Kannaway’s Hemp Oil is derived from 100% legal non-GMO European industrial hemp, utilizing their proprietary extraction methods to extract the hemp oil from the mature stalk. The key to their proprietary extraction method is to achieve an “essential plant complex”, which is rich in cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, waxes and chlorophyll that are essential to the human body. No MMJ card is needed and products can be legally purchased in all 50 states of America. Each batch of hemp oil undergoes their Triple Lab TestingTM, which includes three separate tests of their product harvest and final packaging for sale. They were the first in the industry to create testing processes like these, ensuring that every natural product they offer is free of contaminants and of the highest quality possible. The end result is that their Quality Guarantee ensures NO genetically modified ingredients, NO pesticides, NO herbicides, and NO chemical fertilizers. Intent on protecting the environment, Kannaway utilizes labs that provide quality analysis while maintaining an environmentally friendly, green approach.

Choosing Wisely By Maureen Whelan

There are infinite choices we make each day as adults. From the moment you wake and until you go back to sleep we are all consciously and unconsciously making choices. While choices can be freeing, too many choices can be overwhelming. This is especially true for children who have not yet honed their decision making skills. Children need to develop the ability to make choices, and live with the consequences. In our plight to protect our children, we often take choice opportunities away. When this is done repeatedly over the course of a childhood, that child learns that they are incapable of making a decision. These children are unable to develop confidence in their own choices, they feel no control over their daily lives, and anxiety creeps in. Today’s society has made it more difficult for parents to teach effective decision making. Government regulation has made it’s way into virtually every aspect of our personal lives. This complicates decisions making because we have suddenly stopped asking ourselves, “Is it right for our families?” The legal-moral-ethical lines become blurred. That makes me wonder, if as parents, do we make choices based on what we believe is best, or what others may see and think? Social media allows so many people into aspects of our life that was once private, and that open door allows for unwanted comment and judgement. I teach decision making to children of all ages, and have found some great resources along the way that I use myself. Here are my top favorites: 1. Limit Choices to 2 Options for Children Under 4. Waffles or cereal for breakfast, thats it. Have your child learn to make choices in advance for a smooth sleep to wake transition in the morning. Pick clothing outfits, school snacks, and show and tells the day before to relieve decision making pressure. 2. Experience Consequences. Even if you have the financial means to provide it all, engage your child in the decision making process. Soccer or dance? If they decide they hate one stick with it anyway and don’t bail them out. The next time, they will make the right choice. 3. Hold Your Tongue. Avoid the,”I told you so”. Kids already know if they made the right choice. Instead have a conversation about how they can cope with this bad decision and make the right decision next time. 4. Teach Strategies. Remember the columns we used to make with “Pro’s and Con’s”? Writing things down can help provide clarity to difficult decisions. 5. Plan B - Always Have a Backup Plan. This is a great strategy for kids who can be rigid in their thoughts and wants. This teaches that life doesn’t always go as planned but you can choose how to deal with that. 6. Choose Happiness. This really is a choice. It’s not important where you live, your score on the video game or where everyone else goes on vacation. Find something today, right now that makes you feel happy. Do this everyday! 7. Don’t Explain Every Decision. I’ve been asked why I do or don’t do certain things for my kids. I simply reply, “I think this is the right decision for my family, I’m sure you do what is right for yours.” Most nosey-rosies quickly clam up!

10 Ways to Prevent Summer Sports Injuries It’s almost summertime… time for lots of outdoor sports and family fun! But, with the increase in outdoor activities and the heat can come an increase in sports-related injuries. The Jersey Shore Wellness Center gives the following quick tips to keep your summer fun and healthy, and keep you and your kids on top of your game. 1. WARM UP IN THE HEAT: When participating in sports, make sure you warm up properly. Take a quick 5-10 minute walk/jog to get that blood flowing and joints warm. 2. STRETCH YOUR LIMITS: Lightly stretch before activity to add flexibility to your muscles and ligaments. Focus on stretching your legs and back the most. 3. HYDRATE: Since the majority of the human body is made up of H2O, be sure to drink plenty of water or fitness drink. In the heat you get dehydrated much faster, which greatly increases your chance for injury. 4. COOL DOWN: A 5- to 10-minute post-exercise cool down followed by a deep stretch will help return your body back to its resting state and keep you less sore. 5. PRACTICE: Practice proper form in any of the activities you perform. Improper movements can increase injury. 6. TAPE FOR STABILITY: Use supports or exercise tape if necessary to support your joints and provide proper stability. 7. MAKE EXERCISE PART OF DAILY ROUTINE: Stop trying to be a weekend warrior! Most injuries occur because people don’t participate regularly, and then just push too hard. Exercise everyday, even if for just 20 minutes.

Dr. Tony Garrow & Dr. Susan Nemiroff

8. GET YOUR Zssssssssss: Proper rest is more important than you think. 8-10 hours of sleep a night will supply your body with the proper time it needs to repair any injuries. 9. GET THE RIGHT GEAR: Wear the proper equipment for your sport or activity, including good shoes, helmets, pads, etc. 10. ICE: Ice, ice, ice after exercise if you are sore or injured. Ice will decrease any inflammation that may be occurring at the site of injury or the overused joints. If the soreness continues for more than a few days, see your doctor of chiropractic.

Surf Into These Hot Summer Design Trends By Ashleigh Young

Memorial Day is just around the corner, and for most of us that means putting away our winter blankets and revisiting our color palette and décor to make our homes feel lighter and brighter for the 2017 Summer Season. For those of you who might still feel the winter blahs hanging around, look no further than some of the east and west coast’s coolest surf lodges for a bit of warm weather design inspiration. Crisp, White Bedding and Towels From Montauk’s Surf Lodge to Dana Point, California’s Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel, nothing is more relaxing than sinking into cool, crisp, all white, 400 thread count+ bedding after a long day in the sun. And who doesn’t like drying off after a cool shower with a big, white, fluffy towel or wrapping your tanned self in a light, white Turkish cotton robe? Not only do white bedding and towels give your bedroom or bathroom a clean, modern, timeless look, they’re also incredibly easy to maintain, especially if you have a lot of summer guests like we do. Tide, Zout and bleach are all you need to keep your whites looking like bright and new.

Ashleigh Young Ashleigh Young is an Advertising & Marketing professional and writer for 08742 Living Magazine.

Natural Accents Another theme we noticed was the use of organic, natural elements in surf lodge décor, used in simple, sophisticated ways to bring the outdoors inside. Giant clamshells are an extremely versatile accent piece that can be used as part of a simple vignette or serve a function like holding rolled, white hand towels in a guest bathroom or living plants and succulents to bring greenery and life into a space. Found objects such as an interesting piece of driftwood or handmade ceramic bowl of seaglass can be placed atop a stack of magazines or books, creating a beachy, breezy vibe indoors. Sisal rugs are great for summer. They sometimes shed a bit, but sand falls right through the weave of the rug, making it easy to sweep or vacuum up after guests leave. The key to doing this trend well is by exercising restraint, limiting your use of natural accents to one or two items that can serve as a focal point in the room versus making the room look like the tide just rolled out.

Graphic Art A quick and easy way to give any room a makeover is by updating your artwork. Flying seagull seascapes and boat paintings are cool, and the right pieces can add retro flair to a shiplapped bungalow. But more traditional artwork can also date a room, which is why we love simple, graphic, contemporary pieces like local artist Scott Szegeski’s gyutako surfboard prints, Carlos Lopez’s original oyster oil paintings or photographer Joni Sternbach’s large format “vintage” tin type photographs. These tips can not only give your home a fresh feel for summer, but also help make it more attractive and appealing to buyers if you’re looking to sell. Happy Memorial Day and Happy Decorating!

By Katherine Kehoe

Remember the last time you got a new cell phone? You opened up the box and found a fantastic little device. When you touched the power button, the screen flashed to life and suddenly you were confronted with dozens of tiny icons on the screen. Immediately, your reaction was to look in the box for some paper that would contain some kind of explanation regarding how to navigate the multitude of buttons leading to all sorts of apps. But aside from that phone, the only other thing in the box is the power chord that will keep it up and running… and the rest was up to you. Unfortunately, when it comes to modern technology, our phones and laptops don’t come with manuals that walk us through the learning process. We’re left to blindly figure out how to use these devices on our own. Really, there are only a handful of ways we can do this. The first option is to stumble through via the trial and error method, and risk hitting the wrong button and finding ourselves more lost than when we started. The second is to go to the store and ask for help from a stranger, and the last option is to ask a friend or family member to show us how to do something. Unfortunately, sometimes the latter options make the situation even worse. When we defer to people who already know how to use the device, they tend to fly right through the steps and it seems so easy for them – while simultaneously making it even more frustrating for the rest of us as they leave us in the dust choking on technological jargon. As a result, a lot of people feel as though they need to be extremely tech-savvy to learn how to use these devices, and so they stick to what they already know and understand. Fortunately, you don’t have to be a “techie” to take full advantage of smartphones and tablets ; you now have a third option that was born from a recognition of how challenging getting good help can be. AppleSlice is a resource that was created to bridge the gap between the everyday user and these devices, as well as all of the apps that tag along with the system. AppleSlice offers an opportunity for basic, simple sessions (known as “slices”) designed for adults who want to become comfortable with using their Apple device.

Series of 4 classes for $99 Visit AppleSlice.com or call 732.800.1077

These slices are taught by adult instructors who are experienced, but not “techies”, and they understand how frustrating it can be to try to learn from impatient, formal store employees or busy family members. AppleSlice instructors approach each session with compassion and a desire to make the experience as easy as possible for the user. There is no rush, no hurry, and no jargon. With AppleSlice, users will find real conversation and tailored instruction delivered in small, digestible “bites”, so that everyone can learn apps one slice at a time.

“The Devil She Knows” by Bill Loehfelm A book review by Brian Favretto

Maureen Coughlin is stuck in the grind. She feels as if she’s been handed a life sentence. Her prison is the borough of Staten Island. Her jail cell is “The Narrows”, a middle-of-the-road bar where the blue collar clientele unwind into the wee hours of the night. Her hard labor is waiting tables and cajoling her customers into an extra few dollars tip so she can scratch out her rent payment. It’s the same thing night after night. At age 29, she wonders when the opportunity will present itself for her to escape. Then it happens. One night at the bar when work turned into play, Maureen blacks out from too many drinks and a few lines of cocaine. She wakes up and stumbles into a scene she wishes she could un-see. What transpired that night between her boss Dennis and an increasingly popular politician Frank Sebastian, was meant to be kept in the dark. Maureen promises to keep her mouth shut, but her tough-girl nature won’t allow her to play the game on Sebastian’s terms. Her life will only be played out on her own terms. When Dennis turns up murdered, she knows her life is about to change, but this is not the opportunity she had been hoping for. In “The Devil She Knows”, author Bill Loehfelm does a fantastic job of bringing the main character to life. Maureen Coughlin represents the unmotivated college dropout who believes her big break will be handed to her, At 29, she doesn’t have a boyfriend, a career, or a plan for her future. We learn that her father walked out of her life, and the relationship she has with her mother is questionable. That fateful night at work, a fundraiser for Frank Sebastian, proves to be the trigger that forces change in Maureen’s life. Frank Sebastian is an ex-cop that now runs a large security firm, and has steadily gained popularity in the local political arena. We come to find out that he has a dark side that we wish no human being could possess. He is a sexual predator, and does his best to silence his victims and murder his witnesses. When Maureen realizes this, her strategy becomes one of survival, and she recognizes that she needs help. Here, Loehfelm brilliantly dives into Maureen’s introspection.

She realizes that she has spent her years indifferently. She has “a life full of strangers”, people she sees all the time but knows nothing about. She doesn’t have anyone to turn to in her time of need. She feels unwanted and shunned because she is stuck in a situation that wasn’t her fault. Her acquaintances don’t want to stick out their necks for someone who is barely a friend. I think many of us can relate to this in some way, especially in this digital age where conversation and human contact are dwindling. Our lives are becoming impersonal, just like Maureen’s. Luckily, Maureen finds some hope and some help. Her mother takes her in, and someone from the bar gets her in touch with Detective Nat Waters, who unofficially takes an interest, since he shares a past with Frank Sebastian. However, as Waters drags his feet and Sebastian becomes more aggressive, Maureen decides she will have to solve this problem on her own, and begins to hunt the hunter. Can Maureen overcome the devil she knows? Can she accomplish it on her own? Bill Loehfelm has a slightly different writing style and I really enjoyed reading this novel. It has to be increasingly difficult to come up with an original plot, and as this type of drama has played out in countless other books and movies, what sets Loehfelm’s novel apart is the character development of his protagonist, Maureen. We get to know her not only by what she says, but even more so when she questions her words and thoughts. Her rationalizations are real life. How often do we say something and then wonder why we said it, or tell ourselves how we really feel? Loehfelm, who now lives in New Orleans, grew up in Staten Island, so he is well versed in the local topography, and “The Devil She Knows” takes us on a dark and twisty ride into Staten Island’s underbelly. Sayreville, New Jersey even gets a fictional cameo appearance (but please, Mr. Loehfelm, it’s the New Jersey State Police, not the Jersey State Police!). This novel is a few years old, but it spawned a series, and with the 5th book in the series due out this July, it was refreshing to start at the beginning. Give “The Devil She Knows” and Bill Loehfelm a shot sometime soon, and you won’t regret it. “The Devil She Knows”, 2011, Sarah Crichton Books.

Foster a Pet by Lauren Kehoe

Adopting dogs is a great thing, but not everyone can commit to years of owning and caring for a pet. Another great option is fostering an animal. There are many dogs in need of fostering. Overcrowded shelters are always looking for foster homes. Puppies or older dogs who may need more time and attention are prime candidates and would benefit from foster homes over shelters. Having a dog in a foster home also allows observation of how a dog behaves in a home setting, which can be much different than an overstimulating shelter. It gives potential adopters a better assessment of the dogs’ personality, helping to prevent shelter returns.

Birdie’s Story

This dog is part of our shelter outreach program where we take dogs from overcrowded shelters in hopes of finding them a forever home here! We generally do not have much background info on them and cannot guarantee they are housebroken. They are all up to date on vaccines, spayed/neutered and microchipped.

Lauren Kehoe is an avid animal lover and dog owner.

Foster homes are also useful for hospice cases. Some individuals open their homes to dogs with life threatening health conditions or who are deteriorating from old-age. The dogs can live out their final days in a comfortable, peaceful environment rather than having to be euthanized in a shelter. This can be very difficult, but knowing that you gave an animal that chance can also be life changing. Shelter dogs are not the only ones who benefit from foster homes. Service dogs such as seeing-eye dogs need homes to raise their puppies in. Living with a family allows trainers to discover if the puppy will be an appropriate candidate. It also exposes them to all kinds of things in the real world, familiarizing them with things that could seem startling or strange if not introduced early on. Fostering service dogs is equally rewarding. The foster parents get to watch their puppy graduate and match up with someone whose life will be drastically changed by their presence. It can be difficult to imagine bonding with a dog and later having to give it away to a new family or watch it pass on, but someone interested in fostering should focus on the positives. Fostering a dog for a short time can help a family see if they are interested in adopting a long term pet and prepared for the responsibility that comes with it. It allows them to make a difference in a dogs’ life, and potentially a human’s. Many foster parents are able to help multiple dogs if they have them for a period of time then take on another. Foster dogs will also often have food, toys, and other supplies paid for if finances are an issue. Being a foster parent is not for everyone, but it works great for many. It is important to assess the pros and cons and be open and honest with whatever organization you are communicating with to discover if it will be a good fit.

Kobe’s Story

1 year old, transfer from Associated Humane Society-Newark.

His gorgeous boy has the softest gray fur ever - he feels just like your favorite cashmere sweater when you pet him, and he’s happy to let you do just that. Look into those beautiful sage green eyes and you can see that a gentle spirit lies within. A newcomer to JSAC and still a little shy, Kobe warms up nicely to a tender touch and he is beginning to feel comfortable with his surroundings in our free roaming cat room. He often settles himself in one of the covered cubbies on a cat tower, but with a little encouragement he will come out to meet you. Even the shyest cat can be a playful and loving companion, and with Kobe once you scratch the surface you will be pleasantly surprised at the gem that lies beneath. Given time and patience we know that he will blossom into a loving best friend for some very lucky person. We think that ‘to know him is to love him’!

Cathy’s Story

3 1/2 years old, transfer from Associated Humane Society-Newark.

Dubbed ‘Chatty Cathy’, this little one is happy to tell you what’s on her mind with the cutest little meow ever! She’s friendly, affectionate, and happy to interact with feline and human friends alike. She enjoys a good playtime when the string toy comes out, and in her quiet moments she enjoys a nice brushing. Then she’s off to one of the high spots on a cat tree where she can gaze out the window and settle in for a nap. If you have room in your home and heart for this sweet little lady, please stop by to meet Cathy. She’s waiting to go home!

Chicken salad is not a food I would ever order at a deli, and once you taste this one you won’t either. This is not your typical…. too white, too mushy, too much mayo chicken salad. My clan requests I make it at least once a week for lunches and I’ve taken it to summer picnics and gotten rave reviews. Serve it on toast, croissants, or in lettuce wraps as a gluten free option. If you add a slice of crispy bacon or melt some sharp cheddar on top, you will never look at chicken salad the same again.

Chicken Salad

2 large boneless skinless chicken breasts- about 1 ½ lbs.

Place chicken in medium saucepan and cover with water. Add a generous sprinkle of salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, Mrs. Dash, paprika and a splash of apple cider vinegar. Simmer for 35 minutes until very tender. Allow chicken to cool in the water so that the meat reabsorbs juices lost during the cooking process. Trim any visible fat and shred with 2 forks.

1/2 cup finely chopped crispy tart apple (Fuji, Honeycrisp or Winesap variety) 1/4 cup white onion finely chopped (about ½ small onion) 1/3 cup dried cranberries 1/3 cup finely chopped celery (about 1 stalk) 1/3 cup chopped walnuts (optional) 1/2 cup mayo 2 TBSP Woeber’s Champagne dill mustard 1 TBSP apple cider vinegar salt and pepper to taste Mix all ingredients with shredded chicken. Chill for several hours before serving for best taste. Enjoy!

Dry Brush by Katherine Kehoe

Dry brushing has been used for centuries by Scandinavians and Russians, recently it seems this ancient practice is gaining modern popularity. It’s been used for centuries to keep the body healthy and skin looking beautiful. Today these brushes are found in health and beauty stores everywhere and are even offered on many spa menus. The skin is Natalie Berko a complex system made up of nerves, glands and cell layers, that when healthy, serve as a buffer that helps protect your body from extreme temperatures and chemicals. Approximately one third of your body’s toxins are excreted through the skin, skin also produces antibacterial substances to shield you from infection. Your skin even contains densely packed nerve cells that act as messengers to your brain, making your skin a crucial part of your interactions with the world around you. Your skin is the largest organ in the human body, and plays a crucial role in supporting detoxification. However if skin is overrun with toxins or dead skin cells, it will be unable to eliminate wastes from your body efficiently. Dry brushing helps to unclog pores, eliminating dead cells allowing the excretion of toxins that may have become trapped in the skin. The holistic practice yield many benefits both internally and externally. Someone who is new to dry brushing will most often notice first the benefit of exfoliation. The process of running a firm, natural bristled brush over the skin helps loosen and remove dead skin cells softening the skin. The added benefit of exfoliating skin, is clearing oil, dirt and residue from the pores. Dry brushing stimulates the lymphatic system which is a major part of the body’s immune system. Many of these lymph vessels run just below the skin, proponents of dry brushing claim that brushing the skin regularly helps stimulate the normal lymph flow within the body and help the body to detoxify itself naturally. Increased energy and blood flow are also positive side effects of a regular practice. One theory suggests that because it increases circulation, brushing in turn increases energy giving the body and mind a natural boost. When looking for a brush it’s good to look for hard bristles and not soft nylon. A natural bristle is preferable such as cactus or a vegetable derived fiber. A firm bristle is ideal or the technique doesn’t work, as you need to be able to stimulate lymph flow. Care for your brush by spraying it with pure tea tree oil before using, and soak it in an antibacterial soap washing with hot water. For optimal results dry brushing should be done daily, or even twice a day. Try the following routine for 30 days and see the results for yourself!

1. Purchase a natural bristle brush with a long handle so you can easily reach all areas of your body.

2. Get naked! Stand in a bathtub or on a tiled surface to catch the falling skin cells.

3. Begin brushing by starting at your feet and moving in long sweeping motions toward your heart. This direction is key to stimulate blood flow. 4. Brush several times in each area, overlapping as you go. The pressure you apply while brushing the skin should be firm but not painful. (avoid scrubbing) Skin should be pink after a session (not red or irritated). You can brush for as long as you’d like, the average time for a session lasts between 10 and 20 minutes. 5. Skin will become less sensitive the more you dry brush, but take care as you brush over more sensitive areas.

6. Once you’ve brushed your entire body, jump in the shower. *Alternating between the hottest water temperature you can stand and the coolest stimulates blood circulation bringing more blood to the top layers of the skin.

7. After getting out of the shower, pat skin dry and apply a natural fruit oil like rose hip or coconut oil.

Good Health is a Full-Time Job by Allison Feehan, N.D., D.Psc, CRMT

Nobody said that being healthy was easy but no one ever told you it was a full-time job either! What does being healthy even mean anymore? We are bombarded on a daily basis to eat this, don’t eat that, exercise this way and not that way. All of it can be so overwhelming and you may be feeling as if any type of plan is just not obtainable. I can assure you that it is all obtainable but just not all at once.

state. Guilt, fear, and anger are relatable emotions for most of us on a day-to-day basis depending on what is going on in our lives. Managing our emotions can become an art or have you feeling a sense of hopelessness. Bach Flower remedies are a great remedy to assist in an emotional imbalance. Try Bach Flower Rescue Remedy if you aren’t sure which one may assist you the most. There are no interaction with medications and each Bach Flower remedy assist with specific emotions. In addition to this approach, incorporate meditation, deep breathing and mindfulness when you’re ready.

One must focus on so many aspects of the self that sometimes it isn’t just diet that is the culprit. Looking at your situation from a mind, body, spirit aspect there may be a series of things going on all at once or one particular aspect that is setting off a series of other things. Let’s take a look at each aspect of the self. Once we break it down it will appear as much more obtainable to you. Do not become overwhelmed with the whole of any plan. Always break down the plan and tackle each thing and rest to assess your body’s response and situation after each attempt. As Americans we tend to reach for a magic pill or magic solution to make our issue go away and quickly. This time I challenge you to do the work and invest in yourself.

Emotional: Everyone thinks that emotional and mental are one in the same but this isn’t the case at all. To take a closer look into this aspect we assess our peace, clarity, divine acceptance, spirituality, communication, our trust and vulnerability, our raw creativity and passion, desire, our survival, and trust. When we experience an imbalance in any of these areas we feel the spiral effects and this may lead us back into that mental

We all come in various shapes and sizes. No approach in life is a one size fits all and the approach to your health and wellness should be viewed just the same. Being healthy is a full-time job and it is work but it is so worth it. You’re worth it. Health and wellness can sometimes feel like a triathlon so, next time you attempt to get your health and wellness into check try to approach it one step at a time. Focus on one area that you wish to improve on. As you gain strength in this area you will be more successful as you more forward. Master one before attempting another. In Health and Wellness

Physical: This area pertains specifically to our physical selves. Organs, limbs, strength, stamina, and breathing are critical to our existence. When one of these areas is compromised we may tailspin into an emotional roller coaster or mental disease. Keeping yourself on a vegetarian or lean protein diet is beneficial. Not everyone is the same so listen to your body or your healthcare professional during this time. Try to consume only organic and NON GMO foods. Balancing your pH naturally by consuming 80% alkalizing foods and 20% acidic foods is the key. Exercise is another piece of the puzzle in your health. Movement is needed so we don’t stiffen up and become lethargic. So much beautiful chemistry takes place when you exercise. All those natural responses to exercise can leave a person in good mental and emotional states as well as in good physical shape.

Mind: This is the mental aspect of what we have going on. Our perception self-expression, intuition, self love or love of others, our foundations, grounded-ness or ability to let go. When these are in-check we fell fantastic but when one of these experience a “malfunction” or dis-ease we may experience confusion, insomnia, depression, security issues, or even fear on a regular basis. Meditation, mindfulness and deep breathing can help to alleviate these symptoms and quiet our monkey mind. We don’t have to be masters at meditation to meditate. Counting your breath in-take and focusing on that can feed that monkey a banana! A contributor to your overall health comes from this aspect of your life.

Brand New Old Goodies by Katherine Kehoe

After a crazy warm, cold, warm, cold, totally unpredictable winter, we’re finally heading into the solidly warm weather. And we know what that means – time to break out the spring and summer clothes and put away the bulky sweaters and jackets. Unfortunately, if you’re like me, those clothes might not fit as well as they did last year. It’s one of the most defeating feelings to pull on a cute tank top that you rocked all last summer and realize that now, it gives you a muffin top. While I’m totally an advocate for being active, eating healthy and getting back in shape, this can take time. Even with the best effort, that tank top might not fit right again for a few good weeks. But in the meantime, nobody likes having the air squeezed out of them by too-tight clothes all day long. Plus, not only you do you want to be comfortable in your clothes, but it’s also important to feel confident. You want to be able to walk out of the house knowing that you look good. But who has the money to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe just for that purpose? Remember, we don’t have to head out to department stores or major label outlets to find new clothes. Here at the Jersey shore, we have some hidden gems right in our own backyards – consignment shops. I know that some people are wary of secondhand shops, thinking the clothes might be too worn or dirty. But the world of these kinds of shops has changed quite a bit. There are some serious standards for the condition and quality of the clothing they’ll accept to sell. There are all kinds of designer brands hanging there on racks for reallyridiculously affordable prices, just waiting for you. It doesn’t just stop with clothing; many of them also offer jewelry, bags, shoes, and other fun goodies, all for way less cost to you than buying them brand new. I personally will hit consignment shops whenever I need a quick outfit for a special occasion, especially if it’s a dress or something that I know I’ll only wear once or twice. But it’s also a great way to revamp your wardrobe and find things that fit you and look fabulous, without breaking the bank. Just Google “consignment shops near me”, and you’ll find all kinds of options to explore. You can almost always find something wonderful. Technically, the clothing may be “old”, but they can be brand new to you!
