Braai Republic is another terrific specimen of what makes Itaewon special.

Two comrades from the homeland become friends and fret about how difficult it is to experience the wonderful flavors from home and how the nativemade counterparts just don’t live up.

CHICKEN GALBI 닭갈비

A Korean favorite, Ddakgalbi is spicy seasoned boneless chicken, stir-fried in a large skillet with other ingredients such as sweet potato, cabbage, and rice cakes. Named after its place of origin,Chuncheon, it was first created when a restaurant owner had difficulty finding meat, and thus used chicken instead to create a dish similar to spicy stir-fried pork. 한국의 대표적인 볶음 요리로, 토막낸 닭을 고추장, 간장, 마늘 등으로 만든 양념에 재웠다가 고구마, 당근, 양배추, 떡 등의 재료와 함께 철판에 볶아 먹 는 요리이다. 1960년대에 강원도 춘천에서 돼지고기 로 영업을 하던 업주가 어느날 고기를 구하기가 어 려워 닭 2마리를 토막내 돼지갈비처럼 만든 것이 그 시작으로 지역명을 따서 춘천 닭갈비라고도 불린다.
