Follow us on IN HERD USE SEMEN
Rack Red Angus and Honeybrook Angus reserve the right to retain 100 straws of in herd semen on any bull in the sale at buyers convience and our expense.
Welcome to the 2024 RACK Red Angus Bull Sale We would like to welcome you all to our 2024 Bulls With More Burger Than Bun Bull Sale. New this year we will also have guest consignors Honeybrook Angus from Edam SK. Lee, Cathy, Melissa and James Monteith. They have a great passion for raising their Black Angus herd and have had great success showing and promoting their cattle. This year was an absolute whirl wind of events as most of you know we decided to move our whole operation to Paynton Saskatchewan leaving a lifetime of memories on the old ranch at Claresholm Alberta. We feel we have found an area that we can grow our existing cow herd and land base to provide Marshall an opportunity to continue his Grandfather “Doug Lane’s” legacy, that he started back in 1981. Many trips have been made to get our entire operation moved and that couldn’t have been possible without many great friends who pitched in and helped. A huge thanks to them all! We are not new to the business and have been raising purebred Red Angus since 1989 following Kathy’s dad’s philosophies. Raising sound functional cattle with the commercial cattlemen in mind! We are proud of our cattle and it makes us so happy to see how our genetics have worked in commercial herds. We strive to offer bulls that are complete in their make up with sound feet and leg structure as well as volume and muscle but not over fed. They are ready to work when needed as they need to perform in the real world circumstances. We manage our bulls for growth, soundness and disposition and by feeding them ourselves we can achieve this. The bulls are on a pelleted ration that was been designed with a nutritionist and free choice grass hay silage mix. Bulls are semen tested and we stand behind our product. We are doing a Farmgate Auction this year and invite you to join us Sale Day for an All Day Lunch and refreshments on the ranch. Come meet us and see our bull pen at the ranch. If you cannot make it the day of the sale, you can come anytime to view the bulls and discuss any requirements for your breeding season. We also have some great sale contacts you can reach out to as well. We look forward in seeing you sale day. Clayton, Kathy, Marshal, Kelsey and Will
HOW TO PARTICIPATE ON DLMS FARMGATE
1. Visit www.farmgatetimedauctions.ca, click the LOGIN/REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your user name and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions. 2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity. 3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest. 4. At closing time of the sale the entire sale will extend bidding for 5 minute if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after 6 PM will extend the sale by 5 minutes from the time of that bid. When no bidding occurs for 5 min the computer will declare the sale finished. 5. Within 24 hours of the sale close the OBI and DLMS will contact all winning bidders to arrange payment, transfer of pedigrees and delivery/Pick up of your lot. If you require assistance with using the new DLMS Farm Gate web site, if you don’t understand how to create a favorites list, if you can’t figure out the proxy bid or you just plain want to bid via phone, please talk to any of the DLMS team or Sale Consignors. WHAT IS RACEHORSE STYLE SALE CLOSE? Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding. HOW WILL EXTENDED BIDDING WORK? When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.

We have never been so impressed in one sire group as we are with Duff Red Wood 1941. This will be our second offering of bulls sired by Red Wood. He has impacted our breeding progam in a game changing way and we will continue to input this great sire. Red Wood brings everything to the table as you will see in his sons on offer in this year’s sale. Depth of rib, big hind quarters, top line, bone structure, sound bulls that walk well. We are noticing a definite improvement in the replacement heifers as they shape the same characteristics as the bulls. We had great success showing Red Wood 1941 progeny this past summer and fall.

I just love this bull! Boss Hogg 10L has that I’m Too Sexy Look about him. He has had a runaway experience starting with his Dam Ms Dividend at the Turtleford Summer Cattle Show this year, where they placed second as mature cow with bull calf at foot. Boss Hogg then was entered as pat of the Pen of 3 Purebred bulls at the Edam Fall Fair and the pen placed fourth overall and was the top Red Angus pen that day. Both sides of Boss Hogg’s pedigree is loaded with amazing cow families and impacting sires. Boss Hogg has a big square butt and the nuts to match. He carries himself on a correct foot structure and legs. He has ample depth of rib and a top that you could set a four course dinner on! I guess what I’m saying is on Feb 28th this guy will represent our program well. So if your looking for a bull to go on 1st calvers or into your cow program be looking at this guy! I feel his shoulders are a bit too thick to safely use on heifers.

Here is the second bull from the team of three we took to the Edam Fall Fair and again we are very proud to have on offer in this years sale. Blackbird 51G is from Ward Red Angus program and was a model cow with exceptional feet and udder. Blackbird 51G had the look and style, passing that quality on to her calves. Rack Red Wood 12L is a very complete bull that is cherry red in color with great capacity but yet very smooth in the shoulders and has a very tidy head. Wood 12L is a bull that will make great replacement daughters that will sire those heavier steers in the fall.

Let’s talk about the cow on this note! Fineline Ms Gal 37E has been an exceptional producer! Raising 2 females, one that we retained in the herd and the second was sold at the Ladies in the West sale to Arntzen Red Angus. Ms Gal 37E has raised three bull calves to date, the first selling to the Andrews from Stavely and the 2nd going to the Mills from Claresholm and now she is offering Rack Red Wood 31L is the 3rd member of the Pen of Bulls that went to the Edam Fall Fair and by now you can see what a great job Duff Red Wood 1941 has done in our program! Wood 31L is stylish in his makeup and has the power to back him up. Wood 31L moves effortlessly and has that extra bit of length coupled with a very nice head that will make for good calving ease. I would recommend this guy to work well with developed heifers and cows as he will have performance.

Welcome from Honeybrook Angus We are a multigenerational family run farm focusing on Black (Lee and Cathy) and Red (Melissa) Angus cattle and a small commercial beef herd. The Monteith family have had cattle on this land for over 100 years and have Century Farm status in Saskatchewan. Lee’s parents began with a dairy operation but switched to beef cattle when Lee was still very young. Elsie and Bob focused on a commercial cow calf operation utilizing AI to introduce some European breeds over the predominantly Angus commercial cow herd. Lee and I, with our children Melissa and James, took over the commercial herd. We began to transition into Registered Angus about 8 years ago and have focused on the use of AI as well as embryo transfer to build a cow herd that focuses on producing functional cattle with reproductive efficiency and longevity. Our cattle are pastured on hilly land and thus the cattle we keep and produce must be physically sound and fit. We only keep the top bull calves to develop for our bull sales. The bulls are developed on a complete bull ration and free choice forage. We now have 30 registered Angus cows that we have sourced from what we think are some of the top Angus programs. This includes MacNab Angus, Miller Wilson, Greenwood, Six Mile, Poplar Meadows and Royal Angus. Melissa loves to show off our stock and will be found out at a number of the summer shows, fall shows and finishes off the show season with Agribition in Regina in November. This year we are excited to join as guests with Rack Red Angus for their annual bull sale.

This is a bull with an appealing look and lots of power. He catches your eye as soon as you walk in the pen and has been a pen favorite of those that have toured the offering. He is deep and soggy in his make-up and moves out well, he will have no trouble covering lots of ground. His sire DMM International 54D needs no introduction. He dominated the show ring from his first appearance in 2016 at the side of his dam DMM Blackbird 105A as the RBC Supreme Female Champion. He went on to win Supreme Bull at Farmfair International and the RBC supreme in 2018 and finished his show career being named Bull champion of the World. His dam is a daughter of SAV Harvestor 0338, another powerhouse bull who has left his stamp on the Angus breed with over 1100 offspring registered in Canada. We have retained 2 daughters in our herd and another we sold as a replacement heifer. Her reproductive performance speaks for itself being one of the first cows to calve every year. His dam Royal S Eston Anne 5E was Melissa’s must have from the dispersal sale for the Sisson brothers of Royal Angus. She is a large framed cow and is excellent footed with a good udder. Her purebred daughters have all been retained in the herd. She maintains herself with a feed efficiency that is amazing to see. Something Mel Sisson told us was one of their top focuses: producing maximum pounds efficiently. That big cows don’t always eat more if you select the right kind. Recommended for cows

We purchased Resolution form the 2021 Brandl Bull Sale after gathering information on him and pictures and history of the cow with the sire families we recognized that Resolution was our bull of choice. When you have a small herd its always about a budget conversation and what is going to impact us the most for the input costs. Sale day came and the bidding started, in the end we partner up on the purchase of Resolution for $30,000. Here is what we bought, a bull that brought us together with partners that were outstanding in every way. ( Brandl’s, Brylor Ranch and On The Mark). What outstanding people. Resolution came with all the qualifications: - A Sound Made Bull - Strong Top - Huge Hind Quarter - Depth of Rib - Deep Cherry Color - Length of Body - Long Necked - Great Legs and Solid foot - Smooth Shouldered All of that put together with incredible eye appeal and most of all calvability. He works well on both heifers and cows and has performance to match as you will see in his bull sale offering. He now resides at JAS Red Angus.

daughter of Lancer 2B
Resolution comes from a great cow. MS Lancer 2B consistantely adds depth to her calves and has 10 calves to date and still raises the good ones. Bull calves have sold to Len Carlson and Granum Colony and three females retained in herd. Resolution 3L is another bull that will work well in the heifer pen. He is smooth as silk and flows so nice from his nose to his tail. You will love his dark color and quiet disposition. At 73lbs birth weight and a January 29th weight of 1150lbs this bull is going to be very smooth.

Red Rack Resolution 38L Another cow that has produced very will for us. Brylor Abbie 2C has raised two high selling bulls for us selling to High River Colony and Granum Colony. You have probably noticed Granum Colony in our footnotes a lot. Granum Colony is our longest running customer purchasing bulls since 1989. Resolution 38L is smooth made but has a little more frame and bone to him. I would recommend him on developed heifers and cows as he could throw some thickness in the calves.

Grand Dam 8A has been designated premer status with nine calves and three grand calves so she deserves this status! She could be one of the easiest doing cows on the place and we just love her here. She has raised three bull calves selling to Spring Point Colony, Single Tree Ranch and Harold Halverson. Females have been retained or sold as replacements. Dam Emilsweet 359J is a lot like her Dam 8A and carries the thickness of ACC Big Shot 118E. This cow family is a great one. Kenray Mert Red boss 31H is a bull we lightly AI’d to and very glad we did. For those of you that follow the Merit program you will know the power and efficiency of the Range Boss Progeny and when coupled with one of the outstanding red cows in the country Red Carrier Freyja 29E you cant go wrong. Boss 16L is a bull that stands proud in our pen. He shows great characteristics of both the sire and cow families.
