CAT FRIENDLY SPACE

MICRO WAVE

This project aims to provide a cat-friendly living space, located in a city in Taiwan. Researching the habits of the cat and interviewing the owner, led to some interesting factors being used in the design. The cat likes to stay up high to watch the surroundings and be aware of any motion inside the house. In addition, cats need a place to hide from unfamiliar people or things. Furthermore, they can only experience a few colours and yellow is one of them. For that reason, yellow will be the main colour in the project and highlighted in the visuals. To create a comfortable and relaxing space, wood is widely used in the spatial design.

open area

From entrance to living room, this long area is open for cats to run and allows them to watch the owner at the same time. Most cats like company with a little distance from their family. A board is therefore an appropriate choice to create a platform, bridge or stair set on the wall for decoration and recreation.

Hemp rope scratching board and bamboo weaving are used to create a natural atmosphere.

For a private area, this was divided into four sections. The partitions in the playroom provide the cat with security as people cannot get inside. With French windows, the room will be filled with sun which makes it warm and comfortable and the best place to take a catnap.

TAKE A BREATHEAIR CAN STORE

2020 is a tough year for everyone and the epidemic effects our daily life as we must wear a mask to prevent COVID-19. Covering your nose with a mask is uncomfortable and it is hard to breathe fresh air. Under this special situation fresh air becomes a luxury, because when people go outside, they put on a mask. The pandemic changes our behaviour, as usually people go outdoors for fresh air, but now we can only breathe fresh air inside our homes. It also means people cannot go abroad. Air-can stores have sprung up, where you can purchase air from different countries. The store also provides rooms decorated with the style of the producing country where customers can enjoy the product. TAKE A BREATH aims to provide people with a short-term travel experience.

9.

There are six types of cans from different countries sold in store. The visuals for each package are composed on a grey scale with a simple shape to make products more harmonious.

To make customers feel like they are really travelling, the product must be purchased at the front desk. They can also rest on seats in front of the desk. After purchasing, customers come through the door, entering the main area. On the left is a flight board showing the room number and the right is the bar to pick up the can.

There are three rooms and each of them is pictured. On the left from top to bottom are Mexico, France and America, respectively.

There are many plane windows set into the store, because when we see this window it means we are flying across the sky heading to another place or country. Therefore, a plane window is a symbol of going to another world

FRIDE TANGYUAN

In Chinese, the pronunciation of ‘circle’ is the same as ‘fate’, so a circle always symbolises unity and anything good. Accordingly, ‘Ban juo’ is an activity that can interpret this meaning, because in this activity people use many things in a circle. For this project I use the circle as the fundamental element and other classical elements like a red circle table, stainless steel stool and colourful waterproof canvas. Red and blue are the most common.

19.

Pink and white glutinous rice balls are classic cuisine of Ban jou and therefore the menu is designed with two chopsticks picking them up. When people look up, they will see the ceiling is an upside-down table filled with plates.

In this place, people can gather in a circle and enjoy snacks. Also the walls are layered with canvas and glass offsetting enough distance that air can flow in.

PHOTIC ZONE

21.

Photic zone There are many creatures who live in environments in which temperature and water quality are unstable. These creatures survive and ingest nutrition or elements in these changing surroundings. I think people’s lives are like this pattern. Every day, we met many people and deal with many things that might be good or bad, however, we cannot choose which kind will occur. For this reason, I created a series of accessories made with copper, brass, and plastic to recreate

CROWN It represent ocean wave and glittering reflection. The texture of plastic just like bubble sorrouding model’s head.
