CONCEPT
The design concept is that events often fall from our memories and land at a certain place, and the beauty of destruction is more dazzling than the beauty of the essence itself. The image of Kinkaku-ji Temple being burned down is transformed into the fabric itself, and the damaged beauty shines through the interweaving of gold and silver threads.

INSPIRATION
The inspiration comes from my favorite Japanese writer, Yukio Mishima's book, "Kinkaku-ji Temple," which is based on the true story of a young monk who burned down the Temple. The suspect reportedly said, "I envied the beauty of Kinkaku-ji Temple, so I burned it down." From the easily destroyable image of humanity, the eternal illusion emerges, and from the indestructible beauty of Kinkaku-ji Temple, the possibility of destruction floats.

By depicting the process of a monk setting fire to the temple in the book, starting from the back mountain of the temple and spreading to the temple, with its colorful and extremely destructive beauty, I used this image to simulate the path and fluctuations of flames burning on a knitted fabric.

Social Media Butterfly Effect
In today’s rapidly changing society, people's lives are filled with an explosion of information, leading to a scattered attention span and an endless cycle of browsing, resulting in a floating set of values, anxiety, a sense of insecurity, and mistrust in anything, and feeling lost in the digital world without a sense of direction for the future. The term "digital butterfly" describes how modern people, like butterflies, present the brightest and most dazzling version of themselves in the digital world. However, in reality, they move forward with a disorienting sense of direction, lost in the cycle of scattered attention and endless browsing.
CONCEPT
DESIGN BACKGROUND
In the Liquid Modernity driven by "postmodernism," "the internet," and "algorithms," the characteristics of diversity, rapid flow, and decentralization have made modern people more eager to explore multiple identities and pursue a frenzy of self-identification. This wave of thought and fashion culture interact and collide, evolving into a phenomenon that seems like a "butterfly ecology roaming between social media," called the "digital butterfly effect."
Therefore I started collecting loads of social media posts from platforms such as Instagram, Tinder, Pinterest, etc., using a large number of pictures and message window screens, particularly featuring influencers and portrait photos, as pattern designs.

The irregular flight path of butterflies, like modern people getting lost in the endless world of browsing the internet, researched the popular fashion styles of current internet celebrities and combine twisted silhouettes into the collection.

In order to present a texture effect of noise and grain on fabric, I looked for many textured fabrics to do digital printing experiments and finally chose a cotton fabric with bamboo texture, creased nylon fabric, grid woven fabric, and sequins as my series of fabrics.

In Eastern cultures, it is common for people to evaluate an individual's social status based on their level of education.

This phenomenon has also led to a proliferation of diplomas, with people valuing a beautiful educational background as a badge of success for entry into the hall of success. In this diploma society, we constantly have to survive under the exam system, with a large number of multiple-choice questions that infuse already rigid thoughts and continually expand within us, gradually losing ourselves in an environment of suppression and order. Ultimately, this leads to the formation of “ Elite Monsters ”.

CONCEPT
The inspiration for this comes from a serious car accident I had on my way home from work, which resulted in a compression fracture of the spine that required surgery to insert pins and screws near the spine and wear a frame for several months to support my body. This process made me feel like an animal in a circus, subjected to external forces that forcibly changed me in an attempt to present a perfect version of myself.
RESEARCH
I began researching the freak shows in the United States from the 1840s to the 1970s and found some interesting character settings and incorporated elements of the pins and ropes used during surgery into the design.
