PROJECTS

HELLO

My name is Abhishek Singh.

I am a fourth year undergraduate architecture student at Indian Institute of technology, Kharagpur, India. A keen observer and an avid sketcher right from the beginning, I am intrigued by the design of things around me and how it shapes the thought process of an individual. I like to create, and this passion propels my will to contribute towards a better, a more aesthetic & sustainable world. The future as I see, dwells in the virtual world before it can become a reality and this has motivated me to learn AR/VR technologies. The following is the collection of my academic projects and competitions till now, that reflects my passion for architecture and design. I hope to contribute the same to your firm. 01 TROUVAILLE CULTURAL HILL RESORT

Type - Academic Project Location - Kashmir, India Climate - Cold Site Area - 7500 m2 Softwares used Revit 18, SketchUp 18, Lumion 8.0 AutoCAD 18, Photoshop CC 19

The studio project aimed to design a cultural resort in cold climatic conditions. The proposed strategic site is in the outskirts of Pahalgam in Aru Valley, Jammu & Kashmir, India. The resort will cater to the needs of both local & international tourists. The design also promotes the local culture and arts.

6

7

CONCEPT The form itself is a representation of earth and nature in the modern era. With the use of new techniques and technology, a space for both traditional and modern is articulated in the resort. Big exterior glass facade not only provides the required heat gain in the cold climate but also symbolizes the crystal snow over the wooden lamina.

DHAJJI DEWARI CONSTRUCTION In Kashmir traditional timber-brick masonry costruction consists of burnt clay bricks filling in a framework of timber to create a patchwork of masonry, which is confined in small panels by the surrounding timber elements.

MUGHAL GARDENS The rectilinear layout of chabaghs and intrinsic geometric patterns are used for the recreational zone. The water strips follow a random pattern curvilinear circulation paths are given. Planted with species of jasmine, lavander, marigold and rose. A rich blend of Kashmiri culture is experienced as the visitor traverses these paths.

8

DYNAMIC ART - SUN PATTERNS The conceptualization is not only based on the funtions but also on the sustainable factors. Use of maximum sunlight and natural ventilation minimizes the dependency on artificial energy sources. The traditional jali patterns are used as facade and canopy elements providing shade and creating dynamic art throught the day. It creates intrinsic shadow patterns over the lounge.

02 AVAINT SPACE MUSEUM

Type - Academic Project (3rd Sem) Location - Tamil Nadu, India Climate - Moderate Site Area - 8600 m2 Softwares used SketchUp 18, Lumion 8.0, AutoCAD 18, Photoshop CC 19

The history of aviation in India is deeply connected to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, he was an aerospace scientist who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. The project aims to create a Space Museum at his burial site that will be the landmark of his hall of fame and the future of aviation in India.

14

15

CONCEPT The space aviation museum will serve as a memorial to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The various galleries are based on the history of aviation and the future of flight in the country. Steel skeletal structure with precast concrete panels with glass streaks that allows light inside the gallery to create intrinsic and strategic patterns. The streaks glow in the night and give a futuristic profile to the museum.

17

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT The space planning and form development os the museum is done in 3 stages. Stage 1: Volumetric analysis of spaces and functional zoning. Stage 2: Study of sun path and wind analysis to create strategic openings. Stage 3: Creating long openings to achieve a light streak effect and make patterns inside the museum, which in turn becomes a design feature on the outside and gives a futuristic facade.

PROJECT PROGRAM The residential facility welcomes university researchers. Spaces are to designed to ensure a nourishing and comfortable campus stay. The facility includes a mix of public and private spaces: studio apartments, single & double occupancy rooms as well as generous indoor, semi-outdoor and outdoor-public spaces encouraging positive & rich social interaction.

LOCAL CLIMATIC CONDITIONS The climate here is tropical, the summers have a good deal of rainfall. The Koppen-Geiger classification is AW. The temperature here averages at 26.7 C. About 1774 mm of precipitation falls annually, Major issues to consider for attaining thermal comfort: high humidity, intense solar radiation, high temperatures, and excess rainfall. WIND FLOW SIMULATION | AUTODESK ECOTECT

Various aspects of the building form can cause increase or reduction in wind effects. Although it is seldom as critical in the building design, streamlining can improve the relative efficiency of the building in wind resistance. Here the wind analysis was used to create sufficient openings for optimum ventilation and comfort.

26| ARCHITECTURE | RESEARCHERS HOSTEL FACILITY

SOLAR RADIATION ANALYSIS

A solar analysis was run on Autodesk Ecotect Analysis at the early stages of design and various inferences were made. Direct sunlight was compared during heating seasons versus cooling seasons, designed to maximize the former vand minimize the latter. This helped to make all necessary changes to optimize the design for maximum comfort.

Type - Academic Project (6th Sem) Location - IIT Kharagpur, India Climate - Hot and humid Site Area - 9800 m2 Softwares used SketchUp 18, Lumion 8.0, AutoCAD 18, Photoshop CC 19

The program requirement was to create a mixed use building to accomodate research and academic visitors and provide a residential and ofiice/meeting space for them. The site is in the vast campus of IIT Kharagpur, India. The building also has a clubhouse, restaurant and green terraces. Building services and functionality is kept in focus in the design.

FORM DEVELOPMENT

Voids are created to maximize wind flow through the building and also create green terraces over the different blocks making a healthy live in environment.

BREATHEABLITY

GREEN POCKETS

Basic space volumes are stacked up according to the by laws. The bottom module is split to provide shade and create a terrace on the third floor.

Air flow inside the building is ensured by the voids and stepped structure in the direction of major winds. This also provides an architectural vocabulary to the building. Voids are used as urban interaction spaces fostering a micro-climate.

30| ARCHITECTURE | MIXED-USE DESIGN

Green roofs are created featuring the local flora and also creating refugee shelters on various levels in case of emergency.

MIXED-USE FUNCTIONALITY

31

The building offers a variety of open interaction spaces to the academic visitors. The stepped form of the residential unit provides each unit with ample sunlight and proper ventilation and also act as refugee shelters in case of emergency. There are voids in between the residential unit that allow an unobstructed air flow and also becomes places of social interaction between the housing units.

Type - Competition entry 2019 Location - Amsterdam, Netherlands Site Area - 14400 m2 Softwares used SketchUp 18, Lumion 8.0, AutoCAD 18, Photoshop CC 19

The objective of this competition, Amsterdam Spring Pavilion, is to create a multi-usage pavilion in the emblematic Vondelpark that can connect people, nature and architecture. The pavilion should capture the essence of spring which is also the season of full bloom and be able to host different activities and activate the zone.

DESIGN CONCEPT The Pavilion is a celebration of the festival known as Spring, The design captures the subtle transition from the winter season to the spring season, and to provide this very essence we chose a fluidic form for the whole pavilion which is indicative of melting of snow and commencement of spring, the central space is occupied by a crystalline geometry symbolizing the shard of ice with a colourful skin symbolizing the blooming of flaura, the melting effect is amplified through the presence of water body around the geometry, this central lattice acts as a focal point and apprehends the visitors senses by acting as a beacon for welcoming the season.
