OBJECTIVE Conduct research on digital presence of the product and the digital user experience of purchasing it. Create testing protocol and gather data. Use findings to propose design improvement recommendations

HYPOTHESIS SMALL SIZE OF SIZE CHART AND UNCLEAR SIZE LABELS LEADS USERS TO SELECT THE WRONG SIZE FOR THEMSELVES

STORELLI H O M E PAG E

Pictured above is the main page for the product. The layout is clean and visually engaging, however the size chart is too small to be seen by the user which inconveniences their digital experience.

Focusing on the size chart, Storelli does not give the user a clear guide as to how to obtain your size. Additionally, the abbreviated size titles might confuse some users.

ACTIVIT Y

Athletes who participate in soccer are more susceptible to below the knee injuries. This is due to the particular actions in the activity and using equipment that does not provide enough protection for the user.

OBJECTIVE DESIGN PRODUCT THAT IMPROVES CURRENT PROTECTION OF WEAK POINTS BELOW THE KNEE TO PREVENT

FUTURE INJURIES

FOOTHILL WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM

COACH OWEN FLANNERY

Not bulky around ankles, something above the shoe would work well. Sleeve with interchangeable padding, allowing for a customizable option. No restrictions, nothing too compressed around the leg and ankle area. - Foothill Women’s Soccer Team

HYPOTHESIS LEG GUARD PROTOTYPE PROVIDES PROTECTION WITHOUT INTERFERING WITH THE USER’S PERFORMANCE. ADDITIONALLY, IT ALLOWS FOR EASILY CUSTOMIZABLE PADDING.

Padding is too bulky around ankle area if wearing certain type of cleat

“Too much padding around the ankle area”

I needed to find thinner material that would still absorb a big impact. I created a pressure sensor with conductive fabric and test various materials

Adhesive Sheet Velostat Conductive Fabric

How it works. When weight is applied to the pressure sensor the multimeter converts this action into ohms (an electrical unit). The more weight that is applied, thesmaller the ohm unit becomes and vice versa. To measure if a material will be good at absorbing impact it is placed on top of the pressure sensor and a weight is applied on top of it. If the ohms measure is bigger than another material measured at the same weight it is better at absorbing impact.

NEXT STEPS FOR FUTURE ITERATIONS OF MY MODEL, I WOULD CONTINUE TO WORK ON THE DESIGN AND PLACEMENT OF THE PADDING. THE PADDING UNDER THE CALF WOULD EXTEND FURTHER DOWN TO COVER THE ACHILLES TENDON. SECONDLY, I WOULD CREATE VARIOUS DESIGNS FOR THE ANKLE PADDING TO FIT MORE COMFORTABLY WHEN WEARING SOCCER CLEATS.
