As this edition of our quarterly Flyer comes out, I hope you have, or are about to, put your planter away for another year and that your spring planting season was very successful. Even if you have already put your planter away, now is the perfect time to get that planter inspected while any issues you may have had with it are still fresh in your mind. Contact your local Parts Department now to arrange for a free, on-site, planter inspection so you are ready for next spring. We have dedicated this edition of our Flyer to recognizing 100 Years of the John Deere tractor legacy. No doubt, we have come a long way from the days of the Waterloo Boy! To celebrate this 100-year anniversary, we have developed two unique 21st Century Equipment tractor sales programs that we hope you will take advantage of. The first program is “Demo-Quote-Get a Coat” covering new 6R, 7R, 8R and 9R tractors. If you demo any new tractor and ask for a quote, you will receive a Carhartt® winter coat emblazoned with the 100 Year Anniversary logo. If you are a compact or utility tractor owner, we are looking for late model tradeins. I would like to recognize the unsung heroes of our dealership during both the planting and harvest season…they are the hard-working and dedicated men and women that staff our Parts Departments. These ladies and gentlemen manage over $3.2 million parts (no, that is not a typo) comprised of over 154,000 unique line items in our parts inventory. As new equipment models get released, we continue to broaden our parts inventory. You may have also noticed our recent efforts to also offer lower cost alternatives for our more common parts, and especially parts for older pieces of equipment. Our ongoing goal for every member of our parts department is to send you out the door with the right part, right when you need it. And, a few other reminders…With wheat harvest right around the corner, there is still time to get your combine inspected and ready for a trouble-free harvest. And, don’t forget about that front-end equipment too. If you are serious about managing and reducing your irrigation electricity costs, the utilization of our JD soil moisture probes is a great place to start. It’s Never Too Early To Plan For Harvest I know most of you are just finishing up planting, and harvest is a long ways off... or is it? For the wheat producers, you are probably gearing up, thinking about your plans to harvest that golden grain. It’s not too early to be thinking about your harvest activities. As I write this article, I hope to get you thinking about being more effective and efficient through harvest operations. Making a game plan and executing those plans will go a long way toward securing a great harvest and adding more to your bottom line. Autotrac is used in just about every machine in most field activities, but is often overlooked during harvest time. Using this feature might eliminate unnecessary travel across the field and help operators perform more efficiently throughout the field. On dryland acres, the concern is on controlled traffic and minimizing compaction. Autotrac is a great way to eliminate unnecessary compaction in the fields. Machine Sync is another technology that works hand-in-hand with Autotrac to control traffic at harvest as well as keep combine unloading safe and efficient - minimizing the risk of collision when operating in close proximity to the combine. For those of you that purchased a bigger header this year, machine sync might be an inexpensive option for this activity. Let’s not forget about JDLinkTM and the John Deere Operations Center! JDLinkTM provides you with real-time information of where the equipment is at, performance information, and alerts about your equipment. Idle hours on the equipment generally sneak up during harvest time, so having the technology to collect that information and manage it further helps your bottom line. Equipping these tractors with remote capabilities like Remote Display Access and Service Advisor Remote can help 21st Century keep you in the field and possibly eliminate the need for a service call. Working in conjunction with these features, Wireless Data Transfer can provide easy transfer of your most valuable data from machine to the Operations Center, so that you can share it with your trusted advisors. EC data collection/measurement is typically performed in the early spring time frame after frost has exited the ground & prior to irrigation & planting operations or in the fall (weather permitting) after the crop is removed from the field. *Fields must be relatively flat to permit utility vehicle travel across the field. Heavily plowed or ripped conditions inhibit consistent vehicle speed & can result in instrument damage. Crop residue does not inhibit EC collection unless it is extremely dense and/or deep (water or wind deposition or residue windrowing from harvesting operations).

The Planting Proof Is In The Data 21st Century Equipment continues to see the importance of providing opportunities for our producer customers to be exposed to leading-edge technologies and practices which can positively impact their operations – agronomically and financially. Whether that’s in the form of new equipment, attachments or revisions to current equipment, field optimization and utilization practice improvement, or access to our employee knowledge – we want to add value to our mutual relationship. In that spirit, we have once again invested in creating situations, with the much appreciated assistance of willing cooperators, for the 2018 growing season where we can showcase row-crop planter technology and performance features related to doing a “better job” of seeding. Judging what a better job really means can be somewhat subjective depending on the desired outcomes of each producer’s individual situation – again, both agronomically and financially.

Our focus this growing season is on two crops sugarbeets and corn - and we’re looking at measuring similarities and differences between a number of comparison areas. Measurements are being taken at the time of the seeding operation as well as when the crop emerges and throughout the growing season. Corresponding yield outcomes measured at harvest time in each of the test areas will hopefully quantify outcomes more clearly. If we’re able – we intend to look at some in-season crop care strategy differences which may show advantages too. COMPARISON AREAS: 1. Planter row unit seeding performance (accuracy) between manufacturers 2. Accuracy level of seed spacing, emergence, and resultant yield at various planting speeds 3. Crop emergence and overall crop health related to various pre-plant fertilizer types, placement, and tillage practices 4. Planting efficiency (time/accuracy) using automation technologies vs. manually controlling tractor and planter 5. Using automated map-based variable rate seeding Rx’s to change seeding populations vs. “flatrate” seeding We certainly aren’t able to conduct scientific level experiments in what we’re doing – whether from a measurement, replication, or environmental control aspect. However, that’s really not our intention. Our

hope is that we can produce valuable information – based on accurately collected data at a commercial production level – that showcases various equipment and management strategies in particular scenarios and within the 2018 cropping season which might help each of you improve your business operations moving forward. Our belief is that having accurate and reliable documentation data which proves our executed actions in the field is one of the most reliable ways to make better management decisions into the future. All our comparisons will be based on data coming from specific areas of each field – not whole-field averages or estimations. We hope that these results can help you make more informed decisions that optimize productivity, reduce risk, and improve profitability. Fields for this years’ efforts are in the Scottsbluff, NE, Holyoke, CO, and Ogallala, NE areas. Large Frame IRON Articulated Tractors and Options Farm Equipment Technology has come a long ways in the last 100 years. Horse power has gone from 20 HP to 620 HP and rightfully so! The size of implements demand greater HP requirements as well as, hydraulic capacity. The role of the tractor has changed as well. Bigger HP tractors are now expected to be a tillage, planting and grain cart tractor. As the size of implements continue to grow. Large HP tractors will have to fill multiple voids on the farm. 3pt and PTO on High HP Articulated 4WD and Track Tractors isn’t anything new. These option have been available for many years. These options have not been very utilized on these machines until recently. The introduction of the 9R, 9RT, and 9RX have utilized more PTO and 3pt. Grain Cart size is requiring bigger machines to handle the load requirements. These machine also require a PTO to unload. Adding a PTO to High HP Articulated 4WD and Track Tractors increases the saleability of the Machine as Used Equipment. This option will open the National Market and have a greater likelihood to the sell machine quickly if positioned correctly in the marketplace. Another option growing in importance are High-Flow Hydraulics. The size of implements are demanding more hydraulics every year. The size of Air Seeders, the size and speed of Planters, and the down pressure required on Planters and Tillage craves a large amount of fluid and fluid demand. Implements will continue to require more hydraulics as speeds and down pressure requirements increase. 3pt equipment is also growing in size and with size comes weight. Mounted planters are growing every year and Hydraulic Lift Capacity is limited to the weight and size of the tractor doing the work. The tractor will need to have the HP to pull the implement through the field and in order to make the machine work properly; it will need to be weighted and ballasted correctly. This may mean the Large Frame Row Crop is too small for the implement in question. Hard to believe an 8400R might be too small for some implements in certain situations!! All being said, the face of Agriculture is changing. To those of you reading this who remember when 300 – 400 HP was a lot of tractor, this is not news to you. In their own right, Ag has had many faces and they all are amazing. The future of Ag Equipment is bright and will continue to morph and change with the needs of the Producers. As I am writing this, down payments are being taken for fully autonomous vehicles as well as, plug-and-play systems making machines autonomous. This means no one is inside the tractor operating the functions of the machine. It’s doing it all by itself while monitored by a distant laptop screen somewhere. Only the future knows what this will do to the size and number of machines working in a single field.

Previously, Karri has 10 years experience with the Conservation Districts in Goshen County, where she served as an assistant for 4 years and the Districts’ Manager and Office Manager for about 6 years. She has two grown children and enjoys gardening, reading, riding her bike and spending time with family and her dog Peso.

Aaron Kramer has joined the Parts Department at our Holyoke, CO location as a new Parts Specialist. Aaron is from the area and graduated from Holyoke High School. His has previously worked on conveyor manufacturing and installation. In his free time, Aaron likes to camp and play the mandolin.

Michael Olsufka Parts Specialist Sidney, NE Location Michael Olsufka has been hired as our new Parts Specialist in Sidney. Mike grew up in the Ord, Nebraska area. Mike spent 33 years working in several departments with Chief Industries, primarily as the Chief Estimator in their Correctional Products Division. Mike was in charge of estimating, sourcing and manufacturing the products Chief produced for Correctional facilities across the U.S. Most recently Michael was the Retail Firearms Department Manager at Cabela’s. Michael and his wife live between Lodgepole and Dalton.

Jeremy Feyes Kaden Purviance Detail Specialist Torrington, WY Location Kaden Purviance joins us in Torrington as a Detail Specialist. He grew up on farm in Scottsbluff, NE working on equipment. He enjoys boating, hunting, and spending time with family and friends.

Detail Specialist Sterling, CO Location Jeremy Feyes is a Detail Specialist at the Sterling location. He is from St. Petersburg, Florida and he attended Northeast Junior College in Sterling for welding. His work experience includes detail shops, welding shops, and farm employee. Jeremy coaches baseball and likes to spend time with his family.

Chris McKibben joins our Bridgeport, NE team as a Service Technician. He is originally from the area, but graduated from Dixon High School in Dixon, MO. He is an Army Veteran, and also has experience working for Nebraska Machinery Company. Chris enjoys reading, spending time with his family, and repairing vehicles.
