About

Seventeen Nineteen

We firmly believe in remembering where you’ve come from to move forward, so our space inspires contemplation as well as creativity. Proud of our history, but optimistic and curious about the future Seventeen Nineteen is turning the past into new possibilities. Collaborating with the community and surrounding cultural networks, our vibrant, multifaceted space is one that brings people together to celebrate, meet, make, learn, perform and explore. Uncovering the hidden possibilities of Seventeen Nineteen, we’re creating new connections and bringing the community together through regeneration, reminiscence and pride. Our project is far from isolated. Sunderland’s heritage and cultural network allows us to open a gateway to vibrant activities and create new opportunities for locals as well as curious visitors. Through joint initiatives and passionate partnerships, we can shout about our history from the towers and proudly put our living history on the map! With so much to learn and discover, we’re excited to surprise people with this magnificent space in our city by the sea.

Recruiting new volunteers

Volunteering

Q1 saw 7 events developed and delivered by existing volunteers (several were cancelled due to health considerations and some didn't run due to poor take up) Maintaining volunteer enthusiasm and ensuring they feel supported has been easier now that our doors are open and visitors are able to give encouraging feedback too! Discounted coffee also helps

In Q1 volunteers contributed £18435 in time

Supporting existing volunteers

In Q1 we recruited a further 8 volunteers Our volunteer open day had 1 visitor express an interest, all of our Whats On guide's have a volunteer application pack in them that has encouraged several new volunteers to get involved CCT central staff are supporting wider listing of volunteers

Working with community groups we have engaged volunteers from Sunderland Floristry clubs, Sunderland Martitime Heritage bell ringing groups and Wearside Creative Stitch to install artwork, coordinate events and invigilate the space The value of these contributions is difficult to over estimate the space is populated with amazing content and enthusiastic guides

The biggest contributions have been from working with existing community volunteer groups
