Welcome to the first annual Madge Simmentals Broadway girls sale. With 2023 maybe being a bit dryer of a year for our area, we are still very pleased with how the cattle have matured the last 9 months. I truly believe that with the strong cattle markets and record prices, it’s a great time to add new females. An appealing time to send out the bottom/old end of the herd to the auction market. These are the years we’ve all been looking for, with cattlemen finally getting paid and rewarded for their hard work, blood, sweat and tears. As an industry we all keep our heads up high, and are always hopeful to try to never lose faith in our hopes and dreams in our biggest passion with agriculture. The cattle and crops are one thing, but the people within are the true building blocks of it all. With this being my first independent sale, and attempting to get the Broadway Girls rolling, I am over the moon excited with the group of females on offer. Coming from strong cow families here at Madge Simmentals, there is at least one way to tie each individual heifer in the fleckvieh group together, as with the purebred side. By bringing in the best of the heifer calf crop, and TANN tattooed breds, it has me ecstatic for your evaluations. I’ve strived to produce, sound footed, strong uddered, and functionable cattle that work for you. Females that get out there and graze, while maintaining ideal body conditions with scale tipping calves. I have confidence each and everyone of these sale lots will hold that standard to keep the buyers pleased. It’s been a great first 8 years in the breed and it has me very optimistic of the years to follow. In these years, my biggest philosophy for growing my herd is to buy cattle that complement one another. If the cattle can complement one another while adding new and better aspects to their overall structural integrity, soundness and growth, it makes me hopeful of what’s to come. In amongst striving to produce that mental image of that close to perfect animal we all picture in mind.

I welcome you to attend our open house on September 22, 2023 that’ll happen all day. Come for some good ole central Alberta hospitality, and a visit. The cattle will be looking their best, and I’m sure I myself will even try to get a good matching haircut. I am very humbled to welcome Nelson Ranch Cattle on this day with their cattle on display for your viewing. Lowell is an up and coming breeder that has a strong cattle eye and program, from Morrin Alberta. I have grown a firm admiration for what Nelson Ranch has produced and continues to produce in their herd. The food will be hot, the beer will be cold, and the cattle will be ready. Welcome to the 1st annual Broadway Girls Female Sale! I’m Lowell Nelson, the proud owner of Nelson Ranch. I’d like to express my gratitude to Tanner of Madge Simmentals & Charolais for extending the invitation to showcase my cattle at his upcoming Open House on September 22nd. Over the past few years, Tanner and I have forged a strong friendship rooted in our shared passion for the Simmental breed. I’ve had the privilege of touring the Madge herd multiple times, and with each visit, I leave more impressed than the last.

My journey into Fullblood Simmental breeding began in 2014, and since then, I haven’t looked back. Nine years ago, Nelson Ranch was founded with just four cows, and it has since flourished to encompass 30 registered females. My breeding program places a primary emphasis on maternal traits, followed by performance. Last year, we transitioned from selling yearlings to offering 2-year-old bulls. Since the fullbloods calve alongside the commercial herd in March/ April, I wanted to provide bulls with enhanced sexual maturity and additional size to cover a broader breeding group. These bulls are fed a high forage diet, allowing them to grow into their frame while also saving their feet. This approach has yielded excellent results for our buyers, who were highly satisfied with the performance of these bulls during the breeding season.

On September 22nd, I will have 3 cow/calf pairs and 3 bulls on display at the Open House. These animals originate from strong cow families within our herd, and have performed exceptionally for me in the past. I have complete confidence in this string and eagerly anticipate showcasing them at the event. I look forward to welcoming you at the Broadway Girls Female Sale!

A great bred female coming from the Virginia Merlot 706E line of the cow herd, no guesswork with a little bit of Merlot. A mirror image of 8K, 7K has all the same attributes as her sale leading sister. Polled and packed with power just with a different bottom side of the pedigree, having JNR Theory and Soloway Adonis to add a unique twist. Bred early by AI to Virginia Precision, then exposed to Virginia Warsmoke 24J. 7K will hit it out of the park either way, the sisters that calved in 2023 far excited my expectations. Really thinking I’ve gone crazy on this one by offering the full sister to TANN 9K that sold to Anchor D Simmentals in 2022 in Pasture Treasures for $7000. Coming from my favorite cow VIRS 63D, 2333L is a heifer that truly hurts to sell. The day this female was born I told my family “this one is going to be special”. A female when you break her down from the ground up, she checks box after box. Sound footed to cover miles on any terrain, with a cow family history of lovely udders, strong fertility, and a no miss factor. A heifer of excellent quality and one that’ll always bring in a hefty cheque. Backed by 2 generations of flush cows here at Madge Simmentals, and definitely not the last. A polled package with a punch! Same cow family as Lot 5.

The dam of this heifer is a maternal sister to our high selling bull TANN 18K selling for $10,000 to Cody and Kindra Mashon of Homestead Coulee in the spring of 2023. With the track record on the bottom side and the top side with our Virginia Warsmoke 24J herdsire, she is one that will leave her mark. The very first Warsmoke heifer to ever sell and by far the hardest individual I have ever sacrificed in the offering. 2306 is a female that has had the look since day one. Quiet demeanored with the wow factor, this polled female is one that is hard to pick apart. Coming from our WWF 12R cow family, she comes from a line of 3 flush cows here at Madge Simmentals. Easy fleshing, loosehided, wide topped, a bombshell of a calf from a first calver. I have this female marked very high on my list! Same cow family as Lot 3.

This cow family is round, sound, and low to the ground with impeccable udder quality. 2305 is an attractive looking female with strong feminine features, deep middled, with the dark red colour as the cherry on top. A top end female, with a bright future. I couldn’t be anymore proud of this calf, she’s one that’ll make a lasting impact. Homo polled tests pending.

POLLED PUREBRED OPEN HEIFER 2315 is a female that comes from the Zanna cow family that started it for me all those years ago when I purchased my founding females from Diamond B Simmentals in 2016. Having a % of fleck in this heifer, she sure could add a new twist to a program. Being polled with the ever so eye catching blaze face, this female shows great muscle expression on a firm foundation from the ground up and through the pedigree. 2315 screams bull maker, just like the last 3 generations have shown me over the years.

The lone black female of my offering for the year, 2313 has been an eye catcher since day one. The money stripe definitely draws you in but after you look closer this female is one that is all there. A beefy female just like her dam, and grand dam. The Elga cow family has grown immensely in the last 5 years. They’re the foundation of the red and black side of my operation. Sired by the MOES BLACKFIRE 501H bull, the combination of Elga and Blackfire has created very easy fleshing progeny that can get the job done on the prairie grass. 2313 is a ¾ sib to TANN 5K who sold to Silversmith/Mappin farms at Pasture Treasures in 2022. HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE

DLMS Farm Gate Timed Auction

1. Visit https://farmgatetimedauctions.ca, then click on the LOGIN/REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your user name and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions.

2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity.

3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest.

4. At closing time of the sale the entire sale will extend bidding for 5 minute if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after 6 PM will extend the sale by 5 minutes from the time of that bid. When no bidding occurs for 5 min the computer will declare the sale finished.

5. Within 24 hours of the sale close DLMS will contact winning bidders via email with an invoice payable to Madge Farms. Transfer of papers and delivery will be arranged with Madge Farms upon sale completion.

WHAT IS RACEHORSE STYLE SALE CLOSE? Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.

HOW WILL EXTENDED BIDDING WORK? When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.

Terms:

The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable before delivery of cattle is made. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder. Announcements on Farm Gate will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.

Certificate of Registration:

Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Simmental Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

Health:

All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.

Guarantee:

Each animal becomes the purchaser’s risk immediately after the animal is sold. All animals in this sale will be sold under the terms and guarantees set forth by the Canadian Simmental Association with regard to health, freedom from defects and from both reproductive and specific genetic unsoundness.

Liabilities:

All persons attend the open house at their own risk. The sellers, facility owner assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur.

Delivery:

Every assistance will be given in getting your purchases home.

Insurance:

Once the sale closes the animal becomes the risk of the new owner. We reccommend you insure your purchase as soon as sold.

Errors:

All announcements at sale time, written or oral, supercede any written material in the catalogue.
