In architectural tectonic, bamboo is frequently used in the way of bamboo pole. Through the process from bamboo pole manufacture to bamboo strip to rethink the possibility of bamboo in architectural construction. However, weaving craft of bamboo is usually restricted by close form(cylinder, dome, arch‌) in traditional technique. The challenge of this project is to think how to reshape the 2D weaving plan become freeform surface(gyroid surface) and have enough structural resistance in the same time. The foundation of construction utilize the most strong and stability technique, called "hexagon weaving" . Furthermore, using the way of lamination and mutil-layer to make the unit become two-force member system that may generate enough strength to the double curve surface. In terms of techniques, I choose hexagonal weaving as basic unit, which possesses the most structural strength. The hexagonal weaving is composed of three different direction, each direction cross and lock together. At the time of weave, bamboo strip up and down to interlock each other become stable surface. Therefore, the experiment of structural system is based on the hexagon weaving to develop freeform model.

Double-Layer Double hexagon weaving have higher density to stable the surface. Meanwhile, it also create special patter for the structure.
Gyroid Surface MIT research the gyroid surface is the most efficient structure from 2D plan to 3D form. The continuous surface support the structure enough shear force. Actually, gyroid surface is space truss, it possibility provide a new way of architectural structure system.

Gyroid surface is complicated double curve surface that cause the hexagon pattern to distortion. Thus, I use rectangular matrix segment to divide surface become hexagon surface unit.
The joint aid the weaving unit to join together accurately. It have correct angle and double layer to fix the bamboo strip.

Parametric
The prototype is tested to study the structural strength. The edge of gyroid surface laminated by bamboo strip to promote the pressure force and tension force. And the continuous surface support the structure enough shear force.
The purpose of parametric unit is to control the light from exterior to interior. The variety opening hole could create different space atmosphere. And then,the parametric unit fabricated using the rigid point to shape correct curvature.

Tea House Bamboo is one of hardest control material in nature. Each of bamboo pole is unique include the density of fiber, the distance of node, the width of diameter , and so on. The irregularly natural characteristics will cause unpredictable result of construction that can't be simulation by human, but it is also the most valuable thing of bamboo. In the tectonic, designer can take control of regular form, but the architectural detailed texture interpreted by the irregular characteristic of bamboo. That is similar to the theory of teasim named wabi-sabi that describe the appearance of irregular, rough, imperfect of natural material and then search for spiritual peace from the perception of material. The program of this project is used to be tea house. Through different disturbance to the unit of bamboo weaving to discuss the shadow of pattern between artificial regularization and natural irregularity, moreover, in the deep and light of layering shadow create different conscious to users. The path of this tea house is like a journey of purifying soul, from the shadow of mess to the shadow of illusion, in the end, people can feel clam and enjoy a cup of tea in the shadow of deep.

Fabrication & Process The large scale model choose the first half of tea house to extend and change. The integrally woven structure had beem employed by computer topological calculation and simulation to create the texture and density. It is asymmetrical and freestanding structure, the non-closed double curve surface is hard to do in traditional bamboo craft. However, using the method of stacking and overlapping to produce a two-force system that enhances the strength of the curved planes and enable to finalize the massive structure.

The free form displayed by Bamboo Weaving is difficult to achieve through traditional frame structures made of bamboo sticks and similar bamboo craft skills. Its structural advantage is that the curved woven from bamboo can produce adequate resistance while being able to create wide-ranging changes that offer subtler perceptive experiences.

The project aimed at minimal surface, expecting to create two force system of continuous surface. However, bamboo is straight originally, how to form double curve surface with itself and produce structural resistance at the same time without any force assistance is difficult problem. In the process, using the behavior of bamboo can weave itself to arrange them to three direction on the segmentation of surface. And then, it become weave consisted of the pattern of hexagon and triangle. Because this is double layer structural system, the first weaved layer should offset and segment again.

In the algorithm process, the surface will form seriously distort in the condition of high curvature. If compulsively segment the surface, it will cause serious twist of bamboo and the joint of triangular shear plate also have severely effect of distortion. Therefore, I try to segment surface to small unit, and the unit computing to weave by itself. However, the unit connect with other unit that cause the pattern of bamboo can’t be align and splice each other even have some unit connect with above five unit in the condition of complicated surface. In order to avoid the complicated algorithm of computing, the construction finally use the way of projection. Thus, the surface pattern can’t distort in the top view, but the diversity triangular shear plate turn to simplify. When in the high curvature surface, the triangular shear plate will elongate. However, those different length of triangular shear plate lead sunlight into interior in new way that form special atmosphere unexpectedly.

To put it simple, this structural system is similar to truss, there have shear plate structure to connect two weave layer in the triangle segmentation. Therefore, using algorithm computing to change the pattern of weaved to form different scale of hexagon and triangle can shape more complicated surface.

Notation
The concept of this project inspired by chameleon color changing mechanism. Most people think chameleons change color for camouflage but they convey emotion instead. Their skin structure have three layer that is main key of color changing. Appearance of chameleon is controlled by second layer of cells called iridophores. Iridophores contain tiny nanocraystals According to the arrangement of nanocraystals , they can form different pattern. For example, when chameleon feel relaxed, nanocrystals inside iridophores are densely packed, reflecting green light. When chameleon feel excited, the distance between nanocrystal will increase and become sparsity. Therefore, visible light shine on different pattern of nanocrystals will reflect different wavelength of lights because of physical phenomenon of refraction, scattering, diffraction. The reason why nanocrystals have interesting density and sparsity pattern, because nanocrystals rotated in three dimension space, when different angle of perspective will see it closely or far away. That is visual illusion.

Transform I think the most fascinating of chameleon is changing the form of pattern by rotating, and then reflect diversity color lights. I attempt to make many dynamic model like chameleon skin. Therefore, using paper folding to present to present the pattern change of chameleon. The most interesting is the paper folding can be rotated endless. With the different angle rotating, the pattern of paper folding can also change like chameleon skin. Thus, if the model analog to chameleon skin. The density pattern like the situation of relax, on the contrary, the sparsity pattern like excited. Emotional Landscape 50
Prototype The prototype finally developed that made by laser cutting and 3d printer it can also be rotated and changed pattern. Meanwhile, the prototype have interactive relationship. It is composed of six triangular pyramid combine together to become hexagon geometry like ring. There have two edge of each triangular pyramid link with others. So, just install motor on the link of two unit, the prototype can workable. On the other hand, the center of prototype can shape different hole when it rotated to different angle. Using physical computing program (Arduino) I set six condition are 0, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180 degree. When at the angle of 0, 90, 180 degree, the prototype central hole close totally. When at the angle of 45, 135 degree, the hole is maximum.

The prototype will be put on the sea surface, my design purpose to reflect hot sunlight and adjust sea temperature by rotating to different condition. Under the water, using the prototype to weave become fishnet to go fish farming. The aquaculture to lead cluster effect. Most important is the fishnet can prevent warm water of current to inside by rotating, too. On the other hand, the prototype also is artificial reef provide suitable space to local fish inside. The destination of my project is adjusting sea temperature for creature living.By the prototype different condition create comfortable environment. Temperature also represent the situation of ocean, through the unit color to reflect the ecosystem underwater. My design want to solve the problem of warming water and recovery the coral to let people can see the magnificent nature again. 53
The site is located on Kenting and Green Island in the south of taiwan. Currently, the most important problem is coral bleaching in there. First, EL neon and global warming rising the sea temperature. But coral is sensitive to temperature and quality of water. High temperature and low PH value make coral dead. In the recent year, even appear super EL neon and extreme climate make the problem seriously. Second, Maanshan nuclear power plant located in Kenting release hot water to the sea. So, warm water caused the coral dead, too. The coral of Kenting Bay is almost die now. If the problem of nuclear power plant and climate change is not to improve, specialists predict most coral will die in ten year. In the wake of coral bleaching, the rest of creature will die later. The diverse ecosystem of taiwan will become deathly stillness.

Condition Take salmon farming for instance, l divide salmon life to six stage to match with the six condition of prototype. The six stage is spawn, alevin, smolt, adult, migration and courtship.The different stage need different temperature and cause different color. During spawn stage, the prototype turn to zero degree, and the color is red. In this condition, the unit reflect hot sunlight totally to cool down sea temperature. Because salmon need low temperature environment to lay eggs at this time. On the other hand, the red color also warn people to go away. Because pregnancy salmon is very sensitive and irritable now. adult stage, the unit rotate to thirty degree, and the color is green. At this time, a part of sunlight and current can go through unit to heat sea temperature. Because adult salmon need more heat to growth. The green color also mean people can close even touch because fish is stable and peaceful. Therefore, the prototype like nanocrystals of chameleon can convey information through color and pattern changing.

Landscape Every aquaculture is made up of four important part. In sequence from top to down are landscape, walking path, hexagon structure and artificial reef. First, the landscape is composed of many prototype combine together. The landscape not only reflect hot sunlight but also be a dynamic plaza controlled by fishes. Second, the walking path is used to link other aquaculture. Meanwhile, there have market, cafÊ and so on to set here. Third, the hexagon structure purpose to fix artificial reef. Fourth, the artificial reef is the dynamic prototype, too. It’s not only prevent hot water to impact farmed fish but also protect local fish to live inside.
The landscape can be rotated along with ecosystem emotion underwater.It will have differnt activity when the surface up and down.
Path People can visit the ecosystem trough this path surrounding fishnet.Meanwhite. It have fish market and some cafe shop on the crossroad.

The radius of structure pipe is 20 cm.It have enough buoyancy to surport the weight of walkway.
Fishnet The scale of the unit in landscape on the sea surface is 6 meter, and every triangular pyramid have glasshouse inside to plant vegetable and fruits. So, maybe those plants can become feed for fish or to sell. For the sake of the rolling unit, I design ball joint to link structure and glasshouse. The ball joint can reduce the impact on glasshouse when rotating. As the unit of artificial reef on fishnet is 3 meter. The unit is fixed on the hexagon structure and have three bridge member to connect. The combine joint also can be rotate, make the dynamic unit to work. Inside the artificial reef have many vertical and horizontal pipe to let fish can live here.

In the future, l think the prototype not only reflect to sea ecosystem but also apply to urban. It may be new facade system. Fixed on the building structure to reflect air pollute. If urban appear low quality air like high co2 or pm 2.5 the unit will change color to warn people in the city. Therefore, once object have "emotion" l think people have possibility to receive more information from our environment. I believe the project isn't limited to architecture but apply to engineering, art, urban‌‌

Dadaocheng The site located in Dadaocheng in Taipei city where had been busy port to goods collecting and distributing. With Tamsui river deposit by the mud and sand, Dadaocheng gradually fallen into decay. Currently, government build 9 meter tall embankment to let people totally isolated with water. However, Dadaocheng have diversity urban texture weaved with Tamsui river. Thus, this project using the arrangement of dwelling units to represent the experience that change of space in prosperity and decline in Daduocheng.

The site is located in the end of Tamsui old street near the river and design for visitor center. Chameleon is my major concept. The site is very special because it surrounding by many colorful lights but itself is very dark . So, l want to lead the diversity lights to the site by mirror reflected. Through the mirror the visitor center can reflect tamsui activity and environment to give visitor impression to Tamsui.

Analysis
By analyzing the distance of lighting source and angle, the building have 18 meter tall. It have large mirror run through the building center space to the rooftop. It like an 18 meter mirror tower to detect the light and view and then reflect to interior space. Therefore, visitor have impress image to Tamsui culture and environment. For example,the light of wave will be reflect on the interior wall in daytime or it will be render by the light of the shop,ship or light-house in the night and so on.

This project have many mirror and atrium space. Therefore, the boundary of space gradually break through the reflection of mirrors. Visitors in the space of diversity image that is consisted of Tamsui’s human and nature landscape. The purpose of the project want to represent the original Tamsui include historical sites, river, boats 、lighthouse……
