welcome from Mayor Pro tem Dear Film Lovers and Festival Attendees: It is a great honor to be a part of the Second Annual Charlotte Black Film Festival (CBFF) on March 1 - 3, 2012. I am excited to celebrate 2 years of independent Black films with the CBFF and all of you. It is encouraging to see how the CBFF has grown and developed into the premier festival for films by and about people of color. Whether you are established in the film industry, an aspiring filmmaker, or a film enthusiast, the CBFF gives you a greater awareness and appreciation of the importance of telling our own stories. I would like to congratulate the filmmakers who have films in this year’s competition on being chosen to share their work. Over the next three days, you will have the opportunity to view films, attend panels and meet aspiring and established filmmakers. My hat is off to the incredible CBFF team for another event well done. I am most grateful to Tommy Nichols for his groundbreaking vision and look forward to this year’s CBFF. Best wishes to all for a wonderful festival experience! Sincerely,

Patrick D. Cannon Patrick D. Cannon Mayor Pro Tem

Welcome from the President

T H E F A B U L O U S L I F E C L U B LET 2012 BE YOUR BEST YEAR YET! THE POWER OF LOVE, LIFE, HAPPINESS AND JOY

PRESENTED BY DR. DEIRDRE CLARK-COLLETT 7 0 4 - 7 0 7 - 4 8 6 0 o r 7 0 4 - 8 4 5 - 5 7 0 5 3 9 1 4 M i r i a m D r i v e , C h a r l o t t e , N C 2 8 2 0 5 | w w w . d r d e i r d r e c l a r k . c o m

I would like to thank you for your partnership consideration with the 2nd annual Charlotte Black Film Festival (CBFF). Our goal at CBFF is to entertain, inform, inspire and educate by creating an environment where people can experience the best in cinema and those who support it. As I reflect on how our Governor Bev Purdue took a task force to Hollywood California to pitch the state of North Carolina and how Film Production is in the top 5 economic growth industry for the Charlotte region and finally, how On July 22, 2010, Gov. Bev Perdue signed into law legislation that provides for a true 25% tax credit on film productions spending over $250,000, I wanted to do my part in this great effort. Hence the Charlotte Black Film Festival was established. We are proud of the progress we have made in a very short period of time. The independent film screenings, workshops, panel discussions, youth films and Actor Idol competitions have created a holistic festival that meets the needs of industry professionals and film enthusiasts. It takes a lot of effort to pull together an event of this magnitude. Therefore, I would like to thank our Board of Directors who have worked throughout the year on several film related initiatives; Mayor pro-tem Patrick Canon for his leadership; Tim Newman from CRVA for his guidance; Michael Marsicano and Brian Collier, President and Vice President of the Foundation for the Carolinas for their support. I would also like to thank the North Carolina Film Commission, Central Piedmont community college, the Light Factory, Urban league of the Carolinas and UNC Charlotte for putting legs behind the vision. Our hope is that you will share in our excitement and in our dedication to strengthen the filmmaking community through resource sharing, education, artistic collaboration and career development by becoming a sponsor. As our 2012 theme states, “Share in the Creation, diversify the Dream. In doing this we all succeed! Best regards, Tommy Nichols Festival Director and Founder
