Es por esto que queremos agradecer la colaboración de los diseñadores, que nos han dado la oportunidad de enseñar lo que nunca habíamos mostrado, conocer las entrañas del diseño y disfrutar de una parte de su proceso creativo.
This year, we wanted to go a step further and demonstrate our creative process, both in terms of the design and the production of each one of our collections. That’s why we are grateful for our designers’ cooperation: they have allowed us to show something we had never shown before, to see the very heart of design, and to enjoy a part of their creative process.

Técnica hand tufted Proceso manual con ayuda de un artilugio a modo de pistola. Al accionarse empuja y después corta una porción de lana, introduciéndola en una base de tejido de algodón donde se ha marcado previamente el dibujo. La lana se sujeta a la base mediante látex. Admite diseños elaborados pero no curvilíneos de precisión. Hand tufted technique Manual method carried out with the aid of a pistol-like device. When actuated, it fires and then cuts a portion of the wool, inserting it into a cotton cloth base, on which the pattern has been previously marked. The wool is fixed to the base by means of latex. It allows elaborate designs but not precise curved ones.
Técnica hand knotted Proceso absolutamente manual en el que la lana se sujeta fuertemente a la base mediante un nudo. La forma de anudar, tipo de nudo y el grosor del mismo diferencian las distintas clases de alfombras hechas con este elaborado sistema manual. A mayor número de nudos, mayor es el valor y duración de la alfombra. Admite diseños complicados de todo tipo. Hand knotted technique The hand knotted system is a completely manual one, in which the wool is strongly attached to the base by means of a knot. The form of knotting, type of knot, and its thickness differentiate the different types of rugs made with this elaborate manual method. The value and durability of the rug increase in direct proportion to the number of knots employed. It allows all types of complicated designs.
Técnica hand loomed Manufactura en telar accionado manualmente. Consta de un dispositivo para introducir y extraer unas varillas que fijan la altura del pelo y también lo pueden cortar. Utiliza tres urdimbres y una trama que se ligan entre sí formando una estructura rígida y resistente que sujeta la lana. Permite el bucle y el pelo cortado. Sólo admite diseños simples. Hand loomed technique The hand loomed system uses a manually actuated loom. It consists of a device that allows the insertion and extraction of rods that fix the height of the pile, also allowing it to be cut. It uses three warps and one woof interconnected, forming a rigid and sturdy structure that holds the wool. It allows the production of both looped and cut pile. It only permits simple designs.

Materiales · Materials Técnica Kilim Manufactura manual en telar que mezcla colores vivos y de escaso grosor, y se caracteriza por crear motivos geométricos. Se trata de una técnica oriental originaria de Asia occidental. El resultado es un tejido sin pelo, anudado manualmente y con irregularidades ocasionadas por la torción del hilo de lana natural a mano. Originalmente los kilims los utilizaban los nómadas del desierto ya que creaban hogares sólo a partir de una alfombra de estas características. Más adelante, se empezaron a utilizar en los suelos y paredes de las tiendas, las casas o como cubiertas para los animales y el equipaje. Kilim technique This oriental technique, originally from West Asia, uses a manual loom to manufacture fabrics that mix bright, thin sections of colour to create distinctive geometric motifs. The result is a hair-free, hand-knotted fabric, with an unevenness caused by twisting the natural wool by hand. Kilims were originally used by desert nomads, who made their homes exclusively with this type of rug. They were subsequently used on the floors and walls of shops and houses, or to protect animals and belongings.

Por sus especiales características, la lana ofrece diversas ventajas: Como fibra natural, es absolutamente renovable, sostenible y no contaminante. De fácil limpieza y mantenimiento, sus propiedades antiestáticas actúan como repelente de la suciedad. En caso de fuego la llama se auto-extingue de forma rápida, por lo que se considera ignífuga y homologable con las normativas internacionales de inflamabilidad. Es resistente, duradera y el paso del tiempo la dignifica con un bello envejecimiento. Es un material dúctil cuyas fibras le confieren elasticidad y flexibilidad. Actúa como un buen aislante térmico y acústico. Por si misma no produce alergias.
Materials At nanimarquina, we are committed to using natural materials like cotton, jute and, especially, wool. Because of its special characteristics, wool offers numerous advantages: As a natural fibre, it is completely reusable, sustainable and does not cause pollution. It is easy to clean and look after, and its anti-static properties make it repel dirt. In the case of fire, the flame quickly self-extinguishes, for which reason wool is considered fire resistant and compatible with international flammability regulations. It is resistant, hardwearing and it ages gracefully. It is a ductile material whose fibres give it elasticity and flexibility. It acts as a good heat and sound insulator. Wool on its own does not cause allergies.

En esta colección hay dos aspectos que no pasan inadvertidos: su acabado vintage y una innovadora técnica artesanal creada expresamente para esta alfombra. Su diseño está inspirado en las alfombras antiguas, además, sus colores neutros y dibujos florales dan calidez a cualquier estancia. Por otro lado, la técnica de elaboración de esta colección, hand woven sumak, es el resultado de un gran trabajo e imaginación por parte de los tejedores indios. Nudo a nudo se va creando una pequeña trenza, que en su conjunto, adquiere un aspecto desgastado pero, sin embargo, con un resultado de gran calidad. Two aspects of this collection really stand out: its vintage look and an innovative artisan technique specially created for this product. Its design is inspired by antique rugs, and its neutral colours and floral patterns bring warmth to any room. The weaving technique used in this collection, known as hand knotted sumak, is the result of a great amount of work and imagination on the part of the Indian weavers. A thin braid is formed knot by knot, thus acquiring a distressed look, but at the same time producing a high-quality result.

Los hermanos Bouroullec siguen su investigación de la simplicidad y de la elegancia a través de la nueva colección Losanges. Se trata de la reinterpretación de la alfombra persa tradicional realizada con la técnica ancestral del kilim. De gran dificultad técnica, la colección Losanges requiere de una gran destreza ya que se trata de combinar 13 colores a través de la forma geométrica del rombo, un gran reto para los artesanos del norte de Pakistán. Además de estar confeccionada artesanalmente, la lana de origen afgana se hila a mano, lo que permite destacar unos colores de tonalidades únicas que hacen que cada rombo sea distinto y cada alfombra una pieza singular. The Bouroullec brothers continue their study of simplicity and elegance with their new Losanges collection. It’s about reinterpreting the traditional Persian rug using the ancient kilim technique. Technically complex, the Losanges collection requires great skill as it involves combining 13 colours through the geometrical rhombus shape, a great challenge for the craftsmen of Northern Pakistan. As well as being crafted by hand, the Afghan wool is also spun by hand, which allows for some unique colour tones to be highlighted which make each rhombus different and each rug a unique item.

Inspirada en las alfombras de antaño, esta colección, realizada mediante la técnica del kilim, recupera la esencia de la alfombra, tanto por su textura como por su uso. Para los nómadas del desierto, una casa se crea a partir de una alfombra, ya que originalmente las alfombras servían para proteger a las personas del suelo. Representaban un objeto de uso cotidiano que, además de aportar comodidad, delimitaban el espacio. Con el tiempo, la alfombra se ha convertido en un elemento decorativo y un vehículo de mensajes culturales. La colección Medina representa la transformación de la tradición en contemporaneidad. Su esencia clásica se consigue gracias a su producción artesanal en el norte de Pakistán mediante una técnica muy antigua y tradicional como es el kilim. Inspired by old fashioned rugs, this collection, carried out using the kilim technique, recovers the essence of the rug, both in its texture and in its use. For the desert nomads, a house is built on a rug, as rugs originally served to protect people from the ground. They represented an object of daily use, as well as providing comfort, they also defined the space. Over time, the rug has become a decorative element and a vehicle for cultural messages. The Medina collection represents the modern day transformation of tradition. Its classical essence is achieved thanks to its handcrafted production in the north of Pakistan using a very old and traditional technique; the kilim.

La alfombra African house nace de los fascinantes murales que realiza la tribu surafricana Besotho en el exterior de sus casas. Las mujeres de dicha etnia decoran las paredes adobadas de sus hogares con ornamentos vegetales y florales, inventando maravillosas alegorías decorativas. Son la expresión artística de las plegarias a sus antepasados, a quienes imploran lluvias, sol y paz. Esta colección acerca la simbología cultural de dichos indígenas, trasladando sus exóticos motivos exteriores al interior de nuestras casas, aportando cierto aire étnico. El relieve sobre la alfombra de lana reproduce el tratamiento del barro de sus murales, en tonos ocres, tierra y arena.
The African house rug has its origins in the fascinating murals made by members of the South African Besotho tribe on the outside of their houses. Besotho women decorate the adobe walls of their homes with plant and flower ornaments, inventing stunning decorative allegories. They are artistic expressions of prayers to their ancestors, to whom they pray for rain, sun and peace. This collection brings us the cultural symbology of this tribe, bringing their exotic exterior motifs to the interior of our homes, giving a certain ethnic touch. The relief on the wool rug reproduces the mud treatment in their murals, in ochre, earth and sand tones.

La sencillez de un trazo circular e irregular define la forma de cada diseño, delimitando un centro y un perímetro que no llegan nunca a ser exactos ni simétricos. La serie Aros incluye tres modelos redondos, en tres colores y dos medidas diferentes, y una versión cuadrada, en la que el círculo se traza en el interior. En todos los casos, la sutil asimetría invita a liberarnos de usos convencionales, haciendo posible la combinación de más de una pieza para crear volúmenes inéditos en un mismo espacio. The simplicity of an irregular, circular outline defines the form of each design, delimiting a centre and a perimeter that will never be exact or symmetrical. The Aros series includes three round models, in two different colours and sizes, and a square version in which the circle is outlined in the interior. The subtle asymmetry in each design invites freedom from conventional uses, making it possible to combine more than one piece to create new volumes in a single space.

Además de comportar toda una declaración de intenciones, partiendo de la conciencia por la utilización de productos reciclados, significa un punto transgresor para los espacios actuales más vanguardistas. Este diseño nace de un trabajo de investigación sobre la posibilidad de usar goma reciclada para crear nuevas texturas. En uno de los viajes a India surgió la solución: utilizar las cámaras de los neumáticos de bicicleta, su medio de transporte más común. El resultado: un elemento conceptual, sostenible, inédito. La nueva base permite situarla tanto en el exterior como interior de una casa. Made using 100% recycled material, this exclusive rug champions caring for the environment. In addition to being a declaration of intentions by raising awareness about using recycled products, it represents a point of transgression for today’s most avantgarde spaces. This design was born through researching the possibility of using recycled rubber to create new textures. The solution arose during a journey to India: using inner tubes from bicycle tyres, the most common mode of transportation there. The result: a conceptual, sustainable, new element. The new base allows both indoor and outdoor use.

El boceto original de esta pieza es una pintura de acuarela sobre papel que realizó Mariscal en el año 87. Su diseño definitivo logra transmitir un concepto básico de esquematización de la alfombra clásica persa. Cogiendo dicho punto de partida, lo actualiza sirviéndose de un trazo particular próximo al cómic, sintetizando en un solo producto Oriente y Occidente, artesanía tradicional y diseño contemporáneo. The original model for this piece was a watercolour painted by Mariscal in 1987. Its final design conveys the basic outline of the classic Persian rug. Using this as its point of departure, it is updated using unique lines reminiscent of those used in comics, synthesising East and West, traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design in just one product.
Tomando como referente un cuadro de Picasso, la diseñadora de moda llena de flores de trazos esenciales la superficie blanca. Tallos, pétalos y demás ramificaciones, en negro, se entrelazan formando un tapiz elemental. En la línea del arte abstracto, esta obra implica un pulso entre feminidad y dureza, imprecisión y simplicidad. Using a Picasso painting as a reference point, the fashion designer fills the white space with the essential features of flowers. Black stems, petals and the other stalks are interlaced, forming an elemental tapestry. In the line of abstract art, this work implies a rhythm between femininity and toughness, imprecision and simplicity
Limbo era una galería-bar de Nueva York donde el autor de esta pieza escuchaba música, bebía cerveza y colgaba sus cuadros, soñando con la fama. Como recuerdohomenaje a ese lugar tan especial, Armenter bautiza a esta pieza, cuyo trasfondo del dibujo es un tipo de mandala cosmopolita, con este sugerente nombre. Se trata de una escalera o espiral hacia el centro o meta, inspirada en la composición del juego de la oca, el cual depende mucho del azar. Por eso dicen que esta alfombra atrae la suerte. Limbo was a gallery/bar in New York where the creator of this piece used to listen to music, drink beer and hang his paintings, dreaming of fame. As a memory-cum-homage to that very special place, Armenter has given this piece, which is based around a type of cosmopolitan mandala, this evocative name. It features a staircase or spiral towards the centre or goal, inspired by the game of snakes and ladders, where much depends on chance. That’s why it is said that this rug brings luck.
En 1991, Joaquim Ruiz Millet empieza una novela que acabará al cabo de cinco años. Durante el período de gestación de su obra, una página del manuscrito inédito da lugar a una serie de objetos, como esta alfombra de caracteres espigados que traslada el plano de las manos al de los pies. Ampliándolo, convierte en abstracto lo originario. In 1991, Joaquim Ruiz Millet started a novel that he would finish five years later. During his work’s gestation period, a page of the unpublished manuscript gave rise to a series of objects, such as this rug, with spindly characters that move the work plane from hands to feet. Expanding it, the original becomes the abstract.

Inspiradas en las famosas piezas de los juguetes móviles colgantes del escultor estadounidense Alexander Calder, estas alfombras irregulares de lana se conciben para convivir entre ellas, formando atractivas combinaciones. La colección parte de la serie Zoom de nanimarquina, aunque con medidas y lanas distintas. Existen tres modelos y cada uno de ellos se encuentra en dos colores, posibilitando uniones dinámicas alternando tonos cálidos con fríos. Todo un homenaje al precursor del arte cinético, que transmite la esencia de movimiento sobre el suelo.

Inspired by the famous hanging mobiles of American sculptor Alexander Calder, these irregular wool rugs are conceived to live amongst each other, forming attractive combinations. This collection is part of nanimarquina’s Zoom series, although it makes use of different sizes and wools. There are three models and each can be found in two colours, making it possible to have dynamic unions that alternate warm and cold tones. A tribute to the pioneer of kinetic art, conveying the essence of movement on the floor. 67

En una de sus innumerables visitas a sus colaboradores indios, observando un muestrario de fibras de lana agrupado por tonos, Nani Marquina visualiza el embrión del que es uno de los diseños más emblemáticos de la firma y, posiblemente, el que ella misma escogería si se le obligara a decidir cuál es el hijo que más quiere: Cuadros. Veinte colores formando un damero mágico de cromatismo vibrante que crean una rítmica sensación de movimiento. Este diseño nacido de una combinación de tonos aparentemente casual, en realidad sigue una secuencia lineal muy concreta. Una melodía decorativa. In one of many visits to her Indian collaborators, when observing a sample of wool fibres grouped by tones, Nani Marquina visualised the embryo of one of the firm’s most emblematic designs, and, possibly, the design that she herself would choose if she had to choose which child she loved most: Cuadros. Twenty colours forming a magic checkerboard of vibrant colours that create a rhythmic sensation of movement. El artista gráfico que firma esta colección basa su obra en el trabajo de descomposición del color a través del píxel, técnica que ha aplicado en el diseño de sofás, cojines, camisas… Ahora plasma su especial visión en estos dos modelos de alfombra, de lana anudada a mano, una en colores vibrantes, otra en tonos más pausados. En ambos casos se parte de la superampliación fotográfica, dando un aspecto digital y tecnológico a las piezas. Depende de la luz o del momento, la mirada capta la unión aleatoria de una parte de los 26 colores que forman la alfombra, creando siempre agrupaciones sorprendentes para la vista; efectos ópticos realmente impactantes.

El colectivo mexicano Nel nos descubrió la posibilidad de realizar un proyecto nada convencional para difundir un mensaje directo: la invitación a la reflexión sobre el mundo actual y su estado de emergencia. El nombre lo dice todo, calentamiento global, representado en la soledad de un pequeño oso polar, en tres dimensiones, desprotegido sobre un bloque de hielo a la deriva, en medio de la inmensidad del mar. Es una propuesta a la esperanza, la ilusión de un futuro mejor, un mundo posible.

This collection acts as a platform for communication, embodying its own clear message from our times. The Mexican Nel Collective discovered the possibility of realising a non-conventional project to spread a direct message, an invitation to reflect about the current world and its state of emergency. The name says it all: global warming, represented in the solitude of one small polar bear in three dimensions, unprotected and adrift on a block of ice, in the middle of an immense sea. It is an offering of hope, the hope for a better future, a world that is possible.

Roses nace del continuo proceso de investigación de los sistemas artesanales y de la búsqueda de una estética innovadora, con el fin de dar un aspecto sorprendente e insólito a un producto realizado a través de técnicas tradicionales. Las piezas de fieltro de forma regular que caracterizan a esta alfombra le aportan volumen y movimiento continuo a su superficie, invitando a ser tocada, acariciada, vivida. Disponible en cinco cálidos colores, su tonalidad no resulta uniforme sino que se llena de matices y claroscuros cuando se toca con las manos o se camina sobre ella. Roses is born from the constant process of researching handcrafted systems and searching for innovative aesthetics, with the aim of giving a new and surprising look to a product made using traditional methods. The evenly-shaped pieces of felt that characterise this rug give its surface volume and constant movement, inviting it to be touched, caressed, lived. Available in five warm colours, its shades are not uniform but rather filled with nuance and chiaroscuro when you touch it with your hands or walk on it.

Artesanal, serena, natural. Son algunos de los valores que se aprecian a simple vista en esta colección, en la que la materia –la lana– es la clara protagonista. El secreto de su acabado tan especial es la innovadora técnica de su fabricación, hecha totalmente a mano. Las espirales que se superponen se consiguen enroscando los hilos de lana afelpada, hervida, sin torsión, algo que la hace más compacta. Una vez confeccionadas, se cosen una a una sobre una base de tela, con puntadas visibles. Esto convierte a cada pieza en única, en dos colores disponibles: marrón o crudo. Un retorno a los orígenes, con una imagen que se rinde a la evidencia. Handmade, serene, natural. These are some of the values that can be appreciated with a simple glance at this collection, where the material — wool — is the clear protagonist. The secret of its special finish is the technical innovation behind its manufacture: made totally by hand. The superimposed spirals curl up around the boiled, felt wool without twisting, which makes it more compact. Once made, these are sewn one by one onto a cloth base with visible stitches. This makes the piece unique, available in two colours: brown or ecru. A return to basics, with an image that provides the evidence.

Their earth tones adapt to any decorative style, bucking trends and clinging to the most basic things in our world.

El tratamiento del color “made in Sybilla” se plasma en estas dos piezas de su colección para nanimarquina. La diseñadora de moda propone un paseo por el firmamento del color; un mundo particular que refleja fuerza y estilo. En esta pasarela se disfruta de dos modelos exclusivos, uno circular, cuyas franjas de diferentes colores siguen concéntricamente en distintos grosores la marca de su contorno; y otro rectangular, en el cual se dibuja un mosaico próximo al Op-art. Los nombres que dan título a ambas versiones reflejan las semejanzas de las piezas con una diana, por un lado, y con el mosaico, por el otro. The “made in Sybilla” colour treatment is embodied in these two pieces from her collection for nanimarquina. The fashion designer proposes a walk through a sky of colour, a unique world that reflects intensity and style. This catwalk features two exclusive models: one circular, whose different coloured stripes in different thicknesses mark its outline, and the other rectangular, featuring an op-art mosaic design. The names given to these versions reflect the similarities of the pieces to a diana (bullseye) on the one hand, and a mosaic on the other.

Con este nuevo proyecto nanimarquina no sólo viste los suelos sino también las paredes, proponiendo una serie de cabeceros para camas que decoran el muro del dormitorio con las mismas claves de diseño innovador, fabricación artesanal y materiales nobles que en el resto de productos de la firma. Esta serie se compone de tres modelos, los cuales imprimen un carácter íntimo y acogedor en la zona de noche. Todos se sustentan sobre un soporte, diseñado por Gonzalo Milà, cuyo sistema es tan simple como efectivo: un fino rail de aluminio anodizado que se adhiere al muro y sobre el que se coloca el cabecero textil.

This new nanimarquina project not only covers the floors but the walls as well, proposing a series of headboards for beds and decorating the wall of the bedroom with the same keys of innovative design, craftsmanship and fine materials as in the rest of the brand’s products. This series comprises three models, which leave an intimate and welcoming mark on the sleeping area. They are all held up on a support, designed by Gonzalo Milà, whose system is as simple as it is effective: a fine, anodised aluminium rail that is attached to the wall and upon which the textile headboard is placed.

Personalización de proyectos · Project customising Tras participar en varios proyectos de gran envergadura, hemos desarrollado nuevas metodologías de trabajo en el canal contract. En el catálogo Custom Design presentamos el proceso de dichos proyectos, desde el diseño y manufacturación hasta el montaje final; trabajos en los que resulta imprescindible la participación de colaboradores, prescriptores, arquitectos, creadores, artesanos, fabricantes, montadores y nuestro equipo interno de diseño y producción, coordinado y supervisado por la propia Nani Marquina. Nuestros valores son el conocimiento y la experiencia que avalan más de 20 años creando alfombras.
After participating in a number of largescale projects, we have developed new work methodologies in the contract channel. In Custom Design catalogue, we present the process behind these projects, from the design and manufacture to the final assembly; tasks in which the participation of collaborators, project sponsors, architects, creators, craftspeople, manufacturers, fitters and our own in-house design and production team has been essential, all coordinated and supervised by Nani Marquina herself. Our values reside in the knowledge and experience backed up by over 20 years creating rugs.

Desde 1994, Care & Fair lucha contra el trabajo infantil impulsando acciones de formación destinadas a los niños y niñas de las regiones productoras de alfombras en India, Pakistán y Nepal.
Care & Fair has been fighting against child labour since 1994, promoting training activities aimed at children in the rug manufacturing regions of India, Pakistan and Nepal.
Actualmente, 450 empresas del sector participan en Care & Fair, entre ellas nanimarquina. En conjunto, destinan el 1% del valor de sus importaciones de alfombras a financiar las escuelas, acciones de formación, hospitales y programas de salud que Care & Fair desarrolla en los mencionados países. Todas las alfombras nanimarquina fabricadas en India llevan el distintivo Care & Fair, que garantiza una manufactura sin intervención de mano de obra infantil.

Querer diseñar alfombras La trayectoria de nanimarquina se reconoce en una idea muy clara: querer diseñar alfombras. Un enunciado sencillo, una declaración de intenciones transparente que se hace realidad poniendo en juego valores como la observación, el esfuerzo innovador, la emoción y el saber llevar las tradiciones artesanales a la contemporaneidad.
La marca sigue colaborando junto a diseñadores reconocidos. Nombres como Javier Mariscal, Ron Arad, Tord Boontje, Ana Mir, Emili Padrós, Martí Guixé, Martín Azúa, Gerard Moliné, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec o Oscar Tusquets han aportado su creatividad a las distintas colecciones nanimarquina, que se venden en más de 45 países.
The passion for designing rugs The development of nanimarquina has been based on a very clear idea: the passion for designing rugs. A simple principle, a transparent assertion of intentions that becomes reality by combining values such as observation, innovative effort, enthusiasm and the ability to carry craft traditions through to the 21st century.
Desde sus inicios en el año 1987, nanimarquina diseña alfombras y productos textiles poniendo especial atención en la investigación de materias primas y de procesos de elaboración. Estos factores enriquecen la vertiente estética de los productos, protagonista esencial de la visibilidad y el éxito comercial de la marca.
La década del 2000 es la época de consolidación y de los reconocimientos a los productos, a la empresa y a la iniciativa emprendedora de Nani Marquina. Entre los premios obtenidos destacan el Red Dot Design Award por la alfombra Topissimo y las menciones especiales de los Premios Delta por los modelos Cuks y Flying Carpet, todos en el 2003. El momento culminante llega en el 2005, con el Premio Nacional de Diseño y el Premi Cambra a la Gestió Empresarial. En el 2007 la empresa recibe la nominación a los Premios Príncipe Felipe a la Excelencia empresarial y en el 2008 recibe el Premio Nacional de Cultura de la Generalitat de Catalunya en la modalidad Diseño. Además, la alfombra Little field of flowers obtiene un Red Dot Award y el Elle Deco Internacional Design Award. Recientemente, Nani Marquina recibe el International Women Entrepreneurial Award de la Cámara de Comercio de Manhattan, un galardón personal que se suma al Premio FIDEM a la Mujer Emprendedora del 2007.
Since it began in 1987, nanimarquina has been designing rugs and textile products paying by special attention to the research of raw materials and manufacturing processes. These factors enrich the aesthetics of the products, the main reason behind the brand’s renowned and commercial success.
El recorrido por la historia de la empresa empieza en unas primeras alfombras que participaban del gusto cromático y geométrico propio de los años 80. Diseñadas por la misma Nani Marquina, fueron muy bien recibidas y confirmaron el acierto del concepto de alfombra de autor. En seguida se encargó el diseño de nuevos productos a distintos creadores de prestigio, como Mariscal, Peret o Eduard Samsó. Asimismo, nació la idea de colección: series de alfombras con variaciones de medida y color. El éxito de todas estas propuestas impulsó la presencia de la marca en los mercados internacionales. Años más tarde, llega uno de los grandes hitos de la empresa: el inicio de la producción en el norte de India. Desde entonces la artesanía se convierte en el rasgo diferencial de nanimarquina, el valor que permite explorar nuevos caminos de producción y nuevas oportunidades de identificación con los consumidores. El trabajo conjunto con prácticas artesanales de todo el mundo otorga a las alfombras un carácter único, en el que la sensibilidad se une al espíritu de fusión y en el que el tacto humano, cálido y cercano, gana fuerza contemporánea.

The history of the company started with the first few rugs, which featured popular colours and geometric designs of the 1980s. Designed by Nani Marquina herself, they were very well received and confirmed the success of the idea of making designer rugs. The company was then immediately asked to design new products for various prestigious designers such as Mariscal, Peret and Eduard Samsó. Furthermore, the collection concept was born: a series of rugs varying in size and colour. The success of all these ideas boosted the brand’s presence in the international market. Years later, the company achieved one of its greatest milestones: it started to manufacture rugs in north India. Since then, craftsmanship has become the differentiating factor of nanimarquina, the value that enabled it to explore new manufacturing methods and new ways of identifying with consumers. Working with craft techniques from all over the world imbues the rugs with a unique character, where sensitivity mixes with fusion and where the human touch, warm and close gains a contemporary strength.
The brand continues to collaborate with wellknown designers. Names such as Javier Mariscal, Ron Arad, Tord Boontje, Ana Mir, Emili Padrós, Martí Guixé, Martín Azúa, Gerard Moliné, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec o Oscar Tusquets have contributed their creativity to the different nanimarquina collections, which are sold in more than 45 countries. The decade of 2000 was when Nani Marquina’s products, the company and her business initiative were consolidated and recognised. The Red Dot Design Award for the Topissimo rug and the special mention at the Delta Awards for the Cuks and Flying Carpet models are among the most outstanding prizes the company won in 2003.
