VITKOVSKAIA

Kseniia Vitkovskaia ABOUT ME I am a graduate of the MA, Faculty of Urbanism in Tu Eindhoven. And also a bachelor of architecture. During a bachelor’s degree and after completing an internship at an architecture office, where I worked on the interiors’ details drawings, such as stained glass windows and interior visualisations. I realised that I want to change my work scale by looking at the design of public spaces and the urban environment. In today’s world, the city’s public spaces are crucial to all aspects of human health and are an integral part of the city’s sustainable development.

Contents I chose works that show different aspects of my experience: urbanism and architecture. Even though the fields are different, projects have in common that they stand on the edge between the spheres of architecture and urbanism. They all include all public space designs and urban development concepts, as well as architectural designs. For navigation through my portfolio you can use headings of projects

Shared backyards concept Focus aspects: Balance between private, semi-private and collective spaces, climate resilient and nature-friendly houses The eastern part of the area was meant as a “quiet” area designed for families with children or the elder adults. Each house in this section has its private backyard with access to a shared garden; their contents vary from block to block in order to provide residents with a wide range of functions and participation according to their interests: for example, gardens and flowerbeds for amateur gardeners are located in one block, in the second - a playground for children of different age groups, and in the third - a zone for a barbecue. In front of each house, there is a parking space and a small terrace. Large glass doors serve as an exit to the patio as well as to the backyard; if one wishes, they can be slid apart and then the space of the house will expand to those terraces. Parking in this part of the district is of a “free” type and can also serve as places for children’s games or events for neighbours.

TU Eindhoven project

Museum of comunication and conflict Focus aspects: Turning an idea concept into the design proposal reflecting that idea

Concept Overall area: 1 hectares Academic task: design a museum in the historical centre of Moscow Museum of Communication and Conflict is designed to reflect on role of these phenomena in our lives. Its exterior represents the communication established in cylindrical form broken up by the narrow angled part of the building made of metal and glass. The latter manifests the conflict, the destructive component of communication that splits up the society. The interior of the museum develops the theme. Multiple bridges and stairs join the remote parts of the floor demonstrating the power of communication to build up the relationship between the conflicting parties Modern building stacks up from the ancient buildings, attracting attention of locals and foreign guests. Standing on the cross point of the old streets it welcomes street walkers to come in and explore the interior. Those, given in to intriguing temptation, are rewarded by Museum is meant to be an oasis of tranquility in the heart of the huge metropolis. Visitors can rest in the inner garden or explore the museum collections in the exhibition halls. The interior offers facilities for educational and debating activities.

TU/e Graduation project

Neighbourhood re-design Location: Eindhoven, The Netherlands Design area: 3 ha Concept Re-design the neighbourhood adopting trends emerging during the Covid-19 pandemic. Following principles of healthy and sustainable urbanism The design aimed to use a non-used territory’s opportunities to create accessible, attractive and welcoming public space. Attractive public space in-between of apartments blocks of the city can invite people to go outside to meet neighbours, socialise, organise local events and celebrations. By making local publicspaces attractive, an urban designer can stimulate the healthy lifestyle of citizens of the city. The second design phase began with an analysis of a standard street in the second zone of the design area. There are row houses on both sides of the street. In front of each house, there is a frontyard and the back yard on the other side Reducing the number of cars on the streets means not only reducing pavement. It means introducing of more healthy and sustainable living environment. Park-like streets mitigate climate changes and improve biodiversity, attracting birds, small mammals and bees with seeds and berries. The welcoming atmosphere outside of the house invites people to go outside more often, meet neighbours and improve social bound among neighbours who can support each other in difficult times.

The sections of the two spaces are presenting how did change space in-between apartment blocks and on standart for neighbourhood row-houses streets

WillemsenU internship

WillemsenU internship Skill: Explanation of the design features via 3d schemes Given: Concept idea and sketchup model of private house Task: Explain design concept in presentation slides

This project has an interesting concept in its core. The clients are 2 generation of the family who decided to live together. New house will consists of three parts. The difference will be visible in choice of materials. The idea is to create one house, which will serve to 2 families. There are two houses with the common part one with the bedrooms and the central part works as a connecting link between them. There is a kitchen area, living room and entrance to the terrace The house is still on a technical stage of project, however the materialisation is already ben chosen and integrated into the concept; First house is made of brick, which is a traditional material for The Netherlands, secon one- is covered with wood. The uniting material in this design is zink on both roofs, this creates a connection, whilst the difference between 2 volumes is still visible.

Creating of the concept of volume. First: two houses for two families, then- comm

Division between 2 types of spaces- inner and outer

During my work on this project I created an archicad model for it and presentation with the schemes aimed to explain the concept idea to the client.

Material choice supports the concept of difference between different types of spa
