THE BUMP’S TOO BIG TO IGNORE!

‘CHERYL’S TOLD FRIENDS AND FAMILY’

CHERYL LEAVES NO DOUBT SHE’S EXPECTING HER FIRST CHILD AS SHE STEPS OUT WITH BOYFRIEND LIAM PAYNE IN A VERY CLINGY DRESS – AND REPORTS SPECULATE SHE COULD BE AS FAR AS SIX MONTHS ALONG!

C

heryl appeared to confirm the ‘open secret’ that she’s expecting her first child with boyfriend Liam Payne last week. The 33 year old proudly showed off her blossoming bump in a fitted Alexander Wang dress as she attended the Fayre of St James Christmas Carol Concert alongside her man. Lovebirds Cheryl and Liam, 23, held hands and exchanged loving glances as they arrived at the event, organised by the Quintessentially Foundation – a partner of her charity, Cheryl’s Trust. Although the former Girls Aloud singer is yet to make a formal baby announcement, she rubbed her bump and thanked well-wishers for their kind words. Opera singer Paul Potts, who was at the concert, said: ‘Cheryl said thank you when she was congratulated on the pregnancy and kept her hand proudly on her bump for most of the night.’

Above: Glowing Cheryl flattered her bump in an Alexander Wang dress and Fendi coat. Right: With Olly Murs 4

Cheryl, who turned the lights on at the event, teamed her ribbed olive dress with Alexander McQueen boots and a Fendi coat. Devoted Liam, meanwhile, looked dapper in head-to-toe black as he wrapped his arm around his girlfriend. Paul noted how attentive the One Direction star was, revealing: ‘Liam was ultra-protective. At one point he had to get her a chair to sit on as she was so exhausted from being on her feet.’ Pop star Olly Murs sang at the concert, and admitted Cheryl’s bump was hard to ignore! ‘It was looking rather large and was out for everyone to see,’ he revealed, adding: ‘It was great to see Cheryl and Liam looking so happy. It’s going to be a fantastic time for them, you could definitely see how happy they are. They will make fantastic parents.’ The couple will celebrate their first anniversary this month after getting together following Cheryl’s separation from her second husband, Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, in August 2015. The star was previously married to footballer Ashley Cole in 2006, but divorced him in 2010 following his infidelity. Rumours about Cheryl’s pregnancy have been circulating for months, but it’s thought she revealed the news to her loved ones some time ago. A source confirmed: ‘Cheryl’s told close friends and family. I think everyone knows the battles she’s gone through in her personal life, the fact she so desperately wanted this for so many years, and it didn’t come.’ The insider added: ‘She’s totally ecstatic.’ While the couple have decided not to comment on the pregnancy publicly – with Cheryl focusing on recording her next album – Liam’s sister Ruth Gibbins has broken her silence on the speculation. The 25 year old, whose wedding Cheryl attended back in June, spoke in defence of the couple, writing on Twitter: ‘Bump or no bump, announced or not, it’s completely up to my brother and Cheryl what parts of

there private lives they choose to share and when [sic].’ Following Cheryl and Liam’s outing, Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan said that there was no longer any doubt about whether or not the star is pregnant, and congratulated her. The outspoken journalist said: ‘Congratulations, Cheryl – but if you’re watching this, you can’t kid a kidder. You’re pregnant, get on with announcing it. We are very happy for you!’ Piers’ co-host Susanna Reid echoed his sentiment, adding: ‘Is it reasonable at this point to say: “Are you pregnant?” There’s no longer a food baby!’ Piers then joked: ‘I think we can get past the is she or isn’t she? She’s about to give birth!’ Susanna speculated Cheryl is ‘about six months’ pregnant, given the size of her bump. Above: The couple For their part, Cheryl share a tender and Liam seemed too moment. Below: Liam wrapped up in each other to Payne’s sister Ruth address the chatter, gazing has come out in affectionately at each other support of the couple at the charity concert. It was little wonder that the pair looked so over the moon – old interviews, unearthed recently, show both have had babies on the brain for years! In a chat with a UK magazine four years ago, Cheryl revealed that she was ‘obsessed with babies’. ‘I love kids,’ she said. ‘I know that’s what I was put on the earth to do – to be a mother.’ She might have a tough time naming the new arrival, though, as while Cheryl cited the name Alfie as her favourite for a boy, Liam told a radio interviewer last year: ‘I like the name Taylor. Taylor’s pretty neutral for a boy or a girl. That’s what I’m going to call my first child.’

Cheryl is soon to appear on Who Do You Think You Are?

In other news, Newcastleborn Cheryl is soon to appear on the BBC programme Who Do You Think You Are?. Though the show is about tracing the family lineages of famous faces, Cheryl opted not to use a surname on the show. Born Cheryl Tweedy, she took her first husband’s surname of Cole before changing to Cheryl Fernandez-Versini during her short marriage to French businessman Jean-Bernard. While on the show, the pop star reveals her desire to travel. ‘It would be amazing to campervan around Europe,’ she says, adding: ‘Sometimes you need that when you’re still so noticeable, to have some “you time” and still be learning and exploring.’

The star also discovers some surprising family secrets, including that her greatgrandfather had been a war hero, but nobody spoke about him because he’d fathered twins out of wedlock with his housekeeper. Meanwhile, starting a family may not be the only project Liam’s focused on. The singer’s One Direction bandmate Niall Horan has insisted the group – who are currently on hiatus – will eventually reunite. Niall, 23, revealed: ‘We will be back. We would be silly not to.’ He went on to confirm that the rest of the group – Liam, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles – are ‘enjoying’ working on individual projects. Liam, himself, is hard at work on an album, with Niall noting: ‘At the moment we are all doing our own thing. Harry wanted to do his movie [WWII epic Dunkirk] and everyone is just chilling,’ he said. Niall – who’s already launched a solo career with his single This Town – added: ‘I don’t think anyone needs to worry about us. We are fine.’ Meanwhile, Louis – who is father to 11-month-old son Freddie – is also recording solo material, and bosses at his record label, Syco, are really excited. ‘They think he could be a real success as a solo artist given his ability to write hit records and his fanbase,’ said an insider. SHE’S ATOMIC SMITTEN AGAIN!

‘I FEEL LIKE I’VE KNOWN CHARLES FOR A LIFETIME’

NATASHA HAMILTON TALKS TO OK!’S LAURA HILLS ABOUT HER SURPRISE ENGAGEMENT AND WHY SHE CAN’T UNDERSTAND THE NEGATIVITY SHE’S RECEIVED

N

atasha Hamilton is sitting firmly on cloud nine right now following her whirlwind engagement to her boyfriend Charles Gay. Fashion executive Charles, 29 – who Natasha has been dating for eight months – got down on bended knee on November 24, during a romantic pre-Christmas trip to New York. When OK! catches up with Natasha after she landed back in the UK, she tells us that she’s ‘over the moon’ to have found love again after splitting from her former fiancé, 5IVE singer Ritchie Neville, at the beginning of the year. While some online commenters have criticised Natasha for moving on so soon after her split from Ritchie, 37 – with whom she has two-year-old daughter Ella – the star exclusively tells us that she doesn’t care what people think. Above: Natasha and Charles ‘Eight months may seem like a toast their engagement. small amount of time to some Below right: The star split people, but I feel like I’ve known from ex-fiancé Ritchie Charlie for a lifetime,’ she says Neville in January firmly. ‘I’m not going to let the opportunity to be happy pass me by for fear that people will judge me.’ stopped for a few drinks at the Empire Hotel and Natasha met Charles – who is the creative while we were looking out over the skyline, he director of a fashion brand – at a London bar in got down on one knee. He told me he loved me April, and she recalls how they immediately hit it and wanted to commit to me for off. ‘I knew straight away that we had something the rest of his life. special,’ says Natasha, 34. ‘It felt like I’d known him for ages even though we’d only just met.’ Were you surprised? Here, the Atomic Kitten singer – who is also My jaw dropped and I started mum to Josh, 14, Harry, 11, and Alfie, six, from crying like a baby, I was so previous relationships – tells us all about the happy! We had spoken about proposal, the couple’s plans for the future, and wanting to get married at some how Charles is different from her exes… point in the future, but I had no idea he was going to propose. How did Charles propose? About an hour before he We were on holiday in New York and we’d had proposed, he kept giggling to the most perfect day ice skating and watching himself. At the time I couldn’t the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. We work out why, but now I know it was because he was nervous. How did you celebrate? We went for dinner and had a few glasses of champagne. We were both so overwhelmed with emotion that we were in bed by midnight! Tell us about the ring… He designed it himself. It’s based on a Tiffany & Co ring he saw and liked. It’s a baguette cut diamond and it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. When I saw it, I told him it was too pretty for me.

Natasha hasn’t ruled out giving her children – Ella, Alfie, Harry and Josh – another sibling 10

Were you upset by the criticism you got for getting engaged soon after your split from Ritchie? You’d have to be a robot not to be bothered. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I don’t understand why

people would be so negative about such a beautiful, genuine moment. Charlie hates that I’m subject to online abuse. He doesn’t care what people think and he’s teaching me to be more like that. We were actually going o keep the engagement private but then the story got leaked to a paper, so we wanted to take control and tell people ourselves. Did you worry about how Ritchie would react to the news? We split up in January – I don’t need to ask his permission to move on. I still see Ritchie a lot when he comes to pick up Ella and things are very civil between us. There’s no bad blood. Were you upset by the tweet Ritchie posted after you announced your engagement? [He described his ‘favourite emoji’ as the crying with laughter face.] I can’t speculate about tweets and what they mean. I hope that Ritchie has as much respect for me as I do for him. We’re both committed parents to Ella and he is still close to the boys. I wish Ritchie all the luck in the world and I hope he feels the same about me. How did your children react when you told them? They were really happy for us. Ella doesn’t really understand what’s going on, but Alfie said he wants us to get married on a beach, and Josh and Harry are just happy that I’m so happy. Is Charles good with the children? They absolutely love him. Charlie has two young nephews so he knows how to be around kids. The fact Charlie is working to build a family unit with me and my kids means so much. How long after you got together did Charles meet them? We got together in April and I introduced them a couple of months later. I would never introduce them to a man unless I was sure we had a future. Charlie and the kids getting on with each other is the most important thing in the world to me. Have you and Charles spoken about starting a family together? Like all couples, we talk about the things we’d like to happen but we can’t predict what the future holds. Our main priority at the moment is to enjoy being engaged for a while. When do you plan to get married?

‘I know it’s quick, but what Charlie and I have is very special,’ says Natasha WWW.OK.CO.UK 11

engaged. We have such a special bond. We have a very mature relationship – there are no silly squabbles or bickering. Is he romantic? It’s ridiculous – I’ve really had to up my game since we got together! We’ve had so many amazing experiences, like little holidays together or trips to the theatre and nice dinners. He’s always spoiling me. You’ve documented several of your trips abroad together on Instagram. Does he whisk you away often? They’re not all holidays – Charlie travels the world for work, so I try and tag along with him when I don’t have the kids to look after.

Above and right: Fashion executive Charles proposed during a trip to New York, presenting Natasha with a selfdesigned ring It definitely won’t be next year, but we’ll potentially do it in 2018 or 2019. My work life is crazy right now and Josh has his GCSEs to worry about next year, so we want to pick a time that’s right for everyone. We’re not in a big rush. What type of wedding do you want? We’re thinking we’d like to do it somewhere hot. We’d like it to be very laid back and casual.

‘I’M NOT GOING TO LET THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE HAPPY PASS ME BY’ How did you and Charles meet? We met through a mutual friend at a bar in London. We ended up chatting and really hit it off, it felt like we’d met each other before because we got on so well. The funny thing was he had no clue who I was, which was really refreshing. It was a bit cringe telling him what I do for a living! Charles is a very private person; he isn’t interested in being in the spotlight. What happened next? We swapped numbers and two weeks later he took me for dinner at The Shard. We laughed the whole night long and I knew immediately we had a connection. We started seeing each other 12

You’ve also travelled a lot with Atomic Kitten... We’ve been all over the place together. We’re off to Dubai in January and then to Australia and New Zealand. It’s a blast all going away together, I have such a laugh with Kerry [Katona] and Michelle [Heaton] when she’s with us. every other weekend when the kids were with Ritchie and Riad [Erraji, Alfie’s dad]. Charlie is based in London but he comes up north as much as he can [Natasha is based in Chester]. Did you worry about moving on so quickly? People say I’m always falling in love, but I’ve never been the type of person to be in a relationship with someone who I’m not in love with. I don’t think it’s weird to have loved more than one man. I know it’s quick, but what Charlie and I have is very special. Charlie is a great man who loves me and is great with my children. I’m not going to let the opportunity to be happy pass me by for fear that people will judge me. Do you have any plans to move in together? We’re moving in together in Cheshire next year! I’m just waiting for a house I bought back in September to be renovated before we can move in. How does Charles compare to other men you’ve dated? I’ve loved every man that I’ve been in a serious relationship with, but everything is different with Charlie. That’s why we’re

Do you have any nice plans for Christmas? Christmas Day is the only day I get off from panto over the festive period [Natasha is playing Princess Jasmine in Aladdin in Liverpool], so I’ll be spending it with Charlie and the kids. We’ll be going out for lunch, though, as I can’t do with cooking for everyone! The kids are all very excited. Ella has a little carol concert coming up that she’s singing in and Alfie is playing a child in his school’s Christmas play – last year he was an alien! Have you been dropping hints to Charles about any gifts you want? I’ve told him he doesn’t need to get me anything, – a trip to New York and an engagement ring is quite enough. OK! PREGNANT ZARA IS ‘VERY VERY HAPPY’

ZARA AND MIKE TINDALL ANNOUNCE THEY’RE EXPECTING BABY NUMBER TWO – AND HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN REVEALS SHE’S ‘DELIGHTED WITH THE NEWS’ OF ANOTHER GREAT-GRANDCHILD

A

fter putting her plans for a second baby on hold last year to focus on her sporting career, Zara Tindall has announced she’s pregnant again. A spokesperson for Her Majesty the Queen’s granddaughter said that she is ‘thrilled’ to be expecting her second child with husband Mike Tindall. Zara had previously revealed that the couple had put plans for a second child on ice while she concentrated on training for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. However, she missed out on a place to represent Great Britain as part of the eventing team during the selection process. Their new baby will be the Queen’s sixth greatgrandchild and is expected to arrive in late spring 2017. A statement from Buckingham Palace said: ‘The Queen and the Duke

We are very, very happy about the little one on its way. 2017 is starting well!’ The couple are already parents to daughter Mia, who turns three in January. Opening up about how motherhood has changed her attitude towards her sporting career, Zara, 35, has admitted: ‘There are definitely more highs being a mother than being in sport. One thing I do know, I make better decisions now. Before I’d have got on any old horse. Now I’m more selective. And when I see a steep slope, I go round it.’ OK! rince Harry seemed over the moon to come face to face with pop star Rihanna several times during his Caribbean tour, which continued last week. The pair were first introduced at an afternoon event to mark Barbados’s 50 years of independence, which Harry attended as part of his two-week tour. Dressed in a pale blue Matthew Adams Dolan gown, the singer greeted the royal with a handshake as he arrived at the Prime Minister Freundel Stuart’s Toast To The Nation in the capital, Bridgetown. Harry seemed delighted, telling her: ‘Hello, it’s very nice to meet you.’ They were later seated side by side at the Kensington Oval cricket ground for a celebratory concert.

Addressing a crowd of 20,000, Prince Harry said: ‘I am honoured to be here representing my grandmother the Queen as we celebrate this historic milestone of this beautiful nation.’ The 32 year old used the trip to announce a new scholarship scheme, which will allow workers from the Caribbean to train at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. Harry also used the opportunity of his visit to highlight World AIDS Day by being tested for the disease alongside his pop star pal. It is thought the prince had persuaded Rihanna, 28, to undergo the finger-prick test – which produces a result in just 20 minutes – while chatting to her backstage at the concert. Judging by his pained expression, Harry isn’t great with needles, but he was also forced to endure some painful discussion about the royal family’s sex life while being tested. Fabian Sergeant, an HIV counsellor, explained: ‘One of the myths is that royalty don’t have sex,’ he said amid laughter. Hoping to change the subject, Harry fired back: ‘And that royalty has blue blood?’ Ahead of the end of the trip on December 4, Harry also travelled to Grenada, where he met teenagers at an exhibition of environmental and special projects on Grand Anse beach. While in Grenada, he also met

youngsters from the Youth In Action programme and took part in a game of cricket to raise awareness of the initiative, supported by the Jason Roberts Foundation and Laureus Sport For Good. Meanwhile, a new documentary is set to air on ITV, which follows Harry and the work of his charity, Sentebale. The film, which will air on December 19, charts Harry’s return to Lesotho in Africa last year as he witnesses firsthand the work done by the organisation, which provides care, support and education for young people affected

by HIV and AIDS. Harry previously spent eight weeks in the kingdom during his gap year. The documentary will feature footage of Harry helping with the charity’s work on the ground, and will also show him being reunited with Matsu Potsane, a teenager he met on his first trip to Lesotho. The pair have been in regular contact since Harry’s visit and came face to face again earlier this year after the royal surprised the 16 year old during his first overseas trip to London. Opening up about his last visit, Harry revealed: ‘The last ten years that I’ve been coming here, every single time we turn up somewhere, they’re always singing. It’s never shake hands, it’s sing, dance, embarrass yourself. Everywhere I look I can hear songs from ten years ago in my head. To me, that’s what this country is about, you just feel welcome everywhere you go.’ OK! REPORT BY LAURA HILLS PHOTOGRAPHS BY GETTY IMAGES, ITV

other. We say the same things and have the same ideas. How would you celebrate if you won? I’d probably just go home to my mum and dad’s house and get everyone I know to come over. Have you got used to all the attention from female fans yet? I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it. It’s really cool to have a fan base and people supporting me. It’s overwhelming but it’s fun. Who do you want to duet with in the final? Nicole! I’m not sure what song I’d want us to do, but hopefully we’ll be on the same page. Have you had much support from celebrities? Sam Smith got in touch after I sung Writing’s On The Wall and told me he thinks I’m unreal and to keep doing what I’m doing. I still can’t believe he messaged me. Is there anything you would have done differently if you had your time on the show again? I had a few weeks where it felt like I was just doing enough to get by. I did wonder if I should have done different songs, but maybe I wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for the choices I’ve made so far. Can you imagine ever going back to your job as a waiter? I could never imagine anything like that. I’d cry if I had to! OK! TurN OvEr fOr 5 AfTEr MIDNIgHT.

‘WE’VE HAD OUR TIFFS’

OK! TALKS TO AFTER MIDNIGHT ABOUT THEIR DREAMS OF REACHING THE FINAL IMPENDING FATHERHOOD AND CHATTING UP NICOLE SCHERZINGER!

B

oy band 5 After Midnight weren’t deterred when they ended up in the sing-off following The X Factor’s Louis Loves week. In fact, the band say it made them stronger! The energetic trio were saved by the judges, who sent Honey G home instead. When OK! sits down for a chat with Kieran Alleyne, 21, Jordan Lee, 21, and Nathan Lewis, 24, ahead of the semifinal, they tell us: ‘We’re not going to let it put us off. We’ve just got to work hard to show what we can do and prove we deserve to be in the final.’ As well as their passion for performing, the boys have another reason to fight to win the show – Kieran is expecting his first baby with

girlfriend of 11 months, Sophie. ‘The boys can’t wait to babysit. Nathan and Jordan are going to be like uncles to the baby,’ Kieran reveals. Here, 5 After Midnight chat about being in the sing-off, performing for John Legend and flirting with Nicole Scherzinger… What’s been your most memorable moment from The X Factor so far? Jordan: It has to be when we performed Say You’ll Be There and Boogie Wonderland. Nathan: Playing the piano for John Legend was a pretty big dream come true, too. How has your friendship changed throughout your time on the show? Jordan: We’ve had one or two tiffs but bands always go through that. We’re like a family and we love each other to bits. Kieran: I argue with my real brothers so this is the same. It’s only ever over something small, then we’re back to normal after a few minutes.

Above: The boys faced Honey G in the bottom two. Top: Kieran and his pregnant girlfriend Sophie 22

What’s Louis like as a mentor? Jordan: He’s genuine, loving and always totally honest. Without him we wouldn’t have got this far.

Will you miss living together once the show is over? Jordan: Definitely! Of course, there have been times where we haven’t enjoyed living on top of each other, but we’ll miss each other a lot. Who would you like to win if you don’t come first? Jordan: Nathan and I would like Matt [Terry]. Kieran: If it can’t be us, Saara [Aalto] deserves it. Have you had any saucy messages from fans? Jordan: A few naughty ones! I couldn’t tell you what was said, though, because they aren’t PG! How are you going to juggle being a dad and trying to make it in the music industry, Kieran? I’m one of six children and so is my girlfriend, so we’re not going to be short of babysitters. I’ll be there as much as I can. I’m really looking forward to it, it’s going to be a wicked experience. If you were going to get the judges a Christmas present, what would you choose? Jordan: I don’t know what we’d get Simon [Cowell] – what do you give the man who has everything? Do you ever try and flirt with Nicole? Jordan: I do. Any sane man would! OK! TURN OVER FOR OUR CHAT WITH EMILY MIDDLEMAS.

hen her boyfriend Ryan Lawrie was eliminated from The X Factor three weeks ago, Emily Middlemas was devastated. The pair have been together for nine months and when OK! speaks to the songstress just before the semi-finals she tells us: ‘I feel like I’ve lost an arm!’ The Scottish 18 year old recently came under fire from former X Factor judge Nick Grimshaw, who called her performance of Britney Spears’ Toxic ‘horrible’ – not that she’s let it bother her! ‘Everyone’s entitled to their opinion – I’m never going to please everyone,’ she says. Luckily, Emily has one big fan in her mentor Simon Cowell, who’s given her his personal phone number. Here, Emily opens up about missing Ryan, her plans for the future and showing people her dark side… Has it been weird being on the show without Ryan? It’s been difficult because we used to really help each other with our songs. I feel like I’ve lost an arm! He’s been very busy so we’ve not been able to see each other much, but we talk a lot on the phone.

Emily’s rendition of Toxic – which included playing the ukelele – was slated by ex-judge Nick Grimshaw

Did part of you feel relieved when he left because you were no longer in competition with each other? We never saw each other as competition, we just wanted to get as far as we could together.

It would have been amazing to both be in the final. Do you get jealous when female fans show Ryan attention? Ryan has always had female fans, but he’s the most loyal boyfriend in the world so it doesn’t bother me. If these girls go out and buy his records and support his career then I’m happy he has them! When did Simon give you his personal number? He gave it to me a few weeks ago and said I could call him at any time. Simon is a bit of a father figure for me on the show, he’s always looking after me and making sure I’m feeling okay. Simon and I are both a bit crazy, he says that’s why we get along! Is it true that Simon has banned you from dancing? We’ve never spoken about it but he firmly believes that X Factor isn’t a dance competition and that singing should come first. He has a point, but I would love to give it a go. Nick Grimshaw called your performance of Toxic ‘horrible’ – was that upsetting? I actually took it quite well. Not everyone is going to love my voice and that’s fine. He probably shouldn’t tweet nasty things, though, you never know what people’s emotions are or what place they’re in mentally. What’s been your most memorable moment from the show so far? It’s got to be when I performed Creep by Radiohead. Everyone tells me it was a turning point for me and showed what kind of artist I am. Pirates Of The Caribbean star Orlando, 39, who looked cosy in a winter coat, denim shirt and dark trousers, got into the same car as Katy, which was filled with birthday balloons. Earlier in the week, the pair sparked more rumours as they attended UNICEF’s Snowflake Ball together. As Katy, who was honoured with the prestigious Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award, went up to collect her gong from Hillary Clinton, Orlando was seen tenderly rubbing her tummy, sparking rumours that the singer is pregnant. Katie’s rep has since been forced to deny the claims, simply saying of the rumour: ‘It’s false.’ The pair have both previously been in high-profile relationships. kendall jenner and the hadid sisters strut for victoria’s secret

O

nce again, the Victoria’s Secret Angels made headlines across the world as they took to the glittering catwalk for the lingerie brand’s annual Fashion Show last week. Rising star Kendall Jenner was among 51 of the world’s top models ruling the runway at the Grand Palais in Paris. Returning for her second year in the show, Kendall looked sensational in a series of five different looks as she blew kisses on the catwalk, and even got to wear a pair of wings – sparking speculation she may be the next girl to ascend to the ranks of the brand’s top tier, Angels. Ahead of the show, the 21 year old spoke for the first time about her brother-in-law Kanye West’s admission to hospital for ‘temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration’. She said of her family: ‘Everyone’s okay. Everyone is doing okay, just praying.’ Meanwhile, Kendall’s pals, supermodel siblings Gigi and Bella Hadid, became the first sisters to walk in the show. The girls – 21 and 20, respectively – were supported by their proud mum, The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Hadid, their dad Mohamed Hadid and his fiancée Shiva Safai. Bella put on a brave face as she strutted past her ex-boyfriend The Weeknd, who was performing alongside Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. She said ahead of the show: ‘There is no awkwardness. He

Bella and Gigi Hadid with mum Yolanda, dad Mohamed, and Mohamed’s fiancée Shiva is my best friend, and I’m excited because I’m walking during his performance.’ The pair were later spotted partying together in the French capital. Just days earlier, Bella was caught looking at a picture of them kissing on her phone during the model’s flight from the US to Paris – though reunion rumours have been quashed. Meanwhile, Russian model Irina Shayk appeared to be hiding some very exciting news underneath her sparkling red jacket. The 30 year old – who was walking in the show for the first time – is reportedly expecting her first child with actor Bradley Cooper, 41, who she’s been dating since April last year. She is said to be in her second trimester and is ‘so excited’ about becoming a mother. Joining Irina on the catwalk were Victoria’s Secret veterans Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima, who are the brand’s longest-serving Angels and closed the show.

Gigi and Kendall are flanked by VS Angel Lais Ribeiro and supermodel Liu Wen Californian-born Angel Jasmine Tookes was given the highest honour of wearing the lingerie brand’s Fantasy Bra, which is a custom design crafted by a different jeweller every year. The 2016 version was a £1.9 million creation featuring 6,000 emeralds and diamonds. The prestigious gig requires a legendary amount of preparation for the models. Veteran Angel Alessandra – who was taking part in her 15th show – recently revealed the exercises that get her runway ready. The 35-year-old mum of two not only loves boxing and reformer Pilates, she also keeps lean through core twists, squats and obliques. After such intense workouts, it was no wonder the models wanted to reward themselves and indulge in some fast food after the show. ‘i’ll be cooking on christmas day – i’ve just ordered m&s!’

frankie bridge talks to OK!’s phil gould about the ‘strictly come dancing’ special, getting the boys excited for the festive season and why she’s spending as little time in the kitchen as possible!

T

wo years ago, Frankie Bridge got tantalisingly close to lifting the Strictly Come Dancing Glitterball when she was runner-up with her professional dance partner Kevin Clifton. Now the 27 year old is back as one of the festive hopefuls in the show’s Christmas special, this time with a new partner… Gorka Marquez. It’s been a tough few weeks for The Saturdays singer. As well as training for Strictly, her husband – former professional footballer Wayne – has been away in Australia taking part in I’m A Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here!. Luckily Thomas Sabo ambassador Frankie was able to head out to Oz to support her man, although she was left less than impressed when he opened up about their sex life in the jungle! After admitting to his campmates that he and Frankie tried ‘everything’ before having children, the singer revealed: ‘I was willing him to just be quiet!’ She added: ‘I was staying with my mum and I was like: “Please, just stop!”’ She also revealed that she is happy viewers have got to know the real Wayne. ‘I always think, with people that know me or think they know me, it’s kind of weird they think I’d marry a horrible footballer. But I do get it, because footballers have a bad rep. But he’s such a nice guy, I knew there was only one way this would all go. This is who I married. I love him and now everyone else loves him.’ Frankie has also admitted she got upset seeing Wayne, 36, reduced to tears when he talked to jungle pal Larry Lamb about missing his children. ‘I’ve seen him laugh so much and he’s been himself so I knew he was comfortable,’ says Frankie. ‘But obviously when he was upset I cried.’ She added: ‘It’s hard, he’s been gone a while, he’s usually with the kids every day.’

‘It’s been hard,’ Frankie says of Wayne’s absence during his time in the jungle

‘He’s been really sweet, bless him,’ Frankie says of Gorka, her partner for the Christmas special In the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special, Frankie and Gorka are doing an American smooth to Let It Go from the film Frozen – and Frankie is doing what every little girl dreams of by transforming herself into Elsa. We sat down to hear how she feels to be back on the dancefloor, why she’ll be cooking Christmas dinner for the first time ever this year and how her family helped Wayne to see the magic of Christmas…

Hi, Frankie, how are you feeling to be back on Strictly? It’s wicked! But I feel like I’ve used up all my Strictly resources now. It’s like the last Strictly thing I can do as I’ve done the main show and the tour. Although I was dressed up as a witch on tour, so maybe I could come back as somebody else?!

How have you found the rehearsals? I went into it thinking, I’ve got three weeks to learn one dance, whereas I was used to only having a week. I didn’t think it would be easy but I thought I’d be ready by the time it came to the show. But I’ve been so nervous we needed quite a few more rehearsals! Kevin is busy dancing with Louise Redknapp in the main show, so you’re in the capable hands of Gorka Marquez for the Christmas special – is it different dancing with him? It’s weird because I’ve never danced with anybody like that apart from Kevin. I really got to know Kevin and got used to the way he teaches and dances. So I was nervous and Gorka was nervous, too. But it just went really well. What’s Gorka like to work with? He’s been really sweet, bless him. He’s just like Kevin. He’s easy-going and doesn’t have a go at me. We’ve enjoyed it. I’ve just been really lucky.

Above: Wayne with the couple’s sons, Carter and Parker. Right: Frankie made it to the Strictly final with Kevin 30

Has Kevin turned up at any of your rehearsals to offer advice? No! But we had a group dance rehearsal the other day and he came down to meet Karen [Kevin’s wife]. It was weird dancing with Gorka in front of Kevin. When I first told Kevin I was doing the Christmas show, he was a bit like, okay!

Frankie is looking forward to a family Christmas, although she won’t be spending too much time slaving over a hot stove! www.ok.co.Uk 31

Above: After the series, the tour and the Christmas special (below left), Frankie says she has ‘used up all my Strictly resources’! Have you stayed friends with Kevin? Yes, I got really close to everyone on the show. That was one of the main reasons why I loved it – I’ve made so many amazing friends. I never thought I’d be friends with Judy Murray! I think that’s cool. How do you feel about having to dance the American smooth? I’m pleased, as it’s the one dance I didn’t get to do when I was in the series. Would you like to lift the Glitterball? It would be lovely to win. The Christmas special is a little more chilled than the main show. Have you got more fit coming back to Strictly? Oh yes, it’s amazing. It’s really nice to work out everyday but not work out! I would love to keep

up the dancing, but it would be weird going to a class after dancing with these guys. Wayne has been on I’m A Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here! and you’ve been rehearsing – who’s been looking after the boys… My parents and Wayne’s parents have been really helping out. Will you be watching on Christmas Day? Definitely, we always watch it. I’ll have all the family round. Parker was only one when I was on the show, so I’m sure he’ll want to watch it. Have you always celebrated Christmas in a big way? Christmas has always been a big thing for my family. Wayne, bless him, never really got into

Frankie joined Ola Jordan, Adam Thomas’s fiancée Caroline Daly and Scott Thomas’s girlfriend Kady McDermott in Australia Christmas, so the Sandfords rammed it down his throat from the minute we met. He has been well and truly Christmassed! Has it changed since having the boys? Parker is three so he’s just starting to get into it. Although the other day he did say to me: ‘Father Christmas is on his way with his horses and I’m scared.’ I thought, this isn’t the way it should be. So I told him they were reindeers and he should be excited. I think I have a bit of work to do there! Will you spoil the boys at Christmas? Yes and no. Parker’s birthday was in October, so what more do you buy a three year old and a one year old? It’s just more toys. Their grandparents are going to spoil them silly. For Parker’s birthday we got him a trampoline and that was it. What’s your favourite thing about Christmas? I love that everybody gets together, and the food. I love mince pies; I’d never had one until two years ago. I had my first one this year in September! Do you do the cooking? Normally my mum does it all. They all come to our house but my mum brings all the food! This year we’re doing it a little differently as we haven’t got enough room for everybody in our house – my parents are coming for Christmas Eve, then they’ll leave on Christmas morning, so I’ll be doing the cooking on Christmas Day for Wayne’s family. How are you going to cope? I’ve just got Marks & Spencer [laughs]! I ordered it last month. I’m not going to spend the whole day in the kitchen. That will be my attempt. Do you have plans on the work front for 2017? I did a documentary about Internet trolls and I’m going to be doing more of that. I didn’t realise so many people didn’t know about trolls. I was pregnant after doing Strictly last time so it would be nice to do a few things with Kevin or Gorka. OK!

Although he is not my biological dad, he took me and my brother on at a young age and he is there for me for everything. He is amazing with his grandchildren.’ While Katie stayed away from court, her halfsister Sophie attended every day of the week-long trial and also spoke out in support of Paul, who married their mum in 1988. Opening up in court, Sophie said: ‘I love my dad.’ Meanwhile, Katie – who is rumoured to be joining an all-star series of Celebrity Big Brother in January – set tongues wagging last week when she tweeted: ‘Just had some amazing news.’ The post led to speculation that the star could be expecting another baby with husband Kieran, 29. One snap shows Katie cuddling up to fence erector Paul while he smiles and she pouts (right). Earlier in the week, Katie showed her support for her stepdad in a statement that was read out during the trial. She revealed that the man she calls Dad is a ‘fun’ and ‘loving’ person and ‘is there for me for everything’. Paul was standing trial at Chichester Crown Court after being accused of attacking a woman, who was a friend of his and Katie’s mum. He has protested his innocence throughout the trial, maintaining that the married woman had consented to sex. During the trial, the jury heard how Paul allegedly attacked the woman on two occasions following a night out. The first alleged attack was said to have taken place in the early hours of March 22, 2015, after Paul followed the woman out of a taxi when she complained of feeling ill. She claimed he then tried to have sex with her again in some woods near his house.

ennifer Lawrence has set tongues wagging by wearing a series of sparklers on her ring finger. She first sparked rumours that she was engaged to her filmmaker boyfriend Darren Aronofsky (right) by flashing a diamond on her ring finger (bottom right). The following day, she wore another ring on the same finger while promoting Passengers (below and below centre). All eyes have remained on her left hand, despite her spokesperson denying the engagement reports. It would be a whirlwind romance for Jennifer and Darren, 47, if they were set to tie the knot, as they’re yet to even confirm if they are actually dating! They’ve been pictured on a string of dates after first being spotted enjoying a romantic meal in Brooklyn in August.

fter 18 months apart, Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick have decided to give their relationship another go. Just in time for Christmas, it seems that Kourtney, 37, has allowed Scott, 33 (right), back into her life – but only because he’s curbed his partying ways. A source revealed: ‘They are back together and giving their relationship a try again. Scott’s mellowed out a lot and hasn’t been partying.’ Kourtney was also reportedly keen to give the relationship another shot for the sake of their three children, Mason, six, Penelope, four, and two-yearold Reign (right). Earlier this year, Kourtney hinted she might be open to a reconciliation when she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She said of Scott: ‘I feel like every day is different, but we’re totally getting along. Like, we have three beautiful kids together. He’s family. He’ll always be.’

Kate, 37, Gwyneth, 44, and Demi, 54, appeared to be getting on famously as they posed with their arms around one another at the festive gathering. Kate and Demi had no excuse for leaving the minimalist store

empty-handed as Gwyneth has tried to cater for everyone with her new retail store. Goop Gift features a healthy living area, a food corner and a kids’ section. There is even an adult zone that sells risqué items like ‘sex dust’, vibrators and La Perla lingerie. And proving she knows how to make fun of herself, the stocking fillers department sells ‘consciously uncoupled’ key rings – a reference to the famous statement Gwyneth made while announcing her intention to separate from ex-husband Chris martin in 2014.

The duke – who was a father of four and Britain’s third richest man – had been a close friend of the royal family for years and died, aged 64, after suffering a heart attack at his Abbeystead Estate in Lancashire. He acted as a confidante to many senior royals and was valued by Prince Charles particularly, who asked him to become a mentor to a young Prince William. It was the late duke who loaned William and Kate his private jet for several family vacations. The duke’s four children also attended. Hugh, 25 – who inherited his father’s title and recited the Rudyard Kipling poem If during the service, arrived on the arm of his mother, while his sister Lady Viola looked stylish in an emerald green dress. ince getting the keys to her new Downing Street home in June, Prime Minister Theresa May has given the posh pad a bit of a makeover. In her first at-home interview and photoshoot as PM, Mrs May gives a fascinating glimpse of the central London property. Gone are the gentlemen’s club-style leather sofas favoured by her predecessor David Cameron, replaced by plush three-seaters in a warm, welcoming red, softened with patterned scatter cushions. An on-trend Gala glasstopped coffee table from Habitat, retailing for £195, bounces light around the room, as does an equally up-to-date

£100 chrome table lamp and shade from John Lewis. There’s further evidence of a woman’s touch in the luxury £42 Diptyque rose candles, £25 Revitalise Me diffusers by Elemis, and fresh white hydrangeas. She no doubt sought inspiration from the copies of World Of Interiors magazine that were spotted lying around her home. The PM, who shares the property with her husband of 36 years, banker Philip May, reveals that they had to hurriedly buy more furniture for the famous pad, which is far more spacious than their old flat in the capital. There’s clearly still work to be done, with piles of pictures waiting to be hung on the

walls. Mrs May’s collection of 100 cookbooks also remains at home in her Maidenhead constituency, where she apparently enjoys whipping up salads by Israeli-born chef Yotam Ottolenghi. Renowned for her strong sense of style, it’s no surprise that the 60-year-old Conservative politician presents a relaxed demeanour for the photoshoot. Her £995 leather trousers and £495 cashmere jumper, both by British designer Amanda Wakeley – a favourite of the Duchess of Cambridge – give her an air of chic elegance, with a youthful edge. She even ditched her customary kitten heels for a pair of trendy £295 Burberry WWW.OK.CO.UK 51

‘philip is a huge support for me, he really is’ Above: The Prime Minister shows off her sense of style. Below inset: With Her Majesty the Queen. Below left: Husband Philip is ‘getting used to’ attention from the public trainers. More formal pictures show her perched on her desk, dressed in her familiar style of a smart dress and structured jacket, accessorised with a statement necklace and leopardprint heels. Confessing that she pays careful consideration to her wardrobe, Mrs May says in the interview: ‘At night, I’ll think through my outfit for the next day and I go to certain shops where they know me.’ Adding that she prefers not to shop online in case things don’t fit, the PM takes a valuable ally along with her to the shops – her husband! Philip is apparently very patient and very decisive when it comes to her potential choices. ‘He’s good at accessories, too,’ says Mrs May. ‘Particularly good at choosing handbags and bracelets for presents and good at flowers.’ Theresa and Philip met at Oxford when they were introduced by the future Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, and married in 1980. While they didn’t have children – ‘Well, that wasn’t possible, so you get on with life,’ says the PM matter-of-factly – she reveals she has plenty of nieces, nephews and godchildren to spoil. 52

Jokingly, she adds: ‘My oldest godchild is already in her forties!’ Of her 59-year-old spouse, she says: ‘Philip is a huge support for me. He really is,’ and adds that he’s slowly getting used to being married to one of the world’s most powerful figures. ‘It’s taken a bit of adjusting for him to see people writing about what he wears and taking selfies with him,’ she says. ‘But he’s getting used to it! He’s been surprised by how much interest he’s had. Philip always says he gets 90 per cent of the fun for only ten per cent of the effort.’ Mrs May, who reveals she likes to relax by watching episodes of crime show NCIS, insists she doesn’t ‘feel like a celeb, but like a prime minister trying to get on with the job’. However, that didn’t stop her excitement at being asked to record her first wedding video message by a member of the public! After being stopped outside a shop by a camera-wielding person, she recalls: ‘It was sort of like a selfie, but I had to say: “Hello, James and Sarah, happy wedding day!”’ OK! feATure By MICHelle gArneTT PHOTOgrAPHS By AuSTIn HArgrAve/’THe SundAy TIMeS MAgAzIne’, geTTy IMAgeS

Nunsmere Hall was transformed into a winter wonderland

Above: Rebekah with her sister Esther Howe and daughter Megan. Right: Guests designed a onesie at the party – and enjoyed a slice of cake (far right) Yes, and I did such a silly thing. I thought it would be nice to take the helium balloons back for the kids, but when helium balloons go up in the air, the air pressure expands the balloons, so we were there happily flying along in the dark and suddenly the biggest bang went off as the balloons popped! Has Jamie got a romantic side? Not massively, but we’ve only been together three years in January and I feel like I’ve been with him forever. He’s my soulmate and he completes me. His personality is the complete opposite of mine. I’m quite fiery but he’s so relaxed, nothing fazes him. It’s great when you’ve got two completely different characters because you bounce off each other. He’s calmed me down a lot. Did you have a drink at your baby shower? I had two flutes of prosecco with strawberries and a straw so I didn’t ruin my lippy! I wish I could’ve had more, but at least I wasn’t the only one not drinking because two of my friends are pregnant, too. My last baby shower was crazy, there were drinking games with all the girls trying to pop balloons without their hands! Was there any of that this time? The majority of people had hangovers because they’d all been out in Manchester the night before. They still managed to polish off quite a few drinks, though! We were all discussing names and Sam Bailey was saying: ‘You have to call him Sam!’ I was like: ‘Sod off!’ Then someone else said we had to call him Jamie, but I was like: ‘The poor child needs his own identity!’ We don’t like any boys’ names – they all remind me of car dealerships or naughty kids, so we’ll have to get the book out. 56

How about naming him after the place he was conceived, like Brooklyn Beckham? That was in our house, so we could call him Stilton because Melton Mowbray is renowned for pork pies and Stilton cheese! Is there anyone who couldn’t make it? A few people like Katie Price. Rita Mahrez [wife of Jamie’s teammate Riyad Mahrez] was meant to come, but she’s about to give birth any day. Nicola McLean couldn’t make it because she’s damaged her eye and Coleen Rooney was on mum duty as Wayne had a Manchester United game that day. How do you know Katie Price? We were messaging via Twitter and began talking on WhatsApp, mostly about her autobiography. She’s my sort of person. I love her sense of humour and we’ve got a lot in common. We both have kids with different dads and she knows all about co-parenting with an ex and the struggles that come with it.

Rebekah, Danielle Chopping, Chloe Tee, Caroline Bartle-Jones, Esther Howe, Sarah Thorneycroft-Smith and Megan arrived in style

Have you met? No, we’ve just spoken lots of times. It’s a shame she lives so far away because our kids are similar ages. What presents did you get? I was given some amazing stuff. My agent bought me an iCandy Peach Blossom double buggy and Frances Bishop, who is in The Apprentice and shares the same agent as me, gave me some adorable clothes from her shop, The Pud Store. Was Sofia upset about not coming? No, she was fine but I was a bit concerned leaving the boys in charge of the kids because Jamie had his two best mates over and their kids, too, and sometimes when those three get together it ends in disaster and they get drunk. But they were actually sensible and sober and I got home after the baby shower and they’d just ordered Domino’s. I ended up eating more than they did! How are you feeling at the moment? I’m less tolerant, certain things I’d usually ignore tip me over the edge. I don’t break down and cry, it’s more of a rage. It’ll be nice to feel normal again. Is Jamie helping out more at home? Yes, he does bath time and he’s pulling his weight more because he knows I need help. Does he cook dinner? No, that’s a step too far. I always cook. He has what the kids have, they love lasagne or spaghetti and meatballs. Jamie loves my stew

and dumplings. I’m missing having wine when I’m cooking, though! How are you feeling about the birth? Stressed, because I went to the midwife last Friday and the baby has turned to the side, so is breech at the moment. His head is under my ribs and his feet are in my pelvis, so they can’t turn the baby into the right position for a natural birth. It’s likely to be a C-section, but I find out for sure at a scan in mid-December. I know it’s out of my control but I don’t want a major operation. I’ve always had natural births, and it’s the recovery of a C-section I’m worried about. I’m heavily pregnant, and with Jamie always working and three other kids, I need a nanny. I’ve interviewed a few but it’s just making sure we find the right one. I’d rather just do it myself. Who will be at the birth with you? Hopefully Jamie, but if he’s got a match he won’t. If the baby comes on my due date as planned, he’ll be on a football pitch, but if it’s a planned C-section we can work around his football schedule.

Above: Rebekah said she had a lovely day with her pals. Below right: Blue for a boy on the sweetie table. Below far right: Rebekah with her gorgeous iCandy pram

Is Jamie quite good in an emergency? We’ve never had one before. I’m quiet and withdrawn when it comes to labour. I don’t like anyone near me or touching me, so last time he sat in the corner watching a Champions League game until the midwife said: ‘We’re ready to push now, you can come over!’ Then he held my hand and got involved. Will you have a bottle of champagne in the delivery room? Definitely, I can have it after with jam on toast! Unless it is a C-section, as I can’t have alcohol after anaesthetic and surgery! Do you need music and candles at the birth? Oh no, I’m definitely not a precious princess. You’re in there to do a job and to focus on the final outcome. Have you bought everything for the new baby? Nothing yet because I’ve been wary of going into a shop and picking a certain colour and someone going: ‘Ooh they’re having a boy!’ I gave all of Sofia’s stuff away, neutral baby

clothes, to my friend so we’ve got so much to buy. Do you want any more kids? No, this is definitely my last. Are you going to rush to lose the baby weight? No, I haven’t put on much, only about two stone, but as this is my last baby I just want to enjoy it. When Sofia was two weeks old and waking up a million times a night, I was like: ‘Oh God, give me strength!’ But I might enjoy it more with this one. I still go to the gym twice a week – I do toning exercises to keep my body ticking over. I’m dreading getting back in the gym after this baby. How long will you wait? Probably about six weeks if it’s a natural birth. I’ll wait until I get the all-clear – I’ll be breastfeeding while doing squats! I do squats when Sofia is running riot so it can’t be that hard. I didn’t exercise at all when I was pregnant with Sofia, or after. I only started exercising in the lead up to our wedding but I’ll definitely carry on. I’ll go to the gym. What are you most looking forward to about this baby? I’m looking forward to being able to do normal stuff with the kids without feeling knackered. I’m keen on doing some baby yoga and baby massage classes, too.

How is Sofia feeling about the new baby? She’s alright at the minute, she keeps pointing to my bump and saying: ‘Baby!’ Since she’s started nursery she’s a lot less clingy. I still think she’s going to be a nightmare when this baby is here and she realises he’s not going back!

Are you excited about Christmas? I can’t wait. Elf On The Shelf comes out – he’s Santa’s spy from the North Pole. The kids write to Santa and, on December 1, Sparky the elf appears [right]! During the day he sits on the shelf above the AGA and at night he comes alive and does all these naughty things – he’s either stuck his head in flour or pulled baubles off the tree. Every morning, the kids come downstairs to find out what he’s been up to. Then, nearer Christmas, Sparky goes back to report to Santa on how good the kids have been and leaves them presents. We all went to Lapland last year, which was incredible. Hopefully we can go to Lapland UK instead this year. What are you doing for New Year? It’s a really busy time football-wise, so we’ll probably just get a couple of friends over. We never go out, it’s over-rated and Jamie plays on New Year’s Day anyway. What New Year’s resolutions will you make? None. I make a resolution every day of my life and never stick to them, so it’s a waste of time! OK! The boss of the house, Samia’s daughter Freya, seven, is at school but she has been keeping the couple busy coming up with numerous ideas for what Father Christmas can bring herself and her little brother on December 25! Samia’s Maltese terrier Sonny is also keeping occupied by running around and barking at any unwanted guests. The family got their festive season off to a flying start with a visit to Celtic Manor Resort near Newport in South Wales to see the Christmas Kingdom. But there are a few more treats ahead, with a Christmas shopping trip to Amsterdam and an outing to Winter Wonderland in London. Samia: I have a bit of time off work leading up to Christmas, so we’ve got weekends away with the kids and then are just having a family at home. How was your trip to Celtic Manor, where our photoshoot took place? Samia: Great, we went to Christmas Kingdom and Sylvain helped to open the ice rink. Both of us had a skate around, too! They had Santa’s Grotto, which was amazing. It had real reindeers. There were also lots of wooden chalets serving food. Anything else planned in the run-up to Christmas? Samia: We’re going to Amsterdam for a couple of days. Yves is coming, too, while Freya is going to see her new brother. [Samia’s former husband and Freya’s dad, Matt Smith, and his girlfriend Hayley welcomed their first child, Frank, into the world on November 20.] Then we’re all going to Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland. I took Freya a couple of years ago and it was fantastic. Will you have a traditional Christmas dinner? Samia: I really like cooking a big Christmas dinner. On Christmas Eve I do a Coca-Cola ham – it’s a Nigella Lawson recipe. You boil a ham in Coca-Cola, then pour treacle over it and bang it in the oven. It’s gorgeous. Do you do anything special after Christmas dinner? Samia: We have people coming round so I’ll be making more food for them. If we can cram any more into our bellies! Sylvain: We could do Christmas karaoke!

Hoovers. He loves it when we get the Hoover out. He also wants Lullaby Laa Laa, but I think Freya probably wants that! Sylvain: I want to get him a little slide for his bedroom – you can get these small activity centres. I would get a climbing frame if we could fit one in the bedroom. He loves to climb. Have you both got much time off work? Sylvain: I take Christmas off but obviously January is a very busy time of year for me, as people have made their New Year’s resolutions about getting fit. Unless they’ve trained before, it usually lasts for about a month! They feel guilty because they’ve put weight on, but it doesn’t last. Samia: I’ve got a few weeks off and go back in the New Year. ‘Yves is over a year old so he’ll have more of an idea about what is going on,’ his mum tells us Samia: Sylvain loves karaoke. When we go round to Tricia Penrose’s house she puts on Joe Le Taxi [Vanessa Paradis’s hit] and makes him sing that! Do you have any French traditions when it comes to Christmas, Sylvain? When I was a kid we used to stay up and open our presents at midnight on December 24. But at that time, kids didn’t have 30 presents each! Samia: Sylvain keeps moaning at me as he thinks Freya gets too many presents. He always says he wasn’t even allowed a Kinder Egg when he was a kid! The other day, Freya said: ‘Poor Sylvain – Mummy, he only ever got one present for Christmas!’ Sylvain: We probably only had three presents, and all the family would get together and have a big night on Christmas Eve. We would just have a relaxed lunch on Christmas Day. Has Freya written her letter to Father Christmas yet? Samia: She’s just making lists. She’s written Yves’s as well. Because he can’t talk yet, she said she’ll write what he wants. As he can’t speak, I’m not sure how she knows. Any advert that comes on the TV, she says: ‘Yves can have that.’ Half of them are just for her [laughs]! What’s at the top of Freya’s wish list? Samia: She did want a hamster but we managed to talk her out of that! Now a jelly maker is on the top of the list. Sylvain: I’m not sure she even likes jelly, but I think she likes the idea of making it. Samia: [Goes off to find Freya’s wish list] She wants Gooey Louie and Doggie Doo. The first one is a game where snot comes out of Louie’s nose, and the second is a game about dog poo. She has also asked for two front teeth [laughs]! So what has Freya decided Yves should get? Samia: [Gets a much shorter list] He wants a Henry Hoover. He’s obsessed with 62

Are you going to be on a January fitness regime too, Samia? When I’m busy I just train in my dressing room with my Fitness Blender workout [videos]. Now I’m not busy, I have no excuse. Sylvain: Samia doesn’t put weight on! Will you see anybody from Corrie over the Christmas break? Samia: We’ll see Jane Danson as they live just round the corner. And we’ll probably see Andy Whyment and his family at some point. Whoever is around, really. Have you seen much of Alison King since she left? Samia: We speak on the phone all the time. But we haven’t seen each other for a while. Have you two told each other what you’d like for Christmas? Samia: We’re thinking we’ll treat ourselves and get a new sofa. Sylvain: We just thought we should get something that we need. We’ll probably buy each other a smaller present. Samia: Going to Amsterdam before Christmas is a nice little treat for us, too. Is Freya in the school Christmas play? Samia: I don’t know. They had family assembly the other week and she had quite a few solo speeches, which she nailed [laughs]! She was looking for us and waving. I’m not sure what they’re doing for Christmas. But she loves school. Is Freya showing any signs of wanting to be an actress? Samia: She goes to a local musical theatre school on Thursdays and loves it. She is very dramatic. She is so much more confident than I was when I was her age. Sylvain: She tells everybody that she’s going to be in Corrie! Samia: She loves coming in to see me at work. The other week she saw one of the girls from the casting department. She did a star shape with her arms and said: ‘I’m going to be in Corrie when I grow up!’ They said they didn’t doubt it.

As well as their mini-break to Celtic Manor, the family are also taking a pre-Christmas trip to Winter Wonderland

Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Samia: Mine is always the same one – to stop worrying so much. It never works! Sylvain: If I want to do something, I do it whatever time of year it is. I try to change things straight away. Tell us about a Christmas memory you have from when you were growing up… Samia: One Christmas, my Auntie Samia’s daughter Sophie came over from Africa. She had quite a healthy appetite! My mum had cooked the turkey on Christmas Eve and left it out on the kitchen work top. We got up on Christmas morning to find my cousin had eaten the turkey during the night because she was peckish! So we had to go and get some frozen chickens from the all-night store. It was the only place we could find open! How would you sum up your 2016? Sylvain: It’s gone by in a flash! Samia: It’s gone so quickly. It only seems like five minutes ago since we were waiting for all Sylvain’s family to come over here for Christmas. Has anything changed since you became Mr and Mrs? Samia: It just feels nice that we’re married and a family. Sylvain: I get my name on the credits of Coronation Street now! What are your memories from your wedding day? Samia: It was just such a brilliant day. It was amazing. I just wish we could do it all again. This

might sound stupid, but I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as we did. Everybody said how much they loved the day. Sylvain: I think the day went smoothly – there was no drama or unexpected problems. Samia: Everybody seemed to mix well. There was no problem with the language barrier. One of my friends ended up wearing Sylvain’s auntie’s shoes! What have you done with your wedding dress? Samia: It’s still at the dry cleaners! Sylvain: It’s been there for a couple of months and my suit is there, too. We need to go and pick them up! You saved the top part of your cake. How long did it last? Samia: Until the next day. Everybody ate it. It was gorgeous! How is Freya getting on with Yves? Samia: She just adores him. It’s amazing to see how she is with him. She’s really proud and protective of him. And she’s got another new brother, too… Samia: Freya is super proud to be big sister to two brothers. She has two teddies from Frank and Yves. She sleeps with them, which is really sweet. Sylvain is planning to take his son to watch him play sport, and says: ‘He’ll probably see more of a football pitch than an ice rink!’

What changes have you seen in Yves recently? Samia: He has started walking around. He is full of energy. He doesn’t stop from the minute he wakes up. Sylvain: He’s grown a lot as well. We have to be very careful where we leave things now!

Is he sleeping through the night now? Sylvain: He’s been sleeping through for months, he’s so good. He might wake up for a few seconds, but then he goes back to sleep. Samia now just speaks to him on the baby monitor and he goes back to sleep. Samia: I think he’s always happy because he always has a full belly. Can you start to see that he has each of your personalities? Samia: He is so chilled like his daddy, but he’s a proper lad – he bashes everything. We take him everywhere with us. He’s so easy going. He’s got a good sense of humour. As long as he’s busy, he’s happy. Sylvain: He always looks like he’s got a job to do!

Does Freya have any ideas what she’d like to be when she leaves school? Samia: She has her eyes set on being a top Hollywood actress or a doctor. She’s obsessed with medical things. I think she might make a good surgeon. Sylvain: If you have a cut on your finger she’ll go: ‘Can I see?’ She’s fascinated. She loves watching the children’s programme Operation Ouch!. It’s quite graphic!

Do you have plans to do any more home improvements in the New Year? Sylvain: We’re going to convert the loft into a man cave. Only Yves and I will be allowed up there. It’s going to be a party room. We’ll see if we can fit a big-screen TV, bar, dartboard and pool table up there. Samia: I think a pool table is really heavy. It might end up coming through the bedroom ceiling and landing on our heads! Do you think you’ll stay in your present home for the next few years?

Below: Big sister Freya has not only written her own Christmas list, but also her brother’s, too! ‘Half of them are just for her,’ laughs Samia. Right: Samia as Maria in Corrie, with Shayne Ward as Aidan

Samia: Without sounding too much of an ‘actress’ about it, you have to go to places in your head that you perhaps don’t want to in order to start yourself crying. Some nights I’m absolutely drained. Is Maria looking forward to a happier 2017? Samia: I want to say yes but I don’t know [laughs]! It’s never that happy for Maria. Sylvain: I think she should get a new French boyfriend! She could go ice skating and meet him! Samia, when you first stepped onto the old Corrie set, could you have ever imagined you’d still be in the show 16 years later? I was 17. It’s half my life now. That is just mental. My original contract was for three months – it seemed like a long time at the time. I was at the Cannes Film Festival promoting the film There’s Only One Jimmy Grimble and everybody kept asking me when I was leaving Corrie.

‘having three children instead of two is a big step’ Could you ever see the day when Corrie would not be part of your life? Samia: Not at the moment. I’m really happy. I’ve literally grown up there, but that feels nice. With the storylines I’ve been getting, why would I leave? Is it funny seeing old faces like Georgia Taylor and Helen Flanagan back in Weatherfield? It’s really nice. That’s the good thing about Corrie – you can go off and do other work. If the character allows it, you can come back. It’s 14 years since Georgia was there – it seems like yesterday.

Samia: We like it here. We’ve got lovely neighbours and Freya has lots of friends on the street. Her friend bea lives across the road so it’s like open house every night after school. Sylvain: We still have room to extend the house if we want to as well. Do you have any holiday plans for 2017? Samia: I think we’re planning to go somewhere hot with the kids at easter. I’ve always wanted to go to Ibiza – I’d quite like to go there. The last two years have been busy so it would be nice if 2017 is a chilled year. How is the personal training going, Sylvain? after Christmas is my peak business time, and then again in april and May when people want to get their bodies ready for the beach! Do you fancy getting your skates back on?

Sylvain: If Dancing On Ice came back, I’d love to do it. but there aren’t many shows where I wouldn’t have to be away for a few months. I wouldn’t want to be away for such a long time.

Is there any chance of any more babies? Sylvain: Not at the moment! Having three children instead of two is a big step, but it would be cool for Yves to have a little brother. Samia: We’re just sort of getting our sleep back again now, too. It’s easier as we can take Yves to restaurants and he can eat anything. I think two is enough – but never say never! Sylvain: We’ll see. It’s not on our Christmas list! OK!

It’s been a busy year for Maria too, Samia… It’s been a busy year and pretty horrible for her, too. It’s been full-on. Since we got back from our honeymoon I’ve been working all the time.

‘christmas is the time to let it all hang out!’

celebrity chef Jamie Oliver tells OK! all about life as a dad of five, how the family will celebrate newborn son river’s first christmas, and getting back on his superfoods diet by the new year

C

hristmas for Jamie Oliver is never about having a rest. After all, the superchef has five children with his wife of 16 years, Jools. The family’s latest addition, son River Rocket, arrived in August, joining his siblings Poppy, 14, Daisy, 13, Petal, seven, and big brother Buddy, six – who loves to help Dad in the kitchen. Jamie and Jools, who’ve been together since they were 18, felt ‘battered’ by lack of sleep after River was born, and ended up employing a night nurse. ‘It hit us hard, really hard,’ admitted Jamie. ‘It’s teenagers’ things, and you’ve got a six and a seven year old as well, and they’re up as well!’ Happily, River has now settled into a routine and Jamie is adamant his family is complete – not that his opinion has counted for much in the past! After insisting they were stopping at four, he’s confessed that Jools, who’s ‘passionate’ about motherhood, convinced him to try for a fifth child: ‘She just did that thing, you know, the magic spell.’ Last week the family looked in high spirits as they visited a Christmas fair in their local Primrose Hill, north London. Eagerly snapping photos of his gorgeous brood, Jamie shared a picture of ‘great mum’ Jools and River online (below left), writing: ‘Jeeze where did all that time go since we first met, Hope you had a great day babe, love you and of course the dude that is baby River Oliver.’ Jamie’s work ethic is legendary, and involves running his restaurant empire, filming his cookery shows, launching healthy eating campaigns and writing recipe books, including his first-ever holiday-themed tome Jamie Oliver’s Christmas Cookbook. But the star, who shed two stone last year on a superfood diet, recently decided to reassess his work-life balance. ‘I’m not that happygo-lucky Naked Chef any more,’ he said. ‘I’m 41 now and although I feel in a good place, I didn’t like 40. In fact, I hated it.’ Streamlining his empire to focus on cooking, holidays and family, he’ll combine all three this month by catering for the Oliver clan on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Here, Jamie chats about his holiday plans, saucy gifts for Jools, 42, and why he needs to be extremely careful when enjoying a well-earned Christmas Day doze… What are you doing for Christmas, Jamie? It’ll just be me, Jools and the kids this year, and I’m secretly relieved not to be having 40 people over for Christmas Day. But I do love a big party, so I’ve decided to do a big Boxing Day dinner for extended family where I can big up 68

leftovers and produce that kind of supercharged smorgasbord of beautiful things. Do you ever buy Jools saucy presents? I always think it’s funny being at Agent Provocateur with ten other fellas all stood next to the sales assistant wanting help, and everyone looking uncomfortable! Is it true you proposed to Jools in a cemetery on Christmas Eve in 1999? Yes, I proposed next to her father’s grave. It was quite romantic, I swear! It sounds weird, but I was trying to make something positive out of a negative. [Jools’ father Maurice died of a stroke in 1997.] We visit the grave and take all the kids with us. It’s important to Jools and to the kids. So you’re cooking Christmas dinner and Boxing Day lunch. Do you have any help? In the last four or five years I’ve delegated jobs with careful precision. If they’re terrible cooks, I get them to buy nice cheese or booze and I’ll text them the specific brand. If they’re okay cooks, I give them one of my recipes. And if they’re really good cooks? I’ll say, dude, just do some kind of al forno [a dish baked in the oven]. Mum does the trifle. Nobody seems to mind me being bossy. Do you ever let your kids have ketchup on their Christmas dinner? Absolutely not! You don’t need ketchup when you’ve got gorgeous gravy and cranberry sauce. I do love ketchup, but if people put it on stuff like spag bol, that drives me up the wall. I’m a hypocrite, probably, because I like ketchup with fish pie, but I do have standards! What if your kids went vegetarian? My teenage girls are discussing vegetarianism now, which is fine by me. I wouldn’t care in the slightest if they stopped eating meat, as long as they’re happy

to help prepare their food. We eat veggie two or three days a week as it is. You’ve lost lots of weight by eating more superfoods. Do you fret about piling on the pounds over Christmas? Christmas dinner is pretty healthy. Roast potatoes are indulgent but lots of the other elements, like the veg, are pretty damn good. Christmas is the time to let it all hang out! I know I put on weight, so by the beginning of January I’ll be back eating superfoods from Monday to Friday. How do you relax on Boxing Day night? The Holy Grail for me is classic British television while having a little doze next to the fire. In the last few years, Buddy has jumped on me and landed on all the wrong places! This year I’ve got a cricket box to protect me – once bitten, twice shy. You’ve just written your first Christmas cookbook. What took you so long?! Sometimes I’m so stupid I don’t answer the questions that are right in front of my face. It’s ridiculous. So I’ve fixed that and I’m very proud of all the recipes in it. Tell us about your Christmas TV show... It’s me giving you the benefit of my cooking Christmas dinner for 20 years! I’ll show you how to make sure your turkey is succulent and the gravy’s ace – for me, that’s the deal-breaker. And there’s a recipe for sprouts with chorizo that nobody will turn their noses up at! OK! ‘JAMIE OLIvER’S CHRISTMAS COOkBOOk’ IS OuT NOW (MICHAEL JOSEPH, £26). ‘JAMIE’S uLTIMATE CHRISTMAS’ IS ON CHANNEL 4 ON DECEMBER 19 AT 8PM. rriving to meet Charlotte Coleman and her husband Chris at her parents’ home in Hampshire, we walk into the kitchen to find their cheeky son Finley, who turns two this month, giggling while watching Peppa Pig with his daddy. A glowing Charlotte – formerly Charlotte Jackson – meanwhile, is sitting with their adorable three-month-old daughter Indie in her arms. ‘It’s lovely having a girl but I forgot how tiring it is in the first few months!’ the Sky Sports

presenter, 38, says while giving us a tour of the house – a hunting lodge set in eight acres of stunning Hampshire countryside. Charlotte and 46-year-old Chris, who is the manager of the Welsh national football team, have certainly had a busy few years. In almost five years together, they’ve had two babies, as well as a wedding on May 16, 2015. This year also saw Chris take Wales to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 – going further than England! Charlotte fell pregnant with their second child when Finley was just 11 months old, and they welcomed Indie Lilly Rose, who weighed 9lb 1oz, on August 13 this year. Charlotte tells OK!: ‘The last four years have been amazing. We met, had Finley, got married, and then had Indie. We feel extremely lucky.’ After hanging up her Sky mic for another year of maternity leave, Charlotte is looking forward to getting back to work next summer. ‘I went back to work pregnant, so as soon as I was back, I had to tell my boss I would be off again!’ she reveals. Here, Charlotte and Chris – who also has four children from a previous marriage, Sonny, 23, Christy, 22, Faraday, 18, and Georgie, 17 – chat to OK! about sleepless nights with their poorly newborn, their Christmas plans and their whirlwind four years… Congratulations on the birth of Indie… Chris: Thank you, she’s absolutely beautiful. She’s completed the set now, we’ve got a boy and a girl. But she’s been a bit ill lately.

Above: ‘Indie is really smiley and laid back,’ says Charlotte of her little girl. Right: The presenter is taking a break from Sky Sports 70

Charlotte: It’s lovely having a girl but I forgot how tiring it is in the first few months! She got bronchiolitis so she had this hacking cough and a high temperature. She was awake all night because her coughing was so painful. How is she now? Charlotte: She’s much better, but I was on my own with her one night and her temperature reached 39.8 degrees. She had a febrile seizure where her legs and arms started shaking. In a total panic, I called my friend who told me to stay calm and undress her. It was scary. How was the labour? Charlotte: I was induced ten days after my due date. They didn’t want me to go two weeks over because of the size of Finley when he was born – he was 9lb 10oz. The doctors started the induction with a pessary [where a small device is inserted to soften the cervix, bringing on labour] but everything stopped overnight. The next morning I was put on a drip, which worked much better and suddenly things happened really quickly. She arrived at midday. Chris: Indie was a less complicated labour than Finley, but Charlotte was in a lot of pain. I never felt a thing! Charlotte: I was grabbing Chris’s biceps because I was in so much pain. Chris: [To Charlotte] I’m surprised you could find them! What happened when you had Finley? Charlotte: Because he was so big I had to have an episiotomy [a surgical cut] and I suffered horrific tears. They had to use forceps to get him out, so I had to sit on a rubber ring for weeks afterwards. The doctors said they’d have given me a C-section, but by the time they realised how big he was, it was too late. Were you scared about the same happening with Indie? Charlotte: Yes, I was so nervous. I had a scan at the end of June and the doctors didn’t want the same thing happening, but they said to me: ‘Don’t worry, she won’t be over seven and a half pounds,’ but she was 9lb 1oz. I was in the delivery room and suddenly I was like, oh my God, I need an epidural now! But there wasn’t time for one. Did you have any other pain relief? Charlotte: None. I can’t even describe the pain, but the midwives were amazing. I could feel

exactly where to push and I didn’t tear this time at all. Part of me thinks I could never do it again, but another part of me thinks I would because we were out of hospital the same day. Chris, you were in France with the Wales team this summer for the Euros. Did you worry you’d miss the birth? Yes, but I wouldn’t have missed it. Charlotte: I was convinced she was coming early so it was nerve-wracking going over to France to see Chris. I went over a few times on the Eurostar with his son, Sonny, although I didn’t want to give birth with my stepson on a train! Chris: Wales don’t play for another three months so I’m looking forward to spending more time at home. Charlotte is up most of the night feeding Indie and I get up with Finley so Charlotte can have more sleep. Finley’s well into his football, so every morning is breakfast and football. Charlotte: Indie went to her first football match, Wales versus Georgia, when she was under two months old! Chris, it must have been amazing to get to the semi-finals at this year’s Euros... 72

It was an incredible achievement for the team and all the fans were brilliant. It wasn’t about getting further than England, it was getting as far as Wales could. Charlotte, her parents, Finley and Sonny came to the England game in the group stages [where England beat Wales 2-1]. Charlotte and Sonny did a lot of travelling coming

‘the first month i was like, how will i cope with two?’ to each game, and I was quite worried about Charlotte doing so much travelling while being pregnant, but I’m glad she did. Has having two young children put pressure on your relationship? Charlotte: Sleep deprivation does. You can get ratty, but that’s just the first few months and you

can joke about it. We’re lucky because Indie is really smiley and laid back. Where did her name come from? Charlotte: We’ve always loved the name India, but I have a friend with that name so I didn’t want to copy it. My granny’s middle name was Lillian and Chris’s granny was Rose, so she’s Indie Lilly Rose Coleman. Have you moved house? Charlotte: We moved to Winchester in June. I was very heavily pregnant and Chris was at the Euros. We love the space and it’s near my mates and parents, but most of my work is in London so I’m hoping I’ll win the lottery so we can buy a flat in London, too! Chris: All my children came over the other week and we went out for a Sunday roast. Charlotte: It’s hectic with all of us, but so nice. Did you always want your children to be close in age, Charlotte? Yes, because so many of my friends are trying and it’s taking them ages. I do feel for people who are really struggling – it must be so stressful.

How is the breastfeeding going? Charlotte: i was lucky, indie latched on straight away. she had formula after the second week and she took to both bottle and boob well. new mothers shouldn’t worry if they can’t breastfeed. if the baby is constantly crying out of hunger, that’s more stressful. i express at 10.30pm, then give her formula in the middle of the night, then breastfeed her in the morning. chris is doing more night feeds, too. Would you breastfeed in public? Charlotte: it’s sad when places have signs up, saying: ‘we welcome breastfeeding,’ because it should be welcomed everywhere! i have a sling over me when i’m out. i was in a southampton shopping centre with indie and finley and i was feeding under the sling, and two young lads said to me: ‘hey! you’re charlotte Jackson from sky sports!’ but as soon as they realised what i was doing, they looked so embarrassed! Did breastfeeding help you lose your baby weight? Charlotte: yes, because it helps your uterus contract. i never weighed myself, but i was definitely bigger this time. my maternity jeans were always too big with finley, but this time they were tight by the seventh month. i’m back into my normal jeans now. i haven’t dieted but it’s about finding the time to exercise. i’ve done the odd run and one home workout, but i feel better if i’m fitter. Have you had any baby blues? Charlotte: the first month i was like, how will i cope with two? and then i got through my first bath time with them both. you just have to be organised and then it becomes second nature. i’ve felt more tired, but probably because i’m putting the toddler first because they’re more demanding. Chris: finley’s life is our life at the moment. his birthday next month is all about Peppa Pig! How long will you take off work, Charlotte? probably a year, but i need to sort out some childcare. i took a year off with finley, but i’ve already done something for children in need and heart radio and some hosting jobs, which i loved. Are you planning on getting some more help? Charlotte: finley goes to nursery two days a week and it’s been nice having time with the new baby. i’ve thought about a nanny, but children have more fun at nursery. my mum did a lot to help, but she’s broken her kneecap so she’s out of action for a bit. Would you like more kids? Chris: you never know. we always wanted two. Charlotte: if i was younger, yes – but my last pregnancy was harder. i had really bad circulation in my legs, they felt so sore. looking after a toddler took its toll, too. part of me would like another one but i’m lucky to have a healthy boy and girl. i always wanted a girl. never say never, but it’s tiring and i’m getting on a bit! You’ve had a whirlwind few years. Are you looking forward to a calmer 2017?

Above: ‘I always wanted my children close together,’ says Charlotte. Top left: The couple on their wedding day on May 16, 2015 Chris: that’ll be nice! Charlotte: hopefully we’ll get away with the kids because we haven’t had a holiday while chris has been working. we went to champneys for our anniversary, but i was pregnant so i couldn’t drink. What else is in store for the New Year? Charlotte: we’re going to have a big joint christening and a nice outdoor party for them both next summer. Chris: when we had finley, we’d go out to the cinema as a couple and when indie gets a bit older we’ll get back to that. we have date nights at home now. as soon as finley has gone to bed,

we’ll sit down at 7pm for a bite to eat and a glass of red wine. What are you doing for Christmas? Chris: we’ll see charlotte’s parents on christmas day and i’ll see my side of the family on boxing day. it’s hectic, but enjoyable. Charlotte: i was looking forward to having a relaxing one and enjoying my mum’s cooking, but because she’s broken her knee, me and my brothers are cooking christmas dinner now! ‘perrie and jesy are the party animals!’ little mix reveal why splitting up from a boyfriend isn’t all bad, what they get up to on a night out and why they’re happy to pile on the pounds at christmas

T

here are very few girl bands who have had as much success as Little Mix. Since winning The X Factor in 2011, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock have gone on to take the world’s music charts by storm. With their most recent album Glory Days shooting straight in at number one and a world tour kicking off next year, it’s little wonder they have any time to do anything else, yet somehow they manage to maintain their amazing figures. When OK! catches up with Little Mix at the launch of their USA Pro clothing range, they’re all looking healthy and happy, despite some recent heartbreak within the band. Perrie has opened up about her painful break-up with former One Direction star Zayn Malik, while Jesy recently split from her fiancé Jake Roche – he hasn’t spoken about the split, but he’s said to have taken to the recording studio to pour his feelings out in a break-up song. Thankfully, they’re not letting heartbreak get them down, with Jesy telling us: ‘Whenever any of us end a relationship we all get hot bodies!’ Here we talk to Jesy and Leigh-Anne, both 25, and Perrie and Jade, both 23, about staying in shape, relaxing over the Christmas period and drunken nights out…

The girls celebrate their album Glory Days going to number one

What’s a Little Mix night out like? Jesy: Messy! We get so drunk, it’s so much fun. As soon as we get a bit of drink down us, we think we’re Beyoncé! How do you keep fit over the festive season? Perrie: We don’t! It’s all about after the Christmas season. Jesy: You’ve got to be a fatty at Christmas. Leigh-Anne: I live near a river so I’m going to go for some jogs and bike rides and take the dogs out.

Is it hard fitting in working out with your busy schedule? Jesy: We dance a lot so that keeps us fit and healthy. We have [make-up artist and hair stylist] Adam and Aaron looking after our faces. If this make-up wasn’t here, it would be a different story! Jade, you once said you love Greggs – is that your guilty pleasure? Me and Perrie love stodgy northern food. I’ve got a Toby Carvery next door to me – I’m there all the time! Who is the most likely to go wild on a night out? Jade: Perrie and Jesy are the party animals! Perrie: We never used to be like that, though. Jesy: No, we were caged [laughs]!

Are you all getting excited about Christmas? Jade: Mine and Perrie’s families live up north so Christmas is the one time we get to be with them. It’s hard not seeing your family, especially next year as we’re touring all year so we’re going to be all over the world. It’s worth it, though. After you split up with someone, do you turn to the gym or food for comfort? Jesy: Me and Leigh-Ann exercise, and Jade and Perrie reach for the ice cream. Jade: Don’t you think whenever any of us ends a relationship we all get hot bodies? Whenever one of us goes through a break-up we have that post-break-up glow going on. Perrie: Everyone loves a break-up diet! You’ve come under fire for your skimpy outfits recently – is it hard being role models to so many young girls? Jesy: We were never like, right, we’re going to be role models – we’re going to do this and we want people to follow us. We’ll wear whatever we want and if we feel comfortable in it, that’s all that matters. We don’t really care what anyone else thinks about it. If you don’t like it then don’t watch us or look at our pictures! How did you start working with USA Pro? Jade: We’ve always been into fitness so when they approached us about doing a range it was kind of a nobrainer. We thought the market was missing clothes that are comfortable, affordable and fashionable. We’ve designed stuff that will suit all different shapes and sizes. OK!

arty season tends to throw a few fashion-related curveballs our way. I’m talking too many flammablelooking dresses that resemble Bacofoil and novelty accessories that should be chucked on your tree – or better, on your log fire! Then, in steps Monsoon. When the brand was founded 40 years ago, the designs were inspired by a trip across Asia, which is why they’ve got ethnic details and bohemian accents totally nailed to this day. Throw in some of this season’s Victoriana cuts and silhouettes and you’ve got sophisticated occasion wear with a bit of much-needed individuality. I salute you, Monsoon! Go to uk.monsoon.co.uk.

EVER WONDERED WHERE CELEBRITIES GO FOR THEIR FACIALS? OK! TRIED OUT THE BEST TREATMENTS ON THE MARKET… HEAVEN BEEPEEL FACIAL Price: From £55 for 30 minutes at Heaven salons, or £200 with Deborah Mitchell. Tester: Annabel Zammit, assistant editor. Celebrity fans: Gwyneth Paltrow (right centre), Kylie Minogue (far right), Simon Cowell and the Duchess of Cornwall. The lowdown: Celebrity facialist Deborah Mitchell treats a roster of A-listers – even the Duchess of Cambridge is said to have had a bee venom facial in the run-up to her wedding to Prince William. Deborah created the Bee Sting products used in the facial, which contain the patented anti-ageing formulation abeetoxin – a natural alternative to Botox, found in Kenyan bee hives. She says: ‘This unique treatment has been specially created

using natural and organic ingredients. It has an instant anti-ageing effect, leaving you looking and feeling instantly younger.’ The results: The BeePeelTM is the perfect pre-Christmas party pep up. The speedy treatment is relaxing and rejuvenating, due to the unique facial massage techniques. My face was glowing and my skin felt plump and youthful. Rating: 8 out of 10. More information: Visit www.heavenskincare.com.

CRySTAL CLEAR COMCIT FACIAL Price £100 for 60 minutes at Skin Health Spa. Tester: Clare Fisher, news editor. Celebrity fans: Sadie Frost, Jorgie Porter and Melanie Sykes (left). The lowdown: COMCIT stands for Cryo Oxygen Th Micro-channelling Collagen Induction Therapy, which is a semi-invasive needling treatment. After a thorough cleanse with the Crystal Clear Cleanser, cold oxygen was pushed into my skin to stimulate and energise. The micro-channelling roller – a bit like a lint roller covered with tiny spikes – was then applied, allowing vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and argan stem cell extract to penetrate deeply. After another oxygen infusion, a delicious-smelling moisturising mask was applied. My therapist talked me through the facial aftercare, which involves avoiding swimming and hot baths as well as wearing an SPF20 or higher for two days post-treatment. The results: The machine is noisy and the needles are slightly uncomfortable, but the frown line between my eyes disappeared and my husband complimented my postfacial glow, completely unprompted! Rating: 8 out of 10. More information: Visit www.skinhealthspa. com and www.crystalclear.co.uk.

Above: Gwyneth Paltrow is a fan of Deborah Mitchell’s BeePeelTM, as is Kylie Minogue (left)

SARAH CHAPMAN BESPOKE FACIAL WITH LED LIGHT THERAPy Price: £170 for 90 minutes at Sarah Chapman Boutique. Tester: Kirsty Hatcher, staff writer. Celebrity fan: Victoria Beckham (right) says: ‘The best facial I’ve ever had was by Sarah Chapman.’ The lowdown: After analysing my skin and discussing my regime, therapist Steph started with a deep clean, followed by exfoliation and steaming. Problem areas were then worked on to reduce blackheads. I was treated to a massage

which left my skin feeling plumped and toned, before a luxurious vitamin mask was applied. The final step was a burst of LED Light Therapy, a painfree process that encourages healing and collagen production. The results: This was the best facial I’ve ever had! My skin instantly looked clearer and brighter and felt softer. Blemishes and cheek redness were reduced. Rating: 10 out of 10. More information: See www.sarah chapman.net.

THE WOW FACTOR FACIAL Price: £295 for 75 minutes at Liz Earle Store. Tester: Katie LangfordFoster, editorial assistant. Celebrity fan: Sarah Jessica Parker (right). The lowdown: Liz Earle’s treatment ambassador Abigail James is known as the ‘Beyoncé of skincare’, and for good reason! After an in-depth consultation, Abigail incorporates a variety of products, massage techniques and technologies into each treatment. These might include LED Light Therapy, CACI MicroCurrent Technology or Venus Viva Diamond Lift/Firm FX. I’ve suffered from acne-prone skin for most of my life, and Abigail first explained

how to combat this by changing my diet and improving my skincare routine. Catering to my oily skin-type, she then treated my face with oxygen and a highfrequency treatment with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. This was followed by the usual blissfully relaxing cleanse, exfoliation and moisturising. The results: Days later, my skin had a glow that definitely wasn’t there before. Following Abigail’s dietary advice, I noticed a drastic improvement in my complexion, too. Rating: 9 out of 10. More information: Visit uk.lizearle.com. WWW.OK.CO.UK 91

Price: £80 for 45 minutes at Liberty London. Tester: Yasmine Griffiths, health editor. Celebrity fans: Zoë Ball (left) and model Lily Cole are devotees of Dermalogica products. The lowdown: This facial kicked off with Dermalogica’s signature skin mapping, before the brand’s new IonActive Power Treatment concentrates – which promise to tackle the hyperpigmentation and dehydration associated with ageing – were applied. A firm yet relaxing massage pushed the active ingredients deeper. The results: My skin looked instantly brighter and the dark circles underneath my eyes disappeared. However, there was no extraction. Rating: 8 out of 10. More information: See www.dermalogica.co.uk.

The nouveau a-liFT Price: From £30 at The Hale Clinic. Tester: Laura Hills, entertainment editor. Celebrity fans: Ellie Goulding, Alicia Vikander and Lisa Snowdon (right). The lowdown: Based on the latest nano-current technology, this 100 per cent natural treatment promises to help reverse skin ageing. I sampled a 60-minute treatment with facialist Julia Hart. A current

was driven into my skin to help cells regenerate. It also drains the lymph nodes. The results: There was a slight prickling sensation, but it was pain-free. Ten treatments are advised for long-lasting results, but my skin had a glow and looked visibly firmer in minutes. Rating: 8 out of 10. More information: Go to www.nouveaubeauty group.com and www.juliahart.co.uk.

ormer darts player Eric Bristow [below right] has branded footballers ‘wimps’ for not coming forward sooner after being sexually abused, which is disgusting. He said that the abuse victims were not ‘proper men’ because they didn’t ‘sort out’ their abusers in later life. It’s uneducated, irresponsible tweets like this that are all part of the problem. I tweeted Eric to say what a disgrace it was. His apology was too late, I’m glad he was sacked by Sky Sports. ast week I did a naked bump shoot with Karis Kennedy, who’s also shot Abbey Clancy and rochelle Humes. I was so nervous but it’s done tastefully. I love black and white art, so it’ll be nice to have up on the wall. Speaking of bumps, Cheryl was out last week showing a very prominent one [right]. She still hasn’t confirmed she’s pregnant, but I agree with Lorraine Kelly, who said: ‘It’s not something you can hide!’ My own bump was on show at my baby shower. I wore a stunning Isabella oliver dress. I want to thank my amazing hairdresser Malcolm Murphy and my make-up artist Kathryn Kift [left] for creating my look. The party favours were really pretty necklaces with a button on them [left] from Sparkling Jewellery. I wear a lot of their pieces, so it was nice to share something lovely from them with my friends.

hear Marilyn speak about her charity last week, which was such an eyeopener. Child abuse damages for life and it’s irreparable. I congratulated Piers Morgan [left] in person last Wednesday for giving Eric such a hard time on Good Morning Britain. Piers came over to our house to interview Jamie [left] – I love Piers, we always have good banter and I take the mickey out of him. With its idyllic sun-soaked shores, it’s no wonder Langkawi is a celebrity favourite. Made In Chelsea’s Tiffany Watson holidayed here earlier this year, while former Loose Women presenter Carol McGiffin is a huge fan of the island. The best time to star spot in KL is during the Grand Prix. Head to Marini’s on 57, a stylish Italian restaurant and rooftop bar on the 57th floor of Petronas Tower 3. As we savoured our Mellow Sundown cocktail gazing out at the iconic 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers, we were told that this hip hotspot attracts stars such as F1 ace Lewis Hamilton, Nicole Scherzinger, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tiger Woods.

OK! took a 20-minute taxi ride out of town to experience Malaysia’s rainforest in all its glory. On arrival at FRIM (the Forest Research Institute Malaysia) in Kepong, our eco tour guides Andrew and Whide took us on a hike through the rainforest canopy, pointing out interesting flora and fauna as we journeyed. The five canopy walkways, which are suspended 30m above ground, certainly aren’t for the fainthearted, but the surrounding greenery is just beautiful. As you descend the trail you’ll pass a couple of cascading waterfalls, where we took a refreshing dip. KL also has an exciting food scene, ranging from hawker stalls to Michelinstarred restaurants. A good place to try street food is at Wong Ah Wah on Jalan Alor Street, where we ordered the restaurant’s famous honey and soy-coated barbecued chicken wings and grilled stingray, before trying the world’s smelliest fruit, the durian. It certainly tastes better than its pungent aroma! We also visited Vishal Food in Brickfields (Little India), where we were presented with a tasty feast of curries, dhal and an array of condiments served on a banana leaf.

the new St Regis Kuala Lumpur is the epitome of sophisticated glamour. The ultraluxurious 208-room hotel is a soaring skyscraper landmark in the city’s Sentral district, close to the Lake Gardens – the city’s largest park – and National Museum. OK! checked into the Caroline Astor Suite, a superspacious room with its own living room, walk-in wardrobe, en-suite massage room and 24/7 butler. Our favourite spot, however, was the bathtub, with its amazing views over the KL skyline. The St Regis has long been associated with polo, and you’ll find a striking 11ft bronze sculpture of a horse in the hotel’s Drawing Room, as well as two giant leather murals of polo players in the lobby. The St Regis New York claims to have invented the Bloody Mary and all the hotels have their own version, so we just had to try the spicy Asam Boi version – infused with paprika, Tabasco, tomato juice and homemade asam (preserved plum) syrup – in the hotel’s Astor Bar. Afterwards, we enjoyed a Birthday Cake cocktail – complete with sprinkles – at the Crystal rooftop bar, before heading inside for melt-in-the-mouth Hokkaido scallops and royal king crab with green chilli paste.

Swapping cityscapes for sandy beaches, OK! hopped on a one-hour flight to Langkawi. Upon arrival, we were driven to the St Regis Langkawi in the hotel’s Bentley and discovered that this level of luxury would run throughout our stay at the newly opened five-star resort. The all-suite hotel, set on a beautiful sheltered sandy cove, is fringed by centuries-old rainforests, and longtail macaque monkeys Enjoy dinner swing from the trees and cocktails on the drive up to the at Kayuputi reception. In contrast, it’s also a monument to sleek modernity, boasting opulent public spaces, acres of marble, bespoke artworks and eye-catching light fixtures. With 85 suites and four over-water villas, OK!’s pool suite came with a private butler, Suhaimi, who whisked away our creased clothes and brought them back freshly pressed, just in time for cocktail hour! Days were spent catching rays by the hotel’s infinity pool and lounging on a hammock on the sandy beach, looking out at the forested islands in the distance or swimming in the sheltered lagoon.

What are the hotel highlights?

The hotel has six places to eat and drink, and OK!’s favourite was Kayuputi, an Asian-fusion restaurant that sits on stilts above the sparkling waters of the Andaman Sea. Canvas hammocks extend from the white-wooden structure, where we enjoyed our Sunset cocktail of tequila, Cointreau and mango purée. Dining underneath seashell chandeliers in the dining room, menu highlights included roasted cod with a squid ink wafer and traditional Malaysian pulled tea ice cream with a coconut crumble. Another favourite spot was the St Regis Bar, with its striking modern wood etchings, where we tried the Lang Bloody Mary, infused with tamarind and lemongrass. OK! also signed up for a cooking class at the hotel’s L’Orangerie. Under the watchful eye of chef Halim, we learnt how to cook spicy Wagyu beef rendang and the delicious butter coral lobster. The best part was getting to eat our creations at the end! Make THaiLanD sure you ViETnam book a Langkawi treatment ● ● at the kuaLa hotel’s Lumpur mpur Iridium inDOnESia maLaySia Spa, an oasis of

he remarkable tale of Vinny Pazienza is one that was always destined to be captured on film. The former professional boxer held titles for lightweight, light middleweight and supermiddleweight at various points in his career, but was exceptional not just for his successful leaps up the weight classes. Bleed For This is based on his comeback from a spinal injury and it’s a sensational true tale, with a film script to match. Miles Teller attacks the role of the ‘Pazmanian Devil’ with every ounce of grit and determination you’d expect, and his passionate portrayal will tug at heart strings as he struggles to come to terms with his horrifying injury. The closing scenes are perhaps a little clichéd, but what’s a boxing movie without some slow-mo and jaw-breaking sound effects? A must-see for the pugilists out there. KLF ★★★ OuT NOw

Happy birTHday To my girl!

milie turned 19 last week and we had a lovely weekend of celebrations! For Mother’s Day the kids gave me a silver angel pendant on a necklace to represent Archie [Kym’s late son]. So for Emilie’s birthday I bought her a matching angel pendant for her charm bracelet. She loved it and I could tell it really meant a lot to her. No words were needed when I gave it to her on Saturday, which was her birthday. She just came over to me and we hugged really tightly. I also bought her a bronze Michael Kors watch, and we presented her with a drunk Barbie birthday cake! It was a dark-haired Barbie doll with her head in a toilet [below]. I got it made for her and everyone thought it was very funny – and apt for a girl her age! At 19, no one can take their drink – we’ve all been there. It also featured two miniature bottles of vodka, which Emilie made everyone take a shot from at the dinner table. Emilie’s got a very infectious personality and you just have to do what she says – even me! – so I had a shot. It’s hard to believe my eldest girl is all grown up and I’m so proud of the woman she’s become. Emilie’s beautiful, talented, fiercely loyal and she makes me laugh every day. She’s the best daughter I could ask for and the best sister to David and Polly.

We’re very similar and she’s inherited my feisty side. She also has the ability to make me madder than I thought I could get without murdering someone, but we’re also best friends and I feel lucky to say that about my daughter. That’s the reason she invited me out with her friends on Saturday night to Club Liv in Manchester [right, with Emilie’s boyfriend Matty]. A group of about 16 of her friends went out and I met them later after I’d been for dinner at Rosso with a few friends. I didn’t want to stay out too late. It’s lovely that she still wants me to join her and we had a great time and the champagne was flowing, but gone are the days when I roll in at four in the morning!

e’ve been filming night shoots for Corrie recently [left, Kym with Tristan gemmill, who plays Robert Preston] and last week we were out in the freezing cold – it was minus three degrees! My feet felt like blocks of ice – I couldn’t bend my toes by the end of the evening! We finished up at 3am and I went straight home and snuck into bed beside Matt, who was fast asleep. Matt’s very supportive and I’m very lucky. There are some big storylines coming up for my character Michelle in the New year, but I can’t tell you any more – my lips are sealed!

ongratulations to Natasha Hamilton, who has got engaged to her boyfriend Charles gay [below]. I’ve chatted to Natasha when we’ve been out and about in Manchester and she’s lovely. She’s had a bit of stick on social media about moving on so soon, as she only split from her former fiancé Ritchie Neville earlier this year. My view is that as long as she’s happy, that’s

what counts. Nobody knows the ins and outs of anyone else’s relationship. I’ve also been criticised for moving on too quickly in the past but, like most people, I’ve had long-term relationships that haven’t worked out. you move on whenever feels right for you. I think everyone should follow their heart. Sometimes you have to be cautious, but Natasha is in a place where she feels ready to make that commitment, so I think people should leave her be. After all, it’s happy news!

a bump says more THan words W hen Cheryl stepped out wearing a tight dress with her coat undone showing a big bump last week, it was confirmation enough that she’s expecting! I know some people think she should just come out and say it, but pregnancy can be scary – take it from someone who knows more than most. Perhaps Cheryl hasn’t wanted to shout it from the rooftops and wants to keep it private. When you are in the public eye, people want to know about every bit of your life and it’s hard to keep things private. I think when Cheryl was pictured looking happy and proud with Liam [Payne, her boyfriend] last week, it was her way of letting people know. OK!

helicopter into a war zone and he’d probably fear that less. Maybe he just doesn’t want to look like an idiot.

What was it like being asked by Prince Harry to form a choir for the Invictus Games? Absolutely incredible. It now ranks as my most favourite project ever, although it was my most difficult, too.

You joked on Twitter that you’ll enter X Factor as ‘G Honey’ next year… Honey G was so fun. If you’ve got nerves of steel, why not put your Waitrose trolley to one side and come on and be a rapper?

Why was it so difficult? It was just emotionally difficult. I was drained afterwards. The singers and I went through the wringer to create that song [Flesh And Blood]. We had to bare our souls.

What are your plans for Christmas? We’ll be at home with the family, cooking a goose – it’s much tastier than turkey. Once you’re a parent, it’s all about the togetherness and the food. I don’t care about presents anymore.

What was it like meeting Prince Harry? He’s a lovely, lovely guy. Very easy to talk to and incredibly committed to these charitable causes. I’m not trying to flatter him, but he was exactly as you’d hope.

Tell us about your new album… We’ve got bell ringers, gospel choirs, community choirs, saxophonists – all sorts of different elements to create an impression of a British Christmas.

Prince Harry claims he can’t sing – could you help him? I think he’s chicken! Blokes seem to fear singing like nothing else. You can send Prince Harry in an Apache

Did you include a track from Frozen at the request of your daughter? No, the one that’s for my daughter is O Come All Ye Faithful,

sung by the Team GB ladies’ hockey team. Last Christmas we were watching Carols From Kings on TV and she asked me why there were only boys singing it, so it was important for me to get that on the album. Every dad has to be a feminist. Are you hoping to secure the Christmas number one? I’d love a number one album but I’m up against the Rolling Stones. Mick Jagger once rang me to ask me to form a choir for him and he was charm itself, so if he beats me I’ll be okay with that! You’ll also be up against the Military Wives Choir, too. Will that be awkward? [Joking] Obviously my album is much better and if they beat me I’ll be furious, but I’ll still wish them well!

Gareth with the Military Wives Choir

Your wife Becky must be proud of all you’ve achieved... She’s very proud, but I’m very proud of her, too. I get lots of tweets from people who’ve enjoyed my show, but she’s a teacher at an inner city secondary school and nobody thanks her. She’s the real hero. OK! his year has been a stellar one for choirmaster Gareth Malone OBE. Last summer, at the request of Prince Harry, he formed a choir of war veterans for the Invictus Games. More recently, he’s been back on BBC Two scouring the UK for the nation’s best amateur choir. Now, he’s rounding off the year with his new album, A Great British Christmas, featuring festive classics sung by community choirs. Gareth, who lives in London with his wife Becky, a teacher, and their children – Esther, six, and three-year-old Gilbert – isn’t afraid to speak his mind, recently claiming that pop star Adele is ‘wrecking her voice’ with her singing style! Here, the cheeky 41 year old chats about meeting Prince Harry, being a feminist and why his wife is ‘the real hero’…

He’s the best! We do circuits and running. It’s quite high-intensity cardio but I haven’t been for a couple of weeks because I’m so exhausted at the moment. I’m just trying to get back into it slowly with some good music.

What’s your least favourite? I have problems with my hips sometimes, but if I’m feeling confident I put on a tighter dress. Do you have a celebrity body idol? No, I don’t really have one. I just go with how I want to look as my inspiration! Are you body confident? I think so, when I’m doing my training. I feel good then but obviously everyone has their ups and downs. The majority of the time I’m body confident. Do you ever rope your mum Jane into working out with you? I actually have occasionally! On rowing machines and the bikes, but I think she just likes to look like she’s doing something when actually she’s not. It’s quite funny and quite sweet. She’ll be on her phone taking photos with a full face of make-up on, looking glamorous as always!

Binky has occasionally worked out with her mum!

What do you listen to when you work out? A mixture of house or rap to keep me going.

What are your views on cosmetic surgery? I think whoever wants to get it done has their own reasons and opinions, but personally, it’s not for me.

Do you take any supplements? No, I don’t feel like I need to. Whatever comes off a tree or a plant is good for you and whatever doesn’t isn’t. I don’t like putting something strange in my body!

How do you fit your workout into your day?

Do you dress around your shape? Yeah, of course. If I’m having a fat day I’ll whack on a baggier jumper and get the legs out!

I’m living in them, and they’re such great quality. We also have a few Christmas dresses [right], which are beautifully fitted, so I think lots of people will be rocking them for their festivities!

With on/off boyfriend and co-star Josh ‘JP’ Patterson

Binky works out with Tyrone Brennand

Do the Made In Chelsea girls wear your collection? Stephanie [Pratt] loves my stuff actually and she wears a lot of it. Frankie [Gaff] buys a lot, too, which is funny because I’m like: ‘I can just give it to you!’ It’s sweet, though, because it’s nice to have that support. OK! Has taking a break affected your fitness levels? I don’t really lose my fitness so I think I just need to smash out a session. I’m just a bit tired at the moment and you’ve got to listen to your body. If you’re not feeling up for it then you’ve got to let yourself have a little rest or you could injure yourself.

What’s your favourite body part? I love my legs!

kylie minogue Kylie with Joshua Sasse last month at the ARIA Awards in Sydney

the eternal pop princess who finally seems to be lucky in love

I

t’s been three decades since pint-sized pop star Kylie Minogue first graced our screens as feisty mechanic Charlene Mitchell in Australian soap Neighbours. Her on-screen union with Scott Robinson was mirrored in real life when she and Jason Donovan stepped out of Ramsay Street and into the charts with hit duet Especially For You. As the shaggy-permed good girl morphed into a sex kitten in hotpants, Can’t Get You Out Of My Head blared from gay bars and straight clubs across the world. To add to the shedding of the squeaky clean 1980s image, the singer began dating a string of wild rockers and pretty toyboys. But ever the down-to-earth girl next door, Kylie, now 48, never gives away too much. ‘Most gay icons have had tragedy in their life but I’ve only had tragic haircuts and outfits,’ she says. Of course, Kylie has had her fair share of trauma. The death of ex-boyfriend Michael Hutchence for one, and then there’s the breast cancer she bravely battled. But she’s hung on to her crown for almost three decades in a ruthlessly changeable pop scene.

With Charlie Schlatter in 1989’s The Delinquents

The eldest of three siblings, Kylie was born in Melbourne, Australia, where her parents were supportive but not pushy of her showbiz aspirations, and Kylie herself was realistic: ‘When I left school I signed on the dole so I could focus on getting parts. I was completely prepared for the long haul and then, almost straight away, I got a part in Neighbours.’ The petite blonde was an instant hit as Charlene Mitchell and, when the cast assembled to perform for a charity concert, the world also learned Kylie could sing. A local label put out a single which led to the 19 year old being pursued by songwriting and producing trio Stock Aitken Waterman, who invited her to London. The result was a lifelong career, with the self-confessed Anglophile calling Britain her home. ‘At that age in your life when you are separating from your family, becoming independent and becoming your own person, I happened to be here,’ she said. ‘I was just absorbing all the culture, as much as I could, around me at the time. Maybe that feeling’s why I stayed.’ Kylie wasn’t the only Neighbours cast member to cross

Releases new Christmas album Kylie Christmas: Snow Queen Edition. Plays two dates at the Royal Albert Hall.

Spinning Around in those hotpants in 2000 travelling all through europe, we went on the orient express, we ate incredible food, we drank, we laughed, we just did whatever we wanted. it was the most incredible adventure. it was the first time in my life i’d put on a few pounds because i just didn’t care. he was an incredible man. i miss him.’ the singer went on to date a string of tall, dark and handsome men, from actor olivier martinez, who she dated for four years from 2003, and model andrés Velencoso, who she dated for five years from 2008, to rumoured flings with Jay kay, robbie Williams and lenny kravitz. but she has never married, and often lamented her lack of marital bliss and family life, saying: ‘i haven’t got children. it just didn’t happen for me. but now i get to spend time with my nephews.’ she is also a notorious workaholic, producing album after album and receiving award after accolade.

After leaving school and signing on the dole, Kylie got a part in Neighbours ‘almost straight away’ the pond and take a chance at pop success. among the familiar faces from the soap was kylie’s on and off-screen boyfriend Jason donovan. the pair sang together on the extremely successful Especially For You, answering the prayers of teens across the nation. kylie has later described their relationship as clinging to each other amid the sudden tidal wave of fame, saying: ‘We knew what each other was going through, there was a level of understanding.’ after the chart-topping success of debut album Kylie and followup Enjoy Yourself, the singer found herself branching out from the bubblegum pop that had launched her. she ended her relationship with Jason and began stepping out with an altogether edgier fellow

australian michael hutchence. she recalls: ‘i met a new person and i fell in love. yes, he was this wild guy, he was the rocker, he was all of that. but i’m always at pains to say, he was byron-esque, he was poetic, he was cultured and hilarious and tender, he was all of these other things.’ she and the bad boy inxs frontman hit the headlines as an unlikely couple from 1989 to 1991. the Locomotion singer cropped and bleached her trademark perm and took a role in racy flick The Delinquents. looking back, she reflects on how the public attributed her change to her new man. ‘on the inside it didn’t seem like that. it wasn’t like i changed my image overnight, it just happened,’ she says. ‘i guess i was at the

perfect age, i was 21 years old, to get the butterfly wings and go out into the world and we collided at that time and i guess he just fasttracked some of it. anyway, it was a glorious time. i loved it.’ the pair parted when michael left her for model helena christensen. kylie was said to have been heartbroken. six years after their split, the inxs singer – who was then dating paula yates – was found dead in his sydney hotel room. the tabloids jumped all over the scandalous rumours around the cause of death; autoerotic asphyxiation. kylie was devastated and still is. in her recent appearance on the popular Desert Island Discs, she dedicated a song to him, recalling their time together with fondness: ‘We took a holiday

in 2005, while on tour, the singer discovered she had breast cancer. after radiotherapy and chemo, she underwent a mastectomy. but she recovered and came out the other side a more reflective and complete person, saying: ‘being diagnosed with cancer is the most devastating thing but there is also something incredibly positive. it changes you, it changes the way people look at you.’ now kylie is happily in love with Joshua sasse, a hunk of an actor 19 years her junior, and the pair officially confirmed their engagement in february. the couple support the say i do down under campaign and have said they won’t tie the knot until australia grants same-sex couples the right to marry. at the end of november, kylie released her repackaged christmas album, Kylie Christmas: Snow Queen Edition, and this weekend she’s set to play christmas concerts at london’s royal albert hall. and it looks like she’s ready to tackle her next 30 years in pop, recently admitting: ‘i’ll be in a retirement home, every now and again pulling on a sequined costume – i am a show pony.’ OK! alex, lexie and lilly-ella pose in front of the Christmas tree

as the couple prepare to welcome their fourth child, we step back in time with Alex and Steven gerrArd

t

he Gerrard family will be making the most of a calm christmas this year, as they prepare for a new addition to the family in 2017. steven and Alex are readying themselves for baby number four, which they excitedly announced on Alex’s instagram page in october. the news came as a surprise to many as, after the birth of their third daughter Lourdes in 2011, Alex claimed she would be their last baby. shortly after her arrival, the couple welcomed OK! into their mansion in Formby, just outside Liverpool. steven said: ‘We’re happy with what we’ve got. But if we were to try again for number four, i’d probably be desperate for a boy.’ Despite having a newborn baby on her hands, Alex looked gorgeous as she showed us around their newly refurbished home. even with three young children, the house was immaculate – thanks to steven’s love of tidiness. the couple revealed their secret was three living

rooms – so the girls could make a mess, steven could catch up on the football on television and Alex could watch her own programmes in peace! the happy family were delighted with the new addition, including their two eldest daughters, Lillyella and Lexie, who were seven and five at the time. steven – who recently retired from competitive football after a 19-year career – revealed that they were taking new parenthood in their stride this time and also explained: ‘i’ve done a few nappy changes. i don’t mind getting my hands dirty. i have a little go at cooking if Alex isn’t here, too, but Jamie oliver’s job is pretty safe!’ the family now live in Beverly Hills after former Liverpool star steven signed to LA Galaxy in 2015. they haven’t revealed the sex of the baby, but Alex said: ‘We are all very excited for our new baby to arrive next year.’ OK!
