in North America. Although currently there have been no clinical studies of salt therapy in the United States, some past research suggests there may be something to it. A 2006 study from the New England Journal of Medicine found that inhaling hypertonic saline improved lung function in people with cystic fibrosis. Another test revealed that cigarette smokers who inhaled aerosolized salt temporarily improved smoking-related symptoms such as coughing and mucus production. Further studies on an inhalant device called ‘the salt pipe’ prove that the symptoms of chronic asthma and bronchitis sincerely improved upon inhalation of a salt based solution. During a Halotherapy session one usually is seated in a relaxing chair, some facilities have flat screen televisions while others may opt for ambient music. The room is completely coated with salt crystal and pumped full of salt-laden air. The salt is placed into a halogenerator that precisely grinds the salt into specific micro-sized particles and then disperses the salt aerosol into the air in the treatment room. As the salt travels in the treatment room, these salt particles of dry sodium chloride are inhaled into the respiratory system. The dry salt naturally starts absorbing allergens, toxins and foreign substances into your lungs and throughout your respiratory tract. The dry salt may help to reduce inflammation and open airway passages. The micro-sized crystal structure of pure NaCl particles break loose and clears out all the bad stuff. The properties of dry salt also absorb impurities, provides antibacterial properties and improves skin’s micro-circulation. Dry salt also accelerate cell rejuvenation and improves skin rigidity providing benefits for people with skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. Halotherapy can help a variety of conditions, however one does not need to be experiencing any to take advantage of this treatment. Dry salt therapy is very beneficial for overall general wellness. People are exposed on a daily basis to pollutants, airborne diseases, bacteria, allergens and other irritants. Halotherapy is an excellent way to cleanse and detox with increased lung capacity and oxygen intake.

Cool Outdoor Living Design Trends By Ashleigh Young

Summer is finally here which means more time spent outside, day and night, enjoying the warm weather. It’s also the time many homeowners start to focus on their backyards and patios, getting them ready for lots of al fresco entertaining in the months ahead. As outdoor spaces continue to evolve into additional living areas that function as seamless extensions of the home, we thought it would be a good time to share a few of 2017’s hottest outdoor living trends with you.

Inside Out

The great thing about summer is that your house now gains an extra “living” room – your outdoor space. And we’re continuing to see interior design elements moving outside as homeowners use side tables, ottomans, rugs, pillows and layered blankets to create a more comfortable, homey hang-out spaces. The one difference in choosing items for your outdoor versus indoor space is to focus on mold, mildew and fade-resistant fabrics and materials that can hold up to outdoor living, e.g. outdoor rugs made from nylon, polyester, polypropylene or bamboo and pillow fabrics like cotton canvas, duck cloth, textilene, polypropylene and olefin fiber (note: don’t forget to make sure pillow and cushion inserts are 100% waterproof as well!).

Coastal Color Palette

We usually see strong coastal influence in patio and outdoor living designs each year and 2017 is no exception. Blues, blues and more blues in shades of indigo, denim and aqua beautifully complement neutrals like sandy browns and whites, calling to mind the sand, sea and sky. Pops of vivid reds and tropical greens and the addition of shiny metallic objects and accessories provide contrast to the otherwise cool palette, providing visual interest and reminding us of coral, sea vegetation and silvery fish scales. Ocean creatures and seashells continue to show up on fabrics, most notably via repetitive, geometric and blue on blue patterns.

Ashleigh Young Ashleigh Young is an Advertising & Marketing professional and writer for 08742 Living Magazine.

Natural and Woven Textures

Over the past few months we’ve highlighted the use of natural textures and materials making their way into the home, and so it’s no surprise that we’re seeing that same trend happening in outdoor design. Organic-looking woven furniture, made of natural or synthetic materials, brings a timeless, textural feel to outdoor spaces. If you have more of a penchant for color, we found lots of colorful woven furniture options like West Elm’s Colorblock Woven Chair or Pier 1’s Coco Cove Collection armchair. For a more relaxed, rustic vibe, furniture sets made from wood like teak and eucalyptus are low maintenance and tend to age beautifully outdoors developing a weathered grey look over time. We even found some fun, multi-functional pieces like the Merry Garden eucalyptus wood end table and beverage cooler or Hayneedle’s Teak Serving cart with removable tray, so you can spend more time relaxing and less time running in and out of your house.

No matter what your personal style, the best accessory for summer entertaining is always a great group of friends and family. Happy Decorating!

I don’t know one business owner or company that doesn’t seek out that elusive magic marketing bullet that brings in truckloads of buyers or clients to their door. Now, do not get scared by the word “marketing.” I know so many business owners nowadays cringe at the word. When I refer to marketing I’m simply referring to ways, as Whoopi Goldberg once said in Sister Act, “We get butts in the seats.” In other words, the bait that finally catches the right fish you were after. How your business gets found.

4. Your campaigns aren’t targeted.

What most business owners do not realize is that the businesses that have social media REALLY working for them, have multiple marketing tactics that work all together that achieve that success. That is the real secret to finding that marketing tipping point in any business.

5. Your website and social media is ALL about your ‘business’ not about your ‘customer.’

The more targeted you are when implementing your marketing campaigns, the greater return on investment. Get incredibly specific. Break it down to; age, location, state of mind, interests, gender, time of life, lifestyle, children, etc. Create an avatar of your ideal client and they’ll be even easier and cheaper to find. Anything less is guessing and a waste of time. Make sure you are using the right social media sites and targeting the right audiences with social media ads.

Take a look at your website now. Does it talk about the benefits that your customers can enjoy when using your products / services / etc, or does it speak about who you are? People who are going through their Facebook or Instagram feed aren’t seeking products; rather, what they want is to come across something interesting or valuable to view. No one likes to hear someone talk about themselves all day. So why do most businesses think that is ok online? Make your posts and marketing about your customers and their interests.

Based on twelve years of experience working with business owners and companies, that span over 32 industries, the challenge is always knowing your current combination and where your marketing is failing. Pinpointing and improving these key areas can literally turn a struggling business around quickly. Here are some of the TOP reasons I see with businesses that are struggling to get people in the door. 1. Your offers do not compel potential customers to take IMMEDIATE action, and you have no deadlines on your proposals. If your freebies and discounts are always available, it means that there is no incentive for people to BUY TODAY! Especially when they do it tomorrow. Give reasons for immediate action and your sales will reflect the sense of urgency you create in your marketing campaigns 2. You’re not capturing visitors’ emails on your website at all. And, even if you are, your opt-in offer is for a newsletter and not a report, guide, article or coupon that upsells into your various products or service you offer. Unfortunately, websites should not be used as brochures. You must treat them as another way to be found and a virtual store. What many stores do is offer a free sample. You want to be able to keep in touch with people that show interest in your business. Make your opt-in offer (your ethical email bribe) for your website compelling and by doing so, you create a resource that demonstrates your knowledge and paints a picture of what you can do for your customer. 3. Your social media campaigns aren’t drawing people into your online sales funnel to convert. Your Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter accounts must direct people back to your website and into your sales funnel constantly. If you are a brick and mortar business, they (social media accounts) are one of the quickest way to generate new traffic, prospects and sales. Leverage them effectively and reduce your marketing costs immediately.

The Amazing Benefits of Aerial Yoga by Allison Feehan, N.D., D.Psc, CRMT

New to the scene of yoga in this part of the state, aerial yoga has amazing benefits to the mind, body and spirit. Aerial yoga utilizes silks in the form of hammocks that are suspended from the ceiling. Aerial yoga can help assist the student with traditional yoga poses all while benefiting numerous parts of the physical body. With the combination of traditional yoga poses, Pilates and dance, the use of a hammock, aerial yoga defies gravity and allows you to perform various yoga poses that may be difficult to do on the ground, but easier in mid-air.

Allison Feehan N.D., D.Psc, CRMT Owner of Integrative Healing and Wellness 732.202.6797 523 Main Avenue Bay Head, NJ

Due to the nature and fluidity of aerial yoga, almost all of the body parts are subjected to movement and stretching. This allows muscles and joints to become stronger and a regeneration to take place gently. With any work out, endorphins are released which allows us to fall into a physiological state which allows us to clear our minds and relieve stress. These happy hormones make us feel as if we can conquer stress and any obstacles better that may arise throughout our day. There’s better memory power here as well. “While going against gravity can be exciting, aerial yoga also helps with balance and stability in daily activities. Balance is a key component in daily activities, and aerial yoga helps maintain a good balance both inside and out.” Aerial yoga allows you to move more freely with less effort and therefore improving your flexibility. Suspension in mid-air removes undue tension on bones and muscles and flexibility then in turn improves your strength. This strength can be found in the core muscles all while increasing even more flexibility in the shoulders and spinal area. Anti-gravity workouts, such as aerial yoga also lengthen the spine relieving pressure on in the back. And while your hanging upside down like a bat, this too can aid circulation in the body staving off heart disease and old age. Aerial yoga detoxifies the circulatory and lymphatic systems, which lowers the onset of various cardiovascular issues. As with regular yoga or floor yoga, aerial yoga helps in the aid of digestion including indigestion and constipation. Aerial yoga silk hammocks can also be used to meditate inside of them. Once inside you can encapsulate yourself like a cocoon to connect with your higher self. Safe, quiet, and spiritual, this portion of Shavasana brings a whole new meaning to ending your practice. Aside from the many beautiful mind, body and spirit benefits to aerial yoga let’s not forget that it could make you giggle the first time you try it, especially if you’re with a friend. Trying this new type of workout with a friend and hoping you can stick the pose make for a laughing good time. Aerial yoga is a total body workout!

A Healthy Happy Medium by Katherine Kehoe

There are a lot of times throughout the year when it’s hard to stick with healthy habits, and summer is probably the longest stretch. One of the biggest concerns most of my girlfriends voice to me when the weather starts getting warmer is the stress of constantly being at cookouts or barbecues or feeling the pull for ice cream on a hot day. When you’re sitting by a pool and smell that glorious aroma of burgers on the grill, it’s hard to say no. And if you do muscle up the willpower to decline, you wind up feeling like you’re missing out while everyone else indulges.

Swap out. Instead of cheese on your burger, try some avocado for some healthy fat. Instead of traditional mayo-based cole slaw or potato salad, try a vinegar-based one. Instead of snacking on chips, have some fresh veggies. Instead of ranch dressing with your veggies, try hummus. There are loads of healthier alternatives that taste just as good!

Use the buddy system. Partner up with your significant other or a friend and make a battle plan before you go. Keep each other honest and remind each other not to go too crazy. Fruit for dessert. I know for me, ice cream is the absolute hardest thing to pass up in the summer. But this is also the best time of year for amazing fruits. Watermelon is a classic summer favorite, but this is also the season for pineapple, kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, and many more. These make a great option for dessert or a healthy snack, whether you toss them together in a salad, eat them on their own, or have them blended in a smoothie.

But it doesn’t have to feel like that. I’m here to offer some alternatives that can sit somewhere in between an all-out binge on chips and ice cream and having to munch on a celery stick.

Don’t Miss Our Next Issue...

2016

Finally, and most importantly, relax. It’s summer. It’s time to be outside in the gorgeous weather, around friends and your family while the kids are out of school, and to have fun. Let yourself have foods you like and don’t be so hard on yourself if you indulge a little more than you might have liked. Just head out for a peaceful evening walk at the beach or a few laps around the pool and don’t sweat for anything other than the weather!

Bring the salad. When you’re going to a cookout, and you’re not sure if there will be any options besides burgers, offer to bring one yourself! If you make a delicious salad loaded up with veggies or fruits and nuts, you can eat a boatload of it without having to feel guilty, and leave less room for the junk food.
