Well the weather might have been a washout here in the UK, but the 1Radio Dj’s kept the sunshine music going throughout the 4 days. I lost count how many times I heard “walking on sunshine”, or “hot hot hot”!!! But we always live and hope. Rhodders pulled out all the plugs for his BBQ patio party, although the webcam was bare after the show when rumour has it, one too many beers had caused him to spend sometime on the big white telephone! Dino (ceejay) kept us going as well with some pickle, chutney and soca, good practice for the 1st July (more about that later). There were numerous other shows that rocked the interweb for the weekend, but onto the future...
The End Of Kingdom Beats? It’s a shame that one of the most respected presenters on the 1 announced he was taking some time out from presenting the iconic Kingdom Beats show. Gaz announced in the forums he felt the show had gone stale! So Gaz I’m sure I speak on behalf of some of your colleagues, and wish you a good rest and hope you come back bigger ,and if possible, better than ever. Rumour has it you have ideas for a new show?

Captain Kremmen Comes To 1Radio If you’ve never heard of Captain Kremmen, then your missing out on one of the most enjoyable cartoon characters made for radio ever. Kremmen is the creation of Kenny Everett, who was a dj/presenter in the 70/80’s and was way ahead of his time. Check out the High Noon Classic Rock Show on Saturday lunch times to hear amazing classic rock tracks and reruns of the hilarious series. Or Google Kenny Everett or Captain Kremmen for some background and a bloody good read.
4th of July— American Independence Day
Well seeing as we all know our history, and knowing the 4th wasn’t one of our greatest achievements, here at 1Radio we are going to be sweeping it all under the carpet for the sake of the special relationship! Independence day is a bit of a party I believe in the States. With this in mind, we are having a special celebration of liberty, life and music. From 7pm UK on the 3rd July we go live to Afghanistan to the airbases in Kandahar and Bagram. Why start on the 3rd I hear you say? Well it will be the 4th in Afghanistan when we start. At this point AFN and BFBS have not confirmed if they are picking up the cast but, have in the

What’s The Funniest Line You Have Seen In The ShoutBox?
Whilst I do spend some time away from the shout box and in the local bar, I’m always on the look out for classic comments from Dj’s and listeners. Normally the shoutbox is full of innuendo, food, alcohol, or technical stuff. So I’m on the look out for screen shots of some of the put downs, mickey taking and good mannered banter that goes on. If you can capture any of the classics that go on, then email me the screen shot. If it makes me laugh, then I’ll sort a prize out for the best. spike@1radio.org 3
? J D r a t s r Supe Bio DJ Paladinleeds (otherwise known as DJ P) enjoys getting on the DJ decks, and is even trying to make a career out of it! A very level‐ headed person at times, he has gone from strength to strength while at 1Radio. When he started out, he was a bumbling mess. Now, he is able to speak properly while on the mic, although he isn't with‐ out his stumbles (you can blame autism for that one). He enjoys en‐ tertaining listeners and bringing a new breed of DJ to the mixing pot.

An Interview with...
Paladinleeds Meet the DJ with the most complicated name in the history of radio
How did you find 1Radio? It was through Freecast. I had been DJing on a small torrent site prior to joining Freecast, then looking through their forums, I saw a link by vakart (the owner of 1Radio). I clicked through, had a look round, and decided to sign up. The rest, they say, is history.
What is it about 1Radio that you really like? Just the general atmosphere here. I mean think about it, we're a close‐ knit family, where everyone takes the mickey out of each other, but also supporting them when they need it. It's like we're all the best of buddies. Is it any wonder why I keep trying to advocate these DJ meets?
How do you go about building an audience for your show? It's mostly just pinging a message out to my Bebo, MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter. Even though there is no set theme for each of my shows, no two shows are ever quite the same. My personality seems to change every show.
Which other DJ on 1Radio do you listen to most and what's good about his/her shows? Well, when he's on 1Radio, I make a point of listening to Rhodders with Thank Rhod It's Friday. His shows are just mental, and are exactly what I wish my shows could be like. He is my inspiration, along with Ian Skye + Victoria Larder from my local radio station.

Are you following the World Cup?
What equipment do you have in your current DJ set‐up?
I am and I aren't. Yes, I'll take an interest when it's on, but I don't make a point of watching games, I'm just too busy these days to be able to watch it. Especially since I still have a CV to write (at the time of answering), and a part time job to look for so I can pay for those CDJs and that new mixer!
Well now, my set‐up consists of my desktop PC which has all my music, and Skype. I have installed an M‐ Audio AudioPhile 2496 PCI sound‐ card into the PC, which Skype runs through. My tracks run through a USB cable to my Alesis MultiMix 8 USB. Also, when I am DJing using VirtualDJ or Traktor, I use a Numark Total Control (MIDI Controller), and a Numark DJ I/O sound‐card. It's a very effectively setup. Hopefully going to be adding a Gemini PS121x and a pair of Gemini CDJ600s into the mix. Catch Paladinleeds around the schedule with “Listeners Take Charge” and the occasional Breakfast Show . See the 1Radio Schedule for more details...
Have you been to or planning to go to any concerts in 2010? I was planning to go to Party In The Park (UK's biggest free concert, held in Leeds!) but the tickets sold out before I'd even heard that the ticket sales had opened. Not happy 5

REVIEWS Florence + The Machine
1Radio s DJ Danny F takes a listen to Florence + The Machine. He likes... About Florence + The Machine
Track listing:
Florence and the Machine is the recording name of artist Florence Welch and other backing artists from London, UK. Florence and the Machine has a varying sound of different genres, from fold to punked‐up indie. Florence described herself as “A choir girl gone horribly, desperately wrong." Florence was brought into light by BBC Introducing in March 2008 and has grown bigger ever since, headlining many music festivals in England, but she has split critic’s opinions in a marmite styled “you either love or hate her” way.
Lungs – The Album
1. "Dog Days Are Over” 2. "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" 3. "I'm Not Calling You a Liar" 4. "Howl" 5. "Kiss with a Fist" 6. "Girl with One Eye" 7. "Drumming Song" 8. "Between Two Lungs" 9. "Cosmic Love" 10. "My Boy Builds Cof‐ fins" 11. "Hurricane Drunk" 12. "Blinding" 13. "You've Got the Love"
The album “Lungs” was released on 6th July 2009 and stayed at #2 in the UK Album Chart. On 17th January 2010 the album reached #1 after 28 weeks of being in the chart. It also reached #6 in The European Top 100 Albums. Lungs also won the Mastercard British Album Award at the BRITS 2010. “Lungs” is Florence’s first studio album. It is a sensational, ear‐pleasing treasure which ticks plenty of the boxes that many leave empty. Many of the tracks, including the delightful “Dog Days Are Over” and the breathtaking “Cosmic Love” leave you dazzled, from the voice, the beats, and the angelic peaceful sounds of the harps and other string instruments heavenly floating around the melody. Other tracks, including the break‐up story of “Kiss With A Fist” are on a completely different genre of a punk‐indie style. Only “Girl With One Eye” seems to let out some of the air in “Lungs”, which has been dubbed “best first album” from some critics. The album also includes an excellent, powerful cover version of Candi Station’s “You’ve Got The Love” as a bonus track. My favourite track from the album is “Cosmic Love”. This track takes you on a magical journey with Florence’s angelic vocals mixed with heavenly harps, violins and huge drumming beats throughout, as well as the rest of the acoustic sounds produced from the varying group of backing instruments. Then, the small silence in the middle of the song, which brings back a powerful crescendo as the ending chorus leaves you with a smile on your face and your toes tapping as the track slowly begins to end.
DJ Danny F’s Verdict? Overall, I highly recommend this breathtaking album for anybody who likes indie and pop, bordering rock, and like artists such as Mumford & Sons, Ellie Goulding or even The Temper Trap.

DJ Tips
DJ Javo presents the Music Platform on 1Radio— a show of music, talk and special features.
1Radio s DJ Javo offers essential tips in keeping your listeners informed Blogging and Updating
Using the 1Radio 'ping' feature
Having a blog and a social network page, like twitter may seem insignificant in comparison to your show, but is it?
The first thing to note when using this feature is to keep it under 140 characters; otherwise the ping will not post on Twitter. This is actually a good thing and will make sure that your ping is precise and to the point. I would recommend doing 3 pings; one at the start, to plug features coming up, one in the middle, to say how its going and plug more features and finally one at the end to say thanks for listening & plug the next show.
Twitter Social networks like twitter are actually very useful, hence why a lot of celebrities and businesses are getting in to 'tweeting'. My personal opinion is that you should use twitter to express your opinions, give frequent updates of what you’re doing and promote shows and special events on 1Radio. That way people will see a variety of tweets that they might like and therefore tune in to your show.
Scheduled updates If you do not have time to post on a regular basis, but say, have one free night in the month, you can schedule all your posts for your blog (whether it be 1Radio, blogger or wordpress) and also Twitter (using a free business service like CoTweet). Doing this will mean that you only have to dedicate a certain time for doing it and then the scheduling takes care of itself providing listeners and fans with fresh content without major hassle!
Blogs Well, first of all, if you want a flush blog, without the hassle, I recommend getting one from 1Radio (it's a premium service). Nevertheless, whatever blog you have, use it wisely and you can attract listeners. A blog needs to be updated on a frequent and regular basis (for example, every fortnight on Sunday's). Also blog about a wide diversity of topics ‐ even ones you are not interested in because, as I said for twitter, the more topics you cover, the higher the chance that someone out there is going to be interested in reading the blog.

LiamV’s Top5 1Radio s DJ Liam V counts down his top 5 summer selections...

Rusko featuring Amber Coffman – Hold On ‘Rusko’s new album O.M.G. really is brilliant, this guy has defined the laws of dubstep. As we enter the Top Five in the Liam V Top Ten the tracks really do have to stand out to me and this one really does. The vocals from Amber Coffman fit perfectly over the garage beat and the low wobbly basslines, definetly one to smash the clubs but also a good song just to chill out to. His new album really is brilliant and I love the way he can switch from making Big Room Banging Bassline Dubstep to more Chill Out and Melodic Dubstep to relax to. A worthy choice for number five this month,’
Leela James – I Ain’t New To This ‘Oh my word I love her voice. Leela James may not be the biggest name in soul music at the minute but wow! She has got one heck of a voice. Her new album ‘My Soul’ is just such a brilliant soul/r’n’b album and none of the tracks let the album down. It was really hard for me to pick which track to put in the Top Ten but I had to go with ‘I Ain’t New To This’ as it’s just such a booty‐shaking tune and I was clicking my fingers and throwing shapes all around the room listening to this. If you like Beverley Knight or Vivian Green then you need to get your hands on this album,’
Dennis Ferrer – Hey Hey ‘Now I’ll be honest with you, when I first heard this I wasn’t the biggest fan of it in the world, but now I think I could be in the running for that title, the song features the singer from the ‘Noisettes’ and I think she suits the song really well. I love the kind of bleepy rhythm in the background and if you know the song already I bet you always chant away at the ‘Hey Hey!’ part. I can definetly imagine this been played all around Ibiza this summer and I think it completely deserves the number three spot in the Liam V Top Ten,’

Pretty Reckless – Make Me Wanna Die ‘You may have heard of ‘Gossip Girl’, if so you may have heard of ‘Taylor Momsen’ you may not know that it’s this very ‘Taylor Momsen’ singing in the amazing rock‐ridden band ‘Pretty Reckless’ when I first heard their song ‘Make Me Wanna Die’ I had been on three hours sleep the night before and this song really made me jump up and it got the life back into me. There’s a really good catchy chorus and I love the bass guitar work, definetly worthy of the number two spot this month. If you do check out ‘Pretty Reckless’ also listen to ‘Zombie’ by them as that’s another noteworthy song (no pun intended),’
Dizzee Rascall featuring Chase And Status – Heavy ‘I was actually shaking when I heard this song for the first time, Dizzee Rascall has gone back to making ridiculously heavy tracks, and my word it fits Dizzee like old boots. Dizzee teamed up with Chase and Status two of the biggest music producers around at the minute and the result is truly magical. Somehow they’ve mixed hip/hop, grime, dubstep and earth shattering basslines into this epic monster of a track. If you’re ever feeling angry this really is just theee perfect tune to stomp around to. Not everyone would agree with having this at number one this month but I just can’t stop listening to it, I was playing it to my hairdresser a few weeks ago and she loved it. If you want a track to get the adrenaline pumping, this is the one. The Liam V, Number One!’ Don’t forget to listen to Liam V’s Urban Chart Show Every Sunday Night On 1Radio
