SAFETY

PRECAUTIONARYSTATEMENTS

Acarefuloperatoristhebestoperator.Mostaccidentscanbeavoidedbyobservingcertainprecautions.Tohelp preventaccidents,readthefollowingprecautionsbeforeoperatingthisequipment.Equipmentshouldbeoperatedonlybythosewhoareresponsibleandinstructedtodoso.

Carefullyreviewtheproceduresgiveninthismanualwithalloperators.Itisimportantthatalloperatorsbefamiliar withandfollowsafetyprecautions.

1.Whentransportingthemachineonpublic roads,makesurethemachinehaslightsin compliancewithASAES279.13standardand themachineisincompliancewithalllocal roadregulations.

2.Beforeoperatingtheunit,besurethatitis assembledcorrectlyandingoodoperating condition.

3.Ifmachinemaintenancework,repairsor adjustmentsmustbedoneinthefield,they shouldbedoneataspotwherethegroundis firmandlevel.Turnoffthetractorandapply theparkingbrake.Usethepropertoolsand wearsuitableprotection(safetygoggles, workgloves,etc.).

4.Ifanymaintenancework,repairsoradjustmentsaredonewhichrequiredisassembly, alwaysmakesurethateverythingisreassembledorretightenedasithadbeenprior tomakingrepairsoradjustments.

5.Followthescheduleprovidedformaintenance.Byfollowingthesesuggestions,itwill bepossibletokeepthemachineoperating safelyandefficiently,tothebenefitoftheuser.

6.Generalcheckingofbolts,securitypinsand splitpinsmustbecarriedoutinitiallyafterthe first8hoursofuse.Subsequently,check every50hoursandwheneverthemachineis laidupforextendedperiods.

7.Beforeapplyingpressuretothesystem,be sureallconnectionsaretightandthathoses andconnectionsarenotdamaged.

8.Fluidunderpressurecanhavesufficient forcetopenetratetheskin,causingserious personalinjury.Alwaysprotecttheskinand eyesfromescapingfluidunderpressure.If injuredbyescapingfluid,obtainmedical assistanceatonce.Seriousinfectionor reactioncandevelopifmedicaltreatmentis notadministeredimmediately.

9.Donotweldonwheels.Weldingonwheels maycausehighstressandawheelfailure.

10.Donotweldonwheelswithamountedtire. Weldingonwheelswithamountedtiremay causethetiretoburst,causingseriousinjury ordeath.

11.Beforeleavingthecab,engagetheparking brake,shutdowntheengine,andwaitforall movingpartstostop.

12.Alwayskeepbystandersawayfrommachine duringoperation.Rotatingelementsmay causeseriousbodilyinjury.

13.Donotattempttoremovematerialfromthe draperheaderwhileitisinoperation.Shutoff thetractorandallowallrotatingpartstostop beforeleavingthetractor.

14.Besurethetractorheaderliftlocksare engagedbeforeworkingonorarounda raisedheader.

15.Engagetheliftlocksorlowertheheaderto thegroundbeforeperforminganymaintenanceorlubrication.

16.Replaceanydamageknivesorknifehardwareimmediatelytopreventanaccident.

17.Alwayswearheavycanvasorleathergloves whenworkingwiththeknife.

18.Alwaysengagethereelliftcylinderlocksand headerliftlocksbeforeworkingunderor aroundaraisedreel.Donotrelyonthe windrowerhydraulicsystemforsupport.A ruptureoraleakinanypartofthesystemwill allowthetabletoloweriftheproperstopsare notinplace.

19.Whenmountingtoawindrower,makesure theendsoftheliftarmsaresecurelyinthe mountingbracketsundertheheader.Failure todosocouldallowtheheadertofallorslide offthearms,causingdamagetotheheaderor personalinjury.

GENERALSAFETY

YOUareresponsibleforthesafeoperationand maintenanceofyourmodelHBSeriesdraper header.YOUmustensurethatyouandanyoneelse whoisgoingtooperate,maintainorworkaroundthe draperheaderbefamiliarwiththeoperatingand maintenanceproceduresandrelatedsafetyinformationcontainedinthismanual.

RememberYOUarethekeytosafety.Goodsafety practicesnotonlyprotectyou,butalsothepeople aroundyou.Makethesepracticesaworkingpartof yoursafetyprogram.Mostaccidentscanbe prevented.Donotriskinjuryordeathbyignoring goodsafetypractices.

Reviewtheoperatinginstructionsforthisheaderat leastonceayearperOSHAregulations1928.57. Knowthemeaningandlocationofeachdecalbefore operatingthedraperheader.

Watchforthissymbolinthismanualandonthe draperheader:

8.Donotallowanyonetooperatetheheaderwho hasnotbeeninstructedinhowtooperatethe machine.

Itwilldrawyourattentiontohazardsthatcouldcause injuryordeath.

1.Keepthehydraulicpump,gearboxandmotors cleanofallchaffandstrawtopreventany possibilityoffire.

2.Carryamultipurposefireextinguisherinthe machineincaseoffireandknowhowtouseit. Checktheextinguisherregularlyandkeepit maintained.

9.Alloperatorsshouldfamiliarizethemselveswith thesafetysectioninthepowerunitoperatorís manual.

10.Somepicturesorillustrationsmaynotshow protectiveshieldsinplace.Makecertainthatall protectiveshieldsareinplacebeforeoperating themachines.

OPERATINGANDMAINTENANCESAFETY

1.STOPthepowerunit,engagetheparkingbrake, placethepowerunitinneutral,removethekey, andwaitforallmovementtostopbeforeleaving thecab.

2.Eitherlowerboththetableandreelorraisethe headertoitsfullheightanduseplatformlocks beforeleavingthepowerunitorservicingthe header.Ifworkingunderreel,usereelcylinder locks.Asuddenlossofhydraulicpressurecould causetheheaderandreeltofall.

3.NEVERoperatethepowerunitandtheheader whiletired,sick,orimpaired.

4.DANGER,DONOTstandbetweenthepower unitandtheheaderwhileraisingorloweringthe header.

5.Donotoperatetheheaderincrowdedor confinedareas.

6.Ensurethatallthepressureisreleasedfromthe hydrauliclinesbeforerepairing.Replaceor repairdamagedhosesimmediately.

7.Careshouldbetakenwhenmaintainingthe knife.Thesicklesectionsareverysharpandcan easilycauseinjury.Useheavyleatherorcanvas gloveswhenworkingwiththeknife.

HYDRAULICSAFETY

Releaseallthepressurefromthehydrauliclines beforemakinganyrepairs.Replaceorrepair damagedhosesimmediately.

WARNING

Hydraulicoilleakingunderpressurecan penetratetheskinandcauseinfectionorother injury.

ToPreventPersonalInjury:

Relieveallhydraulicpressure,before disconnectingfluidlines.

Beforeapplyingpressure,makesureall connectionsaretightandcomponentsarein goodcondition.

Neveruseyourhandtocheckforsuspected leaksunderpressure.Useapieceof cardboardorwoodforthispurpose.

Ifinjuredbyleakingfluid,seekmedical attentionimmediately.

Failuretocomplycouldresultindeathorserious injury.

WELDINGSAFETY

DONOTweldonwheels.Weldingonwheelsmay causehighstressandwheelfailure.

DONOTweldonwheelswithamountedtire. Weldingonwheelswithamountedtiremaycause thetiretoburst,causingseriousinjuryordeath.

BEFORETRANSPORTING

1.Doacompletewalk--aroundvisualchecktobe suretherearenoloosepartsorcomponents.

2.Checkwheelboltstomakesuretheyaretight.

3.Checktransporttirepressure.Recommended pressureis3.4bar(50psi)for225/75R15 radials.

4.Checkspindleandhitchlockpinstomakesure theyareinplaceandsecurelyfastened.

5.Doavisualcheckofallhosestomakesurethey aresecurelytiedsotheywillnotpinchordrag duringtransporting.

6.Besurehitchtongueandsafetychainare fastenedsecurelytotheheaderandtothe transportingvehicle.

7.Handcheckallreelmounting,reeldrive,and adapterassemblyboltstobesurenobolts/nuts areloose.

TRANSPORTSAFETY

1.TransporttheheaderwiththeSMV(SlowMoving Vehicle)sign,1,displayedontherearofthe headeranduseyourhazardlightsifthelaws permit.Checklocalroadlawsbeforetransporting.

2.Whentransportingtheheaderontheroad,be awareofthewidthoftheheader.

3.Forlongdistancetransporting,puttheheader intofulltransport.

4.Removecropdividersanddividerpipes.

5.Donottransportthemachineatnight,atdawn, oratdusk.

6.Donotexceed32km/h(20mph)during transport.

TRANSPORTINGCHECKS

1.Ifyouaretowingyourheadertoadistant destination,stopafterthefirst5--10kilometers (3--6miles)andchecktomakesurethewheel boltsaretightandthewheelhubsarenothot. Makeperiodicchecks50--60km(30--35miles) iftowingtheheaderlongdistances.

2.Checkthehitchboltandsafetychainperiodically tomakesuretheyaresecure.

TowingRestrictionsonPublicRoads

Checkwithlocalandstateauthoritiesandfollowall regulationsconcerningtowedequipmentonpublic roads.

Donottowequipment,suchasadraperheader,that doesnothavebrakes:

• atspeedsover32km/h(20mph);or

• thatwhenfullyloadedweighsmorethan1.5ton (3300lb)andmorethan1.5timestheweightof thetowingunit.

WINDROWERMOUNTING

Thesemountinginstructionswillhelpyoumountyour HBdraperheaderontothewindrowerinasafeand easymanner.Followtheinstructionsinthegiven order,orpossibledifficultiesmayarise.

TheHBdraperheaderusedwithawindrower consistsofthemaincomponentslistedbelow.The hydraulicpressuretoruntheheadercomesfromthe headerdrivepumpofthewindrower.Ahydraulic motorpowerstheepicycleknifedrivetocutthecrop. Thereellaysthecropontothedrapers.Thedrapers carrythecroptotheopeningoftheheadertocreate awindrow.

Wheninfieldposition,flotationisachievedthrough theuseofthehydraulicflotationonthewindrower andoptionalcastergaugewheelsontheheader.
