Wintertime brings with it a small reprieve from the daily demands of planting and harvest seasons. Still, there’s no such thing as kicking your feet up in the world of agriculture. A Note from Owen

I would be remiss if I didn’t start this letter off by wishing you and your families a very merry Christmas and a prosperous new year in 2023. As we wind things up for 2022, I want to personally thank you for your business, and we look forward to working with you in 2023.

As I talk to many of you, I often get asked, “Where is Deere going with all this technology?” or “What’s their end game?” I think the answer is Deere’s understanding of the future is NOT how technology can help you to remove variability from your production systems…after all, variability is inherent to production agriculture around the world. Deere’s view is how sensing and real-time, high-speed analytics can help you manage variability to drive profit and sustainability in your operation. In other words, each seed is placed at the exact right place, and every follow-on operation gives each individual seed the best opportunity to reach its full potential.

Deere calls the future of production agriculture “Sense and Act” - sensing and collecting information down at the plant level, which then allows you to act and execute data-driven actions across every square foot of ground with incredible accuracy. In other words, as you sense, you can act. Deere’s logic: The days of abundant labor resources and inexpensive crop inputs are over…and getting worse. Weather patterns are becoming more variable and more volatile, governments around the world are increasing regulations and consumers are increasingly interested in more sustainably grown food, fuel and fiber.

Bottom line: Older approaches to increase production are no longer viable. In the past, to increase production, we could rely on planting more acres, increasing horsepower, building larger implements or applying more nutrients. In short, we could always do more with more! However, today in agriculture, we have to do more with less! That’s the direction Deere is headed.

The key to doing more with less is data. And data is only useful if it can be managed. The John Deere Operations Center and the connected mobile apps are a set of online tools that allow you to access your farm information from anywhere. These tools provide you with the ability to: a) see what is happening on your farm while learning from your performance over time; b) collaborate with your trusted advisors and other software tools by sharing data to make better decisions and gain insights that increase profitability and performance; and c) direct your plans to the field with precision, easily adjusting as conditions change. Precision Ag

In the agriculture industry, the work is never done. While there may be no planting or harvesting happening during the winter months, this is the perfect time of year to analyze the valuable data collected by your operation during the summer, spring and fall, and clean up and organize guidance lines and field names. The Precision Ag team at 21st Century Equipment is here to show you how!

The Precision Ag team is a group of individuals who specialize in all things related to John Deere Precision Agriculture technology and farming technology in general. This team is dedicated to assisting growers as they strive to put available data to work for their operation. Increasing efficiency and productivity is the ultimate goal for these professionals.

One pivotal piece of technology the Precision Ag team helps users leverage is the John Deere Operations Center.

“The John Deere Operations Center is your digital file for all your information about your farming operation,” said Precision Ag Development Manager Jared Wyatt.

Everything from guidance lines to yield data is housed here in one organized location. For users’ operating equipment for which the Operations Center is available, this technology is easily accessible at no additional charge, provided they have configured their John Deere Operations Center account.

Growers have the opportunity to utilize data found in the Operations Center to make more informed decisions for the year to come.

“You can’t manage what you don’t measure,” said Casey Andrews, Precision Ag manager for the north region. The Operations Center helps you do just that.

Everything from the precise downforce applied at any given time to environmental factors at work throughout the year is collected here. By supplying the big picture, the John Deere Operations Center can help users make sense of the hundreds of decisions made over the course of the year, and more importantly, how those decisions ultimately affect a crop. From here, users can decide to continue with current methods or make any necessary changes for the following season.

Precision Ag

In addition to the Precision Ag team, customers have the knowledge of 21st Century Equipment’s CTAC team at their disposal. CTAC stands for Customer Technical Assistance Center. This team is made up of individuals with years of dealership and mechanical experience. One major function of the CTAC team is the constant monitoring of JDLink alerts.

“We get alerts on any JDLink-enabled machines in our organization. This level of connection helps us be able to get ahold of customers to try to proactively prevent a big failure when issues do arise,” said Brent McArtor, CTAC specialist.

One such issue could be hiccups with displays or receivers, but never fear, 21st Century Equipment has a solution to address this as well.

In conjunction with John Deere, the 21st Century Equipment parts department offers a parts Reman program specifically for technology. This program allows users to repair things like displays and receivers, which is especially critical during times when new inventory may be low. The efficient repair of such issues is key to helping growers minimize downtime.

“We do everything within our power as a dealership to keep the customer up and running,” said Wyatt.

Precision Ag assistance is available to customers in a variety of ways, whether users prefer to take advantage of the dedicated support of a NextCentury Productivity Package or on an hourly basis as needed. Growers can access both the Precision Ag and CTAC teams fully remotely, meaning that no matter where you are, when you have a question, 21st Century Equipment has you covered.

Trent Mason is a Customer Service Representative at our Holyoke location. Trent assists in both the parts and service departments, keeping our customers’ needs top of mind at all times.

“The customer is my main concern,” says Trent. “I’m here to take care of the customer and ensure that their parts and service needs are met. We do everything we can to keep them out in the field and keep them in production.”

Passion for agriculture is what brought Trent to his position with 21st Century Equipment. He cares about the land and about ensuring that America’s producers’ needs are being met, especially in his local area. This can only happen when those producers are experiencing a minimum amount of downtime.

“To me, developing solutions and delivering success [the 21st Century Equipment motto] is the driving force behind everything we do,” he said. “It means that we have the flexibility to think outside the box and do everything we can to make sure our customers are taken care of. There’s no greater feeling than that.”

In addition to his passion for the work at hand, the culture here at 21st Century Equipment greatly interested Trent when he first applied for his position.

“The 21st Century Equipment team has gone above and beyond in terms of training. They’ve gotten me into some really special trainings…opportunities that would not have been open to me in previous positions,” says Trent.

His position allows for work-life balance, flexibility and a family-centered atmosphere. When Trent isn’t working, he spends his PTO, well, working… but this time for fun! He enjoys carpentry and delving into various home improvements around the house he and his wife built together in Haxtun. He also spends a lot of time with family - so much so that their running joke is, “When you get one, you get all.”

“The quality of life is great here. It’s got that nostalgic hometown feeling. There’s a really true close connection with one another.”
