Press release One tool fits all – Konica Minolta’s new Universal Print Driver Langenhagen, Germany, July 2009 Konica Minolta announces its new Universal Print Driver (UPD), released in July, a single printer driver for all Konica Minolta and other brands devices compatible with PCL6 or PostScript. This powerful tool is the perfect door opener to reach more efficiency in each integrated work area of small, middle and also large offices. With a single user interface (UI) Konica Minolta’s UPD offers various benefits for both IT administrators and users.

“By implementing our Universal Print Driver UPD, IT experts can significantly reduce administration time and costs,” says Minoru Fukushima, Product Planning Manager at Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe. “Until today they had to install drivers for each product. UPD not only eliminates these installation marathons but also makes complex function testing unnecessary as the driver’s core is the same for every integrated printer.”

Besides these IT administrator benefits, Konica Minolta’s UPD also serves users with multiple printers. For all their demands this single printer driver is more than a match. It automatically detects network printers and displays a list from which users can select the device to be used. Operators also can easily configure new multifunctional devices (MFPs) and printers connected to the office environment.

The new Konica Minolta printer driver means more convenience. Due to the UPD’s common UI, users no longer need to learn the functions of several interfaces to guarantee smooth operation of their devices. The UI offers full functionality including layout, finishing and quality for pre-installed printers. The clue is that all basic functions like paper size and print type can be applied for all devices – without installing specified drivers.

A further key feature of Konica Minolta’s Universal Print Driver is a specific search filter enabling the user to search by feature set. If an operator needs to print a high quality colour A3 double-sided sheet for example, he simply chooses the corresponding attributes, like colour, A3 and double-sided output, in the search mask. The filter then shows all matching devices. For enhanced print job handling, detailed information such as print speed or printer location is shown in the search results.

“Our UPD really makes things easier and straightforward,” adds Minoru Fukushima. “Fast access to print settings is assured. The UPD’s printer history displays recently utilised devices on top screen. In addition, users can choose from a range of easy options, such as making the printer driver connects automatically to the last printer used or creating printer icons. These are independent features that users can select or deselect as required. This tool definitely provides users and IT administrators with a maximum of control and comfort in daily printing.”
