Mount Adams Gastronomic institute The historic neighborhood of Mount Adams is directly adjacent to and perched above Cincinnati, Ohio’s central business district. The program calls for a School for Culinary Arts with a Dinner Theater on site that will host guest performances and give the students of the institute experience catering and serving large events. Boasting one of the best views of the the city from the east, this site offers much to work with, and these forces are the basis of the building’s arrangement.
1. Function and support spaces for both the school and the theater are laid out in an eschalon formation to maximize views of the vista from all portions.
2. These zones are then divided into specific spaces, and as a result begin to interact and overlap physically as well as programatically.
3. Spaces and zones are further organized after considering circulation inside and around the building.
4. Arcs and lines drawn from existing site conditions such as the hillside slope, existing streets, and the arrangement of the city, array the building and exaggerate the vista westward.

Synaptics: New York High Line City streets are zones for living, working, and leisure by means of exhibition, and are the only parts of the urban environment that truly convey the relationships and mechanics of a proper city. Architecture acts merely as infill to this system, Stolidly standing by while circuits buzz and flash outside. By engaging synapse of place and transmission of program, this construct creates the same mechanics on a human scale as a city street circuit or the human brain. Through aggregation of a spectrum of program, it hopes to alleviate the mind from the bewildering nature of urban life.
A collage created by copy/pasting 2D elements of other Manhattan buildings served as the basis for creating one unit to serve all the functions of an urban environment.

Kroger lifestyle center [The Future of Digital Grocery] The Kroger Company sponsored a studio focusing on future scenarios in which developments in digital technology change the fundamentals of what a grocery store is. Potential futures were extrapolated from research and contemporary case studies. This led to designing systems and stores that respond to the grocery store’s evolving position and responsibilities within communities.

Construction photo of the aquarium building at OdySea in the Desert. The master plan includes 40 acres of retail and entertainment all anchored around this attraction.

Paradise Earth, a proposal for an indoor jungle and education center about the Amazon.
Since September of 2014, I’ve worked as a design drafter at Deutsch Architecture Group, a firm that has been a cornerstone in the commercial and industrial markets in the Phoenix area for decades. In this role, I work with clients, contractors, and project managers to develop project designs, create visualizations of project proposals, and produce and issue design and construction documents. Major projects I’ve been involved with here include the OdySea in the Desert aquarium and master plan, a proposal for a new 60,000 sqaure-foot avairy and exhibit about the Amazon Rainforest, and a complete exterior renovation of an existing 200,000 square-foot office building.
OdySea in the Desert is a project of enourmous scope and complexity. It has been in the works at Duetsch Architeture Group for the past three years. The attraction opened to the public in August 2016. Situated on land belonging to the Salt River, Pima, and Maricopa Indian Community, the project offered a unique experience in creating solution that satisfied both the development team and the Indian Community’s stringent cultural guidelines. Visitors will move to each level via acrylic tunnels while viewing some of
the most fascinating animals from rivers and oceans around the world. In a separate area, guests can get into a pool themselves for a hands-on dolphin experience. On this project I was part of the graphics and drafting team, producing rendered images for client use and publications, as well as working on the construction document set. Upon opening, the OdySea aquarium will be the largest aquarium in the American southwest.

Paradise Earth is a proposal for a 100,000 square foot facility with a 60,000 square foot, 80’ high central exhibit area that will be an indoor Amazon Rainforest. The exhibit houses live plants, birds, fish, and some animals that are indigenous to the jungles of South America. At the center of the massive atrium is the Tree of Life, an enormous themed tree that houses the central part of the roof structure and two elevator shafts. A juice bar is hidden in its branches 48’ above the ground. Two theaters with live shows, a dry exhibit, gift shop, and a restaurant are a part of the attraction as well. Currently in the schematic design phase, this project is still undergoing major develpment of the design and program.

Proposed building elevations for 1515 W. 14th Street 1515 West 14th Street The existing building from the 1970s was built as a call center. It is a massive (200,000+ square feet) single story building housing a sea of cubicles with very little natural light, clad in 40-year-old concrete stucco that is spalling off in large flakes. We were asked by the owners to give the building a face lift and make it appealing to more modernized business tenants. We started by adding windows on all sides of the building, and adding canopies to the corner parapets to begin to break up the monotonous, flat elevation of the building. We also reminagined the circulation from the site into the building, creating a central entry point and designating pedestrian areas on the site.
