My name is Lin Shuyao and I am an architecture student from School of Design, Nanyang Polytechnic. My

interest in Architecture started when I went for the NYP open house. I felt that the course is interesting as it was about design. While studying in Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), I get exposure to many different types of projects and assignments. These train me to think things in more architectural ways, and also upgrade my project skills. I am now comfortable doing sketches, AutoCAD drawing, 3D Rhino models and other softwares. I like to work together with my classmates, share ideas and consult lecturers to complete projects. I also like to do research, and explore more in depth of the project, discover the meaning behind each element and every shape of the architecture. Beside from the course, I am part of Nanyang Polytechnic Chinese Orchestra(NYPCO). In NYPCO, I am also in charge to be the publicity, it requires me to design things such as posters, annual concert tickets, and others. Through the process, it helps me a lot to improve my photoshop application and learn the basic application of Adobe Indesign. In addition, it also helps to improve my appreciation for design and learning what makes a good design. Through the course work and my co-curricular activity, I have gained skills on time management, more ways in design applications and teamwork.

03-1

Sea butterfly

What is so interesting about Sea Butterfly is that they have the structure of a swirling shell and a huge ‘wing’ like foot. The wing is the key for them to propel forward in water. The movement of the wing is the structure mechanism of this whole creature. They have jelly-like body and larger wings than their body size, with a hard shell. They are essentially gelatinous, except for this shell. They can retract these wings into the shell when threatened.
