Live Music at Kimchi Sounds
Pet Sounds has launched a new project on the second floor of its building. As the name suggests, Kimchi Sounds delivers a distinctly Korean flavor of music with a lineup of live artists instead of DJ’d tracks like its older sibling. The new music venue had its grand opening in the first week of June with a show featuring the music of Wedance and Goonam Gua Yeonridingstella. While Kimchi Sounds was originally slated to host a few bands during HBC Fest, a few problems pushed the performances upstairs into Pet Sounds. It is now officially open for business. Sandy Fortune and his better half Song Seungmin have decided to pack it in after the recent birth of their son in December. Suji’s All-Day Brunch Suji’s Deli will be rolling out a few new brunch items to supplement their already extensive menu. For starters, the new Roast Beef Bagel Sandwich has roast beef, cream cheese, caramelized onions and horseradish sauce served on a toasted bagel and with a salad. Next the open-face Toaskagen Sandwich brings together shrimp, boiled eggs, onion, dill, whole grain mustard and mayo with sliced tomatoes on toast with a side of fries. Finally, the Brunch Pot is a stew of sausage, bacon, beans, potato, paprika, mushroom, garlic and tomato with two poached eggs on top and toast on the side. The brunch menu will be served all-day. TuCan’s Summer Sweets To make the most of their outdoor patio, TuCan will be serving up some cool and refreshing cholado during the summer season. For those that don’t know, cholado is a traditional Colombian dessert made up of chopped fruit, shaved ice, and syrup with condensed milk for sweetness. Think of it as a south american “bingsu” if you’re still having trouble picturing it. “Hendrix” Gin and Tonic at Pet Sounds Perhaps it’s a clever nod to the music legend in keeping with Pet Sounds’ homage to rock n’ roll, or maybe it’s simply a menu typo of “Hendrick’s,” the special brand of premium gin used in the cocktail. Hendrick’s Gin, widely lauded by spirit critics and casual drinkers alike, is unique in its infusion of rose and cucumber (check out their website to learn their story and for a real visual treat). Combine that with a splash of tonic water and fresh shaved cucumber to enhance its flavors, and you’ve got a refreshingly crisp cocktail perfect for ushering in the summer. 락앤롤에 대한 오마주이기도한 칵테일 "핸드릭스"는 최고급 진 브랜드의 이름에서 따온 것 입니다. 핸드릭스의 진은 비평가들과 애주가들에게 극찬을 받은 장미와 오이로 우려낸 특별한 진입니 다 (더 자세한 내용은 홈페이지를 참조해 주시길 바랍니다). 탄산수에 얇게 썰린 오이가 곁드려 진 이 진은 여름에 즐길 수 있는 최고의 칵테일 입니다.

Cosmos IPA by the Flavia Brewing Co.
Aroma: Up front I get some strong grapefruit notes followed by a little side car of lime. The hops dominate the nose from beginning to end. Balanced? No, but I like this from my American IPAs. Appearance: A hazy, deep orange meets ruby red hue with a subtle white head that persists until the last sip which, if you’re like me, you’re not leaving behind in the glass; every last drop counts. Flavor: Up front I get bitter, much more bitter then you would expect from this level of IBUs. Once you get past the first sip, you get that lovely grapefruit aroma duplicated in the mid-pallet and sides of the tongue (as well as the lime on the sides). The subtle jolly rancher sweetness on the follow through gives you a hint of the malt presence as well as the subtle biscuit note that comes through as it warms -- once again, dominated by the hops. Mouthfeel: Surprisingly heavy upfront with a light finish. The heavy upfront could be a result of the highly effervescent nature of this beer. Overall Impression: HOPS, hell yeah. Great interpretation of an American IPA for my pallet considering the 30 IBUs this beer has. There is a faint hint of malt as it warms but this is certainly a hop-dominated IPA. I give it two thumps up. The great thing about beer is that each individual tastes something different.
