Introduction With currently over 380 hotels in Ireland, Spain and the UK this company was the first budget brand to launch in the UK back in 1985. With extensive growth plans they intend to operate over 70,000 rooms (approximately 1000 Hotels) by 2020 and aims to be the biggest Hotel operator in London by the start of the 2012 Olympics.

Challenges Producing a design that offered both flexibility and simplicity to allow all parties to deliver their elements of the project, involved working closely with a large number of trades and organisations all with their own specific needs and requirements. Understanding their rolls and requirements and then successfully incorporated them into the final design involved some innovative thinking and in depth understanding of the project.

Project Scope With this aggressive growth plan this Hotel chain felt it vital to team up with a trusted and professional organisation to help design, install and manage their Hotel IT & Voice Infrastructure. Puffin Solutions helped rationalise the mix of cabling solutions and standards that had previously been installed and came up with a single structured cabling design, encompassing all voice connectivity, wide area data connectivity and Epos requirements that could be easily rolled out at every hotel.

Puffin Solutions produced clear and simple network schematics that were distributed to all parties involved to ensure each site progressed and was delivered correctly and on time.

Puffin Solutions, on behalf of our customer, also liaised closely with the builders, BT, Wireless Hot Spot provider, PC provider, amongst others to ensure all organisations involved were kept up to date on the design.

All works on each site were split into two distinct phases, a first fix was undertaken to ensure all cables were installed within the building structure allowing the builders to close up ceilings and trunking solutions ready for hand over to the client. The second phase was completed during the “Practical Completion� stage, working alongside the clients preferred PC supplier to connect and commission the network.

Conclusion From giving guidance to the main contractor on the correct routing of the new network cables to helping our client maximise their brand by having their logo screen printed into all outlets, Puffin Solutions worked closely together with all parties and was able to standardise and deliver a repeatable high standard solution to each new site time after time.
