There are a lot of moving parts in modern agriculture. Rapidly changing technology. Huge volumes of data. A global marketplace that can create market moves in minutes. New equipment, products and services. More information than you can take in. We do everything in our power to get the 21st Century Equipment team aligned to serve you best. From parts to service, from sales to ISG, from leasing to administrative services—we strive to provide a complete portfolio of equipment, technology, expertise and people to help make farming easier and more profitable for you. But we also know we’re not the only people you rely on. There are other trusted advisors that have a powerful impact on your operation. Your banker. Your agronomist. Your accountant. Your seed supplier. Your fertilizer dealer. Your marketing consultant. Each has a unique role and valuable perspective. Each has a special set of skills and expertise. They all have something important

to contribute—and what they have to say weighs heavily in the decisions you make for your farm and your future. In the corporate world, this would be called a board of directors. We truly appreciate the opportunity to have a seat at the table with the other advisors who help you achieve success. Though each of your advisors brings their special talents to the table, the fact is your business runs better when everyone is on the same page. That requires everyone on your team to be openminded and not be territorial. To respect others on the team—and to be willing to learn and to share. To understand as much about your operation as you’re willing to share—and to collaborate with your other advisors to avoid conflicting recommendations and achieve a synergy that is greater than the sum of its parts. Ultimately it has to be about what’s

best for you. Your operation. Your objectives. Your bottom line When you are successful, so are all the advisors you have on your team. That’s certainly the way we approach our work with you—and in our experience it’s the way that most of the other advisors we work with on behalf of our customers operate as well Many times, our team is helping facilitate this collaboration, since we want to make sure the work we’re doing for you is aligned with that of your other advisors. We are committed to being proactive in that regard—reaching out to your other team members to make sure we know what they’re doing for you—and vice versa. When it all comes together, it’s an exciting, energetic environment that puts the best minds together with one purpose in mind: To make farming easier—and more profitable—for you.

Integrated Solutions Group News

Collaboration is Key to Performance of Your Entire Advisory Team. From your seed dealer to your custom applicator, from your agronomist to your fertilizer dealer—they all play an important role in your operation. You benefit most when all of those trusted advisors are pulling in the same direction—and are focused on your best interests. As ISG specialists, we play an important role in facilitating—and even driving— collaboration between all of your trusted advisors. We strive to serve as a nonjudgmental, third party advisor—leveraging data, technology and insight to assist with agronomic decisions on your operation. Working closely with you, we help collect, organize and analyze data to help you make critical decisions. But we can also help your other advisors do an even better job for you by sharing information and providing an independent perspective that can lead to better decision-making and greater profitability. This collaboration can take many forms. We’ve helped customers create entire advisory teams that meet periodically to analyze, evaluate and plan. Other times collaboration might be as simple as a quick conversation over the parts counter. Regardless, having conversations with people you trust about what’s happening on your farm—and what you’d like to see happen—are important to your success. MyJohnDeere.com is a great collaboration tool that makes it easy to share information with your trusted advisors. All of the critical management information and historical data for your operation are aggregated in one place. What’s more, your georeferenced data is displayed in a secure, open, accessible and insightful interface that will give you and your trusted advisors the ability to make confident decisions regarding your farm operation. You control what is on MyJohnDeere.com—and you decide who gets to see that information. Everyone important to your operation can access the information they need to do the best possible job for you. Additionally, everyone on your team can keep up with what your other advisors are doing—and that improves efficiency, communication and results on your farm. By adding products and services such as Wireless Data Transfer, Remote Display Access or exciting new products such as SeedStarTM Mobile and Harvest Mobile, you and your trusted partners can access critical field information more quickly than ever before. For the 21st Century Equipment ISG team, it comes down to trust, integrity and loyalty. You entrust us with information on your farm and your vision for your operation. We ensure that your information is held in strict confidence and shared only with other whom you trust. We work every day to demonstrate our loyalty to you and our sincere interest in helping make farming easier—and more profitable—for you. And, we hope, that serves to strengthen the partnership and collaboration between you, us and all of your trusted advisors.

Notes From the Field

21st Century Equipment team goes the extra mile to make farming easier.

It was about 8pm on a night at the beginning of harvest last year when we got a call on our after-hours phone number. Dean Harvie broke the left rear knuckle on his 9600 combine out in a field north of Kit Carson, CO. We quickly determined that the only replacement part was on our harvest trailer in Cheyenne Wells. Jim Robert (Yuma Service manager) headed out in a service truck to the combine and Dale Rogers (Flagler Location Manager) took off in his truck to Cheyenne Wells to get the part and meet up with him in the field. The combine was fixed 11pm that same night and was back to work the following morning. This is an example of how we are making farming easier.

To Our Valued Friends & Customers... A you hhave probably As b bl noticed, ti d th the th theme off thi tthis his edition hi diti off th the Plan”. Flyer is “Your Business Team – All a Part of the Plan” n”. We tthink hink this stage subject is worth discussing as we move into fall harvest, harvest the finall st stag a e of this year’s production cycle. Quite likely, your operation, like many others, has accumulated reams of data this past season... data that gives you the basis for making next year’s agronomic plans, such as crop rotations, seed varieties, fertilizer applications, tillage practices, herbicide programs and of course, equipment planning. To assist you in the planning process, you rely on key advisors, such as your agronomist, your seed supplier, your ag retailer and hopefully... your equipment dealer. Data is the key to farming differently. I don’t mean farming differently in a negative sense... I see farming differently as taking all the data you have collected during the growing season and using it to make decisions that allow you to farming differently next season with the goal to increase yield and/or reduce costs... decisions that are focused on improving your bottom line. In other words, having a plan and making conscious agronomic decisions for next year... all built around data that is shared, analyzed and discussed with your key agronomic advisors. Analyzing agronomic data is time-consuming and complicated, but it does not have to be done in a vacuum. Some of the best producers I know, rely heavily on the advice and support from their key advisors. Many of them utilize members of our team to facilitate the collaboration between your various advisors. We believe in the value, and are very proactive in this collaborative process... we have seen it work well to meet your agronomic objectives and improve your bottom line. John Deere’s cloud-based web portal, www.MyJohnDeere.com, is a great tool to aid in the collaboration process that I have been talking about. It is a safe and secure way to gather and share all your agronomic information with all your key advisors. In your MyJohnDeere.com web portal, all your data is geo-referenced and easily accessible to anyone you give access to because you control access... you decide whom of your trusted advisors you want to share what information. Exciting new products, such as JD LinkTM and Wireless Data TransferTM (WDT), allow you to easily move data to and from your John Deere equipment to or from the Operations Center located in MyJohnDeere.com, as well as share it with your advisory team, as it is collected, more quickly than ever before possible. For those of us at 21st Century Equipment, helping you manage your data all comes down to integrity and trust. We believe the data you create has value. We also believe that by sharing this data with your advisory team, you will increase the value of that data... and improve your bottom line. Our role is to insure that your data is handled with strict confidence and shared only with the people on your team that you trust. That is our pledge to you and a commitment we will not violate. In closing, we thank you for allowing us to be members of your advisory team and hope we bring long-term value to our mutual business relationship. On behalf of all our employees on the 21st Century Equipment Team, we wish you a safe and bountiful harvest. Sincerely,

Owen Palm President/CEO

Your Other Advisors Involved In Equipment Purchases.

At 21st Century Equipment, we want to be your first go-to source for new and pre-owned equipment. But we know that are also a couple other advisors that are extremely important in helping you make an equipment purchase decision—your banker and your accountant. Your banker will tell you whether or not you’ll have the money to spend. Your accountant can give you guidance on the options to buy or lease, along with other tax implications of your purchase. When your considering adding new equipment, it’s not just about spending $200K vs. $250K. It’s about dollars per investment. And there are a number of variables to consider. Cash up front is certainly one consideration. But what about the value of your investment at the end of ownership? What about cost of ownership while you have that equipment? What offers a better return: A 10-year-old machine at a lower cost? Or a 3-year-old piece of equipment that initially costs more? These are conversations to have with your advisors—and then with us. Once your banker gives you the green light (and here at John Deere we love “green” lights!)—and your accountant tells you whether buying or leasing is your best option—then we can tailor the equipment and the financing package to meet your objectives. With seventeen 21st Century locations and our nationwide connections, we’re almost certain to find the equipment you want—the right type, the right options, the right age and the right price. One last word: It is definitely a buyer’s market on combines right now—especially on large late model machines. That means you can get a good prices on a great combine. Tell us what you’re looking for and we’ll search our internal network and nationwide to help you put the right combine in your shed. So talk with your banker and your accountant—and then come see us for a great deal and great financing on your new combine!

Tech Talk Back-toback harvest requires even greater attention to equipment. This year’s planting schedule is going to create a pretty hectic harvest schedule. Many of you will be harvesting beans and then turning right around to go after the corn. It may be tempting to cut corners or assume the best when it comes to your equipment, but it’s always a good idea to take a few minutes to ensure your equipment is truly ready to rock before you get into the field. Please follow your combine’s operator manual when converting to fall crops. This is also a great time to check chains and replace any chains that look suspect. The service manual will tell you that rotor bearings should be attended to at the 500-hour mark. But greasing them at 200 hours will go a long way toward reducing wear and reducing the chance of problems during the heat of harvest. After all the work you put into your edible bean crop, you want to deliver a high quality product to the elevator and maximize your profits. Sharp augers are a primary cause of high tare, which adversely affects bean quality. If your combine will accept a slowdown kit, please check with our parts department for price and availability. One more thing: Don’t let the flurry of harvest activity allow you to neglect winterizing your sprayers. Cold weather is not that far away, so check your antifreeze and freeze points on all motors. We know you want to get the crop in when the time is right, but safety should be the top priority at all times. Take a few minutes to make sure everyone is clear before starting up any harvesting unit. Walk around the equipment to make sure the area is clear—and honk the horn a couple of times before kicking on the equipment. All of us at 21st Century Equipment wish you all a safe and bountiful harvest.

Wireless Cowboy Why Is My Internet So Slow? Matt Larsen is the CEO of Vistabeam, a key fixed wireless provider for 21st Century Equipment, serving parts of Western Nebraska, Eastern Wyoming and Northeastern Colorado.

At Vistabeam, we will often gett cu ccustomers stomers calling in to report connection, repo port that their Internet connectio on, n which was blazing fast jjust ust a few years ago, now seemss tto us o be sluggish and Many slow? M any people assume that this iss the fault of their Service many Internet S e vice Provider, but there are m er a y things that an will cause poor Internet performance. Here are some of the most common issues that will cause performance issues on an Internet connection and solutions that will get that performance back. There are a variety of computer configuration issues that can bring the Internet to a crawl. • Old computer hardware: Internet applications are hungry consumers of computer resources and will put a heavy load on a computer with limited memory and processing power. A desktop or laptop computer that is more than five years old will have problems with many

modern mode dern web pages and Internet ap applications. Consider purchasing more purcha asi s ng a newer computer with hm ore memory and processing ng power. software • Spyware, malware and virus softwar are infecting a computer can bbring ring it to a painful crawl and d secretly use your Internet bandwidth. Scan your system regularly for malware and viruses. • Running multiple programs at the same time will slow a computer down considerably. Some programs will also install apps in your system tray for “quick launch” but they will consume memory and processing power that will slow you down. Go through your startup files and remove any programs that you do not use regularly. You can also right-click on items in your system tray and configure them to not load on system startup. • IP (Internet Protocol) settings set incorrectly can also

cause yo your connection to run slowly or not aatt all. Check with your Internett Provider and nd make sure that you have tthe h he address, correct IP add ddress, gateway, subnet maskk and DNS settings in yo yyour ur computer or router. If the computer is working fine, there may be issues with the LAN (Local Area Network). There are several common issues affecting LAN performance. • Older routers may not support connections faster than 1Mbps. A router that can support 100Mbps ethernet connections and 802.11b/g/n wireless should be adequate for most purposes. • Bad wiring can cause issues with network performance. Make sure all cables are securely plugged into the right ports and check the wiring for damage. Purchase an ethernet tester or have a network professional test and replace wiring if needed. • Wireless networks can suffer from many issues such as weak signal strength, interference and “borrowing” from neighbors. Place access points centrally so that all users in the house can get a solid signal. If you need to have multiple access points, make sure that they are setup on different channels so that they do not interfere. Use some kind of security on your network so that your neighbors cannot just hop on your connection. • If other users on your house network are streaming video or running large downloads like system updates, it will slow down all of the other computers in the network. If your computer and LAN are okay, then the problems could exist with your ISP or in other places on the Internet. • In the early days, most web pages just had a few pictures and text and were small in size. Now, many webpages are full of ads, videos and large images that take longer to download. This will cause some webpages to load slowly. Ad-blocker software can help reduce the number of ads. • Use your ISP’s speedtest to check whether you are getting acceptable performance on your connection. If your ISP does not have a speedtest, you can use speedtest.net to determine speed and latency. connection spe • Internet “br “brownouts” can affect some popular websites. po Check intern internettrafficreport. com for news on any major ooutages ou tages on the global Internet. Water Technologies Partnerships are critical to our ability to deliver on drip. This month’s flflyer yer deals with the importance of having the right partners and advisors in order to make your business successful. Here at 21st Century Water, we’ve seen the impact that can have on our ability to deliver on the promise of drip irrigation. When we choose to work with a partner company, we do what we can to make sure that their mission, expertise and commitment to the customer align with ours. Most of the time that partnership works out. But sometimes you don’t discover that it’s not a good match until you’ve already done a few projects together. That’s happened to us in the past— and we’ve seen the impact that a few missteps can have on our customers and our reputation. The key is to recognize the problem and get it resolved as soon as possible. And that may involve finding a new partner. That’s the choice we made— and it has worked out very well for us and our customers. Our partnership with EcoDrip for drip irrigation systems has been a great thing all around. EcoDrip is the industry leader in the design and engineering behind drip irrigation systems. And our installation partner, Wetfields, knows the drill when it comes to putting drip systems in the ground. In other words, we’re confident that we have the expert team in place to engineer, design, install and service the most advanced drip irrigation system available. For example, we recently installed a drip system for Jerald Meisner of Gering. “Drip irrigation fit our situation well,” Jerald said. We have a long narrow field that we used to irrigate with a combination of gravity and ditch irrigation. It was very labor intensive. We considered pivots, but the field was such that it was going to require several systems. “The team at 21st Century Water laid out the entire drip system and made it easy for me to understand,” Jerald added. “They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable—and the system is performing as promised. We’re saving tillage trips across the field and the labor of handling a gravity irrigation system. It’s been a good choice for us.” Here’s the thing with drip irrigation systems: Once they’re installed, you can’t see them working. So there has to be a very high level of expertise in the engineering and installation—and a high level of confidence and chosen the right trust on your part that you’ve y company to work with on your new system. Water, we’ve selected what At 21st Century Water we believe to be the right partners to bring drip irrigation systems to reliable, innovative dri our valued customers. Give us the opportunity to show you how we’ve become even better— and how drip irrigation irrigatio can help you meet the challenges and opportunities on your farm.

Lease Options Have A Team, Have A Plan Who do you go go to for your Agricultural, financial nancia iall and a d planning an advice? Do you have a strong trust? stro st rong team of advisors that you trust st?? discussed what thatt I hhave di d iin pastt columns l h t a greatt off a leasing l i product d t th we, and how it can fit in to your situation. What I have failed to mention is how our equipment experts and in-house financing fit in to your team and your strategy. Here are a few things to discuss with your trusted advisors before heading out to one of our great 21st Century dealerships to speak with one of our equipment specialists. 1. What does my operation need to be more efficient 2. What do I want for my operation to make it better 3. What does my cash flow situation look like... what is my purchasing power 4. Have I discussed my cash flow with my banker and my forecast 5. My tax situation… leasing as an alternative to Section 179, how does my CPA feel about it Most of these conversations can occur in less than a day. I was an Agricultural Banker for 16 years and will say that my best and most efficient producers started making a plan with their banker in July before Harvest. Most of your expenses have been realized, your crop is out of the ground and it’s a great time to project yields. You have a marketing plan that you established and can forecast both the cash and futures market in your projection. (On a side note, if you don’t have a projection tool that allows you to manipulate the price of your future crop and predict your income, call me.) You have a pretty good idea of what your income will look like and you have also had time to sit in the saddle and think about what is going to make your operation better. The only thing I found that was typically left out: the pencil never hit the paper. Do yourself a favor and write down or verbally record your ideas on your smartphone. Discuss the future of your operation, your equipment/ technology needs, and your wants and desires both today and in the future with your 21st Century equipment specialist. They not only understand equipment, but they are a great resource to bounce ideas off of, as they are involved with what your neighbors and other great producers are doing. 21st Century Equipment and 21st Century Leasing have a great thing going. With over 200 units out on lease, there will always be a great mix of inventory coming back off lease. We have had many situations where a producer is looking for an exact piece of equipment that we have coming off lease. When your equipment specialist is part of your team and your plan, and knows your wants and needs, he will be able to utilize all of the many resources that we have to find you that exact right piece. So from my seat, do your operation a favor and have a
