The Damaged

In this old leather bike jacket, there are lots of injuries, such as the ruined leather, the broken zipper and the lining. The leather of the front part has already broken.

The zipper of the sleeves has already broken.

The leather of the front part has already broken.

There are several stains in the lining.

There is a big hole in the right-front lining . There are also some stains and holes in the red cottoned lining .

step

ONE

In order to repair the broken leather, the stained lining, I started from unpicking the two front part and the sleeves of the bike jacket.

UnPicking

Remove the right-front lining because it’s broken.

Keep the left-front lining.

After the unpicking process, I got rid of the ruin parts and got the pattern of the original bike jacket.

The right-front and the left-front pattern.

As I got the sleeves and the front part out, I could use the shape to cut the new ďŹ t pattern.

step

TWO

The leather of the sleeves and the two front patterns.

ReCutting As I got the sleeves and the front part out, I could use the shape to cut the new ďŹ t pattern. In order to ďŹ nd enough space to cut the fronts, I recombined the fabric of the removed sleeves and place the old front pattern on them to match the pattern shape. As for the right-front lining part, I cut the original lining pattern from the lining of the sleeves.

The left-front leather

I cut the original lining pattern from the lining of the sleeves for the right-front lining part, and then cut the left-front leather fabric to ďŹ t the welt.

step

THREE

Fixing I cut some diamond-shaped leather pattern from the rest leather fabric to cover the stains on the lining.

The reason of choosing the diamond shape is that it can ďŹ t the diamond pattern of the lining. To match the leather diamond on the left side, I also put some leather diamond on the right side.

step

THREE

Replacement Because the front zipper has already been broken, I chose to replace the function of the zipper with four pairs of magnet button.

The four pairs of magnet buttons are placed on the front pattern, and I’ve made sure that the zipper will match with each side when the magnet buttons are attached.

School Trousers

GOAL: to make it comfortable for women to ride a bike

This pair of trousers is made from school uniform fabric and it will cause the wearer to feel itch because of the fabric, and this kind of fabric is not exible. As for the pattern, it has a high and tiny waistline and the wide legging. As the project goal is to make this pair of trousers for women to wear riding a bike, I start from thinking the way how women ride a bike, and try to imitate the motion.

step

ONE

Experiment As the project goal is to make this pair of trousers for women to wear riding a bike, I start from thinking the way how women ride a bike, and try to imitate the motion.

I put on the trousers, imitate the motion of riding a bike and ďŹ nd that it is difficult to bend my knees because the fabric can not extend, it is not exible.

I mark the place of my knee and the extension part on the trousers when I bend my knee.

step

THREE

Matching In order to match the squire of the bending knee part, I cut the rest of the legging in the same length (plus the 2cm seam length) as the wideness of the squire to get the fabric.

25 + 2 cm

With the rest fabric from the legging, I need to make them unpicked.

And I need to iron them to make them totally at.

step

THREE

Testing I try two different ways of folding with the at fabric to test the function and the appearance.

The Box-Fold.

The Single-fold.

The Single-fold. In the end, I choose the single-fold because it can easily be opened and refolded, and it looks better.

step

FOUR

Attaching

Before attaching the single-fold to the trousers, I cut four gaps around the four corners of the square to make it easier to attach the fabric.

The single-folds should be stable by sewing up the side before attaching to the trousers.

step

FIVE

Narrowing After I attach the single-fold to the trousers, I ďŹ nd that the legging it too wide, so I decide to narrow the legging a little bit.
