To Our Valued Friends & Customers...

XUV825i XUV590i

Harvest season is here. It’s when all the hard work and investment you have been making all year comes together. Harvest is when you find out what worked well – and, what didn’t work so well! Harvest is the time of year, when you hope the weather cooperates and you can make the most of every day you are in the field. We are proud to provide you the best harvesting equipment – combines and front-end equipment, that are ready to work as hard as you do and the technology on board that makes it easy to collect harvest yield data. But, getting the best yield data is only useful if you can easily access it and share it. That’s where the John Deere Operations CenterTM comes in. Using it, you can turn your data into information that will make next year’s harvest even better. You can easily share your yield data with your agronomist, seed rep, fertilizer supplier or your banker. There are now over 75 agronomy-related software tools, including the major farm management software systems, connected to the Operations Center that will allow you share your data with who you want, when you want. When you are on the go, you can use MyOperationsTM app for daily summaries and insights on field productivity. The MyAnalyzerTM app can help with decisionmaking by leveraging historical map layers, as well as harvest summary information. JDLink ConnectTM opens an automatic, wireless pipeline between you and your equipment. Agronomic data, like yield maps and as-applied data, can be accessed away from the field and is easily shared with your trusted advisors. Sending your data from the field, immediately and automatically, without copying to cumbersome USB sticks, can prevent you from losing important data. With John Deere Connected SupportTM, you also get Remote Display AccessTM as well as Wireless Data TransferTM. You can monitor machine fuel levels, location history, receive alerts and even view the in-cab display remotely. And, as your John Deere Dealer, we can diagnose machine problems and update software remotely, to keep you up and running during the critical harvest season. For those of us here at 21st Century Equipment, helping you utilize all these options for managing your data, is critical. We believe the data you create has value and helping you manage that data boils down to a relationship of integrity and trust between us. We also believe that sharing your data with your trusted business partners, further increases the value of that data. Our role is to ensure that your data is handled with strict confidence and shared only with people on your team that you trust. That is our pledge to you and a commitment we will not violate. In closing, I want to thank you for your business and I hope we bring long-term value to our mutual business relationship. Simply stated, our success truly depends on your success. On behalf of everyone here at 21st Century Equipment, we wish you a safe and bountiful harvest. Sincerely,

Owen Palm President/CEO

Machine Reconditioning and Its Importance

It is hard to believe that another fall harvest will be upon us soon and planting spring crops is just around the corner. With that being said combines, grain carts, tractors, various other kinds of harvest support equipment, and drills will be resurrected once again to bring the bushels off the fields and to the bin for Market. The importance of making sure your machine is in peak operating condition is paramount during harvest and the current economy. Every bushel of grain is equally important and none of it can be wasted or lost. If your machine is free of breakdowns your efficiencies go up and so do your profits. This means your machine is set correctly and your overall machine utilization is at its max. Grain loss is minimal so more bushels are getting in the bin. The Grain Cart Tractor and Cart are working in tandem for speedy delivery to the Semis hauling grain back to the Farm or Elevator. Time is of the essence during Harvest. Mother Nature doesn’t always cooperate and downtime doesn’t make it any easier. Winter Service Inspections are a great time to make sure your machines are ready to go and all of the Gremlins are found and disposed of. This is the best time to have the complete attention of the service department. They aren’t slammed with Customer’s calls needing urgent attention because their machine is down. Also, Parts and Service have great specials they run to help maximize your purchasing power. When your unit comes out in the Spring it will be ready to do its part in planting and harvesting without flaw, knock on wood!! If you are in the market for a New or New-To-You piece of equipment then Recondition will help the value of your trade in. The better condition a piece of equipment is in during the sales process the better the residual value will be. Recondition plays a key role in what a trade is worth. The less effort the dealership has to put into Recondition Process the less cost will need to be associated in buying the equipment. Regardless, of age condition plays a key role in the resale of the machine as well. Sales People are more likely to recommend a machine to a customer if they are confidence it will perform well and keep the customer running. If the Sales Person does not feel like the machine is a good machine and there will be potential issues, not accounted for during the evaluation process, then the machine will sit and subsequent trades will have a stigma attached and the machine residual value will reflect this attitude. Future customers find solace in repair history. The more information the dealership can provide a potential customer the more likely they will find comfort with the machine and thus purchase. Having past winter inspections to show what has been repaired and at what hour intervals paints a picture of a well taken care of machine. When a machine, historically, sells fast the more the machine’s residual value increases. The cost to hold goes down; thereby more residual value for the trade in. In closing, understanding how Reconditioning effects machine’s performance helps better understand the machine’s ability to be efficient. The more the efficient the machine is during Planting or Harvest Seasons the more profitable the machine is. The better shape the machine is in when it comes time to sell the greater the residual value is and a greater return on investment. The machine stays profitable throughout its life cycle.

Harnessing the Power of Data and Technology

As hard as it is to believe, we are already on the downhill slope of 2017. All the crops have been planted and are quickly maturing in preparation for harvest within the coming weeks. When we try to wrap our heads around the idea of where time has gone this year, it is already time to start thinking about 2018. As the combines start rolling through the field and the grain tanks start to fill, most producers are assessing how the crop did and possibly thinking how to make improvements for next year. What if I try a different hybrid? What if I try a different population in those spots? Maybe my fertilizer didn’t work as well here as it did over there? What if I tried to plant this ground earlier next year? These are just a small sliver of the different questions that might be running through producer’s minds as they think about what could be done next year to improve. One thing all these details have in common is data. Data is a very powerful tool in agriculture. When we have it, data allows us to make better decisions now and into the future. As the amount of data flowing around a farming operation continues to increase exponentially, so does the importance of this information to ensure that it is accurate. Making sure the right information is in the right place, at the right time, and in the right format, is crucial for the ability to effectively use it later down the road. From when the first tractor tire touches the soil in the spring to when the last combine turns out of that field in the fall, the need to document every task that occurs in the field has never been greater. That is why ensuring all equipment is properly setup to take full advantage of this capability is so important. Making sure the correct fields names and equipment characteristics are loaded to the correct machine displays before they hit the field aids tremendously in making sure the right data is getting to the right location. With everything going on in a farming operation today, this might be one task that gets pushed down the list from time to time or never receives the attention it deserves. This is just one area in which our ISG group excels and we want to aid producers in making sure their data is correct in every sense. Having us assist in data management allows producers to focus on the tasks at hand while knowing they are collecting quality, usable data to utilize for years to come. Just as data and information help plan for the future, technology can help us act on those plans. It’s no secret that technology utilization in farming has exploded in the past few years. No longer is it a question of “Should the investment in new technology be made?”, but instead “Which technology is the best investment for a given operation?” Throughout every action that occurs in a given field, there are new technologies of which to take advantage with each pass of the equipment. On the tractor side; newer and more powerful displays give the operator more options for guidance, accuracy, and automation through the field enabling better placement of inputs with increased section control performance. Enhancements to planters allow faster travel through the field, covering more acres per day while placing the seed in the trench at accuracy levels never achieved before. Better GPS receivers allow multiple passes on the same line year after year along with increased performance in varying terrain where reception might have been an issue historically. Smarter combines automate the task of yield calibration to ensure higher quality data at the end of the year as the driver focuses on the task at hand. Today there are numerous technologies to assist producers in making themselves more efficient in their operation - whether their goal is increased profit, more free time, more accurate data, or any combination of the three. In the diverse landscape of technology and data in today’s farming operations, there are many different options to achieve the broad range of results for which one might be looking to be tailored to their specific needs. At times, it might be daunting to think about those different options or even the best way to manage information. However, at 21st Century Equipment - our ISG Team is ready to assist in making sure our customers are utilizing data and technology to its fullest potential. We’d be glad to help you get the most out of your current investments and potentially offer new services or technology options from which you could benefit.

Make the most out of your inputs with EC Soil Mapping Advantages of EC Soil Mapping • • • •

Precise map that can be used in variable rate fertilizer, lime, seeding & irrigation applications. Can help determine correct placement of soil moisture monitoring devices Maps are more accurate than satellite imagery or standard NRCS soil maps Viable for long time periods (10-20 yrs). Change of EC properties happens only with dramatic land leveling or extreme erosion.

The maps below are different geo-referenced data sets of the same field. The map on the far left shows the variation in the soil properties as defined by EC measurement/collection and the map on the right shows the soil type variation as defined by NRCS. Both sets of data are viewed within Apex software and can be used to help define management zones for various operations within the field. The accuracy of the EC map is greatly improved compared to the soil type map. NRCS Soil Map EC Map

180 Day s per acre NPNI through October 31, 2017 EC data collection/measurement is typically performed in the early spring time frame after frost has exited the ground & prior to irrigation & planting operations or in the fall (weather permitting) after the crop is removed from the field. *Fields must be relatively flat to permit utility vehicle travel across the field. Heavily plowed or ripped conditions inhibit consistent vehicle speed & can result in instrument damage. Crop residue does not inhibit EC collection unless it is extremely dense and/or deep (water or wind deposition or residue windrowing from harvesting operations).

Maximizing Harvest

This is by far my favorite time of the year. In our business, who doesn’t get excited about harvest? When it was time to pencil out this article, I thought back to the evening before, when I was at the Harvest Masters Seminar. Our group at 21st Century University teamed up with some John Deere combine experts and provided an amazing harvest seminar. Not only did they introduce the 700 Series combine, they covered, in detail, the set-up, preparation as well as the service and support that we provide during this most Cory Huber 21st Century Equipment crucial time of year. I mention Scottsbluff, NE this gathering Panhandle Acceptance Company Manager because so many

ideas and tips were shared amongst the producers and 21st Century team. Not only did I learn a lot, I found myself discussing all of our leasing options and how we can help to maximize your cash flow and improve your fleet at the same time. Right now, we are offering a 10% down advanced payment on a 5 year lease. We are able to write a lease on most any of our inventory and are more than happy to get a few options lined up for either now or in the future. Get with one of our sales professionals at your local dealership and let them know your needs. We can then structure a financing plan that fits your budget and your cash flow timing. Also, look for information on our future 21st Century University Seminars. I know Terry Gass, our marketing VP, is lining up more seminars that are not only very informative but a great opportunity to share ideas and practices with fellow producers. Thanks again for your business and remember to be safe and close out the year strong.

Priority Service Program E Q U I P M E N T

21st Century Equipment is committed to reducing risk, increasing productivity & improving profitability.

Helping you get more of a return on your investment with our

Priority Service Program

Program Overview

Our program starts with a dealer-performed technical inspection. From this thorough inspection, we prioritize any problems into one of two categories:

A ~ Requires Immediate Repair B ~ Should be repaired in the next 12 months

Next, we review the findings and you select which program works best for you:

PRIORITY PROGRAM Based on the review, you decide which repairs shall be completed. This program identifies the state of your machine & allows you to repair only what is a current issue.

PRIORITY PLUS PROGRAM By repairing areas based on dealer findings, this program provides real piece-of-mind knowing the equipment is covered during the season: to include full service call and trucking coverage and one full year warranty on all repairs performed. And the least amount of downtime possible.

21st Century Equipment Earns Farm Equipment’s Prestigious 2017 “Best In-Class Dealership” Award BROOKFIELD, IL — August 21st —21st Century Equipment has been chosen as the 2017 “Bestin-Class Dealership” by Farm Equipment magazine. Farm Equipment presents its “Dealership of the Year” honor annually to farm equipment dealerships in two categories: one for those with $75 million and under in annual revenues and one for dealers generating more than $75 million in annual revenues. 21st Century Equipment earned “Best-In-Class Dealership” in the Large Dealer category this year not only for its outstanding financial and operating performance, but also for its demonstrated commitment to employee training, community involvement and renowned customer service. Founded in 1996, 21st Century Equipment is a 16 store John Deere dealership and retails many shortlines including Honda, Landoll, Kuhn-Krause, Orthman Manufacturing, Amity, Mac Don, J & M and Unverferth. The dealership was chosen by a panel of renowned farm equipment experts. In their selection of 21st Century Equipment as Farm Equipment’s Best In-Class Dealership, the judges noted: “They have 350 employees that clearly outdistanced its closest competitor in the Large Dealership category measured in revenue per employee. This dealership had the best market share, second best Return on Assets and reduced their used equipment inventory by over 35 million in less than 2 years.”

The judging panel included Dr. W. David Downey, director, Center for Agricultural Business, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind.; David L. Kahler, retired CEO of the Ohio-Michigan Equipment Dealers Assn., Dublin, Ohio; and Charles Glass, president, Glass Management Group, Arlington, Texas. 21st Century Equipment’s selection as a 2017 Best In-Class Dealership is featured in the July/August issue of Farm Equipment, which can be found at www.farm-equipment.com. Farm Equipment magazine, based in Brookfield, Wis., serves more than 13,000 farm equipment dealers, wholesalers and distributors throughout North America. It’s also the publisher of Rural Lifestyle Dealer magazine, Farm Catalog, Ag Equipment Intelligence, Precision Farming Dealer, No-Till Farmer and the Conservation Tillage Product Guide.
