WINTERING

Anyone not wanting to take their bulls after the sale can make arrangements with us to keep the bulls at the ranch until April 1st, 2023. ALL BULLS REMAINING AT THE RANCH AFTER SALE DAY MUST BE INSURED. The bulls will be housed at the buyer’s risk. The breeder will not be responsible for any type of injury while the bulls are in their care.

SEMEN TEST

All bulls will be semen tested before sale day.

DIRECTION TO THE RANCH

Turn onto Meadow Creek Road west from hwy 2, go west 10 miles and the road will bend to the left (south) go 1 mile south, you will come along a row of trees and a yield sign. Go straight through the yield sign heading south. Our place is the second place on your left at the end of the road. You will see 2 red barns.

Terms & Conditions

Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or check. All monies are in Canadian funds. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made. All settlements must be made with the clerk before any cattle will be release.

Disputes: Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in the case of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Announcements from the auction block take precedence over the printed matter in the catalog.

Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Insurance will be available sale day.

Breeder’s Guarantee: All bulls have been registered, unless indicated in the catalog, and papers will be transferred to the new owner. All bulls sold are guaranteed to the standard breed association guarantees. In no event shall the seller be responsible for reimbursing more than the purchase price.

Liabilities: All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller and /or sales staff assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for accidents that occur in, on , or about the premises.

Welcome to the 2023 RACK Red Angus Bull Sale

Welcome to our Rack Red Angus “More Burger Than Bun” Annual bull Sale. The past couple of years have been challenging at the least, but now more than ever we need to rise to the occasion and show the world our product and that producers are the best the world has to offer, with cow numbers decreasing over all we need to stand tall and produce the best product ever so consumers gain that needed confidence in Canadian Beef!

As we write this note we are thinking of the past and the future. We bought our first purebred Red Angus cow from Doug Lane and joined into Meadow Creek Red Angus herd in 1989. As every family there has been some bumps and bruises along the way but have continued to build our herd to present. Both the kids Kelsey and Marshall have grown up with the cattle and share our passion with the Red Angus and based on the new tattoos in the ears are showing growth in our program and the need to expand based on their interest. New to our program is Will Little, our son in law. Will is showing us his strength in numbers and always has an idea to add to our discussions.

Our bull pen, in our opinion, this year could be the best we have offered. We are always trying to improve and up our game plan each year. 2021 we stepped out and purchased 3 impacting her sires Red BCC Brylor OTM Resolution, Red MarMac Hudson and Red HE 983D Rock 318G. The three walking bulls are breed improvers and have impacted our herd largely. They have added dark color, tremendous depth, thickness and muscle were needed. Great leg and foot quality, sound moving bulls with performance but still having calving ease built in. Our AI sire of choice was Duff Red Wood, a bull that has style, length of body, huge hind quarter, depth; I can go on all day about this guy.

We are proud of this year’s bull pen and you will see a great set of bulls and we are looking forward to hearing your appraisal of them. There is sleep easy to a balance of power that should cover all your requirements.

Bulls have been on a rolled grain ration to achieve their development and not to burn them out. They are also on free choice hay. Bulls will be semen tested and guaranteed to breed. We believe in longevity and quiet temperament.

Bulls remaining on the ranch after sale day are required to have insurance purchased. All bulls remaining after April 1st will be subject to a $4.00\day per head. We are happy to work with you for delivery or pick-up.

New sale location this year, sale is being held right on the ranch at 1:30pm. Bulls will be available to walk through and view like others years. DLMS will be on site for live online bidding and you can bid live as the bulls are auctioned off. We will be serving a smoked beef lunch at 11:30am. We will also be hosting a Field Day on Feb 25th from 10am – 3pm. If you can’t make it then we will happily show you the pen anytime. Coffee is always on.

Donation Heifer

We are pleased to present this donation heifer to help raise needed funds for the Stavely Ag Society. We have been doing this for the past 2 years and it has averaged over $10,000 each year. This year the funds are going towards an outdoor covering over the stands. This organization puts on many events for a small town and community. The committee puts countless hours of hard work to keep this facility running. This is a hub for such events as Stavely Indoor Rodeo, Stavely Horse Show, Amateur Rodeo, Stavely 4H, Glenn Keeley Bull Riding, as well as Stavely Figure Skating and Stavely Pond Hockey. Help make this a success for this communitee. Tickets are available from any board member, the Claresholm Local Press or ourselves. Draw will take place at the 2023 Bull Sale on the Ranch.

In the spring of 2021 we had a conversation with Bryan Mackenzie and told him we were looking for a new impacting herd sire. Bryan replied I know for just the bull for you. “Resolution” after gathering information on him and pictures and history of the cow with the sire families we recognized that Resolution was our bull of choice. When you have a small herd its always about a budget conversation and what is going to impact us the most for the input costs. Sale day came and the bidding started, in the end we partner up on the purchase of Resolution for $30,000. Here is what we bought, a bull that brought us together with partners that were outstanding in every way. ( Brandl’s, Brylor Ranch and On The Mark). What outstanding people. Red Wood brings everything to the table as you will see in his sons on offer in this years sale. We also see in the replacement heifers females that have the same characteristics as the bulls but are still feminine in there appearance. His Dam Red Fine Line Gal 4D has become a great producer for us and has raised a replacement heifer that Nick VanGaalen felt strong enough about the cow family to buy her out of Red Round Up Sale. HE ROCK 318G came to us sight unseen but highly recommended by Nate Marin. Rock 318G was purchased out of Hawkeye Ranching 2021 Bull Sale and what a great bull he has become. Rock is a deep sided soggy bull that is correct made from every angle! He stands on very correct feet and moves effortlessly. We bought him originally to clean up on our AI cows but have realized this bull has potential to be an upfront sire so look for more calves to come next year. Swampy 407K was a lucky guy. His mom decided to calve him in a mud puddle in the field east of the house. We were so glad it was daylight and that we caught in time. Swampy 407K takes us back to genetics out of the 1980’s and was a cornerstone sire for Kathy’s dad Doug Lane of Meadow Creek Red Angus Red LCC Stallone 7B was a son of the world known mighty Rambo 50Z Sire. We happen to have a few straws left in our semen tank. Stallone raised moderate sized good footed, good uddered, thick made females that Doug thought highly of them. Swampy 407K is taller made with good length.

Rosebud 22H is out of the poplar Brooking Firebrand herd sire that consistently sires progeny across the land. Firc Brand adds that extra thickness and very correct udders in his females. Sire Coleman Bravo 6313 is a genetic gem that has both sire and dam families to back him. Bravo adds rib and body, loads of red meat and very easy fleshing. Bravo 418K would make a great bull to be used on a young set of cows that you want to keep the replacements on.

43K Granite again will work well on heifers. Grand Dam KenRay Kuruba 20T was a model cow at KenRay Ranch, she exhibited correct lines and a near perfect udder. She raised the right kind of dam. KenRay Kuruba 22A is great example of the traits her mom has passed down and 43K has as well adopted these traits.
