FOCUS: NIGHTLIFE WRITING ON THE WALL

By Jadan Horyn

own where The Bowery meets the Lower East Side and the East Village lies a new nightlife spot reopened and reimagined since the Pandemic. Harnessing the spirit of the last ’20s this speakeasy meets lounge hopes to bring a touch of class to the cacophonous intersection of Ave A and Houston street and this new roaring ’20s. D Writing on the Wall is at once classic and fresh. The crowd skews younger, the music hipper, but the vibe sits on the edge of refined. Crushed velvet couches and low uplighting make up an interior much different than the one evoked by the hot pink neon sign on the exterior. The venue’s signature drink, the roaring twenties, combines Louis Roederer champagne with Kettle one Vodka, muddled blueberries, and mint - refreshing but sweet. Far too sweet for this bitter writer, but appealing to most. Defying expectations is a good thing and Writing on the Wall does that well.

Investing in New York during this economically uncertain time is an investment in all of us. We should applaud that resolve and support those that support our city.

Should you find yourself in the in-betweens head to where Houston meets Ave A and check out this must-visit lounge. Doors are open evenings Wednesday through Saturday
