Introducing The Police And Crime Plan

This short document is an introduction to the Police And Crime Plan which sets out the police and crime priorities for Avon and Somerset Constabulary for the next four years.

The plan has been put together by the Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens after talking with local communities to understand your issues and concerns.

The plan has also been based on what we have found out about local needs by looking at the work we have been doing.

By following this plan we can all make a real difference to the communities we serve.

1

My Commitment to You You have a right to BE SAFE and FEEL SAFE in your community. It is my aim to make this happen so that you have the highest level of trust and confidence in the: • Police • Victim Support Services • Criminal Justice Services My priorities are:

Protect the most vulnerable from harm I want to speak up for victims and make sure vulnerable people are protected.

Strengthen and improve your local policing teams I want to make sure you can talk to the police and they will tackle the crimes that matter most to you.

2

Make sure that Avon and Somerset Constabulary has the right people, right equipment and right culture I will work with the Chief Constable to have more people from different backgrounds in the police force, to provide the right equipment and technology to police officers and staff, and to change how we deal with complaints.

Working together with other police forces and key partners to provide better services to local people I plan to work with other organisations to: share buildings, help services work better, and make savings so we can spend more money where it’s needed most.

3

My commitment to you Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens will: Give out clear information about how well the police are working, how money is spent and what decisions are made, and will speak out locally and nationally about the vulnerability of children.

Make sure that services work together for the interests of local people and think of new ways to solve community problems

Continue to listen to issues and concerns, making sure the Plan is checked regularly and to stay independent and keep politics out of policing
