“Designer are always understood as solving a problem. Artists, intellectuals, and writers are expected to ask questions, to make us hesitate, to see our world and ourselves differently for a moment, and therefore to think.

tHe valley gate
01
In the Italian context, Fragility is mostly the weakness of the underpopulated and abandoned villages and countryside on the Apennines, where agricultural activities are no more profitable, and where people prefer to leave their homes and fields to reach the coasts and the cities, looking for modern and comfortable life. The valley gate, the service center, is located in the gas station to attract the drivers' view-attention, moreover, they can get the best service here and read the landscape. Importantly, this building becomes a spot for connecting newcomers and residents, also creates work opportunities for locals.

His passenger is freer to look or not to look and has a wider angle of the vision. Only if we consider and treat highways as art we can instill in them special visual qualities that will be able to satisfy and enrich the visual life of each user.

GREEn SCULPTURE This project aims at rethinking the neighborhood towards resilience.
3
We propose the regeneration of the factory site next to Lambro Meridionale. A new space potentially hosting commercial and artistic activities is envisaged along with a new public space on the riverside. To increase the attractiveness of the new site and to improve its connection with the rest of the neighborhood, one of the roads taking from the factory to the tram stop at the east side is made car free and transformed into a “youth friendly” street with the proposal of several spots aimed at young people in order to boost their appreciation of their neighborhood.

The existing edge is fragmented , other than using the terrain to divide the wide street, we also propose to use nature element such as trees to improve the edge .Firstly, mapping the existing trees, we found that the regular pattern is grouping the same types of trees together (as shown in 3 typical distributions). This solution lacks in urban biodiversity.

The existing tree system lacks the small dimension trees ,which are closer to the human scale. , So we propose to introduce the new trees of different dimensions, the height between 1-2m and 4-6m. They can be flowers or vegetables and fruit trees. They can also be potentially managed by inhabitants.

AN AQUATIC CENTER The aim of the DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION STUDIO is to experiment the complexity of the design process, from the idea to the realization, by acquiring knowledge about the ways of controlling the relationships between technological, environmental and structural aspects.
03
The fundamental elements of the project are two large translucent boxes of light, entering a spatial relationship with the main square. The transparent building could be defined also “a box inside the box, it means that the transparent shell includes inside another box in which services, like cafe, restaurant, shop... are inserted. Two clean, well-defined volumes are joined together by a low-rise building. The approximate foor dimensions of the first building are 105 x 70 m, and a maximum height of 20 m, while for the second one 30 x 70 m and a maximum height of 14 m.

03 Metal deck The structure is ended with the metal deck. This one is oriented in perpendicular way in relation to the trusses. The thickness of it is 1,0 mm.
The joint which connects the truss with the beam is a hinge. In this way only the shear forces are transmitted and smaller elements could be chosen for the columns. It works with a pivot. Some stiffner elements permit to guarantee more stiffness. The components of the hinge are entire welded.

T he tru s s wo rk s o n l y wh en t h e vertical load is concentrated in the node, for this reason a structure which transfers locally the loads of the roof on the node is required. It is composed by primary beams, which profile is HEB300, located in perpendicular direction in relation to the trusses. Due to the long span of 7 meter, secondary beams must be inserted in the opposite way. All the joints are rigid.

At the base of the column an hinge and a roller have been chosen, in order to have an isostatic structure. The hinge is quite similar to the top one, but with small dimensions , also the base plate is less thick because a compressive load is acting on the hinge. On the other side the structure of the roller contains also 9 cm of elastomeric rubber.

In this project, party A is China Mobile Communications Corporation(CMCC), the largest mobile communications corporation in China. Every year, CMCC holds temporary exhibitions within 10 times in different cities at different times. The exhibition time lasts not more than one week. To solve the problems of tight design time and waste of building materials, it employs a containerbased system. Advantages : Modular space unit i: Factory prefabrication, with mature craft and product-level design. ii: Modular design facilitates efficient, flexible , and various installation, disassembly and building of each component site. iii: Reusable. Each container has a variety of internal formworks, which can cater to different needs of the different exhibitions. vi: Convenient for transport and storage. photo in June,2017 (under construction)
