Press release BLI: Universal Print Driver is “Outstanding” Langenhagen, Germany, October 2011 Buyers Laboratory (BLI) has conferred an Outstanding Achievement Award in Innovation on Konica Minolta for its Universal Print Driver (UPD). UPD allows users to print to a variety of Konica Minolta printers and multifunctional peripherals (MFPs) and to third-party devices from a common user interface. The well-known provider of image information products earned the accolade in the context of the recent summer 2011 Pick Awards. In the review, BLI recognises OEMs that have demonstrated unique and laudable advances in imaging devices and solutions. “Receiving BLI’s Outstanding Achievement award for our UPD is a wonderful acknowledgment of our software development efforts,” says Minoru Fukushima, Manager, Application and Platform Group, at Konica Minolta’s International Marketing Division. “Implementing Konica Minolta’s UPD will help IT experts to significantly reduce administration time and related costs.” Businesses often use a variety of devices from different manufacturers in their print environments. They then face the troublesome task of updating their heterogeneous fleet with the latest drivers for each system. Konica Minolta’s UPD allows to deploy a single print driver for every compatible device across the whole fleet. The UPD is available for Konica Minolta MFPs and printers as well as PCL/PostScript products from other manufacturers. Many of the competitors’ universal drivers can find vendor and non-vendor network devices. Konica Minolta UPD’s device list not only shows each device’s status, but also lets users know whether or not a selected device is compatible with the UPD. This unique feature saves time and resources by making sure that print jobs are processed and printed correctly without the need for trial and error.
