Stuff of Legend. We’ve just ridden through one of the most exciting summer spells since the legendary ’75 swell (where it pumped for 28-days straight over four-foot). I can’t vouch for those days, but guys like Phil Jarratt and Rabbit can… and it’s no myth – although we’re talking about the psychedelic ‘70s, from their first hand accounts, the Gold Coast experienced back-to-back swells and southerly winds for almost an entire month. Fast forward to today and I can confirm for the months of January and February this year, Queensland experienced multiple solid swells. One system in particular, Cyclone Winston danced around the South Pacific for weekson-end. It tracked in and out of our swell window, producing three separate swells events. And you know what? This never happens from one system. To put it simply: Winston was a freak of nature. It’s no wonder grown men found the time and energy to surf three times a day. And groms? They just surfed and surfed and surfed. The icing on this swell was the state of the sand on all the Queensland points: packed, ruler straight and shallow! To briefly recap, the swell showed (from Cyclone Tatiana) on 12 February and with the help of Cyclone Winston, lasted until 28 February. On Monday 29 Feb’, on the last day of summer, it was officially over. If there’s such a thing as a surfing hangover, the greater population in Queensland and northern New South Wales are enjoying it. There’s no formula for happiness, but for surfers living along the east coast of Australia, when a cyclone shows on the charts, you’re guaranteed more excitement and wonder than any other swell generating systems. In the last two months we’ve heard more, wave of my life calls, than in the past 12 years in southeast Queensland. It’s a rare vibe. They say summer always ends with fond memories, but this summer is different. With 17 consecutive days of waves over four foot… these are the good times in your life… the good times you’ll be telling your kids about one day… the stuff of legend. So, here’s our tribute to an-all time Queensland summer. Andy Morris.

Unless you’ve erased yourself from the internet you would've heard about how bananas Queensland has been going for the last few months. Since the first day this year, we’ve seen back-to-back swells gracing the surf-crazed state. Huey really went to work in February sending swell from Cyclone Tatiana, then three consecutive swells from Cyclone Winston. If you were part of it, you’re probably still feeling the good energy from one of the most consistent seasons in memory. Your arms are probably still aching. You probably can’t even peel out of bed for another dawnie… You watched it. You rode it. Now… we bring you, the most all-time Queensland summer this decade.

sometimes surf photography doesn't always go to plan. there are a lot of variables working against you, particularly when shooting water. like here for example. the focus point of the camera is a few metres in front of Joel. in a perfect world this shot would be left for social media or end up never seeing the light of day. but this world ain't perfect and we dig the landscape and lighting, and it helps when Tommy whits flips a double bird to joel. what a moment!
