POLICING BaNES Acting Inspector Sarah Dinnis


Background The BaNES local policing area consists of 37 wards, which are covered by police stations at Redbridge House in Bath, Radstock, and a small Neighbourhood Police post in Keynsham Civic Centre. We have public counters at Lewis House Bath, Ashmead Road Keynsham and Radstock.


Resources • There are currently about 130 police officers serving BaNES split between Response and Neighbourhood teams • This breaks down into: – – – –

74 PCs 34 PCSOs 15 Sergeants 6 Inspectors

• Out of this total your neighbourhood team consist of:


Your Local Neighbourhood team • 1 x Inspector • 5 x Sgt’s (three at Bath one at Radstock one at Keynsham) • Neighbourhood PC’s and PCSO’s. • One of the Bath NPT Sgt’s has a small team focussing on local priority issues


Specific challenges • Bath is a major centre for tourism with 3.8 million day visitors to the city each year • Bath has a number of large educational institutions • Keynsham and Radstock are experiencing major re-development and expansion


Demand • A total of 38,784 requests for police services were received within the BaNES area over the last 12 months • This is an 8.8% increase over the previous 12 months • Crime in BaNES has seen an 8.2% increase over the last 12 months. The constabulary has seen a 8.4% increase. • Mental health / missing persons and social issues taking up an ever increasing amount of our service requests. Crime is only part of what we do !

Neighbourhood team re-alignments Neighbourhood Sgt portfolios Night time economy staff Re-invigoration of Community Speedwatch Local tasking and targeting Problem solving with partner agencies


Innovations • Body Worn Cameras • New crime recording system and mobile data leading towards mobile working • Call back system reducing wait times for 101 callers • Partnership approach • Implementation of a data visualisation tool provides greater insight and facilitates better informed decision making
